The weather was getting hotter, the grass greener and the days longer. Spring was here. Spring meant a lot of things for a lot people. For Eddy it meant a chance to make money during spring break. For Ed it was time to relax now that football season was over. Eddward saw spring as a time of renewal ,a opportunity to start over with a fresh perspective. Due to the different perspectives of the trio it was no surprise to find them all sitting in Eddward's backyard having a mild argument over what they would be spending their break doing.

"I'm telling you guys,we need to set up a snack stand or something and bring in loads of cash!"

"I dunno Eddy, tween school work and football I'm just tired. Now that football is over I just wanna take a break before I get dragged inta wrestling like last year.

Eddward had been quietly pulling weeds as his friends continued to go back and forth on the subject. The boys had gotten out of school early since it was a half day ,and both Ed and Eddy came straight over to discuss what the three of them would do first during the break from school.

Heh...those two...hmm I have an online class tonight, but we can do something during the day...

"Gentlemen? How about the creek?"

Two heads turned to face Eddward, one grinning like an idiot the other with a look of contemplation.

Ed piped up first thinking that this was a wonderful idea. The creek was always fun and its not like they had time to really plan anything since the boys had been at school all morning.

"Yeah awesome idea Double D. I can run back to my house and grab some floats if ya want."

However Eddy stayed silent. He reluctantly nodded his head in agreement , but you could tell that he wasn't entirely sure if he really wanted to go to the creek.

Eddy had been thinking all weekend about what was going on between him and his two friends. With Ed being in the grade above them, and Double D being in all advanced classes except for gym of course the three have not been able to spend very much time together since Junior High started. What used to be the Three Musketeers of trouble making have now become the three friends who only see each other on the weekends. Eddy had originally wanted the trio to do a scam during spring break or possibly even a prank on all the other kids in the cul-de-sac as a way to reminisce on when they were younger and able to do all kinds of things together all the time. Eddy had been feeling more and more left out everyday that passed as school progressed. Being in junior high to him was much different than being in elementary school, where before they were in the same classes despite his and Double D's difference in grades they were now being given opportunities for newer and bigger things, if they could make the grades necessary . So not only has he lost out on time with Ed being in the grade above them (and of course also being in athletics) but he is also losing out to all the nerds and geeks that Double D hangs out with in class. The entire situation has been making him feel incredibly lonely for the last few months.

As the trio was starting to pick up everything from the backyard that was not in its correct place and deciding what they would be taking to the creek Eddy decided to speak up.

" Double D I would really kind of like to hang out just the three of us, instead of going to the creek. We really haven't been hanging out much lately ."

God I sound like some wimp...I hope they don't think I'm being girly or anything...

Ed gave the diminutive boy a strange look before replying. "Eddy man are you o.k.? You don't normally care about who we hang out with. "

"Yes, Eddy is every thing alright? We can stay here if you want, but I had assumed you would want to do something more active. What would you like to do to occupy our time? "

" Ahhh... Never-mind I was just being stupid. Lets go to the creek and dunk Jimmy and Johnny. Hey maybe Nazz will be there in her bathing suite."

Eddward set aside the compost bucket he had been putting the uprooted weeds in and went to rinse his hands under the spigot on the side of the house a he waited on a response. Ed just sat there starting and waiting, making Eddy mildly nervous. When Double D was done washing his hands he walked over and sat back down next to Eddy.

"Eddy what is wrong? And I will not allow you to cover up your momentary emotional distress with any of your standard faux machismo or an abrasive manner in order to change subject. Ed and I are your best friends and we wish for you to be happy ."

"Look its just ...Ed has all his football and wrestling crap and you have all your nerd junk with your smart people classes and everything. I..I..Dammit I feel like you are leaving me because I'm not good enough to hang any more."

" Eddy, look its not that your not good enough . Its just you only ever want to play around or pull scams. You've been in junior high for almost a whole year now, and you don't care that you are only passing because Double D keeps helping you study. Eddy you don't have to worry about your future, your dad runs a car dealership and will give you a job ,we all know this, but I don't have that option. My dad has a good job but...well I know my dad doesn't have enough money to send both me and Sarah to college so I'm trying to make sure I can get a scholarship. Its probably the only way I'll be able to go...I'm sorry if it seems like I'm pushing you away but I start high-school in a few more months and I have to be good enough to make the team..ya know?"

Eddy looked more confused than before despite being less disgruntled about the situation. "Wha?..So its not because you don't think I'm worth it its cause your worried about high-school already...but were still kids you shouldn't have to worry about that stuff already."

"Eddy, we have different home situations. That's all. "

Both your parents have good jobs and your brother never went to college so they didn't have to pay for that. Judith doesn't work and my dad already has a mortgage on our house.

"I guess, but if we go to the creek today I want the rest of spring break to be just is hanging out. Got it? " Eddy was rumpling hugs yellow shirt in nervousness that his friends would say no.

Through out the conversation Eddward had kept quiet, he didn't feel like he had a right to talk as he had been so immersed in his new classes and trying to help Ed and Eddy with their grades. He realized that although he saw both his friends almost daily he really was not spending time with Eddy outside of studying. He made the decision right there that unless there was nothing he could do about it he would make sure to spend at least one night a week just having "friend time" and not obsessing over his studies.

During Double D's moment of contemplation Ed decided to answer Eddy. "Yeah, Eddy we can hang out all week but lets actually plan somthin and not just sitting around."

"Oh...yeah we can plan a scam or a prank or something, it'll be great!"

Why does it seem like this is going too easy? I know he really is lonely, is it just that Ed and I caved to his demands already? Or is he not wanting to continue discussing emotions and our families.

"Eddy, I can not spend my evenings hanging out all week, but i am available during the mornings and afternoons. Also I suggest that instead of planing a scam or prank you take the time to put together an event similar to the haunted house. Everyone liked going to it, and paid to do it with out getting mad at us or us getting into any trouble. What do you think?"

"Why can't you hang out at night we could have slept over and stuff...?"Ed questioned.

"Yes another thing like the haunted house! That's a great idea we made so much money off of that...but what could we do?"

Should I tell them?...I do not think they will laugh, but I am afraid they will not understand why.

"Well , Ed I am taking some online classes, the classes are extra-curricular so they are going on even during spring break. Eddy, I am not sure what would be a good idea? What do you think people would like to do that we can safely build or set up at a low cost so we can make the money back?"

Both ED and Eddy sat and contemplated for a few minutes when Eddy jumped up with an idea he thought was great

"Hey,what if we set up a water obstacle course? We could do it in one of our back yards and when some one completes the course they can be led to the front yard and we can have a concessions stand. We can charge a fee to be able to play on the course once or a slightly bigger fee for them to do it as many times as they want. we could even do prizes for things like fastest time or least falls and stuff like that. What do you think?"

"Huh? You know it could work. We have two of those huge blow up water slides at my house. Sarah begged for one of them and then put a hole in it the first time she used is and demanded a new one instead of letting dad patch it. Then we would just need a tree rope and maybe a slip and slide right?"

Eddward began thinking of how to set up a obstacle course with the items the trio already had that would be worth people paying to play and still be perfectly safe. He also decided that he would go shopping and get some sodas and waters for the everyone as this was more about fun for him than making money.

" I think we can do it. I have plenty of sprinklers and even some old water guns that we can use as well. Just give me a day or two to plan, I want to make sure there is no way for anyone to get hurt."

The trio of boys spent the rest of the evening planing their obstacle event instead of going to the creek like they originally planned. It was decided they would do the course in the same place as the haunted house so the could open the gate for more room. The plans had begun and Ed ,Edd and Eddy were going to once again make something memorable.
