Chapter 14: Beyond his Body
Twelve fifteen in the morning. She had eight days left. Akin had fallen asleep in my embrace, fatigued from her tears. I stroked her dark hair, twirling it in my fingers. My eyes rarely left her lifespan, but when they did, it was only to admire her beauty. She looked as if angels had carved her out of glass, and sent her down to Earth to grace us with her presence. She was like a rose that could be withered with a single touch. Enchanting to the eye, but crumbles in your hand. Breakable. Vulnerable. Beautiful.
Akin stirred in my arms for a moment, then her brick eyes widened. She looked at me and smiled, still rubbing her head.
"Beyond, how long have I been asleep?" Akin asked, with a voice so sweet that the silence in the room stepped aside and allowed it to take center stage.
"A while, darling. I was going to carry you to Amica's bed, but you looked so peaceful I didn't want to move you." I said, moving her hair out of her face, and brushing it behind her ear.
She blushed, and quickly tried to change the subject.
"Well, I'm awake now. I can walk myself into Amica's room, and go back to sleep," She paused for a moment and yawned. She covered her mouth, and scrunched up her nose when she yawned. It was adorable. "I really need to go back to sleep."
Her yawn was contagious. I rubbed my eyes, and she giggled.
"It looks like you need to get to bed too, c'mon let's go." She said in such a soft tone it was almost a whisper. She grabbed my hand, and pulled me into the bedroom.
I turned on the light and sat against the wall. Akin needed to get dressed into her pajamas. I looked down and attempted to focus on something else. I stared at the floor. It was a rug. A very nice rug. It was soft too. Although, no matter how soft the rug was, it couldn't distract me from the half-naked woman in front of me. I took a peek.
The bra was white, with a blue trimming. She caught my glance and stood paralyzed with shock.
"Akin, oh god... I'm... I'm sorry." I said, feeling my face turn red.
She sat on the bed, crouched, with her rear against her heels. Seeing her sit like that made something inside of me twitch. It almost angered me. Her dark hair fell on her shoulders, and she looked down.
"No... it's fine...you could.. you could take your shirt off too if you'd like." She stuttered.
It was obvious what she was offering, but I wasn't sure if I could bring myself to do it. She was so...fragile. She brushed her hair back and it stood up. It was messy, and seemed unbrushed. It bothered me immensely. I could feel something climbing up my throat, and tried to swallow it back down. Akin sat awkwardly waiting for my response. She nervously bit at the tip of her thumb. I couldn't take it anymore. Something was taking me over. I needed to know why. My mind started racing, I was blacking out. The last thing I saw was her sitting on her heels with her thumb in her mouth... she looks just like...
(Beyond Birthday's Perspective)
I walked over to the bed and leaned against the wall with my arm out. I lifted her face up to mine with my index finger, and pushed my lips against hers, slamming her into the wall. I pinned her flat down against the bed, and began slipping off her pajama pants.
She gasped for air. "Beyond." Akin whispered in my ear. I grinned.
No, sweetheart. Beyond Birthday.
(Amica's Perspective)
"Mam, I'm telln' ya, somethin's goin' on with Acadia! I gotta get goin' back. I said, trying not to yell. Mam looked at me with tear filled eyes and grabbed my hand.
"Amica, please stay a little while longer. Goodness knows your sister can't help take care of me, she's out doing her work, and the two of you are all I have." Mam's voice made me sympathetic, but her words angered me.
"Dammit, Mam! It's not my fault Naomi is out playin' detective and doesn't a single tap-dancing shit about her own mother!" I was yelling at this point. She held my hand tighter, as she lied in her bed. Mam closed her eyes for a moment.
"A week more? Eight more days? I'll get your sister to come and take care of me. Just stay with me eight more days, please." She asked. I looked into her blue eyes. They were wise and held wisdom in them, but they were sad. I sighed.
"Alright, Mam. Eight more days, and then I gotta go see Acadia." I agreed, and watched as a smile overcame her face.
"Thank you, sweetie." She wrapped her arms around me, and stroked the back of my head in a motherly fashion. I returned the hug and silently worried.
I just hope Acadia is gonna be okay.
