"What do you mean, Ur's still alive?" Astrid asked.
Ragnar didn't answer. "It's been ten years," he said.
Ragnar began to remember the day that Deliora destroyed his hometown.
"Deliora attacked my hometown, I've never seen so much destruction. The whole place was wiped out in less than a day," said Ragnar.
Then as the sun shone through the clouds a woman in her thirties with short black hair, who had to be Ur, and a young Lyon walked into the destroyed town that was once Isvan. Ur had never seen such destruction in her life.
"I've heard of Deliora's destructive power… but I never expected this," said Ur. Then she heard movement and saw a young Ragnar buried in the rubble. "Lyon! Get over here, we've got a survivor!"
The two of them rushed over to the young Ragnar.
"Hey, are you all right!" Lyon yelled.
Ragnar opened his eyes and saw Ur and Lyon looking down at him.
"Ur and Lyon found me, they pulled me from the rubble," said Ragnar.
Later that afternoon, Ragnar was standing on a cliff looking down at the destroyed Isvan, tears were rolling down his cheek and he clenched his fist.
"Deliora, you're going to pay for this," he said. "I'll stop you, I swear it."
Ur could see the pain in the young boy's hearts, but she also sense his thirst for revenge and knew that revenge will only hurt him more.
"That vow is how it all began," said Ragnar.
The next day, Ragnar was with Ur and Lyon on a snowy cliff. He was breathing heavily from all the climbing they did, he had asked Ur to training him in the art of magic.
"Are you going to be able to keep up Ragnar?" Ur asked with her back to him. She then turned to look at him. "I warned you, training with me could be tough."
"Yeah, but I'll do whatever it takes," said Ragnar panting heavily. "I have to become stronger than Deliora, because someday I'm going to beat him!"
"Yeah, right," Lyon muttered.
Ur hadn't heard him and looked down at Ragnar. "Okay, let's get started," she said.
"Fine, ready when you are," said Ragnar.
What she did next was shocking. She began to remove her clothing until only her underwear was left and didn't seem to mind the cold.
"What are you doing?!" Ragnar yelled.
"To perform Ice Make Magic you need to be one with the cold," she said simply.
"You're crazy if you think I'm going to strip down to my underwear in the snow," said Ragnar. He looked at Lyon hoping for some support, but he too had stripped down to his underwear. "You've got to be kidding me."
"Just hurry up and do it kid," said Lyon. "Come on, you want to learn magic, right?"
"I can't believe you're making me do this," Ragnar muttered.
Ragnar then removed his clothing, reluctantly, until he was in his underwear.
"Don't worry, you'll get use to it soon," said Ur.
"I've already have," said Lyon as he shivered.
"You're shivering just as much as I am," Ragnar pointed out shivering as well.
"Let's go boys," said Ur and they began to run through the snow.
"I thought you were going to teach me magic!" Ragnar yelled.
"Just run, I don't want to do this beginner stuff again," said Lyon as they ran.
Ur's training was rough, first he had to get used to the cold that ment running through the snow in his underwear and taking an ice cold bath every day.
"I practice Maker Magic, out of all the magical arts I feel this one has the most creative freedom," Ur explained. "In fact every Viking that practices Maker Magic has their own unique style, if you train hard then someday you'll create a style all of your own."
Ur then began to teach him how to do the proper hand signs using two hands. Though Lyon was insisted to just use one hand and every time he did Ur whacked him on the head.
When they were not training they stayed at her cabin on the snowy mountain. Where they ate and slept and where she looked after them as if they were her own children.
However, Ragnar wasn't too happy about the training. All he cared about was getting revenge on Deliora and he felt that Ur wasn't teaching him proper magic.
One day at the town on the bottom of the mountain, as Ur was buying food, Lyon asked him something.
"So tell me something, how long do you think it's going to take us to be stronger than Ur?" he asked.
"How the heck should I know," said Ragnar.
"She's the best Viking around," said Lyon looking up at the sky. "My dream is to be better than her someday."
"Can't stop running your mouth, can you," said Ragnar. "Do you really think I care about that?"
"Why are you always so grumpy?" Lyon asked.
"It's a bit hard not to be grumpy when the creature the destroyed your hometown is wondering free," said Ragnar bitterly.
"She told me she decided to teach you because she see some kind of darkness inside of you," said Lyon looking at Ur as she purchased some food.
"Well, she's probably right," said Ragnar. "Especially after what I've been through."
"Well, she wants to help you get rid of it," said Lyon.
"I'll do that on my own. Just watch," said Ragnar clenching his fist. "Right now, all I care about is getting revenge on Deliora. And once I've learned enough magic I'm so out of here."
Once Ur had finished with the shopping they began to leave.
"So, when are you gonna start teaching me some powerful magic?" Ragnar asked.
"I've already have," Ur answered.
"I'm not talking about that Maker Magic stuff as far as I could tell that junk is completely useless," said Ragnar.
Ur then stopped in her tracks and turned to look at Ragnar. Ragnar turned away, not wanting to look at her in the eye.
"Look me in the eyes," said Ur. Ragnar ignored her. "Ragnar." Ragnar sighed and looked at her. "I told you, Maker Magic gives you creative freedom. Once you're able to create your own style, you can make it as powerful as you want."
Ragnar turned away again, Ur could tell that he hadn't taken in what she had said.
Soon they were walking up the path to her cabin and a caravan passed them. As it did Ragnar could hear a couple of men talking about Deliora.
"Have you heard any news about Deliora's whereabouts?" said one of the men.
"Yeah, I've heard it made its way to the Northern Continent, somewhere around Brago," said another one.
"I hope they don't suffer the same fate as Isvan."
Ragnar stopped in his tracks and this didn't go unnoticed by Ur and Lyon.
"What's wrong?" Lyon asked.
"That's where it is," said Ragnar. "In Brago."
Later that night a blizzard hit the mountain top and Ragnar left Ur's cabin. He was determined to defeat Deliora and avenge Isvan. Ur tried to stop him, with no success.
"No way!" Ur yelled. "Deliora is out of your league, Ragnar. It will kill you, don't go."
"Beg all you want, you're not gonna change my mind," said Ragnar. "Don't you understand, that demon took my mum and dad away from me? I have to get revenge."
"Leave and you're no longer my student," said Ur.
"Fine, I'm better off without you."
"Don't go," said Lyon.
Ragnar ignored him. "And if that thing kills me it will be your fault. You should have taught me real magic."
Once Ragnar disappeared from view Ur shook her head in disbelief. "Great."
Back in the present, Ragnar and his party had just reached the temple and they saw that it was lopsided.
"Hey guys, is it just me or does that temple look a little crooked right now?" Ruby asked.
"I wonder what happened to it," Toothless wondered.
"I'm guessing Hiccup," said Ragnar.
"Me too," Astrid agreed.
"Hiccup has always been good at thinking outside the box," said Ragnar. "With the temple tilted like that the moon light won't hit Deliora."
"Whoa, that's some smart thinking," said Ruby looking amazed.
Suddenly Astrid saw several knives heading their way. "Watch out!" Astrid yelled pulling Ruby out of the way.
Toothless flew up into the air to avoid them while Astrid and Ragnar dodged the incoming knives.
"Who's there?!" Astrid demanded.
Then they saw several of Lyon's hooded henchmen.
"We've tracked you down, Dragon Tail," said one of them, whose voice sounded like an old woman's.
"We won't allow you to interfere," said another, this one belonged to a deep man's voice.
"Not these guys," said Ragnar.
"Lyon's minions," Astrid guessed.
"They're all around us!" Ruby yelled.
"I can handle this myself," said Astrid and summoned her axe.
"You sure?" Ragnar asked.
"I'll take care of them, you go and settle things with Lyon."
Ragnar looked at her and nodded.
"We'll fight with her," said Ruby pulling out her whip. "You just do what you've gotta do."
"You heard the ladies, get going," said Toothless.
"Thanks you guys," said Ragnar smiling.
He then ran towards the temple. He had to tell Lyon that Ur was still alive. The only person who could stop him now is him.
Ragnar then remembered the night he battled with Deliora in Brago. Ur was right, he was out of his league and would have died if Ur and Lyon hadn't appeared. Despite this, they weren't able to being the creature to its knees.
Ur had lost a leg in the battle and had to create an ice prosthetic leg in order to stand. Deliora then fired a powerful magical beam straight at her.
"Ice-Make: Rose Garden!" Ur yelled.
Ur released chunks of ice in the form of roses and thorns straight at Deliora that covered it head to toe. However, its magical beam was still fired and coursed an enormous explosion that freed itself.
Ur was able to save herself and her students by creating an ice shield, but she was getting worn out from the battle, there was no way she'd be able to keep this up.
"I can't keep this up, I'm using too much magic energy," she said. She looked behind her and saw her students lying on the ground unconscious, she had to protect them.
Ragnar then regain consciousness stared up in fear as Deliora continued to destroy Brago. Ur then pulled him into a hug.
"It's okay, everything is going to be fine," she said.
"You're here," said Ragnar surprised. "But why?"
"I want you to grab Lyon and get out of here, I can't concentrate on fighting if I have to protect you," she said.
Ragnar then saw for the first time that Lyon was laying on the ground out cold. "Oh no," he said fearing the worst.
"He's fine, just out cold," said Ur.
Ragnar rushed over to him and lifted him onto his shoulders, Ur then looked at Deliora, who was starting to leave.
"Deliora! It's too strong, I didn't stand a chance," said Ragnar.
"Get going," said Ur heading towards Deliora.
"Wait, why did you come after me? I thought I was no longer your student anymore?"
Ur then stopped. "A friend told me something recently that made me think, she told me that I deserve to be happy," she said. "Which shocked me, because I never thought of myself as unhappy." She then looked at him and Lyon. "She just doesn't understand, I have two adorable little students, that I spend each day with and watch them grow into men. What more could I want?"
Ragnar didn't know what to say, he just felt so ashamed. He had done something so foolish and yet the one he was most angry with, came to save him even after everything he said about her and her magic.
"I don't think there's anything in the world that could make me happier," she finished.
Ragnar then noticed that she had an ice prosthetic leg. "Ur, your leg," he said.
"Ah, so you noticed, I lost the real one, but this will do for now," she said. "My Maker Magic, came in handy." Tears were now rolling down Ragnar's cheeks as he knew that she wouldn't be walking away from this. "I vow that I read you from the darkness within you and if that means I have to fight this demon, then so be it. Now get out of here and let me do this."
"No, I'm not leaving you! It's my fault that all this happened!" Ragnar yelled.
"No one is at fault, this is something we just have to go through in order to be happy again," said Ur and made her way towards Deliora.
"Wait, Ur," said Lyon, who just beginning to regain consciousness. He pulled himself away from Ragnar and looked up at Ur.
"Lyon, I thought you were unconscious," said Ur. "I need you and Ragnar to—"
But Lyon interrupted her. "You're going to defeat it, right?" he asked. "You're talking like your—not going to make it. You could beat that they thing no problem, you're the strongest Viking alive, that demon is no match for you."
"Lyon, how many times have I told you? There's always someone better," she said.
"But thatI can't be true."
"In the Western countries, there are a lot of Vikings who are more powerful than me."
"No, that's not true. It's not, because you're the strongest," said Lyon. "If you're not, then why have I been training with you all this time?"
"One day you'll surpassed me, and when that day comes I hope you move onto a more loftier goal," said Ur.
"I've studied with you, because I thought you were the best there was," said Lyon clenching his fists. "If that monster defeats you, you'll prove me wrong."
"Lyon—"
Lyon won't listen to her and rushed past her. "If you're not gonna give it your all, then I'll have to do it myself," he said.
Ur gasped, she had a feeling that she knew what Lyon was planning and she was right. Lyon crossed his arms in front of him.
"Lyon, that stance! Where did you learn that?" Ur demanded.
"Where you ask? Since you don't want to teach us powerful magic yourself, I went to the storehouse and read all your magic books," he said as a giant magic circle appeared beneath his feet and powerful magical energy surrounded him. "You hide spells like the Ice Shell from me, because you were scared. That's why isn't it?"
"Did you even bother to read that book all the way through?" Ur asked fearfully. "Do you know what happens to the spell caster?"
"Will he be okay?" Ragnar asked.
Ur ignored Ragnar and continue to look at Lyon. "I ask you a question, answer me Lyon" she said.
Lyon didn't answer, he was more focused with the spell he was casting and was determined to put an end to Deliora. This didn't go unnoticed by Deliora, who turned to look at them.
"Lyon, you can't do this!" Ragnar yelled.
"No, it noticed us," said Ur.
"I know magic is too weak to kill Deliora, but if I cast the Ice Shell spell I can seal it in ice for eternity!" Lyon yelled triumphantly.
However, he was unable to complete the spell, because Ur had frozen him in a block of ice in order to prevent him from using that spell.
"Sorry, but I'm not going to let you do that," she said.
"But Ur, why is it bad?" Ragnar asked.
"When that spell is used, the casters body becomes the Ice Shell itself," Ur explained. She then approached Deliora. "He's right though, that's the only way Deliora can be stopped. I would never have imagined that Lyon would have the same idea I had."
Suddenly she was covered in powerful magical energy.
"Wait, where are you going?!" Ragnar yelled.
"I must have taught him well," she said as she approached Deliora.
"Ur!"
"Stay back," Ur ordered.
She then preformed the same stance that Lyon did. This time, however, large magic circles surrounded Deliora, trapping it.
"I won't ever let you hurt my students again! This is the end of the line, you monster!" Ur yelled. "Absolute Freeze! Ice Shell!"
Then her body slowly turned to ice and that ice shot straight at the demon and began to freeze it solid. Ragnar could only watch in horror as his master slowly turned to ice.
"Ur! No!" he yelled. Ur's body then slowly began to crack. "Please, don't do it!"
Ur looked at him and smiled. "It's a sacrifice I have to make in order to save the two of you. My body will become the ice that will seal the demon, Deliora, for eternity," she said. Then she looked at the frozen Lyon. "Ragnar, promise me one thing. Please, tell Lyon I died. If he found out I'd turned to ice, he'd probably waste his entire life trying to find a way to undo the spell and that would make my sacrifice meaningless."
"Stop!" Ragnar yelled in desperation.
Ur ignored his pleas and continued. "I want Lyon to see the world and live a full life. And Ragnar, I want the same for you."
Ragnar went down on his knees and tears rolled down his cheek. "I'm begging you! Please don't do this!" he yelled. "I promise I'll do anything you tell me to do for now on!"
"There's no reason to be sad," said Ur as her body began to break apart. "I'll live on, please don't cry." Ragnar stared in horror as his masters body crumbled away, but her voice was still heard. "I may not be with you, but I will protect you from Deliora. Be strong, make me proud."
"Ur!" Ragnar yelled.
"I've freed you from the darkness, Ragnar," said the voice as it got fainter. "I've sealed it away forever."
Ragnar looked at the now frozen Deliora and felt his anger and sadness disappear. At that moment he swore that he'd always be strong for her. That he'll become the best Viking he could to make her proud of him.
It was daylight when Lyon finally awoke. The ice around him had melted, he remembered that Ur had frozen him, but after that nothing.
"What did she do to me," he said rubbing his head. He then saw that Deliora was frozen solid and saw Ragnar was sitting next to him and looked at him. "That's Deliora! What happened? Did Ur cast the spell? Did she? Where is she now?" Ragnar just sat there crying. "Tell me!"
"She—she's dead," said Ragnar tearfully.
Those words hit Lyon hard. "No!" he yelled and slammed Ragnar onto the ground clutching his shirt. "You jerk, how will I surpass her now. She's dead, and so is my dream, because of you."
"I'm sorry," said Ragnar.
"That's not good enough, it won't bring her back!" Lyon yelled angrily. "You killed my dream! If you hadn't challenged Deliora this wouldn't have happened!"
Lyon got up and looked at him with resentment. "It's your fault that she's dead. You're the one, you killed Master Ur."
Meanwhile in the temple, both Hiccup and Lyon were facing at each other.
"This could go on forever, so do yourself a favour and give up," said Hiccup.
"I would never give you that satisfaction," said Lyon.
"Then I'll have to force you into submission," said Hiccup clutching Inferno.
"I'd like to see you try," said Lyon.
Suddenly one of the temple walls shattered and both Hiccup and Lyon saw Ragnar standing there.
"I see that you've recovered," said Hiccup.
"Not quite, but I'm in good enough shape of this," said Ragnar as he entered the room.
"You sure about this?"
"You know that it has to come down between me and him."
"You seem awfully confident," Lyon noted.
"You were right, Lyon," said Ragnar. "I'm the one to blame for our master's death. But you're no better, you threaten my friends, brought harm to the villages and now you're trying to destroy what Ur gave her life to create. It's time we accept our punishment… together."
Ragnar then performed a stance that Lyon knew quite well. It was the stance for the Ice Shell. "That's stance… not the Ice Shell!"
"Wait, isn't that the technique your master used to freeze that beast?" Hiccup asked.
"Yes, and now I'm going to use it to stop Lyon," said Ragnar.
"Are you insane? You wouldn't dare!" said Lyon.
"If you want to live, change the villages back to their human forms and then leave this island and never come back," Ragnar demanded. Then a magic circle appeared beneath his feet. "If you agree I'll stop, otherwise this is the end."
"That's so?" said Lyon not moving an inch. "Well, I don't believe a word of it. You're bluffing."
Suddenly a powerful icy wind surrounded Ragnar as he prepared to cast the spell. "No I'm not."
"You'll die," said Lyon and was then pushed back by the wind.
"Don't do it!" Hiccup yelled.
"All these years, I've lied to myself. I didn't want to admit that Ur died because of me," said Ragnar. "But she did. And it's time I took responsibility. So, I'll end it here and now. I'm not afraid to die, if that's what it takes."
"Stop this now!" Lyon yelled.
"What's it going to be, Lyon?" Ragnar asked as his body started to turn to ice. "Are we going to die? Or are we going to live? It's up to you."
"You wouldn't, you're not brave enough to give your life," said Lyon. "You're nothing but a coward."
"Just watch me."
