-Chapter Thirteen Our True Selves
Chrom and the others arrive to Nowi's home to ask questions about what just happen at the event at the racecourse. Nowi is tired to helping and getting herself into Chrom's problems as it cause her to jump time with him because of her ability to live centuries. She lets them in finally as Chrom explains what happened. Chrom says that he will bring everything back to normal back Nowi explains that it isn't that simple.
Nowi explains if Chrom wants to return to his time he will lose a child in the process but if he stays in the future he will forget everyone that help him to find Robin and forget about his adventures in the past. Soon Nowi casts a spell that make Chrom and Robin remember everything about themselves as the lovers are finally reunited. After saying a few more words to Nowi they leave in pursuit of Sumia.
Nowi watches them leave her house before a strange hooded person comes into Nowi's view. The woman speaks no more as the spellcaster thanks for everything Nowi had done and sends her back into her time. Nowi says nothing but is filled with regret as she leaves a few words that irritate the hooded person.
Back at school Lucina is playing the piano and Gerome enters. He starts of saying he saw what happened to her family was on Tv and says things like if it is her destiny to die then she will. This gets on Lucina's nerves as she yells the man to leave the music room. Nearby Owain and Inigo sees this and lover boys sees this as a chance to get closer with the girl he likes. He talks about if Lucina can teach him how to play the piano as his mother is a dancer. Lucina smiles a little and says yes and hope one day they could do a little dance off. Inigo agrees.
Meanwhile Chrom, Anna and Robin reach to the race course and ask for Sumia. Coredlia and Severa explain that Sumia has been missing for three days and nobody knows where she is. As Anna and Robin ask them for question Chrom ponders if the Sumia they know in this time is really the one from him and Robin's era. As he was about to tell this idea to Anna time is frozen still and Sumia shows up out of nowhere.
Sumia teases before Chrom yells that she isn't the Sumia he knows. The fake Sumia laughs and shows their real identity. The mysterious figure didn't stay for long and confirms Chrom's idea that Sumia he knows here is really the wife he left behind to find Robin. His head is suddenly filled with pain as Chrom screams. Robin rushed to his side and so does Anna but before they find out what has happen, Chrom had already fainted in the arms of his wife.
Chapter Fourteen: Illusions of the mind
"Victory can never be achieved alone. Allegiances must be forged to overcome superior forces. Some born from a shared goal, others out of desperate need, but for a union to succeed, one must determine if an ally is truly a friend or merely an enemy in disguise."
His blue locks swept beautifully across the pillow that his head was lying on. His strong hands lying still and his eyes closed. Blankets covered him to the chest up as he rested so quietly. Robin's brown eyes shook with concern. Just when she finally remembered everything – she lost him. She couldn't put her finger on what happened. She was speaking to Cordelia and the next second she heard her husband on his knees, screaming.
Robin's warm fingers were wrapped around her husband's so dearly. Placing his hand on her cheeks she wished on any Gods out there to make her love wake up.
"The world is about to end and now you decide to take a nap." Robin smirked, hoping it would lighten the tension in her heart but to no avail. Her eyes gazed back onto her husband. "Chrom…" Closing her eyes again, "I know you're in there, so please wake up soon."
A soft click of a door opening filled Robin's ears. Turning away from her husband for a brief second, a woman with blond hair that was curled nicely entered into the room. She also had two small white ribbons in her hair as she wore what seemed to be common doctor clothes, wearing a white doctor's coat.
"Maribelle?"Robin spoke, louder than she had expected.
"Oh, you know me, Mrs. Plegia?" Maribelle blinked. "I don't believe we have met properly until today."
"Oh, it's just-."
It had skipped Robin's mind that people that she knew from her time would not know her in the future as they were not the same people. They were related to them but the bloodline grew so thinner as the years went by that, they nearly weren't. After recovering her memories with the aid of Nowi she also seemed to carry Chrom's knowledge as well about the rules of entering into the new world.
But it still didn't explain how she got to the new Ylisse. She thought her bonds were enough to bring her home.
"It's alright Mrs. Plegia. It's clear you mistaken me for somebody else, a common mistake."
Robin felt dishearten. Even though this Maribelle wasn't a direct linage of the real Maribelle she knew it her time they sure spoke in the same formal manner.
Standing up from her chair, "Anyway, is there anything wrong with my husband?"
With a clipboard and notes in her hands, "Your husband is an puzzling case Mrs. Plegia. In his current sate he is in a deep coma yet there are no indications in the brain scan we conducted to give him one. It is as if he has gain a coma in a different manner from the common hard hit to the head. It is as if he wants to be in the coma. Perhaps escaping from something?" Maribelle chuckled. "Oh, but I am a doctor. To say that your husband has gained a coma in a magical way is just not possible."
"A coma you say?" Robin's voice was breaking. "T-Then when will he wake up?"
"A deep coma is a serious issue. I cannot put an exact date when he will wake up. It could be tomorrow, in a few days, weeks, months or years." Maribelle paused for a moment. "But do not worry Mrs. Plegia. I and my team will conduct more scans and tests to get the date more narrow."
"T-thank you," Robin stuttered once again. "You have no idea how this makes me feel, the uncertainty of not knowing when the love of your life will wake up."
Maribelle bowed. "Please forgive us for not giving more information than that. If your husband received his coma from a blow from the head I could give you more. Like I said, your husband is an interesting case because this did not how he got his." Holding the notes tighter in her arms, "Now if you excuse me."
Returning back to Chrom's side Maribelle's words only convince Robin to hold onto her husband even tighter. Tears escaped her eyes as her hands started to shake. From the distance Maribelle placed her hand tightly around the doorknob and sighed.
A doctor was the last person that anyone would look for hope. And in Robin's case, she really didn't need to lose anymore than she barely had left.
"Chrom, wake up! Wake up!"
A voice echo in his ears, a soft breeze crashing into his face lightly, and soft silk hands traced up and down his face and arms. It didn't take long for his brain to wake him up. Blue skies were painted as a side of green leaves was on the sides. He felt somebody holding onto his right hand tightly, causing him to turn to that direction. To his right was a beautiful woman with long locks of pale blond hair running down her shoulders.
"You know there are better places to take a nap then here, my love." The woman smiled.
"Robin?" Chrom blinked. "Where are we?" The confused king asked his queen.
Robin laughed in the sweetest manner she could do, "Ylisse silly. Now just how hard did you hit your head this time?"
Chrom smiled, "Excuse me but you know that isn't my job but yours." He teased.
Smiling, for the first time in a long time, Chrom let his queen pull him onto his feet. Taking a better look around him he noticed Robin found him in the same manner he did when they first met. The king wasn't surprised as he and Robin always seem to be matched with destiny. No matter how far or how long they would see each other again.
"So does that mean everything is finally over?" He asked as he held onto Robin's hand tighter.
A graceful smile crossed Robin's lips and she softly nodded. "Yes my love. This is not a dream." The queen placed her forehead against her husband's. "There is no need to wake up. We are back, together, finally."
The Queen pointed to a kingdom not far from where they were standing hand in hand. "Over there my love is our kingdom. Believe me now?" She turned to face her man. "Our people are waiting for us."
A chuckle came from the queen and before her king could come up with a response she started to rush down the beaten track. Chrom could feel the warmth escape Robin's hands as they held each other's hand so tightly and the wild grass clippings touching against their ankles as the wind brushed through their hair.
"Hold on tighter alright?" Robin's voice was louder due to the wind crashing into their faces. "And don't ever let go!"
Chrom spoke no words at first as he looked ahead and saw his kingdom getting larger and larger in his view.
"Of course, I've learnt to never do that after what we've been through."
Robin didn't look back but Chrom knew she was smiling with such relief. He knew because her aura was shining brightly more than when she didn't.
The kingdom produce a radiant aura as his people cheered him and Robin's name so loud the heavens could hear their chants. Flowers and other small gifts were thrown down on the dirt path as they entered into their kingdom hand in hand. It was a beautiful sight.
Chrom didn't know how much he missed his kingdom in this era and his people. A place where everyone respected him and knew him but also didn't miss the burdens that came along as their king.
As he and Robin pondered down the main road of Ylisse he wondered what he missed more; living side by side with Robin no matter what era they were in or living in his era where he was respected no matter where he went.
"Robin!" Anna's voice was loud as ever as she entered into the hospital room. "Are you alright, you were crying on the phone when you called."
Robin was too scared to let go of her husband's hand and nodded. "Nothing is alright Anna. My husband is in a coma and the doctors don't even know why."
"Normally I don't waste time like this, profit is everything in this new world but this is Chrom. His like a brother to me. I just can't leave him like this."
Anna sat by the end of the mattress, near where Chrom's feet lay. "So he fell into a coma right after that scream huh?" The merchant gazed at Chrom's sleeping face. He was sleeping so peacefully. "I wonder what his dreaming of right now."
Robin looked at Anna and the woman looked back. "Just because they can't wake up doesn't mean they're not dreaming. Maybe Chrom can hear every word we are saying but can't reply back." The red head smiled. "If there is one thing Chrom taught me was to never lose hope. I mean he didn't and he found you, even if it did take months for it to happen."
With her tears drying up for the moment Robin raised her hand and placed them onto Chrom's forehead, letting his dark blue strands of hair cover her fingers. He was fine. No fever – nothing.
"If he is really dreaming then there is no doubt he is dreaming of our Ylisse. I know he misses it very much."
"But we all know he would always put you first over his people."
Robin smirked, but she didn't know why. "If he did, then he wouldn't take so long to go and find me."
Anna paused. She didn't know what to say. If Chrom was given that map years earlier would he go and search for Robin? Chrom told her it was because Sumia told him to find her that convinced him to go with their children. If Sumia was never there, will Chrom still go and find her or stay and rule his kingdom with his only child?
Her train of thought stopped when Anna heard the chair slid backwards against the tiles. A determine looked crossed Robin's auburn eyes. "Where are you going?" Anna asked.
"I'm wondering, what if Chrom's coma was caused from black magic?"
"Black magic?!" The merchant gasped. "What makes you think that?"
The tactician couldn't find the words to explain to the merchant and even if she did it would take her too long. Just as soon she was about to open her mouth she could see Anna smile.
"Wait, you're a tactician – and a good one at that. I'm sure you know what you're doing."
"Thanks, Anna." Robin smiled. "Now is it alright if you pick the children from the school and bring them here. Also explain what has happened. I know it won't be easy but-"
"Hey don't worry." Anna rushed to hold Robin's hands. "I've been looking after the two girls for months. I'm kinda use to the mother thing now." Both women laughed.
Slipping from Anna's grip Robin made her way out of the room as Anna watched on from Chrom's bedside. The woman looked to the sleeping man to her left. She crossed her arms and sighed.
"You sure pick a 'great' time to take a nap, don't you?"
"Wow, they did this all for me?" Chrom spoke, completely astounded with all the effort his people did to get the streets decorated for him and Robin's return.
"Yes, it comes to show how much your people love you as their king." Robin twirled around and reached for her husband's hands. She held them tighter. "Lucina and Morgan woke up minutes earlier then you and their waiting at the palace. Let's hurry and see them."
Chrom pondered for a moment "But somebody is missing, right? Why do I feel like there is? The only woman I've ever married is Robin."
But before the king could answer his own bothersome question, Robin leaped and dragged her husband down the path where their palace lived. Chrom wished his wife would slow down and let him wave back to his people but they didn't seem to mind their king who had just return after months in a different era rushing past them. To even see him so close and so personal was enough for many.
His people kept on clapping and cheering words of support but many just called him by "Our Exalt, Chrom has returned!" and no words could describe their joy.
"Robin, have the others returned to see us and the children again? Like Fredrick or Sully?"
"I'm sure they heard the news and have returned just to see us all together. News of a king suddenly gone missing isn't something that stays in one kingdom for very long." She explained as they both kept on running.
"Are you sure we aren't missing anyone?"
Robin came to a sudden halt.
"Well what do you mean, my love?" Robin blinked in confusion. "After all the people we hired in the war I honestly can't remember them all at the top of my head."
"No, somebody special, she stood out from the rest." The king pondered. Chrom's train of thought stopped when he saw the unpleased look on Robin's face. "Alright, maybe we aren't missing anyone." He said disheartened. "Maybe I hit my head hard on the ground when I got here." Chrom laughed.
Robin simply smiled, "Yes, maybe you did dear."
When news broke out to the children, all of them reacted so differently. Lucina rushed to the hospital without thinking twice, Morgan froze for a moment before chasing desperately after his older sister. Cynthia froze and stayed silent for the whole time as Anna guided them to their father. No heroic lines, no lines of hope or joy. Her sapphire eyes were as empty as her mind. What was she suppose to do?
She loved her father, no doubt about that. But why was she still standing at the door of her father's room? Was she trying to avoid her siblings? Anna? Robin? The young teen shook her head. She was never like this. Nothing would put her down like this.
"Lucy and Morgan must be thinking I'm such a horrible daughter to father right know…" Cynthia sighed.
Taking her eyes away from the ground, a woman caught her eye. Her hair was long and was in a beautiful shade of pale brown and wearing an outfit that belonged in her era. Her eyes widen with a slight hope that it could be the person she had been waiting to join her and father for the longest time in forever – her mother. Rushing away from the door where her father slept in peacefully, Cynthia picked up her pace as the woman in her vision started to fade in the more crowed areas of the hospital she went.
"Mother!" She screamed. People would give her a look or two but would continue to make their own way. Searching around in the same spot over and over again Cynthia smiled when her eyes landed on her mother in the distance.
Cynthia pushed and shoved people away as if she was digging for gold. She was desperate to catch up to her dear mother. Everything was going swell until she reached to the main entrance of the hospital as she watched the beautiful woman walk out the building and started to cross the road. Wasting no time she left foot again and kept going as her vision on the woman as she stopped as she turned around and reached her hand out to her child.
It was Sumia, smiling and being the happiest Cynthia had ever seen her mother be.
The distance was getting shorter as the young teen reached over to her mother's hand and as soon their fingers tips were about to touch she felt her body being pulled back with huge force that she crashed onto the road.
Opening her eyes she discovered her vision of her mother was gone and saw Morgan had his arms around her waist, both on the middle of the busy hospital road. The emptiness was soon filled with beeping horns and yelling of the sick people and their loved ones. The air was also filled with gossip and judging stares.
"M-Morgan?" Cynthia stuttered.
"What the hell are you doing Cynthia?!" Morgan screamed as they both sat up."Why were you running like that in front of an incoming car?!" Cynthia noticed Morgan was just about ready to cry. "First Dad and now you too, do you want to join Dad in his coma now do you?!"
Still shaken the young girl just shook her head. Morgan quickly raced and dragged his sister into his arms. Cynthia's face went all red. "I know it's hard but trying to injure yourself isn't the answer."
Pulling apart from Morgan's arms, "But I wasn't."
The car behind them pressed his horn, reminding where Morgan and Cynthia were and both pulled themselves to their feet and let the car pass. Morgan held onto his sister's hand as he guided her to the footpath.
Continuing their conversation, "I saw my mother; she was just over there stretching her hand to me." The girl pointed to the footpath across from them. "She had really long brown hair and was wearing clothes back in my era!"
Morgan stared quietly at where Cynthia pointed. He sighed, "I don't see anything there Cynthia." Cynthia looked across the road to where she pointed. "If there was somebody there I would have seen them and the many people here too."
"She…wasn't real?" Morgan noticed his sister's voice was starting to break.
Trying to not feel guilty with his words he just nodded. That confirmation sent tears running down the teenager's face. Morgan stayed silent until his brother senses came over him and comforted his sister by pulling her into his arms softly.
And the rest of their conversation for the next five minutes was filled with muffles and whimpers.
In the distance the same black hooded nightmare that surrounded itself around Chrom and his family watched in the distance. Their hands clutched into tight fists as its long hair ran past its hood that covered its face well. She kicked into the air and cussed under her breath. Tears seem to be running down her face.
"I refuse. I won't let you save this world. Just let me kill one of your children and get back to the past. If I can't destroy the past I might as well destroy the future you are trying so hard to make."
Their cold eyes filled with vengeance stared at the other of Chrom's children.
"Morgan, yes, it is time for you pay for your father's foolish mistake."
A/N: I'm so sorry for the three month delay. I had to update my other stories and plus studying at University gives you little spare time to write or draw (I draw as well guys.) Anyway I hope you enjoy this chapter and I hope it is worth the wait.
This story is reaching its end soon but not until Chrom faces his final trial and if he will stay in the future and forget everything that has happen since he got there or go back home and lose a child in the process. Until then, R&R if you can guys!
