Chapter 14 – The Attic

"Come on Pixie, think." Pixie muttered to herself; determined to think of some way to get into the attic.

She was pacing around her room, trying hard to work out how to get into the locked room that her family seemed so desperate to keep her out of. She had already ruled out using her newly found powers: freezing the door wouldn't do much, neither would telekinesis or the thing that Gage called premonitions. Maybe she could call for the key and open the door? But her sisters would probably notice. What about exploding the door? No, Prue would be really angry if she did that. Plus, she didn't know how to control it. She could always practice...

Pixie smiled to herself and closed her eyes, focusing on what she wanted to do. She opened them, concentrated on her pillow and put her hands up. Nothing. She tried again; concentrating even harder. Still nothing.

"This is useless!" she said, exasperated. She flung her hands up in annoyance and desperation and all of a sudden, her window exploded. Pixie closed her eyes in shock and orbed out. When she opened her eyes, she wasn't in her bedroom anymore.

Prue, Piper, Phoebe and Paige were sitting in the living room when they heard a loud crash coming from upstairs.

"What the hell was that?" Piper asked her sisters. Of course, none of them knew the answer so they all looked worriedly at each other.

"I think it came from Pixie's room." Paige said.

"Oh my God! What if it was a demon?" Phoebe exclaimed. Prue was having none of it.

"It wasn't a demon; it was probably just Pixie messing around with her powers again." Prue insisted, fed up with Pixie constantly causing trouble.

"But what if it wasn't her, Prue? What if she's in trouble?" Phoebe questioned, trying to persuade her sister that Pixie could be in trouble.

"Oh, for crying out loud! Go and check then Phoebe but no doubt you'll just come back down with your tail between your legs because she's predictable and she tried to use her powers and probably exploded her wardrobe or something. Which she will be paying for." Prue ranted.

"That's our baby sister you're talking about Prue! What if it is a demon? What if she's been taken again, waiting for us and we're just sitting here? Or worse, what if she's already dead?" Paige exclaimed, taking Phoebe's side.

"What a surprise Paige, taking Phoebe and Pixie's side, like always. What about you Piper? Who's side are you gonna take?" Prue interrogated in anger.

Piper hated taking sides; especially when it was between her sisters. What usually happened was her and Prue against Phoebe, Paige and Pixie but this time, Piper couldn't take her older sister's side. "I don't know Prue, something could be wrong, we should at least check. How would you feel if we didn't go up there and she had been killed by a demon? I know for a fact that you would never be able to live with yourself." Piper reasoned to Prue.

"Way to make me feel guilty Piper, thanks for that." Prue replied; her tone filled with sarcasm. "Let's just get this over and done with." She sighed.

As Prue huffed up the stairs with Piper in tow, Paige slowed down slightly and took Phoebe's hand in hers, as if to tell her to stop. "What if she's not ok Phoebe? What if the Source has found a way to come back and taken her again?" Paige rambled, obviously worried about what was in store for them upstairs.

"Paige. Stop. If the Source has come back and Pixie has been taken, which is unlikely, we'll get her back. We're the Charmed Ones."

The four eldest Charmed Ones stopped outside of Pixie's room but for some reason, not known to any of them, they were scared to open it. Prue eventually got fed up with her sisters not doing anything and opened the door quickly. They all stared in. Pixie's room was empty and her window was broken.

"Don't say it." Snapped Prue before anyone could say anything. "We'll find her, she'll be fine. All we need to do is say The Lost Sister spell and we'll be taken right to her."

Pixie found herself staring into a cluttered room with stuff everywhere and an old looking book standing on a podium in the middle of the room. She realised that this must be the attic.

"What's so special about this? If this seriously what they've been hiding from me?" Pixie asked herself, humoured by the fact that her sisters had all tried so hard to keep her out of a room that seemed no more than ordinary.

Pixie was slightly disappointed by what she had seen, the way that Prue had freaked out when she realised Pixie had tried to get in had made Pixie think it was something special. Pixie walked towards the door and twisted the handle so she could leave. The door didn't budge.

"Obviously it isn't going to open, Prue locked it to keep me out." Pixie realised. "Well, that worked out well, didn't it Prue?"

Despite being locked in the attic, she wasn't particularly fazed. Her sisters would soon realise that she wasn't in her room and go looking for her. She felt as though she may as well make the most of her time in the attic so decided to have another look around.

Pixie felt drawn towards the big book in the middle of the room and walked over to it. She opened the first page: "Book of Shadows." She read out loud. She started flicking through the pages; eager to see what was written in the ancient book.

"Power of the sisters' rise,

Course unseen across the skies.

Come to us, I summon thee,

Come to us and settle here." chanted Prue, Piper, Phoebe and Paige. They waited for a few seconds but when it had been a minute and Pixie still hadn't appeared and they hadn't gone to her, they started to worry.

"Does this mean she's –" Paige started.

"No! She's not dead. Don't even think about that Paige!" Phoebe ordered.

"She's probably in the underworld." Piper suggested, not trying to cover up her fright. "I just hope she's clever enough to use the same spell she used before to summon us."

"We should scry for her, just in case." Phoebe offered.

Prue still hadn't spoken since they had said the spell. She felt strange: like there was a whole in her stomach and she felt like she was going to throw up. If she had been faster and had listened to her sisters straight away, Pixie would still be in her bedroom. What if they were too late because Prue had hesitated? Prue shook her head. She couldn't think like that, it wouldn't help Pixie.

"Let's go and scry for her." Prue agreed.

Pixie was still flicking through the pages of the Book of Shadows, fascinated by the amount of magic in the world. Why had no one told her before that there was a spell to raise the dead? And a spell that let you hear people's thoughts? Not that she needed that one, she hated hearing everybody's thoughts.

Pixie jumped at the sound of the door being opened and orbed out of the room. A couple of seconds later, she reappeared in the same spot.

"Pixie! What the hell are you doing in here?" Prue gasped, covering up her shock.

"How did you even get in?" Phoebe asked, impressed by her sister's skills but still annoyed that she had gotten so worried about her.

"I don't know. I was in my room and I really wanted to get in here so I was trying and then I blew up my window and orbed out. When I opened my eyes, I was in here." Pixie explained.

"You haven't read anything from that book out loud, have you?" Piper asked, as she saw what Pixie was doing.

"Why?"

"Right young lady, go back to your room!" Prue snapped suddenly, starting towards her. Pixie raised her arm as if to say no and her four sisters flew out of the attic. They landed in a heap just outside the door and when they tried to get back in, the door slammed in their face.

Pixie's arm was still in front of her and she realised that she must have done that. She kept her arm up so that her sisters couldn't get back in and started flicking through the book again.

"Hey!" Phoebe shouted.

"Prue, why isn't your telekinesis working? Open the door!" Piper said.

"I can't! Hers is stronger than mine! Why is her power stronger than mine? It doesn't make sense!" Prue yelled, exasperated as she tried to get the door open with her telekinesis.

"Pixie! Open the door!" Paige ordered. "Or I'm orbing in and trust me, you don't want me to go there." She continued. She too was starting to get fed up with Pixie's behaviour.

"Pixie Astrid Halliwell! Open the door this instant!" Prue commanded, anger radiating off of her. However, Pixie didn't open the door because she didn't want to and no amount of anger from Prue was going to persuade her to. For some reason, Prue's telekinesis was still weaker than Pixie's even though it was stronger when she was angry.

"This is your last chance Pixie! If you don't open the door now, I'm sending you back to the care home!" Prue threatened.
