Okay so I felt that the last chapter was missing things, like it wasn't complete. So here's another chapter. I'm sorry I won't write personal notes for this, but in the next chapter I'll write personal notes for those who reviewed Chapter 13!
I own nothing. Please enjoy!
"Jason! Jason, listen to me!" Barbara screamed at the retreating form of Jason Todd. They were at the parking lot of the hospital, and Jason was hell bent on finding Slade and killing him.
"Jason! Now is not the time for you to go out of control!" she screamed once again. She got a reaction this time. Jason whipped around to face her, eyes blazing, nostrils flaring, chest heaving.
"Out of control? Out of control?" he shouted to the elder's face. "How can you say that! Didn't you hear what Roy said? The bastard blackmailed Dick, to become a criminal of all things! So yeah, I think I'm allowed to be a little out of control!"
Damn he was angry. He wonders why Barbara isn't angry as well; she's known Dick longer than he has…yet not one hint of anger. How could she? Did she not want to avenge what happened to Dick?
"No." Barbara said sternly. "That's the one thing you're not allowed to do. You can get angry, you can swear all you want, you can be guilty, but you cannot be out of control. I am not going to let Dick wake up to the news that his brother just came back, only for him to be killed by the man who tried to kill him." She nearly yelled.
"Because that's what's going to happen whether you admit it or not. Slade's a mercenary, a good one at that, if you go in blind with rage, you're never coming out." She finished gravely.
Jason was looking at her now, emotionless. Most of the tension has left him. Barbara was the one that heaving, she was pinching the bridge of her nose, trying to stop the oncoming headache. She let her hand drop, with a heavy sigh, and looked at the sky briefly –as if she's trying to tell whatever god there is out there to help them.
"Look," she started. "I'm angry too, I'm pissed actually, but right now Dick needs us. We can't leave him right now. He's unstable, his emotions are running on high, if he finds out you went after Slade, whether you're still alive or not, he's going to come after you. No one will be able to stop him. We need to talk things through first, when the time comes…" she hesitated slightly. "you can do whatever you want with Slade –provided you're not clouded by anger." Jason face was now marred by disbelief. Does she know what she's implying? He thought to himself. He stumbled back a bit.
This was Barbara, she never says anything she doesn't mean, and she thinks a lot about it too. "You're-you're giving me permission to kill him?" he asked, almost breathlessly, with wide eyes. It's not that he wasn't grateful; hell he is very grateful, but it's just confusing. Barbara is a true bat, she follows the moral code, and this was… weird.
Barbara shook her head. "No, I'm not." She said. "I said you can do whatever you want with him, and I don't know what that is." She explained. She walked closer to Jason, close enough that only Jason will be able to hear what she has to say. "I'm just saying, if push comes to shove, I'm not going to save him." She had a smirk on her face, and Jason wasn't sure whether he should be worried or proud. He decided on being neutral. "So…that's your play, plausible deniability." He thought fondly. Leave it to Barbara to find every loophole.
At this point Jason was in full control of his emotions once again. With everything Barbara said, he thinks maybe she's right –Dick's been through enough as it is. Plus, he's learned his lesson about charging in with uncontrolled emotions…
"Yeah…yeah, okay. We'll go with that." He said finally agreeing.
Barbara gave a sigh of relief and straightened her posture. She offered Jason her hand. "Come on, we've got some planning to do."
Everyone in the waiting room was talking to their own little group. Now that the initial worry has passed, and Dick was stable, they were getting ready to go hunting. Tim was talking with the team. The women were all huddled in one corner, discussing what to do with the boys once this was all over. The men were, of course, discussing on what to do now. And Wally and Roy were talking about something near the end of the hall.
Whereas the adult groups were calm, and controlled, the team was basically ranting about their anger, and plotting what to do with Slade. They may not kill, but they weren't uncomfortable with torture –especially Artemis. Dick was one of her oldest friends, and like all the other, considered him a brother.
"Did any of you know about Slade?" Conner demanded. He's mellowed out through the years, but this was enough to get his temper flaring again. He was personally looking forward to breaking every bone in Deathstroke's body.
Everyone denied. Conner wasn't all that surprised. When a bat wanted to keep something a secret, it stays a secret. "Clearly, none of us knew anything about this. That's not important right now." Zatanna started. The Mistress of Magic's eyes were burning with rage. She's done with crying, she is one of the most powerful magicians on the planet, and she is going to show Deathstroke just how powerful she is.
"We need a plan." She said.
"They've already got that covered." M'gann jerked her thumb over her shoulder, referring to the three men who looked to be discussing battle strategies. Upon seeing this, the team deflated, if the scowl on Bruce's face had anything to say about it, they were only going to follow their plan.
"What do you think Deathstroke did to Dick? I realize now why he changed when he came back." Kaldur started. "He came back colder, more serious. And we never knew why. Dick is not the kind of person who breaks easily, he must have done something." Although they've all known Kaldur for a long time, they will never het used to seeing an angry expression on his face. That was nothing compared to Tim's face though.
It wasn't just contorted with anger; it was basically raw anger. He looked ready to make Slade pay. "Roy said he found out Dick's identity, he looked angrier than he should have though. My guess is; Deathstroke used that against him." Tim clenched his fist at his own statement.
"He used Haly's as a weapon, he manipulated Dick; got into his head." He looked straight at his teammates. "I've seen the reports on Deathstroke, I've done a report on him myself. He isn't the type to just use a threat, he's going to beat his principles into you, he'll destroy you mentally and physically…until he molds you into what he wants." By the end of the sentence Tim excused himself, and a few minutes later Conner heard Time punch the bathroom wall.
Each team member was shocked into silent rage. Murderous thoughts were going through all their heads. "I don't know about you guys, but I don't think jail is enough for the asshole." Artemis said.
"When I'm done with him, Bats just might applaud me." She said. Everyone gave their agreements to that.
"I'm not sure there'll be any left for us once Batman's done with him though." Conner said with a dry laugh. The rest cracked a smile, but it didn't quite reach their eyes. One thing's for sure, Deathstroke will be sorry he ever touched Dick.
