For You
Chapter 13:
Before the Storm
[Still flashback]
Ty had just left Adam's room, as someone else approached his door hesitantly and looked through the open entrance. Adam stood by one of the windows and had his arms crossed in front of his chest, when the new voice interrupted his thoughts.
"Do you mind me coming in?"
Mitch voice was even quieter than usual and the wrinkles on his forehead were a sign that he was worried about something. Adam already knew what his doubts were about. Several hours had passed since Mitch had talked to the rest of Team Crafted about his idea to kick Seto out of the team due to different reasons. Most of the guys understood them, but the situation had escalated quickly as Ty had aired his opinion about it as well.
Adam had talked a lot to his best friend during the last hours and he had been successful in finally calming him down. Mitch hadn't showed up once during that time and Adam had to admit that he was glad about it. He probably would've done more harm than good, because as much as it bothered Adam, Ty was out of sorts with Mitch for the moment.
"Sure, come in."
To be honest Adam didn't know what to think about the situation himself. On one hand he understood where Mitch was coming from and he knew that his boyfriend meant no harm. But on the other hand… Ty's arguments were understandable as well. Adam couldn't get rid of his words, because they actually couldn't be truer.
Mitch closed the door and slowly stepped closer, but as he saw Adam's face he stopped in the middle of the room. Adam quickly tried to hide his emotions, but the damage was already done.
"You're mad at me," he noticed with a tone in his voice that made Adam feel on edge. He didn't like it one bit, but before he had the chance to explain himself to the Canadian, he already continued.
"I ruined it, didn't I? Of course you guys would take it differently, no matter how much I would try to explain it. Please don't be mad at me Adam, I swear I li-"
With a few steps Adam reached his boyfriend and pressed his lips onto Mitch's open mouth to keep him from rambling on. He made a surprised noise and stared at him with wide eyes, but as Adam laid his hand on his cold cheek, he finally began to calm down. His tense muscles relaxed and he closed his eyes, while he returned the sweet kiss with a content smile on his face. Adam could feel Mitch's doubts disappear and deepened the kiss to stall the upcoming talk about Seto.
For the moment his tactic was effective and Mitch lost himself in the kiss, before he had to break free from his lover. While he tried to catch his breath, he leaned against Adam's chest. His thoughts were still roaming around today's events and Ty's words, nonetheless he held no grudge against Mitch… right? After all his suggestion was reasonable.
A content sigh could be heard from Mitch and Adam put his arms protectively around him. The sun was long gone and a little bedside lamp banished the looming darkness, while they still stood in the middle of the room and enjoyed each other's company. For the moment all of his worries and doubts seem to disappear as well and Adam pulled the Canadian a little bit closer. His breath was tingling his throat and Adam had to suppress a giggle, as Mitch mumbled, "I love you, you know?"
"I know."
The grin was audible in his voice and Mitch slowly lifted his head with a raised eyebrow.
"Not the answer I was expecting."
"What did you expect?" Adam asked teasingly and seeing Mitch's reaction, he had to bit his lip to refrain himself from bursting out laughing.
"That you love me too."
The whine in his voice was incredibly cute, but even so Adam didn't give in.
"Do I?"
Mitch's reaction was the most adorable thing he had ever seen in his life.
His shining hazel eyes were wide open, the whining noise returned and Mitch was… pouting.
"Oh my god – you are so cute, I can't even-"
Adam was aware that Mitch wasn't the kind of person who simply behaved like that and so the blush didn't came unexpected, but he didn't know that his feelings would go crazy at this sight. Adam's heart was pounding faster in his chest, on which Mitch's hands were resting unconsciously. A warm feeling spread in his chest and filled his body and his mind, while he leaned forward and kissed Mitch again.
"Of course I love you," he mumbled and kissed Mitch again, before he continued, "Don't you dare to think otherwise."
A small hand found its way to Adam's neck and stroked his skin tenderly, but their close moment was over all too soon, as Mitch broke away from the kiss and began to finally voice his worries.
"I'm glad you do, because earlier you gave me this odd look. You think I did a mistake, don't you?"
With a sigh Adam looked to the ceiling and delayed an answer.
It was no use – Mitch wouldn't leave it alone.
"I do."
Several seconds passed in complete silence.
They were still hugging each other, while Mitch uttered a reply.
"And nonetheless you actually voted for my suggestion later on. Why?"
"I did because I understand your reasons. They are logical."
Adam still tried to avoid Mitch's gaze, until his small hand on Adam's cheek forced him to look back into the Canadian's eyes. They were doubtful and he furrowed his brows. "That doesn't sound like you at all. Why aren't you mad at me?"
In a flowing movement Adam let go of Mitch and backed away from him.
"I am mad at you, damn it! I try to be logical and all that stuff, because I don't want to be cross with you, but you didn't think this through at all. Have you got any idea how many problems we'll have?"
He raised his voice unconsciously and walked up and down his room without looking at Mitch once. "I tried to hold this back, even though Ty is probably right in warning you. Don't blame me for behaving different while I try to be on your side."
A dry laugh attracted his attention. Adam forced himself to stand still and to look back at Mitch, who crossed his arms in front of his chest and narrowed his eyes. "I never told you to change your own opinion because of me. It was a suggestion, Adam! Ty voiced his opinion and you should have, too."
"Look at you Mitch," Adam responded immediately and even though the others could probably hear him, he didn't think about lowering his voice. "You are worrying that much just because I went after Ty to talk to him. How do you expect me to be honest, when you are making a mountain out of a molehill?!"
"Oh, now it's getting interesting," Mitch answered with dry sarcasm in his voice and smiled without any humor. The situation was escalating too quickly for Adam to stop it – not that he tried to anyway. As Mitch had stated before he wasn't the type to think rationally. Most of his decisions were made through his emotions and right now the anger and disappointment were too much to keep them in any longer.
"So you think I'm weak?"
Adam kept silent.
For once his mind was faster than his mouth.
Nonetheless, his silence was enough of an answer for Mitch.
The anger in his eyes was replaced by disbelieve and then sadness. While shaking his head he uncrossed his arms and went straight for the door. On his way to the entrance he bumped into Adam's shoulder on purpose, who finally woke up from his daze.
"Of course I don't-"
Adam tried to hold him back and remedy the situation, but this time Mitch was successful in breaking away from his boyfriend's grip. Still he stopped and turned around. "Stop trying Adam. At least I'm smart enough to understand that much."
Adam felt the anger rising again, but this time another emotion was stronger and took over control at last. The fear to lose Mitch.
"Please stop! Wait! I'm sorry, Mitch."
His boyfriend's lips were pressed together into a thin line and he didn't move a muscle while he still stood in front of Adam. He was clearly tempted to just leave, but something else was holding him back and it was visible in his hazel eyes. Using the given chance, Adam took a step forward and quickly ran on.
"I shouldn't have lied just because I thought you weren't able to manage it on your own. It's just… I wanted to have your back. I love you – you know?"
The allusion to their little banter before brought a smile on Mitch's face and with a heavy sigh the angry look in his eyes disappeared. "I'm sorry, I kinda overreacted I guess and thinking about it, I like you to support me. But don't change your opinion just because of me."
Adam took another step forward, this time more courageous than before, and he was glad that he had remedied the situation successfully.
"I'll try, no promises though. You're worth it."
Adam had his arms around Mitch's waist again faster than before and pulled him towards his chest. His hungry lips were immediately on the exposed throat and with a gasp Mitch asked, "What are you doing, Adam?!"
"We just had our first fight. Don't you think we should celebrate that?"
Adam grinned and then continued his caressing of the Canadian's neck, but his reply asked for a cocky answer.
"What exactly do you understand by celebrating?"
"Well darling, I have to think of our last night. For example me f-"
A loud and hearty laugh.
"Just shut up and kiss me."
Adam did his bidding without complaining once.
A little fight. It's nothing... right?
Or is it just the calm before the storm?
