A/N: SOrry, sorry, sorry! I'm trying my best to update here but ugh! I hate school. Anyway only 2 more chapters and this story will over :( But don't worry I'm starting another VA story. That will be posted as soon as Miracles and Ready are done.
Chapter 13
The next morning
"Mom, do I really have to go to school?" Selena asks as I woke her up for the day.
"Selena, you know that you have to go to school," I tell her as I sit down on the bed. "Why do you ask that?" I could see the tears spilling from her eyes. "Baby why are you crying?" I asked her.
"I'm just really worried about Addy," she says through the tears. "All I kept thinking about at school was if she was okay. What if something happened to her? I just couldn't focus."
"Oh baby," I say as I pull her into my arms. "Adelyn is fine, I promise you. Actually yesterday she tried to eat from a bottle."
"She did?" Selena choked out.
"Yeah but she wasn't strong enough to handle it all but she's doing fine."
"I just want her home. I didn't even get to hold her when we were there," she says as she pulls away and wipes away a tear.
"I'll tell you what," I say as I take one of her hands in mine. "I'll email all your teachers and ask if you can be homeschooled this semester." I could see the elation in her eyes. "But I am going to talk your dad first and see what he says. Just for today you can stay home."
"Thank you, thank you, thank you," she says as she envelopes me in a hug.
"Just until I get word about you being homeschooled for the semester and only one semester. Deal?"
"Deal," she smiles.
"Good," I say sternly. "Now get dressed. We're leaving in an hour or two."
"Yes ma'am."
I walk out of the room and back to my room. Adrian was already making the bed. "Your daughter is something else," I mumble as I walk into the closet.
"Why?" he asks confused.
"She just made a deal with me about being homeschooled this semester and I agreed."
"And that's bad why?"
"She's taking too much on her plate," I say exasperated.
"Whoa, whoa, whoa," Adrian says as he held up his hands in surrender. "Sydney, what's wrong?"
"She's only 16 years old and she has the burden of a grown adult," I say in a huff. Adrian looked at me confused. "She just told me that she's worried about Adelyn. She was so worried that she wasn't focusing in school. She shouldn't have to worry. Adelyn isn't her baby."
"But she is her sister. Sweetie, Selena is not like kids her age," Adrian says as he wraps his arms around me.
"What do you mean?"
"Since I met her, I noticed that Selena is an old soul," he says. "She doesn't care about what type of clothes she's going to wear or who the hottest celebrity is."
"Dominic Sherwood,"(ahh see what I did there) I jump in remembering all the fuss Selena was making recently.
"Anyway," Adrian chuckles. "She worried more about the little things like your health when you were pregnant and her little sister."
"You're right but she's too young," I say as I pull away from him. "She doesn't need to be an adult quite yet."
"I know but what can we do," he says as he pulls me into another hug. "We can't force her to be a child."
"I know," I sigh. "I know."
"She's going to be fine," he murmurs into my hair. "She's also a dreamer and a fighter."
"That she is," I sigh. "I'm going to get in the shower."
"Want some company?" he smirks.
"You know we can't do that for at least 6 weeks," I tease as I close the bathroom door.
By the time all 3 of us were ready, Rose and the others were waiting downstairs for us. "About time," Rose chastise. "We've been waiting on you three."
"Well we're here now," I say. "Let's go see my baby."
"Right behind ya, mamma bear," Rose laughs as I hear her and the others follow me out to the car.
"Very funny Rose," I say over shoulder. "Very, very funny."
"Looks like big sister came to see little booger today," Lily says as we walk in the room.
"She might be visiting more often," I respond as I head to the sink to wash up.
"Well that's good news," Lily smiles. "She drank an ounce and a half today from the bottle."
"She did?"
"Yup, guess she felt that her big sister was coming today and wanted to show off," Lily smiled. "Do you want to hold her?" she asks Selena.
Selena turns to look at me. "Why are you looking at me?" I chuckle. "She is your sister." She smiles as she hugs me then follows Adrian over to the sink to wash up.
After she was done and sitting in a nearby chair, Adrian walked over to Adelyn's bed and picked her. "Alright monkey, now I don't want any pinching, squeezing, or crying. This is your big sister and you two love each other. Got it?" He placed Adelyn in Selena's arms and came to stand by my side. "How does it feel, Lena?"
Selena was quiet for a whole. I could see that she was just staring at Adelyn. After a few minutes passed she finally said, "Amazing." I could see the tears in her eyes as well as feel my own wanting to spill over.
Adrian draped his arm over my shoulder and pulled me into his body. As I leaned my head on his chest I let the tears fall. My adoptive daughter and my biological daughter finally in the same room. I couldn't ask for a better sight.
