The door opened suddenly after they had been in the room for hours. They hadn't moved from the corner even though it was rather uncomfortable for the both of them. They couldn't afford to let their guard down when getting comfortable anyway.
Naruto jumped at the sound of the door opening and pressed closer against Sasuke and Sasuke wrapped his arm protectively around Naruto while he glared at the intruder with what looked like his best attempt at threatening the man.
"Come with me," said the intruder. Sasuke nodded and slowly worked both himself and Naruto off the ground. Unfortunately, they didn't move fast enough because the man in the room raised his voice and yelled, "Move!"
Naruto jumped and clung to Sasuke even harder than before and Sasuke responded by pulling Naruto as close to him as he could while still leaving them both easily able to walk.
The walk wasn't much. The building that they were in was filled with twists and turns, but both Naruto and Sasuke already had the blueprints of it memorized. Still, they had to make it look like they had no clue where they were so they kept looking around like lost sheep. The man in front of them seemed to be enjoying their fear and that made Sasuke really want to rip the man's throat out. He couldn't, though. As much as he'd like to, that would give them away.
When they finally reached the main office, Sasuke was kind of let down to be faced with a door that looked like all the rest. It leant itself to the confusion of the building so that the enemy would get lost inside it, but Sasuke was half expecting to be faced with a totally extravagant door like the one that lead to the council room at their home office. As it was, the lock was the only thing that was all extravagant on this door and he couldn't even see it on the outside. It was only once the door was opened that Sasuke, could somewhat see how much this door was made to keep people out. It was much thicker than the rest of the doors and there was a complex system of locks that made it so that only someone from the inside could open it. That meant that someone either had to be on the inside at all times or the door was left open whenever the boss was not in the room. Either way, it was an opening that Sasuke was very willing to use.
"So I hear that you two were witness to some of my more unsavory practices down in the alley," the boss said from his seat behind the large desk. He wore an expensive white suit and a pleasurable expression that combined might have made him look like an innocent man if it weren't for the not so innocent glints in his eyes and the scattering of scars on his knuckles, which sat folded before him on the desk. "My boys, here, say that they offered you a job."
Sasuke nodded quickly. He didn't want to seem too eager, but he figured that a homeless kid's fear tempered with the promise of a job that might mean a steady home would at least warrant a quick nod of the head.
"Of course, it's not their decision who I take under my wing. So, what's to stop me from killing the two of you right where you stand?" The boss didn't take out a gun and neither did any of the underlings that were in the room with them, but the promise was definitely true. If Sasuke couldn't convince them to let the two of them stay, this would be ending a lot quicker and messier than they were hoping.
"We-we're very good at stealing," Sasuke tried timidly, adding in a slight stutter for effect. "We've had to steal to eat."
"Hah," the boss laughed. The others looked like they might have joined in for the simple fear that their boss might get mad at them if they didn't, but he stopped before any of them had the chance. "You think I actually need little thieves. I can get whatever I want around here." Sasuke knew that, of course, but it was worth a shot to show that the two of them could be criminals even if it was only petty theft. "You and your little girlfriend best think of something better than that real quick if you want to leave this room alive."
"He's my boyfriend," Sasuke corrected quietly.
"What's that?" the boss raised a brow. "That kid's a boy? I never would've thought it. That is interesting. I don't think that I have any gay men in my gang. I like you kid." It helped, of course, that the Intel that was collected on the boss before their mission mentioned that he was secretly gay and didn't want his gang to know for fear of them losing respect in him. It was one of the reasons that the two of them were supposed to be going in as a couple.
"Does that mean that we get the job?" Sasuke asked, pressing his luck despite the fact that he doesn't even know what said job would entail. If he were truly living on the streets and trying to pay for both him and his boyfriend to eat, he would need work no matter how horrible it was. He only hoped that it wasn't going to be too demeaning if they were going to have to stay there for a while because of their new problem of an undercover cop.
"I'm sure we can find something for you two to do," the boss laughed. "It would be a shame to just kill you."
Sasuke's grin was one of excitement and relief, but he couldn't help but think that it probably would have been better for the boss if he had killed them.
