Chapter 14: Final Battle against Verga
Almost immediately Manuel tried to use his massive size to his advantage and attempted to stand on the agents who at once moved back and hid behind a group of pillars. Kyle growled in frustration.
"Great now what," He groaned.
Angela spoke, she sounded terrified but she bravely managed to concentrate on what was happening and stayed as calm as possible.
"This thing has to have a weak point," She stated, "What about those eyes on its knees?"
Dave also called out.
"Angela could be onto something there, especially since those eyes are real eyes," He remarked, freaked out, "It can see us".
As if to prove that statement one of the eyes turned and spotted them and soon the monster began to approach them to attack. Deciding to take a chance they backed away from the monster as they opened fire on the eyes with their submachine guns. They were only able to hit two of the eyes at the moment however as the other eyes were blocked by other pillars. As they fired the monster that Manuel had become shrieked and reared up before trying to stamp on them, they quickly dived out of the way and, once recovered resumed fire. The monster tried to slowly back off and Kyle realised Angela and Dave had been right.
"Great idea guys, it's working," He called out to them, "Let's keep it up!"
"Alright."
"Roger that."
They continued to fire until finally the two eyes on the frontal legs were totally destroyed and it was weakened.
Kyle nodded to the others, they knew they now had to try and manuver around to the other side to attack the other eyes. However the monster was now flailing out trying to attack blindly, making it more dangerous. They hurried from pillar to pillar trying to get behind it, once they made it the monster stopped flailing and readied itself to attack again. Their submachine guns were now out of ammo however so they had to rely on their shotguns. This meant however that they had to get closer and therefore were in more danger of being crushed. The moment the monster was prepared it tried to crush them again, they dodged and moved closer before beginning to fire, damaging the eyes with large blasts from their shotguns. The monster shrieked in pain and suddenly it flailed out with one of its legs, knocking Dave into the wall in the process. Dave shook his head, recovering from the daze and he quickly got back to his feet and, using both shotguns he fired several times. Kyle and Angela added their shots until finally the eyes on the secondary pair of legs were destroyed. The monster went wild and began randomly attacking, forcing the agents to duck and move to one of the side doors and take cover through one of the side doors. They knew there was only one eye left, the one in its mouth, Dave then commented.
"Okay, we've come this far, now how are we gonna get the last eye?" Dave asked.
Kyle thought for a moment and then realised that, at the end of the small corridor, there was a set of stairs, leading up.
"Of course, guys, the stairs, we've gotta go up," Kyle realized, "There's gotta be a balcony for the throne room, we can attack from there."
"Okay, it's worth a shot," Angela replied.
"Let's go."
They holstered the shotguns and pulled out their handguns before heading to the stairs. As they reached the next floor they found the last remaining Ganados waiting for them, they quickly opened fire, killing them all, completely eliminating the threat with the exception of Verga. They hurried on and soon they reached the top floor, they exited the corridor and onto the balcony.
They were now level with the head of the monster, it saw them and roared before slamming its fist into the side of the balcony, causing it to shake and knock the trio off balance briefly. Kyle sighed.
"Great, now what, we can't get close enough to use shotguns and there's no way we're gonna be able to hit that eye from here with our handguns," He stated, worried.
Dave sighed and tried to think of a way to kill the monster. Angela however had already formed a plan, she knew it was risky but it was probably the only chance. She spoke.
"Guys, I've got a plan, I need you to cover me," She explained, "Just fire at it until I reach it."
"Reach it?" Kyle asked and then realized, "Angie, no way. You're not…"
She shook her head.
"Kyle, please, it's our only chance" She explained, "And I'm the only one fast enough to reach it before it can attack."
Kyle relented, "…Fine, please, just be careful."
Kyle nodded to Dave and they both took position and began to fire at the monsters head. Angela drew her knife and, having prepared herself she began to run towards the edge of the balcony, towards Manuel. Distracted by the bullets hitting his face Manuel was unable to stop her as she reached the edge and jumped. She managed to grab onto his face, Kyle and Dave stopped firing, Manuel roared. That was a mistake as it meant he revealed the final eye that signified his strength. Without hesitating Angela drove her knife into the eye, destroying it, she then clambered up to the top of its head and delivered the final blow. A single ferocious stab into the top of its skull, destroying the brain too. Manuel groaned and staggered, Angela jumped from the head to the ledge after sheathing her knife, however she just missed the ledge. Lucky Kyle grabbed onto her arm and with Dave's helped she was pulled back up to safety. They stood up just in time to see the large monstrous body of Manuel Verga fall to the ground dead, as he did so the body shrunk back to normal size and the normal number of limbs, however it retained the rest of its monstrous features. After recovering from the battle and holstering their weapons Kyle immediately contacted HQ. Rachel and Amy quickly responded.
"Hey Kyle," Amy greeted.
"What's up guys?" Rachel asked.
Kyle smiled and responded.
"Well, Manuel Verga and the last of the Ganado are dead." He declared cheerfully, "We've got the sample, mission accomplished, we'll need a helicopter for extraction".
Rachel nodded, "Roger that, oh by the way, I don't know if you heard but, the sample you've got is sample A, apparently there is a sample B, but the boss just got it sent to him, by some woman…"
Kyle sighed, he realised where this was going.
He finished the sentence, "…Named Shaye Style."
"Yeah, guess you met her then." Rachel replied.
"Yeah, well, doesn't matter the mission was a success anyway," Kyle responded, "We'll head to the extraction point."
"Roger."
Kyle ended the transmission and, with Angela and Dave, began to leave the balcony and from there, the throne room. They managed to navigate the maze and soon they were running back to the extraction zone, they soon exited the castle and chapel. They stopped for a moment in the villages 'Rich District'. Kyle then smiled and kissed Angela' forehead before speaking to her.
"How many times do I have to tell you to stop scaring me like that?" He asked.
"Kyle, I'm…" She began.
Kyle smiled and quickly silenced her with another kiss before continuing.
"I know you're capable of fighting and don't need to be protected anymore," He said, "But I can't help worrying about you. Remember, you are my life, I can't stand the thought of losing you."
Angela smiled, "I know, thanks Kyle."
They smiled and, reuniting with Dave, who had walked on to give them privacy. Finally they made it to the village outskirts where the helicopter was waiting for them, they climbed on board and soon they were returning home, breathing a sigh of relief now that another outbreak had been stopped.
