Sorry this chapter took forever. I enjoy writing but I get distracted by other fanfics. I love to read! Also I recently gave my chapters titles, mostly to help me remember what happened in those specific chapters. The title for chapter six, Bet That One Flunked Field Med, is by far my favorite title. Any Dark Angel fans should know that line but basically it was a line by Alec, Jensen's character in that show. Love me some Alec. Anywho, hope you enjoy this chapter and please let me know how you feel about the story thus far with a review or even PM. Also let me know of any bad grammar you find!
Yes, he knew he was staring but it couldn't be helped. He had seen her die. Looking through the back window of the Impala Sam had seen Crowley jam the angel blade into her torso, see the lighting erupt underneath her skin. She had fallen at his feet, unmoving as Dean pressed on the gas, the scene disappearing from view.
Sam had thought about Meg the most in the days after her supposed death. Upset that he hadn't been able to save her from Crowley, especially after her confession. It still threw him for a loop when he thought about that.
"You done Sam?"
Coming back from his thoughts Sam found himself in the small living room of Meg's hideout, having been staring blankly at her. He still couldn't help study her. Barefooted, Meg had her legs folded under her as she sat in the middle of her couch, wrapped in a red shirt and black jean shorts. Her deep brown hair was in loose waves around her shoulders and in her hands a glass of water. Dark eyes stared back at him in challenge. That was a look he remembered.
"Meg, seriously how are you alive?" It was driving him crazy not knowing. He wondered what Dean's reaction would be. Or Cas'.
"It's kinda complicated yet simple Moose. I'm human now."
Sam's eyebrows furrowed. "Wait, I don't understand. What about the soul of the girl you were possessing. What happened to her?"
Meg took a drink of water, her eyes trained on Sam before she answered. "She's dead. The year Crowley had us was too much for her. She gave up a few days into the torture. Me, on the other hand, have dealt with much worst so I was able to hang on."
"But how did that turn you human? I saw you die, the whole light show."
Meg narrowed her eyes at Sam before sending a quick look at Theo who stood outside on the deck, engaged in a staring match with Meg's dog. If he didn't know any better he swore Meg's ears were a bit red.
"I did die. But right when Crowley left, Ruth and Ezal showed up, resurrected me and poof, human."
Sam was quiet, his eyebrow raised. It would make sense for Ruth to know about the tablets but why would they help Meg if she was a demon. Maybe because of Abby and Jack? Hmm. "So they brought you back and turned you into a human?"
Again, Sam saw Meg look over at Theo before turning her attention to the tall Winchester. "Yes and no. I was already becoming human when you found me in the hotel bathroom. When I was stabbed, the demon part died but the parts that had turned human remained a bit longer. Enough to get brought back all human."
Sam took a step forward, eyes wide. "You were…curing yourself?" How the hell had Meg managed that?
"I didn't know I was curing myself at the time. Until I came back did I figure it out. Or at least I think I figured it out."
Sam kept his eyes on her, waiting. Again Meg looked over at Theo, and Sam was surprised to see her look a little shy and embarrassed.
"I think I was turning human because…" Meg paused, muttering something under her breath.
"Because…." Sam prompted, wanting her to say the end of her sentence louder. Meg gave him a glare.
"Because of the unicorn," she finally muttered.
Well that was unexpected. "Unicorn?"
Meg gave him a look of exasperation, growling under her breath. "My unicorn."
Her unic… Oh. Sam looked at Meg closely, seeing the slight red blush along her neck and cheeks, finding amusement in her human reaction. Definitely a departure from the Meg he was use to.
"Your…unicorn was turning you human?"
The blush didn't disappear, if anything it intensified, causing a smirk to curl at his lips. Meg crossed her arms, not liking the slight teasing tone Sam had added to his question.
"That's my best guess. Ruth agrees with me. I was…feeling things that, as a demon, I shouldn't have. Like that stupid movie with the zombie and blonde chick."
Sam had to pause. It made a bit of sense. When Sam had been trying to cure Crowley, he'd forced the King of Hell to open up, to feel like a human. He'd seen the change in Crowley as the hours went by. But that was by force, unlike Meg's transformation.
"So because of your…unicorn, you became human?"
"Yes, would you stop with the interrogation? It's bad enough Abby knows about the unicorn thing, now I have to deal with you." Meg growled, taking another sip from her glass. The brunette's irritation was familiar to Sam, a throw back to her more aggressive days. But the mention of Abby made the smile disappear from his face. Meg seemed to notice.
"Sam?" She stood slowly, abandoning her glass on the coffee table. She studied him, looking over as Theo, who had heard the turn of conversation, entered her small home. Sam knew his face matched Theo's own grim look. Her eyes narrowed into slits when focusing back on Sam. "You didn't come for a social visit, did you?"
"No."
Meg rolled her eyes. "Why doesn't that surprise me. What have you dummies done this time?"
Sam glanced at Theo, licking his lips before continuing. "We think that Abaddon might be trying to use a spell on Jack and Abby. A binding spell for a Cambion."
"Or a being of equal power," added Theo.
Sam tossed him a look, not sure why he would throw that in. They only needed a spell for binding a Cambion. But nonetheless, he was curious if Meg knew about Abby and Jack. Looking at her though, her calm expression, she knew.
"Theo's right." Meg stared at the tall angel before looking back at Sam. "For something like this, the spell won't be marked or found under anything related to Cambion. Or what have you. You have to find it by reading between the lines. Looking up the characteristics of the creature you want to bind. Considering who she wants to use it on, this is a rare spell. But fortunately for you, as Azazel's once daughter, I was exposed to a whole assortment of spells back in the day. I should be able to find you the goods. So, what does Ruth have to say about this? She must have her wings in a bunch, keeping Abby and Jack on lock down somewhere, right?"
Sam felt dread coil in his stomach as he looked over at Theo, their eyes locking. This was not good. He heard her get up, watching as she crossed the room to place her glass in the kitchen sink. She hadn't seen the exchange.
"Meg."
The brunette glanced at them, freezing when seeing their faces. Sam was sure his lips were tight in a grim expression.
Meg's eyebrows furrowed, her lips turning down in a frown. "Sam."
Theo spoke then, voice low with the gravity of what he would say next. "Jack's been taken. By Abaddon. Abby is out looking for him."
Meg's body straighten up, her eyes locking on the two of them. Her hands curled into fists, shaking slightly. "When did this happen?"
Sam was a little uneasy hearing the dark undertone of Meg's voice. But, with a nod from Theo, Sam gave her an answer. "Jack was grabbed late last night. Abby took off about four hours ago to find him."
"Son of a bitch!"
The loud curse surprised Sam as he watched Meg smack her hands on the kitchen counter. Dark eyes was narrowed into angry slits as Meg pierced both men with a glare.
"I can't believe you didn't come get me earlier, Theo! This is not good. We need to leave. Now."
"Why? What's wrong?"
"This spell takes time but Abaddon isn't stupid. She'd know that any spare time would be used in trying to get ahead of her, before the spell was complete. She's too smart for that. She already has the spell, she's had it ready for a really long time. Right now she's just waiting on the final ingredient."
Sam looked over at Theo. "Abby. She wants Abby to find her."
Meg gave a sharp nod. "Yep, dummy. She's trying to finished what she started all those years ago."
Sam jolted when hearing those words. His mind started racing. It didn't make much sense. Abaddon, along with their grandfather Henry Winchester, disappeared in 1958. She didn't show back up until just recently. Unless Abaddon had her demons keep an eye out for Abby. Sam ran his hands threw his hair. The attack on Abby when she was five was on purpose. They had found her and tried to capture her.
Sam locked eyes with Theo, giving him a very firm nod. The tall angel stepped forward, hands reaching out to grab Sam and Meg's shoulder but the small woman danced away from him.
"Sorry cloudhopper, your juice won't work here. This place has heavy duty warding against everything. We have to leave first."
Meg dismissed the men, giving a sharp whistle that summoned the small dog from outside to her feet. Taking the animal into her arms, she turned on her heel and headed toward the main door, not before grabbing the discarded angel blade on the coffee table. The two men glanced at each other for a second then hurried after her.
Meg waited until they had both cleared the threshold before slamming the door shut. Taking a jackknife from her back pocket Meg made a small cut in the center of her palm and slammed the hand flat against a plank of wood just on the outside of the door.
Sam watched as a sigil hidden in the wood activated, pulsing red as more intricate patterns were revealed, sketched into the walls of the cottage.
"Let's go ladies."
The men followed after Meg as she marched down the small path, Sam looking back only to see that the cottage had vanished. He turned to mention it but halted before he could slam into Theo, who had paused.
"This is far enough, time to put your money where your mouth is, cloudhopper."
Theo reached out and they disappeared.

Dean tilted the lore book down slightly, enough to glare over at the beeping laptop sitting opposite of him on the table. It had been nearly twenty minutes since Theo and Sam had left, leaving Dean to baby-sit the angels. Kevin had the bright idea of sending a few out to collect ingredients for demon bombs but with all of them on the injury list there wasn't a way for them to teleport to all the different hunter shops that would have said ingredients.
That was when Mamoru had the idea. The angels' wounds had sealed up and healed but it had taken a large amount of grace to do that. At that point Mamoru had spoken up, saying that having the vessels in charge would help the angels replenish their grace faster. It was valid and all the angels had agreed, though Muriel was a bit concerned.
So nearly ten minutes ago Dean had met Muriel's alter ego Maggie, the two Chinook twins David and Sara, and the lively pixie-like Lacy. Mamoru had explained that Ruth's angels didn't just take anyone. Humans had their own lives to live, it wasn't the angels' place to take that away. So Ruth didn't allow her angels to just commandeer any human. Which was why six other angels had no vessels. The vessels accounted for had been down on their luck, rock bottom, and being asked to house an angel seemed like a chance to turn things around.
Lacy, as Dean had discovered, was quite open with her thoughts and had told Dean and Kevin point blank that she had been a drug addict and nearly overdosed when Ezal happened to come upon her. He'd healed her of the drugs in her system and told her what he was. That's when she'd had the idea of giving herself to Ruth. They had tried to persuade her to stay human but she was relentless and managed to break through Ruth's defenses. Now she was quite content with sharing her body with Tabitha.
David and Sara were the only ones that didn't share their story and Dean could respect that, he never liked to tell his.
A beep sounded again and Dean slapped his book shut, glaring at Sam's laptop sitting across from him.
"Why don't you just look?"
The eldest Winchester looked over at Kevin, the prophet's attention on the book in front of him. Dean would rather have Kevin looking at the tablet but Sam would hear none of it. The younger Winchester had suggested Kevin translate the whole tablet into the quickest language he could so he could study that and not the actual stone. Then he had Kevin lock up the tablet and hide it, warded against any and every supernatural creature known to man. When asked why, Sam had only said it would put a damper on Metatron's plans.
So Kevin was now staring at a demonology textbook, trying to track down the Cambion spell. Well, he didn't know it was a Cambion spell. Dean hadn't told him yet, for fear of what the other angels would do. If the other angels did find out, he would rather have his brother and the few angels who could stop the fight at the bunker in case things went sideways.
Sam's laptop dinged again and Dean almost threw it across the room. It had been going off roughly every three minutes after Sam had left, slowly driving Dean insane.
He heard Kevin sigh and looked over in time to see his friend abandon his book, walk around his table, and open Sam's laptop.
"Hey, that's Sam's."
Kevin looked up for a second before returning his eyes to the screen. "Yeah I know. It's been beeping like this ever since Sam left. I'm surprised you didn't look the first time it went off."
Dean paused at that comment, mostly because he had been very tempted to open the laptop and see what was causing the stupid beep. But again, he had been trying to be better about pestering Sam, which included not touching his laptop, a debate between the brothers that stretched back years.
"Dean, it says something about search complete and it's asking for a password."
Like lighting, Dean was up and already next to Kevin. "Don't touch anything. Sam's got this thing rigged up to completely crash if someone messes with it."
Dean hadn't given Sam the idea, it had been Charlie who brought it up one of the few times she had visited. Their laptops held a lot of information about themselves, the searches they did, the creatures they hunted, other hunters, it was all there. So Charlie had mentioned that having someone get their hands on it could do damage to both brothers, Kevin, Cas, and anyone else that had associated with the Winchesters. That gave Sam enough reason to stage the laptop to completely delete and fry itself if someone tried to hack into it. Only Dean and Charlie knew how to get into it. Dean decided that Kevin should know how to get into Sam's laptop as well.
Kevin made way for Dean as he sat in front of the machine, fingers clicking away. Six passwords and three riddles later Sam's laptop unlocked, a small dialogue box flashing in the left bottom corner.
Double clicking, more windows popped up, all dealing with Nebraska and Colorado. Eyes scanning the screen, Dean's hands grabbed at his cell phone, sparing a fleeting glance to make sure he hit the right speed dial.
"Dean, we got problems."
"Yeah, I know, they're suicidal."
"What are you talking about?"
"Abby and Cas." Dean gripped the phone close to his ear, eyes reading the screen. "They got on a plane from Nebraska heading to Colorado an hour ago."
"An hour ago? You sure it was both of them?"
"Well, considering she bought a ticket for herself and a Eddie Moscone, it's safe to say that they took the flight together."
"This is really bad Dean, it doesn't take that long to get to Denver from Nebraska."
"Would you say about an hour?"
"Maybe an hour and a half."
Dean's eyebrows furrowed as another alert popped up. He quickly read it, his face becoming grim. "Well, apparently it was clear skies today. I just got an alert from Abby's credit card. She withdrew hundred and fifty a few seconds ago from a ATM in Denver."
"Crap."
"Yeah that's what I said. When you getting back?" Dean began clicking away on the keyboard, trying to get into Abby's bank account to stop her from getting any more money. No money meant she was stuck.
"I'm right down the road from the bunker. Listen Dean, Abaddon already has the spell set up, she just needs Abby to get to her. We gotta move fast."
Another window popped up, telling Dean that two hundred dollars had just been withdrawn, this time from a different ATM, still in Denver.
"Yeah, I'm trying. Abby got more money from another ATM. I'm trying to hack into her account and freeze it."
"Dean stop!"
Sam's frantic yell had Dean stilling, Kevin looking up from his book again. The eldest Winchester gave the younger man a questioning look. "Why? If we can keep her from getting any more money, she'd be stuck in Colorado or at the most keep her from making it all the way to Mexico."
"She's smart Dean, really smart. Not just books either. If she anticipated us trying to stop her, then she's got plans in place."
Dean paused. He just needed a few more keystrokes before the hacking code was complete. A code designed by their tech genius friend. "Abby can't be as smart as Charlie, can she?"
"I don't know. Maybe. Maybe not."
"Well, it's a fifty-fifty chance. I'll take those odds." Ignoring Sam's words, Dean completed the sequence, pressed enter and watched the computer get to work. A smile stretched across his face. "I'm in. I'll just freeze her card and-"
A large window popped up, showing a small cartoon pet carrier in one corner of the screen. Barking blared from the laptop's speakers and the carrier opened, revealing a small black and white cartoon dog jumping out.
By now Kevin stood at Dean's shoulder, watching the small dog sniff around the screen, stop, look towards Dean and Kevin with a large smile before it began digging downward.
"What's going on? I hear a dog."
"Uh," Dean spoke, watching as the dog dug deeper, half its body in the hole. "Not sure yet. A window popped up with a black and white dog in it."
"Black and white dog? Dean, did it have a short tail and black just around it's eyes?"
Before Dean could answer the dog disappeared completely and it wasn't long before bits of cartoon circuit board were being thrown out of the hole. Dean had a really bad feeling about this.
"Yeah, Sam. Exactly like that." With dread, Dean watched as the dog jumped back out of the hole, but not empty-handed. Tail wagging happily the little canine held up a large cartoon computer chip in its jaws.
"Sam, I think it's safe to say that Abby is way smarter than Charlie." Kevin spoke loud enough to be heard over the phone as the two men watched the computer screen flicker into blackness.
~~~SPN~~~
A smirk was plastered on Abby's face as she watched Dean and Kevin flutter about in front of the laptop. She had gotten an alert that someone had ran a search on her name and credit card. So she had tracked down the computer and hacked the webcam. Lo and behold it was Dean and Kevin that appeared on her cell phone screen. She got more alerts, saying that someone was attempting to break into her bank account. Seeing the code that Dean typed out, Abby was impressed but not fearful.
It took less than seven taps on her phone's keyboard before Dean walked into her trap. Considering it was Sam and Dean's computer, she managed to tweak the virus so it wouldn't completely destroy their laptop's hard drive as Abby had originally designed it to do but they wouldn't be able to use the computer for a few days unless she removed the virus.
Hearing the whirling of a machine, Abby looked up as the ATM gave up two hundred and fifty dollars. Six hundred in total would be enough for their plane tickets and anything else they would need once they got to El Paso. Granted, now that they couldn't use their laptop to track her movements she could just use her card again to buy the plane tickets but Abby felt it was better to be safe than sorry. Thank God the Denver airport had so many ATMs.
"Do we have enough money?"
Abby glanced over her shoulder to see Castiel standing behind her, face open and curious. Taking the paper currency and her card back Abby tucked it, and her cell phone, away in her pockets.
"Yeah, we're good but there's something I gotta do." Abby dug around in her jacket's inner pocket, pulling out four pixie sticks. She could feel Castiel's eyes on her as she ripped all four open and threw her head back, emptying the colorful granulates onto her tongue.
"Abby?"
The brunette crumbled the wrappers, stuffing them back into their original place and pulling out four more to replace the eaten ones. "Let me see your ID."
Abby ate the other straws as she waited, stuffing the wrappers in her coat. Castiel seemed a little confused about her request and behavior but he didn't say anything when giving her his badge.
Looking around the large airport, Abby managed to spy a table with a couple chairs a few yards away that would do the job, just in case. Maneuvering through the other travelers Abby folded herself into one of the chairs.
Feeling Castiel at her side, Abby ignored him as she sandwiched his ID card between her hands, her eyes closing. The tingling, unfamiliar sensation simmered through her body and by will Abby funneled the energy into her arms and down into her hands.
She heard Castiel shuffle next to her but fortunately he remained silent as she worked. Good, last thing Abby needed was to lose her concentration by yelling at him to be quiet. The plastic in her hands grew hot but it refused to melt and Abby knew it was working. She gave one more burst of power and Castiel's new identification card was complete. Just in time too.
The card fell from Abby's hands as she slumped forward, catching herself on the table. At once she could feel the blood leave her face, her body heavy and sweat popping along her forehead and neck.
"Abby?"
She could hear the concern in Castiel's voice as she gave a groan, light-headed and pinching her eyes tight from the lights in the airport. Yep, the chair and table were a great idea.
"Abby? Are you alright?"
The Halfling kept her head tucked in the crook of her arm, the other sluggishly digging around in her outer coat pocket and pulling out a twenty dollar bill to wave in the former angel's direction. She ignored the way her hand shook. "Can you go get me some candy?"
It was quiet and the paper currency was still in her hand, which was opposite of what Abby wanted and needed. She waved the money in frustration, grumbling at her traveling partner. "Candy Castiel! Candy!"
"I don't think you need sugary foods Abby."
She lifted her head to glare at him, but the burning pain from the too bright lights caused her to growl and dig her head back into the darkness of her arm. "I need the sugar. Using all this energy is making me weak. Just think of me as someone with really low blood sugar. So can you go get me some candy and maybe some orange juice? Oh, better yet, a Mountain Dew if they got any."
This time she felt the bill disappear from her grasp and she sensed Castiel wander off to find her requested items. Now by herself Abby let herself sag completely. She hadn't been lying when she'd told him she was weak, she just didn't say how weak. If Abaddon showed up, she might as well strap a bow on her head with how much she'd be able to fight back. Of course she still had her ace but that was for the finale and she definitely didn't want to be in a crowd of innocent bystanders when that happened.
With one more plane ride coming up, she knew she'd have to pack more sweets and other snacks to keep herself from fainting. The chips and pretzels on the previous plane had not been enough. Sleep helped but sugar always gave her an extra boost. But this whole trip was draining her faster than she had thought. Hell, the pixie sticks she'd just devoured hadn't been enough to keep her from getting weak when she morphed Castiel's card.
If that wasn't enough, she still had another TSA checkpoint to go through. Abby sighed. Man, she was tired. It was one thing to trick a person, mess with their perception so they would see what she wanted them to see but she had had to really dig deep so she could mess with the scanner.
Machines and electronics were different than humans and thus much more harder to sabotage when they and their carry-on were scanned. Abby wasn't sure how the next security check would go, all she was really hoping for was to not faint. That'd be interesting.
Feeling Castiel getting closer she perked up a bit, trying to seem just a little tired and not the comatose tired she really was. Another risk with Castiel was that he was close to the Winchesters. If she looked bad health wise, he'd be on the phone with them within seconds. Granted she could take him out but she'd rather not.
"Here Abby."
She heard something thud against the table and she lifted her head high enough to see the bottle of orange juice along with three Snickers bars and two bags of pixie sticks. She scowled at the collection until she caught sight of the can of Mountain Dew behind the orange juice. A smile tugged at her lips.
"Excellent." Abby tore into one of the chocolate bars and cracked open the Mountain Dew first, she'd save the orange juice for the flight. "Thank you Castiel."
She continued to munch, watching her companion grab the forgotten ID card. He read it for a few seconds, head tilting.
"James Falk?" Blue eyes looked up at her, curious about her choice.
"Yeah, James after your vessel. I wanted to put Peter Falk but figured the reference would be too obvious so I just kept the last name."
"Who is Peter Falk?"
Abby paused mid-drink, eyeing the man before her. "Peter Falk." Still she got no response. "You know, Columbo?" Castiel remained quiet.
She huffed. "What am I gonna do with you? Never mind then. Come on, we got another plane to catch."
After taking a second to orient herself, Abby packed up her goods and, with Castiel trailing her, made their way to the ticket counter for the next leg of their mission.
~~~SPN~~~
Pushing past Kevin Sam made his way down the stairs into the library where Dean and the angels were gathered. Except most of the angels greeted Sam quite human like, Tab especially waved and smiled brightly at him.
Confused Sam murmured to Kevin, "Why are they acting like that?"
Kevin smirked, "The angels let the vessels out to play while they healed up. Nothing to worry about."
Sam nodded subtlety, waving back at the humans before turning his attention to his brother and the dead laptop.
"What happened?"
Dean looked up at him then back at the laptop. "I typed in the hacking code, planning on getting into Abby's bank account. It worked for a few seconds and then another window showed up. This one was a cartoon of a dog digging a hole into the computer. It came back up with a computer chip in its mouth and then bam! Screen went black and I can't get it to turn on, not even with Charlie's magic stick."
Charlie had given them a USB drive that had software capable of by-passing viruses, wormholes, and locks to turn a computer on and get past security systems. That same drive was fit into one of the computer's ports but it had no effect on the laptop. Whatever Abby had done was far more advanced than even Charlie's abilities.
Taking his phone out, Sam found the picture he was looking for and flashed the cell phone at his brother and Kevin. "This the dog?"
Dean glanced at the phone, looked over at Kevin before looking up at him. "Yeah, that's the bastard."
Sam guessed as much. He could definitely see Abby creating a virus this way. Her humor was written all over this. He'd taken a picture of Meg's dog right before he had made his way back to the bunker, to show Dean. "It's TJ."
Confusion quirked at Kevin's eyebrows. "Whose TJ?"
Knowing there was more important things to discuss, Sam nudged at his brother and their friend, tilting his head toward one of the hallways. Silently they left the other humans and slipped into one of the storage rooms.
As soon as the door was closed, Sam took out his silver knife and sliced across his palm. Muttering in the Enochian that Theo had taught him Sam placed his hand on the door, seeing the angelic symbols flare out from the wood where his hand touched and spread around the room.
Reaching for the bandana in his back pocket to act as a bandage he turned back to see Dean and Kevin watching him. "It's a modified version of the angel-proof spell Theo told us about. He taught it to me right before I came back."
"So what happened with the demon expert? They know anything?"
Sam looked at Kevin when he asked but his eyes slid to Dean. "Meg's alive."
Kevin perked up, eyes squinted, no doubt trying to figure out where he'd heard the name from, but the taller Winchester was interested in Dean's reaction.
"Meg? As in Meg the demon that was killed by Crowley? That Meg?"
"Yeah. She was the demon expert Theo was talking about. Expect she's not dead." Sam paused, ready to drop another bomb on his brother. "And she's not a demon anymore."
Dean's eyes grew wide and he stepped closer to Sam. "What?"
"She's not a demon Dean. She's human now. Meg was cured."
Dean was quiet, no doubt trying to wrap his head around what he had just heard, like Sam had but it was interrupted by Kevin.
"That's the demon from the mental hospital right?"
Sam nodded at Kevin, wanting to keep going with the main reason he called them out of the library but Kevin asked another question that Dean would be interested in.
"How though? The only known cure is here in the bunker. How did someone cure her?"
Dean's eyes light up but Sam didn't want to reveal how Meg was cured. That was all kinds of awkward. "That's not the point."
"It kind of is. Someone knew about the demon cure, someone not us. That's a problem. We gotta talk to Meg."
"No! Listen to me." Sam shouted, his adrenaline rising. For all he knew that had just a couple of hours if Abby and Cas decided to take a flight down to Juarez. "We don't have time for that."
"But Sam…"
"No Kevin. Listen for a second. Meg told me about the spell Abaddon might use." That got their attention. "Abaddon only needs one thing. Abby."
Dean's hands went up and wrung themselves through his hair. Kevin's eyes were wide. "What about the spell? Theo said it would take a while to get all the ingredients together."
Sam began to pace. He would need to reveal what happened to Abby when she was a toddler but he felt really uncomfortable telling it. He didn't like anyone to know what happened to their family but telling Dean and Kevin could help. Sorry Abby.
"Did Abby ever tell you about her family, from when she was younger?" Dean and Kevin glanced at each other before shaking their heads. Sam kept pacing, this time palming his eyes to fight back the guilt he was feeling. "When Abby was five years old, demons attacked her house. They killed her mom. Meg says that Abaddon might have had orders for her demons to be on the look out for Abby. Chances are that when they found Abby, they were to grab her and take her to Abaddon. Somehow that didn't happen but she's had that spell ready for a long time."
Dean was pacing now as well, tension radiating from him. Kevin was the one to keep asking questions. "How'd she get away? She was five."
"I don't know, I'm guessing that at such a early age her powers became unbalanced because of her emotions and she took out the demons but there's also a possibility that her dad was a hunter who came back home and took care of the demons. I don't know for sure, Abby was really upset when she told me and she didn't go into details."
Before Dean or Kevin could react a woman's voice rang loudly from within the bunker. Sam's immediate reaction was to go and find out what was going on but seeing Kevin shaking his head and Dean rolling his eyes in annoyance made him think he'd missed something while he was away.
His brother walked over to the door and cracked it open a few inches. "Knock it off Lacy!"
A voice yelled back from the library. "Sorry Dean! I'm nervous, I can't help it!"
Slamming the door closed Dean began banging his head against the wood, avoiding Sam's smear of blood.
Sam paused, trying to process what just happened when the words he had heard being sung caught up with him. "Was she singing Celine Dion?"
Looking over at Kevin for clarification the younger man nodded. "Lacy, Tab's vessel, was a Broadway performer and Titanic is one of her favorite movies. She's sung the theme song four times already. Says she sings when she nervous."
"Now I understand why Balthazar would un-sink that boat just to get rid of that stupid song." Dean muttered as he started pacing again. "So we got nothing?"
"Not necessarily. Theo and Meg are grabbing a few ingredients to do a tracking spell. If we can find Abby, we can stop her before she gets to Juarez."
All three turned at the sound of thunderous knocking from the library. As one they raced out of the room, down the hallway and into the main area. The human vessels were standing, angel blades gripped tightly, all of them serious and staring intensely at the metal door stationed at the top of the stairs. By everyone's expressions, the angels were back, ready for the possible threat.
Taking the stairs three at a time, both Winchesters reached the top, throwing the door open to reveal Meg and Theo, a duffel over his shoulder.
"Holy shit."
Sam had to smile at Dean's whispered words. Meg heard too and gave a familiar smirk as she pushed past them, Theo right behind her. "Nice to see you too Deano."
Sam saw Dean glance at him before sealing the bunker and following the two arrivals into the library.
Theo had the duffel opened on one of the tables, pulling out various zip lock baggies filled with what looked like random materials but Sam knew this would let them know where Abby was.
"Isn't this the tracing spell Cas used once?" Dean asked as Theo, using a piece of chalk, started to draw on the surface of the table.
"Somewhat. Just a few things tweaked for our purpose," came Meg's voice, giving Theo a large silver bowl. "Alright Dean, take the shirt off."
His brother's head snapped in her direction. "Excuse me?"
Sam had to keep from laughing at Dean's expression. He decided to save his brother. "How is this spell different from Cas'?"
Meg eyed Dean for a second before turning to Sam. "Considering that Clarence is traveling with Abby, we're gonna find her by tracking him down."
"By using the grace still embedded in the handprint on Dean's shoulder to track down the human body that Castiel used as a vessel."
The small group turned to see the other angels lead by Mamoru. It looked like Mamoru, except for the stern gaze and straight back of a soldier.
"Ezal?"
The angelic medic came forward, nodding at Dean before studying the drawing Theo had finished. "Theo is preparing a slightly different spell. It works by using an angel's grace to track down the human bodies that have been used as a vessel for that angel. Thus we'll track down Castiel and Abby by locating James Novak's body."
"But Cas has that tattoo and they both have hex bags. Will the spell work?"
Sam looked over at Kevin, having forgotten about the hex bags and Cas' tattoo. He turned to look at Theo and Ezal for an explanation.
"Well, most tracking has to do with the human soul. What we're doing is tracking down the physical bodies that Castiel's grace has encountered."
"What about using my mark?" asked Sam, hand rubbing at his shirt. He still had Abby's handprint on his chest from when she knocked Gadreel out. Ruth had somehow embedded her grace in the handprint, sending Sam into the future and back to his own timeline. Maybe they could use Ruth's grace for the spell.
"Normally yeah, we'd use your mark but Theo figured it wouldn't work considering Abby's…background." Meg spoke, the last part of her sentence low and her eyes darting to the brothers.
Sam glanced over at his brother, their eyes meeting.
Dean sent him an arched eyebrow. Meg knows?
Sam gave a slight nod. Yeah.
But it made sense, with Abby being a Cambion the spell might not work. Having angel grace and demon blood could throw the spell off. Tracking down Cas would be the only sure way to find them.
"Makes sense. There'll be two bodies you find though." spoke Sam, gaining the attention of the room. "Cas used Jimmy's daughter as a vessel once."
Theo nodded as he began pouring the different ingredients into the large metal bowl that Meg gave him. "When I do the search, I'll be sure to ignore her and focus on Castiel." He then began mixing the items, reaching for the bottle of holy water Meg passed him.
"Come on Deano. Don't tell me you've gotten shy since the last time I saw you. Take the shirt off. I'll even give you some money to make you comfortable."
Sam could hear Meg pestering Dean for his shirt again, fighting laughter when Tab voiced Lacy's willingness to give money. He stayed focus on Theo's preparation, watching as the mix became thicker and dark red in color, turning into a paste-like consistency.
A rustling of cloth, paired with a teasing wolf-whistle from Kevin, and Dean was now settled into a chair on the right side of the table Theo was at, grumbling the entire time.
"I will numb Dean's shoulder so he doesn't experience the pain." Ezal reached out, touching his brother's shoulder before anyone could object.
"How bad would the pain be?" asked Sam, eyeing Theo as he placed his hands in the bowl, coating his skin with the dark red mixture. Dean was fidgeting, watching Theo warily as well.
"Very excruciating. Similar to when Castiel discovered that you had no soul."
Sam's eyes snapped to Dean, finding his brother already staring back at him, eyes just as wide as his. They both remembered that incident. Sam repressed the shudder wanting to overtake his body at the memory.
"And he won't feel this because you numbed his arm?" Sam asked Ezal, wanting to be sure Dean wouldn't feel any pain. He still had Demon Dean's screams stuck in his head, he didn't want to add to the collection.
Ezal stood on Dean's other side, "Yes. He won't feel anything, but it's best to be cautious. Which is why I asked Mamoru to let me participate, so I can watch over Dean's vitals."
Theo turned to Dean, his hands covered in the mix, face serious. "Ready?"
Sam's adrenaline started pumping in anticipation of the Enochian spell. This was something similar to Cas' spell but it hadn't involved his brother in possible pain. Sam was very glad to have Ezal here.
Dean took a deep breath, his jaw set firmly. "Go."
Matching his large hand to Cas' mark, Theo began speaking Enochian, the words deep and slow as a bright glow started emanating from the burn. As he spoke Theo slowly started to lift his hand, Cas' grace seeming to leak out from the mark, a swirling mass of shimmering essence.
Seeing Dean frown, Sam edged closer in concern but stopped in his tracts as Dean spoke. "I'm fine Sam. Just…feels weird."
Letting his fears subside Sam watched as the grace began to glow bright the more Theo spoke. The last bit left Dean's body and the larger angel instantly cupped the balled-up energy in his hands, turning to the table that held the sigil.
Before Sam could ask Ezal already had a hand laid on Dean, cleaning and giving back sensation to his arm. With a nod of reassurance from his older brother, Sam along with the rest of the bunker's occupants, turned their attention to the scarred angel.
The luminescence intensified in strength as Theo spoke, his words getting louder and more forceful. Suddenly he stopped and cupping the grace into his hands as small as possible, he slammed the ball of energy onto the table, Cas' grace sinking and flowing into the drawn Enochian symbol. Sam watched Theo close his eyes, the sigil pulsating with power as it seemed to flow from the symbol into Theo's arm.
"I found the girl," spoke Theo, eyes roving underneath his lids. "As for Castiel…" Theo's eyebrows furrowed as he searched for their friend. "Wait, I think I might have found him. He's moving fast."
Sam looked over at Dean, both of them knowing what that meant. They were already on a plane to Mexico. Plan B would be to stake out the airport until they landed, catching Abby before she left the building. With the other angels near by, Sam was hoping she'd let them explain what was going on before she took them out. With that thought in mind Sam dug his phone out, seeing as his laptop was out of commission and unlocked it, intent on searching for which airline Abby would use to get from Denver to Juarez.
"Theo?" Muriel stepped forward, her voice concerned.
Sam looked up, seeing how Theo's eyes roved quicker as he searched and Sam started to have a bad feeling. "Theo?"
"I'm trying to get a better lock on Castiel but I'm not sure if it's the hex bags, the tattoo or Abby herself that's preventing me from getting an exact location. I'm gonna try to push a bit harder-!" Theo snarled in pain, the cords of muscle in his neck bulging, showing the effort of his locked jaw. His body was jerking slightly, as if being electrocuted, the skin twitching in his bare arms. But what could make an angel feel that much pain?
"Theo?"
"Theo!?"
Sam blinked and Muriel had materialized next to the larger man, small hands latched onto his forearm. The other angels gathered around their brother, offering silent support.
Ezal stood on the other side of Theo, gripping his shoulder and hissing in his ear. "Cut the connection Theo. Cut it. Now."
With a growl Theo's eyes snapped open and he wrenched his hand off the table. Immediately Tabitha stepped forward with a small glass jar, rattling off quick Enochian. Sam watched as Cas' grace swirled into the air and with a sharp final word from the tiny angel, the bright energy rushed into the clear container, Tabitha sealing it with a lid.
All attention turned to Theo who Muriel had maneuvered into one of the chairs. He was panting, one of his hands gripping his chest in pain, eyes squeezed shut.
"What the hell happened?"
Theo glanced up at Dean before turning his attention to the entire room. "It was Abby. She sensed me trying to find them. But when I tried to push for a location, I showed too much of myself in the spell and she was able to grab a hold of my grace. She made sure I backed off."
"So we got nothing?"
Kevin tried to placate the angry older Winchester. "Not really. We can still catch up to her when she lands in Mexico."
"I don't think so," spoke Sam, his eyes intent on his phone. He had found the website for the airport in Juarez but it was all for naught.
"Why?"
Sam looked up. "Because Juarez's airport doesn't support any American airlines."
"What?" Both Kevin and Dean spoke, converging on Sam.
Studying the website for the third time Sam spoke with confidence. "The airport doesn't accept any American airlines. It only takes airlines from other parts of Mexico. Considering what Theo just said, Abby and Cas could be on a plane heading to a part of Mexico, somewhere we don't know, or already on a plane from a different city heading to Juarez."
"Damn it!"
Sam watched as his brother moved away from the group, hand kneading his forehead. Sam couldn't blame him, he felt a migraine forming behind his eyes.
A familiar low humming started up from Tabitha and Dean spun around at the sound. "Not now Tabitha."
The small angel glared back. "Lacy is uneasy about this new development. The song soothes her."
"Balthazar should have just gotten rid of the song and be done with it," muttered Dean as he paced.
Sam could feel something pressing at him. Something important. It had happened maybe half an hour ago but this time he felt like it was right in front of his eyes-!
"Stop your whining Dean. It's not a shit storm yet. Just go to the airport and wait. If Abby's so keen on checking out her old house, she's gonna have to take a plane to Juarez at some point. Some of the angels can hang out at the airport while the others check out the city, see if you can find yourself a demon that'll squeal."
Sam vaguely heard Meg's firm voice in the background but his sole focus was on something else.
Eyes. It was all in the eyes. Bringing up a mental image of Jack, Sam studied the boy's features. The slight curve of his smirk, the two dimples that accompanied said smile, strands of dark blonde hair. And lastly, the most important feature, the icy blue eyes that stared back.
Within his own mind Sam aged Jack roughly twenty-five years older, taller, shaping his jaw, erasing the baby fat. His hair was shorter and Sam gave him a light peppering of facial hair, but his eyes remained the same. The real clincher was changing Jack's clothes. Sam inhaled sharply at the image. It was amazing to see, especially when comparing the two men in his head. Holy shit.
"Sam you okay?"
The taller Winchester flinched at the voice, returning to the present. Kevin and Dean were looking at him, both concerned but he knew that Dean knew better. His brother figured he'd found something important out. And he had. Something that changed everything.
Turning to the angels Sam spoke. "If we're gonna do this, we need to be ready. Kevin's got a recipe for demon bombs but we need some ingredients. If a few of you can go out and get the material, we can start making more. It'll help out in the long run."
After a count to see which angels were healed enough to fly, they branched off from the main group, Muriel being the only one that was unsure until Theo nodded at her.
Kevin and Meg were watching curiously as Dean opened his mouth to start asking but Sam cut him off, eyes bouncing between Ezal and Theo.
"Angel-proof bubble. Now."
Taking no offense to the curt order Ezal spoke a few words quickly and both angels nodded at Sam.
"What the hell's going on Sam? What did you figure out?"
Sam ran his hands through his hair. "The binding spell. Chances are it'll work on Abby but it might not on Jack."
Everyone was frowning in confusion with only Ezal watching calmly. Of course he knew. Taking his phone back out Sam tapped a few buttons until he found the picture he wanted. He handed the phone over to Dean.
His brother looked at the screen for a few seconds, eyebrow raised. "This is a picture of Jack."
"Look at it Dean. Really look at it."
His brother stared at the photo, studying it and that was when Sam gave him a nudge. "Picture Jack in his early thirties with a glass of whiskey in his hand."
Sam could see the realization slowly building on Dean's face. Just needed to drive the nail in the coffin. "Now give him a V-neck shirt."
Dean's eyes grew, almost dropping Sam's phone. "Holy shit."
What do you think of that twist? Can anyone guess what has Dean and Sam freaked? Take a guess and leave me a review! Also just watched Ten Inch Hero recently. Although some scenes were a bit much for me, over all I enjoyed it very much! Love me some Priestly. Anyway, I'll see you people next time. When exactly I'm not sure but there will be a next time. Until then…peace out! -Mez
