Kagura watched her "father" with disdain as he practically hovered over the tiny creature on the futon. How pathetic that even he falls to the whims of a mortal. She smirked wickedly, This shows weakness, perhaps she'll be the key to my freedom. And with a snap of her fan, she walked out of the hidden castle, to feel the wind beneath her. Soon, I will be as free as wind.

Naraku watched, and watched, and watched. Nearly every scar and blemish on her tan flesh was burned into his memory by the time she stirred again. He saw her tiny hands smooth over the soft, feather down blanket before she sat up with surprising grace. Kanna was by her side as well, watching the tattered human try to remain calm. "Maiko," Kanna's soft, whisper like voice pulled the girl out of her trance from petting the blanket. Maiko's face immediately snapped in Kanna's direction, all while Naraku watched from his shadowy place in the room. She put her arm out, as if searching for the voice, and Kanna placed hers out as well.

As their fingers met, Naraku held his breath. Maiko seemed to calm, intertwining her fingers with his oldest daughter. A brilliant smile broke across her scarred face causing his blood to heat. She pushed off her blankets to kneel in front of the void youkai. "Girl!" she chirped happily, placing thin hands onto Kanna's blank face. Naraku pushed forward to protect Maiko, but Kanna did not wish to harm the woman-child. She knew Maiko was seeing her through her hands. She always saw intelligence in the young woman.

"I am Kanna," her whispered tones caused Maiko to quiet. The blind girl seemed to think about the name.

"F-friend, Kanna?" she stammered, also in a whisper. A wave of loneliness crashed onto Naraku as he saw a small flame of hope light her blind eyes.

Kanna looked to her father, than back to the girl in front of her, "Yes. I am your friend, Maiko." Maiko made a face at the name, then pointed to herself. "Yes, you are Maiko now." Smiling, she nodded happily, and slipped back into the covers. "Sleep." And soon, her eyes drifted shut, and Kanna left her side.

A/N I'm soooo sorry I haven't been updating. I recently made a huge move across the country, and am now married. Hopefully, I will have more time to work on stories. Thank you for your patience.
