Epilogue

Two years passed and things were starting to rebuild for Blaine, he found his confidence again and started auditioning for solos and leads. He lost his virginity to Kurt one glorious night which had helped him come to see his body in a different way. He could see how Kurt admired the features Blaine had convinced himself for years were disgusting. Of course, he wasn't going to just recover instantly, but it helped give him faith that one day he could love his body completely. He was reminded that a lot of people never fully recover from an eating disorder, but they stop it from taking over their life. Blaine couldn't wait till he went through a day without succumbing to some sort of disordered thought.

It got harder after Kurt left. Blaine had no intention on keeping Kurt in Ohio, as much as he felt he wanted and needed him there, he didn't want Kurt to resent him so he prepared a number and whisked him away. With Kurt, went his security but he wasn't thinking about that. He was just thinking about missing the sound of his voice - which never sounded the same on the phone - and the smell of him, the feel of him. He was going to miss a lot but he knew it was for the best, right? His schedule slowly became stocked with clubs and meetings, he needed distractions from how much he missed Kurt. Again, the timetables neglected Blaine's time to unwind, Blaine's time to eat but Blaine neglected the warning signs once more but this time he was pulled out of it because Kurt gave him the kick up the backside he needed.

In those two years, Blaine and Kurt broke up. Blaine had stretched Kurt too thin and a trip to the hospital for dehydration led to a quick trip by Kurt telling him he couldn't do it anymore. He didn't want to be Blaine's carer and Blaine needed to work on himself before they could really be anything. Blaine was heartbroken and the thoughts went haywire as they planned ways to get back at him - Maybe if you starved to death he would be sorry - but then he realised what Kurt was really doing. He recalled how heartbroken Kurt had been, this wasn't some easy decision, this was Kurt knowing that Blaine needed to have faith in himself for their relationship to move forward. So that's what he did. He ate properly, took care of himself and though he missed Kurt like crazy, he knew he was making him proud. So when Kurt came back for the summer, Kurt could see how much better Blaine was and how he was going to take things seriously.

And now? Now Blaine was in New York with Kurt, they were engaged to be married (eventually) and Blaine was on top of the world. He loved the change of setting, the freedom Ohio hadn't offered him. He loved being able to focus on his love of performing in school rather than having to go through lessons that were meant to be better for his job prospects. He loved living with Sam and Mercedes and being an adult - but he also loved the food. Not many people realise that a lot of people with eating disorders don't hate food, it's not as simple as that. In Blaine's case, the food itself wasn't an issue it was the sense of control and the sense of strength. In fact, Blaine loved food just hated the power it had over his psyche and that ended up in him avoiding it altogether.

New York City was full of multicultural influences and that was very apparent with the food. There was no leaving the house without walking passed several different scents and temptation, Blaine also had quite a bit of free time between classes and he was always so hungry after rehearsals. In his mind, he was completely on a high and he wasn't paying attention to the calories or the amount of food he was eating - just the taste and loving the feeling of being full. But, it wasn't just New York that was encouraged that, because on the other end of the scale, Kurt was being careful with what he ate. It wasn't enough for Blaine to worry that Kurt was suffering from an eating disorder, he was just getting more and more aware of how his boyfriend's body was changing. Gone was the small amount of puppy fat, replaced with a chiseled jaw and toned muscles. Kurt was working out and Blaine was only growing out.

His eyes were opened one day when he had stayed the night with Kurt and rather than being able to just slip into his trousers the next day, he spent ten minutes pulling them on and trying to zip them up. He looked down, wondering if they had shrunk when he realised he couldn't see past his stomach. His eyes widened and his hand moved over the slight belly and he swallowed nervously. Those thoughts were just itching at the back of his mind, this was what they had tried to prevent. He bit his lip, closed his eyes and took deep breaths as he suppressed the thoughts and then breathing in to do up his trousers and finished getting dressed. As much as he wanted to pretend that morning didn't happen, it left him in a mood that made it hard to shift. What made it harder, was seeing how comfortable Kurt was.

"Wow, check out the gun show!" reached his ears. It was someone from Kurt's year, muscular and tall. Kurt grinned, lifting his arm to tense his muscles,
"Well, thank you." he said, with that modest-but-not-modest grin on his face. It was true, Kurt had really started forming muscle and tone. Before he had hidden it behind layers of fashion but as time progressed, he started to show himself off more. And Blaine was sat watching as guys marvelled at his body.
"All Right! I need everyone to pair up, half Athenians, half Spartans. Spartans are skins, Athenians are shirts." came the voice of the instructor. Blaine watched as Kurt slipped off his shirt without hesitation and he had to release a sharp breath as the guys watched. At least in Ohio there weren't many gay guys as competition. Blaine kept his shirt on and stood up, preparing himself for this class. But it was hard, Blaine couldn't keep his eyes from moving to Kurt and then checking the room. Everyone in the classroom looked good, there was barely an ounce of fat on anyone around him... apart from himself. He lost his footing but kept his head down, not wanting to see if Kurt had seen anything. If Kurt had known what was going through his head, he could lose him again. Unfortunately though, keeping it in made things worse.

He found himself making excuses, telling Kurt he was busy so couldn't hang out with him. Sam was spending a lot of time with Mercedes so he didn't notice how Blaine spent more time in the house. Kurt didn't give up, though and had managed to come round to surprise Blaine with a trip to the cinema.
"Hey, stranger." he said, passing Blaine a flower. Blaine blushed,
"Hey... didn't you have work tonight?" he asked. Kurt shook his head,
"Rachel covered for me when she heard that I haven't seen you all week aside from in class..." Blaine shrugged,
"I have a lot of practicing to do..." he said, softly, putting the flower in a vase. Kurt moved over to Blaine and rested a hand against his arm,
"Please talk to me." Kurt whispered. Blaine hung his head slightly as he took a deep breath before he turned to him.
"Kurt... I..." Blaine sighed, "I feel... so insecure around everyone..." he said, gently. Kurt bit his lip, but he didn't say anything so Blaine was obligated to continue, "You've been getting muscle tone... everyone in class... and then..." Kurt took a deep breath before he moved forward.

"Come with me." he said, softly, taking Blaine's hand and Blaine let Kurt led him to the mirror. "What do you see?" he asked, gently. Blaine could barely make eye contact with his reflection but he looked at himself and debated his answer,
"Someone who could probably lose a few pounds or gain some muscle before he can be a spartan..." Blaine admitted, unable to look at Kurt's reflection as he spoke. He could almost hear Kurt's lips pursed through Kurt's reply.
"Funny... I can see a very handsome fiance who is adjusting to life in a new city, with new freedom. And who is probably stressing out about being in a tough school..." Kurt's hand massaged Blaine's shoulder as he spoke, "And he doesn't have to avoid me because he's feeling insecure." Blaine smiled gently, leaning back against Kurt as he heaved a sigh,
"Can you be my personal trainer?" Blaine asked, glancing back and Kurt grinned,
"I thought you'd never ask."
