"What the hell!" Peter shouts angrily and storms around exasperated. "He can't just leave us here!"
"Well actually he's not the real one in charge, I am the instructor here aren't I?" Four says coldly, but not as coldly as Eric.
"Then what are we doing here?" Peter yelled.
"Maybe this is one thing I agree on Eric with. Anyways it's a beautiful morning and I could use all the fresh air I can get before going back," Toby said, taking a deep breath and once again looking at his surroundings, as if he could see past what we could see.
"It's your fault anyways Peter!" I hear Edward shout. "If you had kept your big mouth shut we would have been on that train right now!"
And then, the huge fight broke out. No one tried to stop it, we all just stood and watched, including Four. Edward was the only one who had the capability of beating Peter, but Peter was really fighting back today.
As the fight went on, no one noticed that I had slipped away from the group. So, when I felt a light weight on my shoulder, I jumped.
"It's only me," Toby said in a gentle voice.
"Oh, hey," I could feel my muscles slowly begin to relax once more and I almost leaned back into him. Only the sound of the fighting stopped me from doing so.
"Here," Toby said, must have realizing my hesitation and pulled me into him, looping his arms over my shoulders. "Don't worry no one will notice, they're too busy being the morons they are and fighting. I bet everyone there will be fighting with one another soon," Toby said as if he had seen this multiple times before, which shouldn't surprise me in the least. We are in Dauntless after all.
I relaxed my tense muscles just a little bit more and began to start thinking of excuses if someone noticed.
Maybe he was teaching me a choke hold….
Or I was about to pass out so he's holding me up…
Or…
My thoughts got distracted when my eyes finally met with the horizon. The sun was well on its way up by now, turning everything a bright, golden morning color. The fighting must have disturbed the birds because they were everywhere, woken from their slumber. The tall grass only let some light through the cracks of their swaying, like they were attempting an allusion of some sort.
How could we be afraid to leave, if the rest of the world looked just like this? Then again maybe we are being kept in…
Once again, I don't dare let this thought disrupt me peaceful state of mind, though the question is nagging at my brain.
"Do you ever wonder if they aren't trying to keep something out, but us in?" I can't help but ask. "Or maybe that we are going to get caught standing here?"
"Don't worry, I'm standing in my Four stance and my arms around you look like I'm crossing my arms. No one can see you past me," Toby chuckled silently, only the rising and falling of his chest gave away that he was laughing.
"You thought this out…" I say thoughtfully and laughed a little myself. "But you still haven't answered my other questions," the laughter falling from my lips and his chest going still.
"Hasn't that question occurred to everyone at least once?" he attempts to play off coolly.
"Maybe, but standing here… It's different. You know? The hidden fear becomes more of a reality."
"Either way, it's nothing we should worry about right now. Let's just enjoy this time we have together. I have a feeling we won't be getting this again for a while."
I did as he said, after all I wanted to enjoy this too. But the feeling was still nagging me…
After another 10 minutes, I couldn't stand still anymore, the nerves were beginning to come back. There was no way that the bickering and anger could last another hour before Eric came back.
"I think we should move now," I whisper up to Toby's chin and place a light peck on the smoothness of his jaw, reminding me of the stolen kisses that we once shared and are forced to share once more.
"Just a few more minutes…"
