Chapter 14 - Uncomfortable and Unspoken

Bailey made her way to class thirty minutes early. Cody and she were in the habit of getting their early and discussing homework and getting a start on homework for the next week. As she entered the class she was really surprised to see Chris instead of Cody. She walked to her desk next to Chris and looked over at him. He was writing in a journal and didn't even break his concentration long enough to greet his friend. "Are you alright?" Bailey asked. Chris looked away from his journal and gave her a nod. "You sure?" she asked worried. "Yeah." Chris replied looking back at his journal and continuing to write. "So...what are you writing?" Bailey asks looking at Chris. "Just reflecting on the last couple of days and writing about it." he says looking over at her and closing the journal. "O...okay." she says looking at him. "Yeah...so what are you doing here so early?" he asks. "I always get here early to look over my homework and get started on the homework for the next week. Usually Cody is here too and we discuss it but today he isn't and that is why I was a little surprised to see you." Bailey says. "O...well he was still asleep when I left the room this morning." Chris tells her. "Well that is not like him...did he look sick last night before he went to bed, that would be the only reason that he wouldn't wake up early that I could guess." Bailey asks looking at Chris. "Well he didn't look sick but I really didn't notice and we didn't talk after we walked you to your cabin." Chris says. "Why not?" Bailey asks. "I don't really know he didn't really look at me and he didn't say anything to me. I think he might be angry at me but I'm not sure what for." Chris says looking at her. "I don't think he is mad I just think he might feel like you might be upset about the kiss." she says. "Maybe...I just hope the silence doesn't last very long." Chris says.

Suddenly other students start to make their way into class. Bailey and Chris look as the other students walk into the class. After a few seconds they see Cody walk into class and sit at the back of the class. They look at each other with confusion on their faces. They couldn't understand why Cody would sit at the back of the class.

Suddenly the bell rings and Ms. Tutweiller walks into class. "Alright students I hope you had an interesting weekend." she says. Chris and Bailey look at each other and then look to where Cody is sitting. He looks up and sees them then quickly looks down at his desk. Bailey and Chris stare at each other with worried eyes. Chris leans over to talk to Bailey, "What do you think is wrong?" "I'm not sure but I'll ask him after class." Bailey replies. Chris gives her a nod and they both look forward to try and pay attention to Miss Tutweiller but their mind is more worried about their friend Cody.

After what seemed like a lifetime of listening to Ms. Tutweiller the bell rang. Chris and Bailey walked to Cody to talk to him. As they got close to him he looked at them then looked at the ground. "What's wrong Cody?" Chris asked. Cody continued looking at the ground not answering the question. "Are you mad at me?" Chris asked. Once again Cody sat in silence. Chris looked at Bailey with concern and sadness towards his friend. He nodded at Bailey to let her know he was leaving. It was now just her and Cody, and it was now her responsibility to figure out what is wrong with him.

Cody looks up at his friend and then he gathers his stuff. Bailey watches as he gathers his things, gets up and starts to head out the door. She follows right beside him. "Are you okay Cody?" she asks. He suddenly stops and looks at her. "I feel like things are different between us." "What do you mean? Between me and you?" she asks. "No between me and Chris. I feel like he and I are uncomfortable around each other since the kiss." he replies. "It has only been a day and he tried talking to you but you ignored him." Bailey says. "I didn't mean to ignore him I just think I might have freaked him out a bit, I mean wouldn't you freak out if someone just came up to you and kissed you out of nowhere?" Cody asks. "Yeah I would but it's not like you are some random person, you're his friend, so talk to him about it if you want to." Bailey says. "I will Bailey I just need time and I should give him time to forget so we can have a rational conversation and so he won't be as freaked out." Cody says. "If that's what you want." Bailey says. "Yeah I just need time and he needs time so I'll talk to him when I'm ready. Well I have to go, lots of stuff to do. I'll talk to you later." Cody says as he walks off. Bailey waves and sort of frowns. "Oh Cody if only you knew what he thought of that kiss everything would be better." she thinks. Bailey lets out a soft sigh and walks to her cabin.
