Chapter 13

Hinata jolted up into a sitting position, her eyes wide as she was suddenly fully awake. "What?"

"I finally managed to track that fucker down," Hiroshi explained, trying to catch his breath.

"Are you okay?" she asked, concerned by his panting.

He cleared his throat, steadying his breathing. "Yeah, I've been doing a lot of running around tonight. As of right now I'm near Kobayashi's current hideout. I'm trying to figure out the situation so that you can go in after him. So far I only see a few guys standing watch, but there could be more. Bring your sniper to wipe out those guys first. It's not safe for me to call you again, so wait for my text. I could be awhile so just be patient."

"I don't believe this," Hinata murmured. "You found Kobayashi? But how?"

"I promised you that I would do everything in my power to find him. I got enough leads and ended up here. I'd bring along that boyfriend of yours for back-up just in case," Hiroshi suggested. "But I gotta let you go for now. I'll text you when I can." He ended the call before Hinata could say anything else.

Feeling numb, the young woman looked at the floor, shocked at what had just happened. She hadn't expected Hiroshi to find Kobayashi so quickly. Hell, she secretly had thought that he'd never be able to find the bastard. Kobayashi seemed to be untouchable. Until now.

I'd bring along that boyfriend of yours for back-up just in case. Hinata sighed, running a hand through her hair. She hadn't mentioned anything to him about what had happened between her and Hidan. There was no way she could ask Hidan for help at this point. Looked like she was going solo.

She hurriedly got dressed, opting for a pair of tight black pants and a matching fitted shirt. The top was sleeveless and zipped up in the front. However, the zipper got stuck halfway up her chest, stopping right in front where her bra was. She tugged at it and sighed in exasperation when it would not budge up or down. It was more low cut than Hinata would've preferred. However, she was not about to go searching for a different shirt over a cleavage issue.

"Screw it," she muttered, rolling her eyes.

Hinata pulled on her black running shoes, then walked over to her wardrobe. Inside looked like any other ordinary wardrobe, with various dresses and outfits hanging up. Yet once the clothing was pushed aside, a hidden door was revealed. Hinata slid the door to the side, revealing her weapons stash. Several guns were mounted in the wardrobe, ranging from handguns, rifles, shotguns, and an assortment of others. Different jobs called for different guns.

"A sniper," she mused to herself, eyeigher three options.

Hinata chose the lightest one of the three. Although it was not the most powerful option, it was the most accurate. She loaded the weapon, then set it on her bed. Anxiety was rearing its ugly head as she waited for Hiroshi's message. Trying to stay preoccupied, she picked out two handguns to take along, as well as a set of throwing knives. The knives would be quieter even if the guns had silencers.

Her heart was pounding as she shrugged on a long black overcoat, and her hands were trembling slightly as she began to hide her weapons into the many pockets. The only gun she wouldn't be able to fit was the sniper rifle, which she slung over her back. She stuffed some extra ammunition into the coat as well, then grabbed a few miniature grenades in case things got too messy. Although she was ready, she still hadn't heard from Hiroshi. He had warned her that he might be awhile, but the wait was maddening. Hinata was excited, and she could feel the adrenaline rushing through her body. At the same time, she was terrified and felt sick at the aspect of going up against that monster.

"Come on, Hiroshi," she muttered to herself as she exited the bedroom.

Once she reached the kitchen, her cell phone beeped with a message. She quickly read the address that Hiroshi had sent her, before receiving a second message from him.

Decide right now whether or not you're ready for this. Once you get there, there's no turning back. I can't help you from this point on, so you're on your own.

Hinata wrote a message in response to his. I'm ready. Thank you for everything. I'll call you when I get out. She had decided against writing 'if' instead of 'when'. If she had doubts now, she might as well be signing her own death warrant.

Two minutes later, she was in her car on the way to her destination. Kobayashi's current hideout was a half hour away from where she lived.

"That bastard has basically been my damn neighbor," Hinata hissed, shocked that he had been so close for God knows how long.

As she drove, she held her phone tightly in her hand. She would be passing Hidan's house on the way to the hideout. If she was going to try to ask for his help, she had to do it soon. Taking in a deep breath, she called Hidan's number. It rang several times, before going to voicemail.

"Not fucking here right now," Hidan's voice said. "Leave a fucking message and I'll call you back if I feel like it."

With a dejected sigh, she ended the call without bothering to leave a voicemail. It's probably better this way. Doubt he wants anything to do with me at this point...

Letting her phone fall onto the seat, she passed Hidan's house a few minutes later. Hinata didn't even realize she was crying until she felt the tears streaming down her face.

"Dammit..." She bitterly wiped them away and continued on her way.

Meanwhile

Hidan didn't hear his phone go off in the next room as he stood in the shower. He had been in there for almost twenty minutes, though time seemed to have no meaning to him.

Kakuzu had dropped Hidan off, showing a rare act of kindness by offering to grab Hidan some food from one of those late-night fast food drive-thrus. As much as he hated spending money, it was strange to see his partner so bent out of shape over a damn girl. In the time that he had known Hidan, he had never seen him with the same girl more than once. They were always just one-night stands, as Hidan didn't like the hassle of any type of commitment. But that last girl he had been seeing, Hinata, had been different. Hidan might've been a loud, obnoxious bastard, but he had seemed genuinely happy to be with her.

Hidan leaned up against the shower wall, barely feeling the scalding hot water as it rained over him. He closed his eyes, remembering the shower that he had taken with Hinata. He could almost feel her petite, naked body pressed up against his, and he grew hard at the thought.

"I fucked up," he muttered bitterly. "First thing in the morning, I'm going to her fucking house."

Hidan jumped at the sudden pounding on the bathroom door and slipped, nearly falling on his ass before catching himself.

"Hey, did you drown in there?" Kakuzu impatiently called through the door.

"What the fuck, Kakuzu!" he yelled angrily as he shut the water off and tore the shower curtain away. "The hell do you want?"

"I brought you some damn food," the older man replied flatly. "Normally I'd make you pay me back, but I'll let it slide this time."

Hidan snorted as he dried himself off with his towel. "And why the fuck would I pay you back? You fucking offered to get me food. I didn't ask for shit."

Kakuzu ignored that comment. "I figured I'd be nice and let you know so that your food didn't get cold. But it's no skin off my ass if it does get cold. I'm going home. Don't get too shitfaced tonight."

"Whatever," Hidan grumbled in response.

He finished drying off and exited the bathroom, knowing that Kakuzu was gone and it was safe to walk around naked. In the kitchen he found a paper bag waiting for him on the table, along with a large fountain soda. He looked into the bag to find two burgers and a container of fries. Normally he would've scarfed the food down in under five minutes. Yet the thought of eating the greasy fast food in front of him made his stomach churn. Instead he left everything on the table and proceeded to his bedroom.

Hidan flopped down onto his bed and picked up the remote to turn the TV on. He boredly flipped through the channels, stopping on a late-night softcore porn special on one of the movie channels. The housewife was moaning loudly as the cable guy was having his way with her on the living room coffee table. Although the woman was beautiful, Hidan thought she was ugly in comparison to Hinata.

He suddenly threw his remote at the wall, causing its batteries to pop out and clatter in different directions. "Fuck this! I'm not waiting till the fucking morning."

Although it was the middle of the night, he didn't care as he hurriedly got dressed. All he cared about was seeing Hinata again. Even if she didn't want anything to do with him, he at least wanted to talk to her one last time. Hopefully he wouldn't fuck this up.

Hidan impatiently yanked on his clothes, then grabbed his phone and stuffed it into his back pocket. Since it had been face-down, he hadn't seen the notification that he had missed a call from Hinata. Snatching up his car keys, he rushed out of his house and into his car. Hidan backed out of his driveway, narrowly missing the mailbox in the process. He sped towards Hinata's house, praying that she would at least hear him out.

Elsewhere

Hinata finally arrived at her destination, deciding to park a quarter mile away from the hideout. She left her car in a small parking lot that belonged to a low quality discount motel. Half of the hotel's neon sign had burnt out, and someone had spray painted a penis on the side of the building. Before Hinata exited her vehicle, she gazed down at her phone. She knew there was a chance that she wouldn't make it out of the hideout alive. If that was the case, she couldn't risk letting Kobayashi or any of his men know about anyone she contacted. With a brief hesitation, she quickly deleted all of her contacts, then erased her call history and past messages.

It's for Hiroshi's safety, she told herself. Hidan's too...

Hinata shut her phone off and stuck it in the glove box before leaving her vehicle. Since it was the dead of night, not a single soul was out at this hour. Even the string of hookers that normally walked up and down the sidewalks were gone. It was as if the area was a ghost town.

Scanning the area, she hurried towards the hideout, keeping in the shadows. It was a short walk, but it would be a hassle to explain why there was a sniper rifle slung on her back. Hinata came up to a tall building with a fire escape, which she silently ascended to reach the top floor. She jumped up and grabbed the ledge of the roof, pulling herself up. Now that she was on the rooftop, she had a perfect view of the building that Hiroshi had claimed to be Kobayashi's current hideout.

She could see three men standing watch in separate areas. There were no windows on the walkways where they stood, making her job more convenient. Hinata pulled the rifle off of her back and aimed at the first man. She looked through the scope, waiting for the man to pause long enough to grab a cigarette from his shirt pocket. Before he had managed to pull one free from his pack, Hinata pulled the trigger. She smiled to herself as the bullet shot him directly between the eyes. The man collapsed, killed instantly from the blast. The other two men had not been within eyesight of the shooting, nor had they heard the muffled sound of the rifle going off.

Hinata quickly aimed at the second man and waited for him to stop pacing. Just as he began to type a text message with his phone, he was shot in the head as well, the bullet passing in through his left temple and out through his right. He crumpled to the floor, dropping his phone in the process. Two down, one to go.

The third man had moved out of sight, and Hinata narrowed her eyes, trying to find him. Had he heard the shots and alerted Kobayashi? The thought made Hinata apprehensive.

"Come on, where are you?" she mumbled, looking through the scope.

She spotted him a moment later, though he had moved away from the building. With a sigh, she hurried down the fire escape that was on the opposite side of the building from where she had climbed up. The moon barely illuminated enough light to see anything, but in her eyes, that was an advantage. Her last target was about fifty feet away, rummaging through his car for whatever it was that he was looking for. Hinata took the opportunity to fire a single shot through the back of his head. The man collapsed onto the pavement, a pool of blood spreading around his body.

The easy part was over. Hinata slung the rifle across her back again and walked up to the building. She doubted that she would use the sniper again, since it was a long-range gun. However, she was not about to ditch it and have some drunk idiot stumble across it and go on a zombie apocalypse shooting spree. Taking a deep breath, she opened the door of the building and was greeted with an empty hallway. There were several closed doors on both sides, and Hinata pulled one of her pistols out of her coat. The only light she could see came from the very last door on the left side. There was no sense in breaking in every single room since she had no way of knowing which one Kobayashi might be in. Going to the only lit room seemed to be the most plausible choice.

Hinata silently walked down the corridor, her heart pounding away in her chest. With each step she took, her fear increased. After fifteen years, she was finally about to come face to face with the bastard who had destroyed her life. How would she react when she saw him? Would she shoot him dead on the spot? Would she freeze up and get killed as a result of her hesitation? Her lack of an answer made her that much more nervous.

Snap out of it, she chastised herself. It's now or never. Don't screw this up because there is no second chance. Mustering up her courage, she entered the room.

Kobayashi turned too look at her and grinned widely. "I've been expecting you. Hinata."

Hinata stopped dead in her tracks, her gun clutched tightly in her hand as she pointed it at him. She struggled not to lose her composure, though it was a nearly impossible task. Kobayashi had aged in the past decade and a half. His dark hair had turned completely gray and there more lines on his hardened face. The scar on his cheek was exactly as Hinata had remembered it, as were those emotionless gray eyes.

"You know my name," she mused, quirking an eyebrow as she tried to look indifferent.

"I know a lot of things about you." Kobayashi sat back in his chair, his gaze glued on her. "More than you can ever imagine."

He was not alone on the large room. Several men and a few women were guarding him, each of them pointing a gun at her. They were all dressed impeccably in pressed suits, a standard that the Yakuza strictly adhered to.

"And how do you know about me?" Hinata clicked the safety off, her lavender eyes staring blankly into his.

"I have my ways," he told her, his sadistic smirk growing. "And I also know that you won't be leaving this place alive. Hell, if you're lucky, maybe I'll leave your body in one piece instead of chopping it up when I'm done."

"Well, if I'm going down, I'll make sure to take you with me," she said flatly.

Kobayashi held her gaze. "We'll see about that. But before you go and shoot and me, I have a surprise for you." He nodded to one of the men, who responded by opening a door in the room and stepping into it.

Hinata frowned, wary of what was about to happen. Her heart skipped a beat and her eyes widened as a familiar face was shoved into the room, bound and gagged.

"Oh, my god, Hiroshi..." she murmured, turning white.
