The timeline of this Chapter happens before the battle between Hibari Kyouya and Suzuki Adelheid.

Forgotten Melody

Summary: There is nothing special about her. She only approaches him quietly as if she doesn't exist. Everyone could forget about her so easily, but Enma couldn't. He wishes to see the girl once more time again.

Chapter 12: Fear.

"Enma, did you call me?"- Adelheid steps inside the room and carefully locks the door. The Ice Guardian only follows order from the Tenth Shimon Boss- "What's wrong? Are you not feeling well?"

"No... I'm fine."- Enma shakes his head. His eyes are looking at the sky and finding something. Something that he is not sure- "Adelheid, this is difficult to believe, but I have a feeling that Monochrome is here. I can... sense her presence."

"It's impossible."- The Ice Guardian quickly answers. Still, she is surprised to hear what Enma told her- "We are at our base. There is no way for an outsider to come here, unless she is from Vongola family."

"...Or she might be taken by Vongola."- The scarlet hair boy continues. His voice is serious- "They might use her as a hostage to stop me. If that happens, I will have no mercy..."- The Shimon Boss stands up and walks closer to the window- "I'm sorry to ask this, Adelheid... However, can you check around the building for me? Well, I want to make sure..."

"Alright, I will take a look."- Adelheid gives out a light sign and opens the door. Before she leaves, she doesn't forget to remind her Boss- "You did well in Vongola ceremony. I hope you will keep your focus to crush them later, Enma"

The young boy only nods. Unfortunately, he has no idea that the Ice Guardian doesn't follow his order this time. Adelheid believes that Enma is thinking too much. How can a normal girl enter the war between Vongola and Shimon family on their holy island? At this moment, checking around the island to find a useless girl is wasting of time. She and other Guardians have their business to do and they have to prepare to win this battle.

The victory must be belonged to Shimon family.

However, little both Enma and Adelheid know, the locked door couldn't stop one person from listening their conversation- Daemon in Julie body. He quickly walks down to the building basement to hide the sleeping princess before the prince could find her. The illusionist begins to wonder if he has made a right choice to keep this useless girl with him all the time. In any case, it's too late to regret. If she has no use, he will simply throw her away.

Let the forgotten girl be forgotten...

Monochrome is woken up by a drop of water.

After more than two cold drops of water falling on her face and hands, the poor girl tries her best to move her fingers. Touching the solid floor, she opens her eyes in surprise. She scratches the ground to make sure about something.

She is not dreaming.

She is not in the illusion world.

This could be a storage room, Monochrome thinks. There are several old boxes, barrels and books lying around with dust and spider webs. No one has ever come to this place for a long time. A very small window is at the top of the ceiling, which gives her a little warm sunlight. Although the air inside the forgotten storage is humid and smelly, she still feels great to be back to the reality world. If she has stayed longer in the darkness of illusion world, she would have gone mad...

Kuroi licks her hand gently.

Monochrome smiles slightly, and pats the black cat. Taking a deep breath, she tries to stand up. Her injured leg hasn't recovered completely yet, as well as Kuroi's left eye. No, she is wrong... His left eye will be lost forever.

The black-hair girl looks around to find her bag. Fortunately, her kidnapper didn't take her belongings. She needs to change the bandages for their wounds. Why does the scythe man put her in this storage? Will he come back and do something on her later...? Those questions keep wandering in her mind. There is no time to waste. As long as she is alive, she must find a way out of here quickly.

Of course, the door is locked tightly. The storage door doesn't have any window, so Monochrome can't take any look. There could be someone watching her from outside, so she should be careful not to make any loud noise.

The ceiling is too high to reach, even for a cat. Everything is covered by a thick layer of dust, so it makes Monochrome cough a lot. There is nothing useful in the boxes or barrels to break or unlock the door. There are some many old clothes and accessories inside the boxes. The barrels contain old fruit wine, but she is not in the mood to try them. Besides, the wine in this storage has a pretty bad smell...

Only the bookcase is left. There could be a hidden switch for a secret passage around the bookcase or on the books, she hopes. Of course, there is no such thing... The black hair girl sighs, but she will not give up easily.

Monochrome closes her eyes and listens. Everything is quiet. There is no sound of footsteps as if no one is outside to watch her. If there has been someone, that person would have heard suspicious noise coming from the storage room, and gone to check on her immediately. Then, why didn't the scythe man order anyone to keep an eye on her?

"The guard may have gone to bathroom..."- Monochrome makes a guess- "I have to escape from here quickly before anyone comes back...!"

The poor girl still has no idea what is happening to her and to her friends... How is Yamamoto doing at this moment? Why does Enma try to kill Tsuna? If someone told her everything was a dream, she would believe them with no doubt. However, she saw it with her own eyes. Enma is not a normal student, as well as Tsuna and their friends. They are... something else.

She feels hungry. For Kuroi, he is super hungry.

How long has she been staying in the illusion world? How many days have passed in this storage room? She doesn't have a clue about the time anymore. However, the girl knows she must have stayed from her home long enough to have rotten sandwiches in her bag... Throwing them away, she searches for a chocolate bar and eat it. Kuroi dislikes chocolate, but there is no choice for him. He has to eat something to survive from an empty stomach. She finishes her snack quickly and continues to search every corner of the storage.

"Am I still in the illusion world?"

Monochrome asks herself. In the end, she can't find anything useful to escape out of here.

Kuroi is sitting next to her while she is holding a flute and a music sheet for it. She found these two items when she checked the bookcase. The music sheet looks very old, but it's still readable. Flute is one of her favorite instruments. It's easy to carry around, and the melody is peaceful and cheerful at the same time. If this is still the illusion world, there will be nothing wrong to play this song.

She wipes the dust on the sheet again, and starts to play the flute song.

The song carries a sad melody. Monochrome can feel it. When she finishes playing the song, something is heavy inside her chest. This flute song reminds her of something from the past, but she forgets about it. Why can't she remember...?

Suddenly, the book case moves back slowly. Soon, it reveals a secret passage behind it!

Monochrome's heart jumps out of her chest. She is too surprised to do anything. Kuroi has to scratch her leg, so she can return back to the reality. Rubbing her eyes again, she can't believe the miracle in front of her eyes. The girl looks at the dark passageway and the flute in her hand again. This passage is only opened when the flute is played this song, she guesses. No wonder why she couldn't find any secret switch anywhere. She has to thank the genius person who designed this secret door. Monochrome bets her kidnapper doesn't know how to play a flute, so he has no idea about the passageway behind the thick bookcase.

Turning on the flashlight, the black hair girl decides to take a risk. Her heart beats fast when she runs down the stairs of the passage. She doesn't look back. Few seconds later, the bookshelf moves back and covers the secret door again. There are only her hurry footsteps echoing the whole passageway. Her injured leg hurts again, but she doesn't care. The stairs seem to be endless. It is really scary to be alone in darkness, especially in a place she knows nothing about... With Kuroi in her hands, she has more courage to move on. She is not completely alone!

Finally, the stairs end.

Monochrome stops, and points the flashlight behind her immediately. There is no one. She gasps for breath and starts to look around. The long passage way leads her to a small cave. There is a dry fountain in the middle. Looking at the thick layer of dust on the fountain, the girl thinks this place is also forgotten...

Another surprise comes to her when she takes a good look at the fountain statue.

For few seconds, Monochrome believes this statue is her mirror image with different clothes.

The statue also has long hair, but she wears a noble short dress with a micro in her hands. Her eyes are close peacefully. Although there are several cracks on the statue face, Monochrome can still see the statue makes a beautiful smile, as if the statue could come to life and start to sing.

Both the darkness and the tiredness are playing tricks on her eyes.

This statue is more beautiful than her. Monochrome shakes her head and looks at the feet of the statue. There is a white box without keyhole. Being controlled by her curiosity, the girl reaches her hand to take the box. At first, the box is locked tightly. She can't open it with her bare hands. However, after few minutes of struggling, the lid suddenly makes a sound as if it's opened by its own will. Although Monochrome is a bit confused, she quickly takes off the lid and looks inside the box.

There is an old silver ring inside with a sealed envelope.

After she takes these two items from the box, there is a strange sound nearby. Another miracle is happening. A part of the small cave is moving slowly. A little sunlight comes in, and makes the cave a little bit warmer. The secret exit is covered by some thick bushes, but she can feel the wind and the fresh air.

At last, the little girl finds an escape out of this creepy place.

It's not the time to celebrate.

Monochrome wipes some drops of sweat on her face. After escaping from the prison, she ends up in the middle of a forest. Once again, she doesn't know anything about this new place. There could be some dangerous animals lurking around or the scythe man could appear out of nowhere, so she has to be really careful. The little girl is finally outside, but she has no future plan to escape from this nightmare.

What should she do...?

More importantly, where is she?

It's not difficult to notice a huge mansion standing in the bushy forest. She could go there and ask for help. However, after few seconds, Monochrome changes her mind. Judging from the location, she feels the storage room could be the part of the mansion or the scary kidnapper's headquarter. Of course, she has no intention to go back there again. Besides, she is not sure if someone is still living in the mansion.

Every plan is risky at this moment.

Kuroi is still weak, so she carries him in her bag. When the exit path was found, she ran out of the cave with both overwhelming happiness and fear. She was really afraid to be caught again, so she didn't waste any second to think anything else. She only wishes to be survived. In the end, she forgets to put this white box back on the fountain.

The ring and the sealed envelope are inside the box. The girl looks back a bit, nervously. It feels really terrible when you take something that isn't belonged to you. She sighs heavily and puts the box inside the bag. Why is she in another difficult situation again...?

"Hey! Who's there?"

Monochrome is started. That's right...! She is still in enemy's territory. The prison guard would have checked the room and found no one there. He could have informed more people to look for her. There is no time to think. She has to move as fast as she can!

"Stop right there!"- The pursuer speaks with angry voice.

Her heart beats fast again.

It's not easy to move around the thick forest, especially with her wounded leg. Her pursuer quickly grabs her arm, but he soon sets loose his grab. Instead of hurting her, he asks with a surprised voice:

"Wait...! What the...? Mono! Why are you here?!"

This warm voice... is returned to him.

Monochrome opens her eyes, and looks directly at the person who is still holding her arm. She can't hold back her voice anymore, so she cries out:

"En... Enma...!"

PS: At first, I was planning to continue the reunion moment a bit more. However, I decide to save for it next time :D.

Of course, in the manga, there is no secret passageway in Shimon's mansion. Everything is made up for Monochrome's existence only. If you are confused about something, I'm sure you will find your answers soon in future Chapters :D.
