I do not own The Vampire Diaries
After Klaus kissed Caroline goodbye, he immediately went to get a drink, surprised Kol wasn't there. Maybe he drank all of the scotch and went to drink at some poor man's bar. Klaus supposed he should discuss his drinking with him; it was getting slightly out of hand. On second thought, no. It was Kol's business, besides he didn't want to start sounding like Elijah. Speaking of Elijah, he was probably out trying to find dirt on Caroline. Klaus took a seat as he thought about Caroline.
Just her name brought a smile to his face. She was so sweet and bubbly, but tough. She could take care of herself and wasn't afraid of anything. She knew what she wanted and she got it. She was so brave and beautiful, and she somehow became a part of his life.
He knew she had secrets and baggage, but none of it mattered to him, all that mattered was her. He had no idea how it happened, but it happened. He went to take a sip of his drink, but stopped mid sip and frowned.
He got up and examined the glass of scotch on the table. The ice was melted and it was oblivious Kol forgot about it, making Klaus even more suspicious. He set his drink down and slowly walked into the hallway. He froze and slowly turned around.
"Father," He whispered.
"Niklaus," Mikael smirked.
"Elijah," Caroline whispered.
"Caroline," He said calmly, before stepping in the house, causing her to step back.
He surprised her by grabbing her arm and spinning her around, pressing her face first into the wall. He grabbed a fist full of her shirt and yanked it off, revealing her scarred back, proving his theory all along. This was his Caroline.
Caroline seemed to finally regain her composer as she threw her foot back, connecting with his shin. It wasn't much, but it was enough to get him to let up on the back of her neck and arm. She spun around and kept her body against the wall, facing her sire.
He looked at her with a mixture of emotions, but at the moment she couldn't deal with any of them. "It's you," He said.
"Yes, it's me you idiot, took you long enough, which, by the way, worst timing in the world! Now I have to go and beat people up shirtless," She snapped, trying to move. He grabbed her just above her collarbone and slammed her back.
"You're not going anywhere!" He stated.
"Yes I am Elijah, because if I don't, Mikael is going to kill your siblings," Caroline said.
It was enough to make Elijah release her and step back, and for the first time she noticed Alex had joined them. He tossed her a shirt which she quickly put on. "We can either stand here and fight, or we can leave right now and fight your father, together."
Elijah stared at her before slowly nodding his head.
"What are you doing here?" Klaus asked.
"Do I really need to explain why I'm here Niklaus?" Mikael asked.
"No, I suppose not, since you have hunted me down for the last one thousand years," Klaus said. "Tell me father, how did you finally find us? Did you get better witches or did you just get smarter?"
Mikael's smirk disappeared and he glared at Klaus. "Actually it's you who messed up son," Mikael said. "That pretty little blonde of yours and her brother cost you your life."
"What are you talking about?" Klaus asked.
"Caroline and Alex happen to be colleges of mine. You've been careful all this time but the minute a cute woman says all the right things to you and warms your bed at night you forget about everything important. Not that I blame you," Mikael smirked, stepping towards him. "Tell me, were you able to satisfy her like I could?"
That was all it took from Mikael to get Klaus upset and have him lunge at him. Mikael grabbed him and threw him into the nearest wall and rushed over, grabbing him by the throat. "Did you actually think someone would care about you? Trust you?" Mikael grabbed. "Caroline never cared about you, no one has, and no one ever will."
Klaus's eyes turned amber and his hybrid features popped out, and he threw Mikael away. If wanted a fight, he would get a fight. Mikael surprised him by grabbing Kol's bat and hitting him across the face with it, and followed it with a critical blow to his back. It was enough to get Klaus down, and he did it over and over again, until Klaus couldn't move. He dragged him to his knees and pulled the white oak stake out of his coat.
"See you in hell," he hissed, and raised it to end him.
A blur came flying at Mikael and tackled him to the ground. Caroline grabbed the stake and put it in her coat and went to check on Klaus while Elijah wrestled with Mikael.
"Don't touch me," He hissed, pulling away from her.
Caroline had to admit, that hurt, but no time to deal with the sudden pang in her heart, she had to get him up and get him out of here.
Alex flashed in the room and panted," I found Kol and Rebekah."
Elijah stood up and was by Klaus's side at this point and was glancing between him and Mikael, obviously trying to decide who to deal with first. Save his siblings and get out of here, or finish off his father once and for all? Caroline knew that whatever Mikael did to Rebekah and Kol they wouldn't be able to move for a while and it would take two people to move them. She couldn't leave either Elijah or Klaus here; she wouldn't be able to live with herself if she did that. This was her mess; she needed to clean it up.
"Alex, take them to Bonnie. I'll deal with Mikael," Caroline decided while Mikael slowly stood up and stared at her.
"What?" Alex asked, looking surprised.
"Take the helicopter and don't stop. I'll catch up in the morning," Caroline said.
"You're helping them?" Mikael hissed.
"I always did," Caroline replied.
Mikael growled and went after her. She saw it coming and grabbed his shoulders and yanked him down at the same time she brought her knee up. They collided with a nasty snap, and both her knee and his skull was damaged. She shoved him away from her and glanced at Alex. "You awe me this," She hissed.
"You can't take on Mikael," Elijah said.
"You have your siblings to worry about Elijah, don't worry about me. Take them and go, Alex will help you get out of town," Caroline said.
Mikael was up on all fours at this point and Caroline went over to him and slammed his head against the wall, trying to keep him disoriented and down.
"Let's go brother," Klaus growled.
They flashed out of the room and Caroline was too busy listening to them getting Kol and Rebekah she didn't notice Mikael getting up. He charged at her, grabbing her by her throat and kept running until they hit something, which just happened to be the stair way.
"You are going to regret this," He growled.
"For some reason I doubt that," She hissed.
"I suggest you three keep walking, I will eventually deal with you," Mikael said, never taking his eyes off Caroline.
"Leave Alex, now," Caroline ordered.
She didn't dare to even attempt to move until the door closed, then she shoved him away. He stumbled back, but not far, and they both flew at each and collided. It wasn't about strength; it was about speed, which Caroline had. She kicked him the middle of his back and when he went down, she slammed his face against the floor repeatedly. He somehow managed to shove her away, and she hit a wall with a thump, but quickly got up and faced him.
"This is how it's going to end?" He growled.
"For you, yes," Caroline said.
"After everything I've done for you?" Mikael questioned.
"You mean everything you've done to me? You're lucky I haven't betrayed you sooner!" Caroline hissed.
Mikael had a short temper, and Caroline knew exactly how to play on it, which was what she was doing right now. He hit her with several punched, causing her to fall to the floor, where he attacked her ribs.
"Everything I've ever done was to help you!" Mikael yelled.
Caroline grabbed his foot and shoved him back. Caroline noticed a baseball bat that was broken in half and grabbed it and shoved on end in Mikael's stomach and put all her weight and strength on it.
"Help me? How is beating me every chance you get help me?" She questioned. She kept digging the stake in deeper and deeper until it hit the ground. She backed up to catch her breath while Mikael struggled to move to pull the staked out. "Do you see how you helped me Mikael?" Caroline asked sarcastically.
Mikael surprised her by jumping up and slamming her against the wall and held her in a crushing grip. The bones moved under his grip and blood was pouring out of her mouth unto his hand.
"I have helped you in so many ways, ways you can't even imagine! If this is how you repay me then you do not deserve the air that is pumping through your lungs!" he hissed dangerously close to her face.
How many times has this happened? Caroline being held against a wall with Mikael's hand wrapped around her throat, blood pumping out of her mouse. He somehow knew how to break just enough bones to cause people to loose blood like this, and feel this much pain without killed them right away.
He knew exactly how to make her suffer. You would think that after all these years she would be used to this, she would be able to handle it, but she couldn't. The one thing she learned was that no matter what, no matter how much pain you were in, no matter how hard it was or how impossible it was, fight back.
Despite her blurred vision and the dizziness she felt, she managed to get her hand inside her coat and weakly pull out the white oak stake out and shove it through Mikael's heart. His eyes widened in surprise and he turned gray and dropped to his knees. Caroline slid down the wall and held her throat while it healed, never taking her eyes off of him.
It didn't surprise her he didn't die. Only a white oak stake could kill and Original, and that wasn't a real white oak stake. That was why she couldn't let Klaus or Elijah stay behind. He would be upset hen he woke up to find out that it was a fake, but she had no intentions of being there when it happened.
She glanced out the window to find it almost sunrise, giving her extra time. Mikael never worked during the day and she was extremely relieves. She needed time to ecover before she on out.
She pulled herself up and stumbled out of the house and out to the paved cement. She managed to stand back up and make her up through the drive way and down the sidewalk. She couldn't move. She needed blood before she went anywhere. She stayed where she was until a hand touched her shoulder.
"Miss, are you okay?" A voice asked, but all Caroline heard was the blood pumping through their veins. The sound of their heartbeat booming in their chest. A burning settled in her throat and she felt like she was starving. She hadn't felt like this since she was first turned, and she knew her reaction would be the same, only difference was she wouldn't feel guilty afterwards.
"Miss?" They asked again.
She grabbed the hand that was touching her shoulder and yanked them down into her lap and sank her fangs into their artery.
She drank in long gulps, only slowing down when she felt the person's life ebb away. But she didn't stop, she couldn't stop, she needed this blood. She needed the strength and nutrition from it. Whatever happened next, wherever this led too, she knew there would be a battle. There would be decisions to make, battles to fight, people she would lose. She couldn't avoid it, she certainly couldn't stop it, but she would be prepared for it.
She pulled away from the human and looked down at them. A girl who couldn't have been more than 17 years old. On another occasion, she would feel guilt or remorse, but it had to be done. There was a list of things that had to be done, and there was an order. Feeding and killing this girl was number one, number two was a lot bloodier and barbaric. Decapitating her. Caroline did it quickly then stood up and walked away like nothing happened.
Caroline entered the house she called home less than 24 hours ago, She never really did have a home, even when she was human, so the fact that she had to move on yet again, it didn't faze her. Same old stuff. She didn't waste time as she gathered everything she needed. Money, passports, driver license, a few weapons, and last but not least, and probably the most important thing, the daylight ring from Emily.
Caroline starred down at the ring in her hand vs the one she was wearing. They were completely different. The one she was wearing now was big and flashy. It was godly and Carolien hated it. The other one was small and had a fragile look to it. She slipped the one off and replaced it with the one she always wanted to wear.
Emily told her to wear it when she was ready, well she was ready. She was scared and didn't want to know what happened next, because she knew whatever happened wouldn't be pretty. So many people would get hurt, including herself, but now she was prepared. She was full of light and innocence, she was meant to do good things, and now all she and to do was prove it.
She threw the old thing in the empty fireplace and walked away from her old life and into the new her.
