Chapter 14

Pretty Girl

"Please remind me why I'm doing this again?" Jack asks as we walk into my house. I roll my eyes.

"Because, Jack. You're being nice. My parents asked me to this, and Mike is out with his friends. There's no way I could get this done by the end of the day by myself!' I say exasperated as we make our way down to the basement of my house. I turn the lights on, revealing hundreds of boxes and things scatter everywhere. Jack glares at me.

"Kim, this place is creepy! Can't we clean my basement instead?" I give him a confused look. I pick up a random box and begin searching through it.

"You don't have a basement. . ." Jack follows my example and gets the another random box.

"Exactly."

"Get to work, Brewer," I say throwing some sort of old messed up wig. He throws it off of him in disgust.

"What is that thing? A rats nest?" I continue picking things out through the box to throw at Jack. So what if I made a bigger mess? It was worth it.

"My mom used to do theater when she was younger. It's probably just some old wig she had to wear. . ." I say not really paying much attention to him.

"What part was she playing. A - hey, stop throwing things at me! You're making a bigger mess! Okay, ew, what was that?" Jack asks in disgust.

"I'm not sure, maybe a used tissue or something?" I say looking at it with a strange look.

"Why does your family have all this junk anyway?" Jack asks me bitterly. I look at all the boxes.

"They must mean something to my parents. Besides, they aren't totally unorganized, they are all organized according to something. See, they have things written on the boxes. This is theater and you're looking through my old stuffed animals." I say walking over to him. I pick up a random bunny with one ear missing.

"I remember getting this. I was five or six. I was at the park and some other little kid dropped it next to me. She didn't notice, so I stole it." I say tossing it back in the box.

"Wow, what a heart warming story. . . If this stuff is already organized then why are we down here, throwing everything of the box?" He asks closing the box.

"My mom got some new furniture for down here, she wants us to turn this place into a place we can actually move in."

"You expect us to do this all in one day?" I shake my head.

"No. We just need to better organize the boxes better, get rid of some things we don't need, take some things upstairs, et cetera." He nods in fake interest.

"So for example, Kim's stuffed animals equals trash?" I shake my head taking back the box that he was taking towards the trash.

"No, that will be going back upstairs in my room along with my old school projects," I say gesturing to another box titled 'Kim's School Projects'. Jack chuckles.

"Why do you want to keep that junk?" I glare at him.

"It's not junk, idiot. It has sentimental value. Don't you have anything like that?" He thinks about it for a second then shrugs.

"Not really, but I would love to see wittle Kim's perfect school projects." He pokes me on the nose, I roll my eys for the thousandth time. I seem to that a lot whenever I'm around Jack.

"I don't believe you, but go ahead and look through my school projects. They aren't 'perfect' though. It's from Kindergarden to eighth grade." I say grabbing the box for him. I open it revealing tons of papers and artwork and pretty much everything you could think of.

"Woah, there must be like three thousand certificates in here!" He pulls out a random one and laughs "'This certificate is awarded to Kim Crawford for placing first in the Geography Bee.' What's the Geography Bee?" I snatch it back from him.

"It's just a test about Geography. I won by pure luck. It's really hard, and everyone who was in that had to guess on everything.I got five out ten questions right by guessing," I say stubbornly.

He ignores me and continues pulling out random papers and anything he can find. "Aww, this is what I was looking for, Kim's art projects. I bet you were a very talented artist," Jack says in a mocking tone.

He picks through my Kindergarden art projects. A self portrait, a turkey hand print, some random stocking I'd drawn for Christmas, and a drawing of a panda. Jack keeps staring at that one, and for the longest time I don't know why. Then it hits me. Panda, Kindergarden, Pretty Girl. I turn around mentally curse to myself. Please don'y remember, please don't remember. I shouldn't care, but things have already been extremely awkward between us, this would just make things worse. After a long silence he puts down everything but that picture. I pretendto act clueless.

"I know, it's a really great panda. That was my favorite project, but you could, uh, keep it or whatever. . ." I scratch the back of my head nervously.

"You're a terrible liar, Kiwi. Or should I call you 'Pretty Girl'?" I can feel my cheeks heating up, I hope that it's not to obvious.

"You know, I kind of prefer Katherine these days. . ." I say casually

"Oh, really?" I nod smiling.

"Why didn't you say anything when I told you that story?" I sigh.

"It was my little secret. Besides, it's just gonna make things awkward between us. . . If I remember correctly you said I was a goddess. . ." His cheeks got slightly red.

"If any other girl was standing here, I'd say that was before I met them . . . but, you, I can't lie, Kim. You do look like a goddess. If anyone was to say otherwise, they'd be crazy." I stay silent. My face probably looked like it was on fire. That's what it felt like, at least.

"You know when I tole Lindsay that story she said she knew who the girl was. I asked her who it was, but all she said was that girl was uglier then an a cyclops. I don't think she really knew, I don't see how she could've. Maybe she did though, she may have just been jealous. Because, looking at you, I can't think of anyone more beautiful."

"Jack . . . I - I -"

"I know, you have a boyfriend, you made the clear when you slapped me," I hide my face in guilt "but, I'm letting you know that's what I think of you. Even when I first met you. . ."

"I'm sorry Jack, but me and you. . .' He walked upstairs taking the boxes up to my room, leaving me in shocked silence.

A/N: Really short filler chapter with some Kick. I decided to put in this chapter before the next chapter when things get messed up. :)

A response to some reviews:

Christiana C - Haha, it's fine. You weren't the first to misunderstand, I need to be more clear. =P Glad you like the chapter though!

swagmasterlol - I don't remeber if I sent you a PM about that or not. But do you mean why she got in trouble? She got in trouble for physically harming another student.

HayBriannnie - Twist the names up a little and you've got chapter 16 ;)

Until, next time my friends!

Byeee!
