Chapter 22:
The sound of birds chirping grace my ears when I wake. The bedroom is slightly cooler than room temperature but still comfortable. Sitting up I see where the breeze is coming from. The glass sliding doors that open to the balcony was ajar. I could see a figure standing outside and my instinct told me it was Patch.
Swinging my legs over I get out of bed and make my way to him. He turns around somehow sensing that I was there and I pout. It's annoying how in sync we are sometimes. He chuckles and pulls me into his embrace.
"You know it's not okay to spy on people," he says knowingly.
"What are you doing out here?" I mumble into his chest avoiding the statement he just made.
"I was just umm... Watching the sunrise." I pull away and make my way back into the bedroom. But I don't question him further even though I know he's lying to me.
It only takes me a few minutes to get ready for school. I throw on a loose graphic tank top and white capris and converses since its nearing summer time. When I finish my once-over in the mirror I turn to patch who's been watching me the whole morning without saying a word.
"Will you drive me to school?" I ask while tying the laces to my sneakers. He sighs sensing my mood but nods solemnly and moves to get dressed.
I grab my phone off of the bedside table and make my way into the garage to wait in the car for him. Speed dialing Vee's number I try to reach her again. And again. One last time but there isn't a answer. Now I'm starting to worry. It's not like her not to answer. Soon Patch comes down and starts the engine. The drive was silent and patch pulled into the student parking lot but didn't turn the car off and I didn't make any moves to get out.
"Why are you being so cold towards me?" Patch asks and it honestly takes me off gaurd. I turn in the seat to look at him. He stares back impassively.
"Your so frustrating," I say finally.
"What were you really doing earlier?" Shock registers on his face and he laughs incredulously.
"Is that what this is about?" He says his voice almost teasing. But I refuse to let him make me smile.
"Oh Angel, you are one stubborn girl." He says and places a kiss on my cheek. I don't return the affection and wait for him to confess. Just as he opens his mouth to say something a bang on the backseat window grabs both of our attention.
