Hello faithful readers of mine:) I am terribly sorry for the delay on this chapter, but I intended to have a fill-in chapter in between this one and the last, and it didn't seem right, so here it is: Chapter 14. Enjoy

So Cold Chapter 14

How to break a frozen heart

I take a left by the tree that looks like an arrow pointing straight into the air and head to town. I'm looking for friends. I've been going into town and looking for friends for a few days now, but I have absolutely no luck. It's like I'm invisible!

Mr. Wind has been awfully quiet these last few days. I mean, he never talks, but he's not very silent. He has his own way of talking and I have come to understand him in on a certain level. But now, he just sits there and averts his eyes, sipping his tea and reading the paper. I fear he's going o leave soon. Just go and never come back

He hired an instructor to teach me how to drive a car and to fly a plane - a small one at least, and bought quite many books on how to live on your own and make use of things around you.

Yep, he's definitely going to leave.

My town-trip hasn't been successful, so I decide to pay Jackson Overland a visit.
I'm in the cemetery and on my way to his grave when I see a girl. She's standing over his grave, about fourteen, wearing a plain brown dress. Her hair is dark auburn and I can't help but notice that she's crying. I don't want to disturb her so I sit on the bench a few feet back and decide to wait until she's done.

"Oh Jack, remember when we went to that pond to skate, and I almost fell in, and you saved me? Of course you do, that's the day before you... well I brought you these, it's your skates. Look they still look good."
She places the skates by his tombstone and wipes her tears away.

"I just wish I could know what happened to you.."

And that's all she says, before she stands up and walks away.

I wake up in the meadow behind my house. I must have wandered off and fallen asleep here after I visited the graveyard. My back aches from the position so I walk to the house to clean off, but when I open the door, I hear someone talking. I don't know the voice, it sounds old and gruff, but soft, and I peak through the doorway into the living room to see who it is.

But it's Mr. Wind.
Talking.
He can talk?

"I can't do this anymore, it's getting out of hand." He whispers into his phone,
"This boy is smart. We can't just murder everyone that gets in our way. If we keep killing everyone he meets, he'll start to notice... I don't care if it messes up the operation, that boy is broken as it is... what?NO! I won't let you do that! you can't!"

A million questions pop up into my mind. Operation? What operation? Broken? Is he talking about me?

I want to ask him all of these questions, but I can't speak. I want to burst into the living room and scream, but I can't move. Not even when heðs heading for the door I'm standing behind. He opens it and his eyes widen, and I'm just standing there, jaws pressed together and fists balled.

"What operation?" I hiss through gritted teeth. He's fumbled but doesn't say anything.
"What operation?" I almost scream at him, but no answer.
He's gone silent again.

"Who were you talking to?" The questions just flow from my mouth like a river on a rainy day.
"Why were you talking about murder? What's happening?"

He looks into my eyes, begging me to stop

And then it hits me like a lightning. I take a few steps back, and this is where I really start crying, even though the tears have been flowing this whole time.

"Did you kill that science lady?"

He looks down but it's not enough for me.

"Tell me! I know you can talk! Did you kill her? Tell me"

I'm hitting him now, but he doesn't seem to hurt, he only closes his palms around my wrists and makes me sit down on the sofa.

I put my face into my hands.

"Get out." Is the only thing I can say.

"Get out, get out GETOUTGETOUT!"

And he does.

I look up as the door slams shut and see on the living room table in front of me that he's left the keys behind. The keys to the car, the keys to the plane, the keys to the house.

So he has left.

And this is it! Next time, we'll get to see a few more characters, I promise! but thanks for reading:)
