Another attempt with my bad angst skills. To be honest I don't know if I should be happy or sad with the fact that I can't write it... I think'll stick with fluffy stuff
It had been raining for a while now.
It didn't seem like it was going to stop, the never ending dull sound echoing through the small room and shrouding her within her fears. She was alone, so alone. Everyone was gone now, her friends, family, everyone she held dear to her had evaporated from the world, never to be seen and loved again.
The thought of never seeing their faces again made her insanity double as it filled her mind with nothing but darkness. Every time she attempted to remember, their expressions, voices, there would be a sharp pain and a loud screeching noise before it would end just as quickly as it started.
The accident had left more than physical scars, the pain of it all making her want to end it anyway she could.
But it never stopped.
Due to the aftershocks, she was taken to a better place that would help her get better and stop the constant loop of remembering, pain and then forgetting. Only for it to happen all over again the following day.
She was alone.
The only sanctuary that gave her peace of mind was writing down lyrics on the pieces of paper that the doctor would give her. The words swirling within her heart being expressed as they escaped onto the blank canvass.
"Why are your words so sad?"
Umi never looked at the nurse, knowing that if she did the pain would come back. "Because my happiness was my friends. But there are gone now, and so it has left with them."
The nurse said no more after that, giving her the medication she needed and leaving without another word.
But it was okay, she had her shield, the paper before her acting like a barrier that kept the darkness at bay. She was safe when writing, that much she knew.
"Lights out, you need rest."
This time it was her doctor, the male's soft voice still having no effect like the first day. He was too soft, too kind, just likeā¦
"Gah!"
Her heart, it was hurting. And so was her mind, her limbs, everything that made up her was on fire. The pain feeling like she was melting on the inside.
Will she finally get to see them?
She could slowly begin to feel her body regaining its consciousness, her fingers twitching as they sent the electrical signals down through the rest of her being.
Oh, she was still here.
With the following days that passed, Umi found herself ignoring the world around her even more than usual. Only sitting at her desk and writing until the ink in her pen was no more. But even that didn't stop her.
Despite the years she had in education, the amount of words that she seemed to be using became reduced with each day that came and went.
"Lights out."
Despite not being within the shield, Umi was protected that night. Whatever, or whoever it was she didn't know. The question left unanswered until she received a letter the following morning.
"We found this along her possessions, I believed you knew her. Ayase-san I think it was?"
When the doctor left, Umi stared un-blinking at the envelop before her. Her mind debating if she should read whatever it was inside.
In the end she left it were it was, going back to her desk and writing down once again.
"Umi."
That voice, could it be?
"Umi~"
Were her wishes finally answered?
Umi opened her eyes, her tiredness seeming non-existent as she sat up in her bed. She looked around her room, waiting eagerly for the voice to call her name.
Silence.
"Umi!"
Tired amber flinched over towards the unopened letter still on the desk. Maybe reading the words from her love would give her some peace.
Unravelling back the covers, Umi padded over and switched on the little desk lamp. She sat down on the wooden chair and once again began staring at it. Her shaky hands regaining just enough strength and control to finally open it.
Umi.
How long have I been in Russia? I seem to lose track of time when not having someone reliable reminding me. And it's not just the time either.
But don't worry, I may not know the time but I can definitely feel that it won't be long until I can see you again.
Sorry for making this letter short, but it almost seems painful to write.
Until we meet again, my sweet Umi. Remember that I love you.
Tears welled up and fell from her eyes when they became too heavy, rolling down her cheek and leaving a trail for the next one to follow.
She hastily placed the letter aside and reached over to grab a new piece of paper, her vision slightly blurred as she scribbled down the words she had wanted to say from that day.
The next morning, Umi's doctor knocked on the door at his usual time. Becoming slightly alarmed when there was no answer or signs of life.
He unlocked the door and froze when Umi's limp body was spotted on the floor, her breathing still and her heart beat no more. The letter he handed yesterday clutched tightly in her lifeless hand.
The doctor yelled for more staff as he ran towards the fallen patient, holding her body as he attempted to regain her life.
She was finally free.
When Umi's body was taken away, the doctor's gaze finally landed on her desk. He stood to his feet and walked over to the neat table, picking up the only paper there. Reading the only line that was placed on the all but clear page.
Please come and get me.
