A/N: It only took me close to 2 years to write an epilogue but I finally did. I hope you enjoy and I also hope I still have followers who actually want another chapter.
"Come on boys!" Jane yells back to her sons running in a sea of pink. Even if she doesn't want to admit that her kids are turning into young men and she is getting older she can truthfully say she is still in better shape then the boys. "Are you going to let an old woman beat you?"
With sweat dripping from Nate's head he looks to his brother who is wearing the same pick shirt as him. "Ma is really never going to age." Laughing, Nick shakes his head and adds, "And we are never going to beat her if you don't pick up the pace."
"What?!" the fair-skinned boy makes a face like his mother and it makes Nick slow up. "I am only running at this pace because I fear for your health. I wouldn't want you to pass out from overexerting yourself."
"So you're my doctor now huh?" The curly-haired boy laughs. "Come on lets beat her for Mom!"
Jane looks back and sees the boys advancing on her, even if these kids are thirteen she knows she can outrun them any day but seeing their determination she slows her pace and watches as the boys pass her and run over the finish line. As she crosses it herself she looks at the big red numbers. Under thirty minutes not bad Jane.
"Ma we totally whooped you!" Nate yells out, as she hugs her son she feels her other son latch on.
"Yeah we beat your time!" Nick smiles and she sadly returns it when she sees Maura reflected in it.
"Oh wow, you beat an older woman by mere seconds." Ruffling both boys hair she adds, "If mom was here she would have beat all three of us."
"Yeah she would have." The light haired boy says more solemnly than he intended but he really had been missing his mom lately. Noticing his brother's demeanor Nick points to his brother's breast cancer shirt with the hand written words saying, "For Mom" on it.
"Hey, we ran this 5k for her, she was here in spirit." Jane says and before she can say more she hears her name being called along with her sons.
"JANE!" Even after all the time that has passed her heart soars. "Boys! I'm so glade I could find you!"
"Maur?" She shouts at the same time the boys run over to hug their mother.
"MOM!" They shout with excitement. "Mom we beat Ma!"
"I saw!" the blonde exclaims hugging her boys with much love even though in the back of her mind she knows their sweat is ruining her designer suede jacket. "Im so grateful that you guys ran this for me…for everyone in the breast cancer community." Stepping back she walks over to the brunette and kisses her before whispering in her ear, "Did you let them win, or is my sexy and beautiful wife getting too old?"
Feigning shock Jane steps back like she was stabbed by a dagger, "How dare you!"
Maura gives a small breathe of a giggle and rolls her eyes.
"I'm going to ignore what you just said because I am just extremely happy to be seeing you today…and outside on a sunny day, without a crime scene nonetheless!"
It had been a busy summer, Jane's closure rate was at an all time high (with the help of Maura of course!) but a busy summer also meant that the morgue was backed up.
"Yes, Crowe solved his murder." The brunette knew how much of an ass Crowe was but he was thorough which meant a lot of follow up questions with the M.E. The other detectives seemed not to mind when Susie or the new hire took the lead on their cases; but Crowe only worked with Maura because he knew she was the best at what she did. "I hurried over and I thought I had missed everyone cross but I saw you and then the boys running to the finish line."
"Well we really missed you running out there." Nick says and Nate shakes his head affirming what his brother has just said.
"Well, even if you hadn't had to work I would have been worried for you the whole time." Jane grabs her wife's hand and the whole family begins to walk to the parking lot. "I wouldn't have wanted you running out there in that mess."
"Jane, I am only three months pregnant, I am not going to break." Maura shakes her head as she begins spouting off facts, "During pregnancy, exercise can prevent pain and discomfort, boost mood and energy levels, help you sleep better and prevents excessive weight gain. Not to mention, the added benefits of reducing the risks of depression AND gestational diabetes which is often a side effect, if you will, with pregnancy."
"I know, I would just worry the whole time if you were pushing yourself too hard or staying hydrated enough. This baby seems like a miracle, there was a high chance because of your medical history that you may not be able to have another kid." Jane stops when she sees her wife with tears in her eyes, "Great, I made you cry."
"No, it's…they are not bad tears. I'm just emotional from the hormones my body is making right now." Maura tries to dry her eyes. "I really love how you care."
"I will always care about you like this Maur." Jane declares before kissing the blonde. She stops and opens her eyes when she hears one of her sons making gagging noises. Taking the water bottle in her hand she goes to splash the both of them but only Nate gets the majority of the water. "You both better take note because this is how you should treat the person you're with!"
"I DIDN'T DO IT!" Nate screams before taking his water bottle and dumping it over a laughing Nick. "That's for making Ma throw water on me!" Before Nick can return the favor Maura screams out for everyone to stop.
"I am so glad I drove here separately. You boys get to drive home in the cruiser today and to think you could have drove home in the new Mercedes with the Bluetooth for your iphone, now you get to listen to your Ma's CD's."
That gets the boys to start bickering as the women watch the kids walk to the car. Laughing, Jane gives her wife another kiss goodbye as she rubs the blonde's stomach. "I hope this one is a girl. I don't think I can handle another guy in the house."
"If I know you at all Jane, I know that you would be able to handle anything life throws at you." And Jane smiles before replying, "Only if you're by my side."
Well, that is it! I hope it was worth the wait.
