I Need You To Stay Awake

Kurt pushed some of the debris from his face, luckily nothing to heavy landed on him so he was able to remove it. He saw Rachel brushing some dust from Brittany and helping her to her feet. They were lucky a doorframe shielded them from a lot of the falling ceiling. Kurt pulled himself up and looked across the room. There was a small fire in the corner and some of the demons were already in the house. One bent down and began moving pieces of brick and wood, revealing Dani where she lay underneath. She rolled onto her side and began to cough, her eyes opening to meet the sight above her. Her shock was only enhanced when one reached down and hauled her up by her shoulders. Kurt was on his feet watching everything, they hadn't seemed to realise anyone else was in the room. 'Dani!' He shouted, coughing slightly as he did.

'Get out of here Kurt.' She replied groggily, her eyes still fixed on the demon. He looked just like a regular man playing dress up in a black cloak. 'Please just go!'

'We have you at last.' The demon said, grinning. Dani finally noticed that he wasn't just a man. He was sinister and dark, red eyes flashing on and off as he studied her. 'What a beautiful creature.' He whispered, pulling her in close and smelling her. Dani winced, closing her eyes at the contact. 'She's almost ready.' He turns to the group and nods. 'Let's get her back.' He turns on his heel and throws Dani out of the broken house, her back landing heavily on the concrete. She is winded and cant fight as he lifts her up once more.

'We have to do something Kurt!' Rachel calls to him. He begins to look around, his eyes setting on what was left of his emergency kit. He scrambles across the floor and rummages around, picking out a bottle marked 'exploding potion.' In one swift movement he gets to his feet and launches the bottle. It hits the demon above Dani on the back, sending him down on one knee as he releases a cry of pain. He turns to Kurt, the red permanently glowing from his eyes.

'Oh dear.' Kurt whispers as the demon gets to his feet and begins to walk towards the house.

'That was a bad idea kid.' He growls, the other Lords of War backing him up. 'Gabriel, Makks, stay with the alchemist.' He points and two of the demons drop back, flanking Dani. Kurt starts walking backwards but he knows he has no where to hide. Dani looked up to the two demons around her. They were watching the action, not her, so she could plan her move.

'Did you hear that Quinn?' Santana asked, looking flushed with panic.

'Yeah, it sounded like another explosion.' Quinn agreed, her breath ragged from their long run.

'This can't be happening, it can't!' Santana shouted to no one as they ran.

'Everything will be fine Santana, you have to believe that.'

'I don't Q, I really don't.' Santana said as they turned the corner. There was smoke coming from somewhere. 'Q that's my house!'

'Are you sure?'

'Positive.' Santana said, running faster than she thought possible. They turned on to Santana's street just in time to see Dani make her move. She swung her legs and kicked at the demons around her. They fell to the floor which allowed her to get up and go after the demon facing Kurt. She focused all of her energy on him and held up her hand. A blue light shot out of her palm just as her eyes changed color. But the demon was just as quick. He spun around, pulled his sword from it's sheath and lifted it, using it to block her attack. The energy rebounded off of it in all directions until he had it under control. Now the blade was absorbing it. After a moment Dani could no longer hold her energy. She let her arm fall from exhaustion and stared at the demon, his cold smile fixed on her.

'That wasn't very nice was it.' He said darkly, before pointing the sword at her. Her own blue energy was sent back towards her, but as it came near to knocking her down she heard a voice.

'Dani! Dani hang on!' Santana screamed, running down the street. She tried to send the demon flying but she was too far away. Quinn was trying the same with her freeze. When Dani heard Santana's voice something was ignited within her. She held her arms over her face and concentrated. The beam of energy hit her arms, but it wasn't painful. She opened her eyes to see a forcefield around her. She had made it from the energy, deflecting it around her as though she were in an impenetrable bubble. She looked shocked, but smiled, letting out a small laugh. But then the actual force of his power hit her. It sent her to her knees before pushing her backwards, slowly weakening her.

'I can do this all day alchemist.' The demon snarled, his buddies standing all around him.

'Yeah, well, not today asshole.' Santana said, stopping and throwing him into the nearest car. The energy stopped coming and Dani sank to the floor, breathing heavily. Quinn lifted her hands and froze the demons before turning to see Kurt and the others emerge from the destroyed building.

'Are you guys okay?' She asked.

'Fine. A few bumps and bruises but all things considered, I'd say we're lucky.' Kurt said. He had a gash on his arm as well as a small one above his eye. Rachel and Brittany seemed to be more in shock than anything else. Santana was at Dani's side in a second, dropping to her knees and lifting her face.

'Dani, baby, oh God, are you okay?' She asked, her frantic talking causing Dani to smile.

'Never better babe.' She breathed painfully, covering her mouth as she coughed. Her eyes were still glowing and this time Santana noticed something else.

'Dani.'

'What San?' She looked up at her.

'Your hair is turning blue.' Dani took some of her long blonde hair in her hand and, sure enough, the ends were blue.

'Well, beats a home dip-dye kit.' She joked. 'Get me up will you.' Dani held out her hand for Santana to grab onto. Santana pulled her to her feet and studied the damage.

'Are you okay?' Santana asked, still wildly concerned as Dani stumbled.

'Fine... I'm... fi...' She started to speak but found herself too tired. Santana saw the blood on the back of her neck for the first time, as well as noticing the way her hands were shaking. There was dirt all over her, and scratches down her side. She looked at Santana one final time before collapsing. Santana managed to catch her and lower her gently.

'Dani, I got you baby, don't worry.' Santana whispered as the others came over. Dani was still conscious, just exhausted. Santana put her hand around the back of her neck, blood coming quicker now. She removed her hand and showed it to the others. 'We need to get out of here.' She said, Quinn nodding.

'I'm, I'm fine San.' Dani whispered.

'I know you are, I just need you to stay awake for me okay?'

'But I'm really tired.' Dani swallowed, closing her eyes.

'I know you are, please just stay with me a little bit longer.' Santana looked up at Quinn desperately. 'Can you try and get Mr Schue?'

'I can try, I don't know if it'll work San.' She admitted because of their lack of contact with him so far.

'Just try, please.' Santana begged, Quinn nodding and moving away to start shouting. 'Kurt, there should be keys to my dad's car in a drawer in the kitchen.'

'Santana, your house it's...'

'I know! Kurt, I know. But we have to go so please try and find them.' Santana said, on the verge of tears.

'Okay, Rachel come help me.' Kurt said, pulling her arm. 'Come on!' He said more aggressively, tearing Rachel's eyes away from Dani.

'It's okay, everything will be okay.' Santana whispered, lifting Dani onto her lap. 'Stay awake.' She said, kissing her head. Brittany was at Dani's other side, holding her hand.

'Are you okay Brit?' Santana asked.

'I'm fine.' She smiled. 'But Dani was a bit weird before we were attacked.'

'Weird how?' Santana wondered.

'Like she knew something bad was going to happen.'

'And then it did.'

'Yeah, it did.' Brittany agreed and they sat in silence, waiting for their friends to return.
