"So, how was dinner?" Hope asked not looking up from her tablet laying on the penthouse's sofa, her feet moving in the air.
"Peachy" Klaus muttered under his breath already getting rid of his tie, his tone making the young girl tore her eyes away to meet his'.
"Is that blood?!" Her eyes widened comically and if Caroline wouldn't have been standing next to him shaking her head disapprovingly at his behavior earlier then he would've laughed.
"It's not mine" he said with a shrug which made Caroline scoff.
"And does that make it any better?!" Caroline was fuming to say the least, what was supposed to be a quiet and nice dinner with her mother had turned out for the worse when someone lost their temper and lashed out on another someone. She was well aware that Klaus had his reasons, and to some extent they were valid ones, but still!
"I'm lost, did this happened before or after Liz's dinner?" Hope asked moving to sit up, her eyes roaming from Klaus to Caroline and back.
"During!" The blonde said taking off her earings "It was like leaving two children un attended for one minute and when you turn around they're destroying the living room".
"Do not exagerate love, your mother's furniture did not suffered from our little quarrel," he said rolling his eyes pouring himself a drink from the room's minibar "although I can't say the same about your friend".
Caroline whipped her head to face him, her glare sending daggers his way "He is not my friend and that doesn't give you any right to attack him when he clearly didn't mean us any harm!"
"Ofcourse he didn't, he had already tried and failed the last time." He snapped back, not being one to step away from an argument "He was lucky he got away alive!"
"You guys know something? I heard theres karaoke tonight in the lobby so I guess I'll go check it out" Hope said looking between them trying to find the fastest route out of the room. It wasn't the first time they've fought in front of her, and probably it wouldn't be the last one either, but it still didn't make it any less akward when she was stuck in the middle.
Just as easily as she said her goodbyes she slipped away from the room while the voices kept on rising. Thank God she didn't attended the dinner but she was still curious as to what had happened exactly back there.
Earlier that day...
"Love would you stop fussing with my tie? You've been at it for the past ten minutes and I doubt it'll make any didference by now" Klaus said fondly.
Caroline bit back a smile before slapping his chest playfully "Whats wrong with wanting my handsome boyfriend to look even more handsome?"
"If I didn't know better one would think that you want something..." he murmured cupping her chin to bring her face fowards.
The blonde giggled kissing his lips quickly before pulling away leaving behind a pouting hybrid "Klaus we're standing in my mother's porch, we're not doing this here".
"And what do you mean by this?" He said using his free hand to caress her hip through the soft fabric of her dress.
"You know exactly what I mean so save it for later tonight" she said winking before spinning around to open the fromt door not giving him a chance to respond.
"You're killing me love" he mumbled following her inside with a soft hand placed on her lower back.
"Mom we're here!" Caroline called out looking around the empty living room before she heard various steps and hushed voices from the kitchen.
Klaus sped infront of her holding an arm infront of Caroline to which Caroline scoffed and moved past him darting to the kitchen. She was no damsel in distress and she wasn't about to start today.
"Mom are you-?!" She stopped abruptly by the kitchen's threshold, Klaus not a second later behind her "Oh my God...".
"I thought you two were coming later" Liz said looking between her daughter and her guest.
"You do have a death wish don't you mutt?" Klaus growled under his breath from behind Caroline.
"Klaus not now" Caroline murmured holding back a hand to hold Klaus' drawing soothing circles on the back of his hand to calm him down.
"Look Klaus I mean no trouble, I just wanted to talk to the sheriff and maybe Caroline-" Tyler said daring to meet Klaus' murderous glare.
Klaus' eyes flashed golden making Tyler take a step back and Caroline to turn around. She cupped Klaus' face trying to pry his gaze away from Tyler "Klaus remember you're in my mother's house" she murmured.
"I can easily drag him out of here and finish him off" he huffed, Caroline looked back at Tyler "I think its time for you to go".
"No" Liz's voice pierced through the heavy tension in the room, all eyes turned to her. "This is my house and all of you are adults capable of being in the same room without murdering each other!"
"Mom-" Liz cut off her daughter shaking her head "No Care, Tyler didn't come here for a fight neither did the two of you so why don't we all sit down in the living room while I fetch an extra plate for him to join us" her tone leaving no space for arguing.
Klaus bit the inside of his cheek knowing very well when not to cross the line with Caroline's mother but his gaze never wavered from the other hybrid.
"Thank you Liz" Tyler said giving her a grateful nod before stepping past both Caroline and Klaus intl the living room. Caroline's face still a mask of shock.
"Care a little help here in the kitchen" the older blonde said taking out an extra plate for their new guest "And Klaus, my living room rug better be in the same condition that it was before you arrived"
Klaus gave her a hzcurt nod before storming out of the kitchen.
With Klaus out of the room Caroline over to her mother whispering "Are you insane?! How could you ask Tyler to stay for dinner with Klaus here?!"
"Since when have I needed your opinion on who I invite to dinner at my home?" Liz repliede looking around the cabinet for the silverware.
"I know you invite whoever you want but Ty? Seriously?!" The blonde ran a hand through her hair exasperated.
"I didn't invited him, he came to talk to me and you and maybe you should hear what he has to say" she said "Please grab the lasagna from the oven".
"Tyler has nothing to say to me. He has been missing from my life for fifteen years and to be honestly he can leave for another fifteen and I wouldn't miss him" she said bending down to retrieve the still hot casserole.
"You shouldn't be that quick to judge Caroline. I'm not excusing his actions but he had a lot on his plate for someone so young-"
"Mom we were all young and our plates were pretty full if you remember. The difference was that we knew where our priorities were unlike him" Caroline said rather bitterly.
"I know honey" Liz said placing her hand on her daughter's shoulder feeling the tensed muscles underneath before lettingout a deep sigh "He apologized, for leaving you behind and-" she let out an incredulous laugh "and he said he was happy for you".
"What?" Caroline's response almost a whisper, her whole demanor shifting from defensive to vulnerable. Could it really be true that the prideful man she had once loved admitteded she was better with his sworn enemy?
"He wanted to tell you in person but considering how things turned out I doubt he'll have the chance to do so" she kissed her daughter's cheek "It was you who once told me that I shouldn't judge a person by it's past actions because in the end they might surprise you. Boy did Klaus surprised me" she chuckled fondly thinking back to the day Caroline first brought him for dinner "Shouldn't you give him a chance as well?"
Caroline turned around to face her mother "You're right mom, I'll go talk to him-" then a loud crash interrupted them. "Oh God I knew it was too good to be true".l
Both men stood infront of the other, their eyes locked on each other as if they were eying their prey.
"You either don't value your life or are really stupid showing up here looking for mCaroline" Klaus said being the first one to break the spell holding them in place.
"Don't hold yourself so high Klaus, I didn't know you two would be here. I only came to talk to Liz and ask after Caroline, its been a while since I last heard of her" Tyler scoffed.
"Don't play that game with me, we both know you always had a reason behind your every move" he said and his face hardend "And do not think for a second that I've forgotten what you did to my daughter".
"Look Klaus I'm sorry about that but you know that her birth unbalanced the supernatural world. She was destined to become a weapon, even worse than you!" Tyler blurted before he found himself gasping for air and a strong hand squeezing his windpipe.
"She was nothing but a defendless child, a baby" he growled, his eyes were already shinning with that familiar amber tone "You got off the hook too easily and that
needs to change".
"Don't talk to me about morality when you've never hesitated to murder thousands if innocents!" He said as strong as he could with the little air he was getting.
"But never a child and much less target one!" He was quickly losing his patience remembering that day, how he had almost lost his little girl "But as they say, revenge is a dish best served cold".
It was the last thing Tyler heard before he felt the hybrid's fangs pierce his neck. Klaus held nothing back, Tyler had gone unharmed for too long but this time he would give the ypung hybrid everything he deserved.
Tyler choke back a scream as the venom started flowing through his system. Klaus pulled away from Tyler neck, his smirk all bloody before crashing the man against the nearest sofa.
Not a few seconds passed that Caroline and Elizabeth ran into the living room after hearing the loud crash.
"W-what happened in here?!" Liz stammered looking at the scene before her, Tyler gripping the side of his neck where Klaus had bit him laying over the ruins of her old sofa.
"My apologies about your furniture Liz, I'll make sure you get delivered a new one by the end of the week" Klaus said wiping the blood off his mouth with the hem of his dress shirt sleeve prompting a curse from Caroline "But on the other side, your rug remained untouched".
"Klaus what the hell, why did you bit him?!" Caroline screeched, her hands resting on her hips trying not to strangle him.
Klaus rolled his eyes "He had it coming, it was just a matter of time although I was expecting more of a tragic death for him than this" he said thoughtfully, his eyes roaming over the squirming hybrid.
"Ofcourse, only you could think about that" she said exasperated "Of all places to do this, did you really had to do it in my mother's house?! Don't you have an evil cave or something where you can take your victims to torture them without ruining someone else's home?!"
"I promised her I would buy her a new couch, I'm being considerate" he scoffed shaking his head, once could never please her.
Caroline was about to snap back when her mother barreled past her to kneel next to Tyler, a small vial on her hand "Enough! Here drink this" she said facing Tyler.
"Is that..." Klaus trailed off as a frown began showing on his features. He had given her a vial of his blood just in case but he was not expecting her to waste it away on him.
"Yes" Liz said firmly "Are you feeling better?" She asked Tyler holding onto his arm to help him stand up.
"Yes thank you, you didn't had to do that" he said before glaring at Klaus "I came to make peace not to get bitten by your moody ass!"
"Ah it seems like you finally got your tongue back, feeling cocky now that you're healed? I can take care of that" Klaus said taking a step closer before he felt a habd on his chest pushing him back. He looked down at Liz who's glare easily matched his own.
"I think dinner will be postpone until further notice" she said shaking her head, he could only look into her eyes, how they shone with disappointment.
"Mom I'll help you clean this mess up-" Caroline was cut off by her mother "Don't worry sweetheart, I'll take care of it. Good night and send Hope my love" she said pecking her daughter's cheek and nodding at both men leaving no space for arguments.
Klaus bit his tongue holding everything he wanted and needed to say but his pride prevented him from doing so instead he settled for a brief 'good night' and left followed by a very pissed off blonde who was waiting for the right moment to let her thoughts on the matter known.
Present
"You do know how to hold a grudge" thw blonde said throwing her heels by the corner with a little too much force.
"A grudge?" He scoffed indignatly "He tried to kill Hope or have you forgotten about that? Or are siding with the mutt now that he has come back after more than a decade hidden away?" he sneered.
Caroline gripped the first thing she could reach, a vase, and threw it at him but with his enhanced senses it went flying right past his head "Don't pull that shit on me, you know I love Hope like my own but don't think for a second that I will condone your methods!"
Klaus gritted his teeth tugging at the buttons of his bloody dress shirt.
"Stop that or you'll rip off a button, this shirt might be salvable after all" Caroline huffed under her breath walking over to him to help him ease off the buttons "There, done".
"Thank you" he said under his breath and if her hearing wasn't as good as it was she would've missed it. She nodded back taking deep breaths, they needed to calm down or else they would get nowhere tonight and things would only get worse in the morning.
"Look I-" she exhaled sitting next to him on the coffee table "I'm aware I'll never know what you went through when she went missing and you found out about Tyler's plans but" she took his hand in her's squeezing it softly "revenge won't fix all your problems. You murdered Tyler's mother and I suppose that when he found out about Hope well..."
The hybrid ran a hand throughhis short curls "Perhaps your mother's house wasn't the best place to finish the job-" "Definitely not the best place and now you owe her a new living room!" "and yes I do owe her a new living room" he chuckled "but he was too bloody stupid to show up".
"I agree wholeheartedly with that" she said leaning her head against his shoulder, her expresion sobering "He came to apologize for leaving".
"What?" Klaus asked looking down at her, the lines on his forehead visible "How do you know this?"
"He talked to my mom before we got there and basically told her how he was in a bad place when he left and that he was happy for me, that I found happiness even if it wasn't with him" she let out a shaky breath as if taking a weight off her chest "I think he always knew we would end up together even when I didn't know myself".
"I...didn't know" he said toying with her hand "I guess that leaves me looking a bit of an asshole?"
She let out a soft giggle against him "Maybe just the tiniest bit" she said said turning to place a chaste kiss on his covered shoulder "I still love you, you're my asshole".
He smiled cupping her chin leaning down to meet her lips in a soft him "I love you too and I'm...sorry for ruining the evening" he murmured against her lips, his forehead resting against her's.
"Don't worry, I'll call mom later tonight and we'll try this again tomorrow evening." she said nuzzling his cheek.
"Sounds like a plan" he murmured stroking the soft skin of her cheek before chuckling "You may come back inside Hope".
The young girl opened the door sighing in relief "Thank God, that woman downstairs was driving me crazy and I didn't know id it was still safe to come back inside" she said laying down on the couch facing them "So are you guys gonna tell me how dinner went or do I have to call dear Liz?" she smiled wolfishly at the pair.
