Hello everyone! Thank you so much for the sweet reviews on the last chapter! It really motivated me to get the next one up as soon as I could. I might not be able to update in the next few days. I have midterms, tomorrow I'm going to a Lady Antebellum concert (SO EXCITED), and then I have a Super Bowl party to go to on Sunday. But I promise to have the next chapter up ASAP!
OMG can we talk about how Quick is going to be legit endgame in the 100th episode and in the episode after that? The duet spoiler! Let's just say that Just Give Me a Reason is my new favorite song and I cried like a baby when I found out. THEIR FIRST DUET EVER! I just hate the fact that we have to wait until late March! UGH.
Well anyways, I hope you like the new chapter :)
The day after Jake and Marley left, Quinn, Puck, and Beth went to Home Depot and picked out a color to paint the walls for the nursery. "Anything in mind?" Puck asked both of them. "It doesn't matter to me, just as long as it isn't ugly."
"Not pink!" said Beth, observing the various array of paint samples.
"I agree," said Quinn. "Maybe purple?"
"No, I don't think she'd like purple," said Beth.
Quinn and Puck exchanged a look. "Oh really?" Puck asked. "How do you know what she likes?"
"I just know," Beth said, sure of herself. She tapped her index finger against her closed lips, thinking hard.
"Yellow! Not like the color of a lemon, a pretty yellow."
"Yeah, I like that," said Puck, looking at Quinn again. "Q?"
Quinn wandered over towards the small yellow section and picked one of the samples. It was a soft baby yellow. "How about this?" Quinn asked, showing it to Beth.
"Perfect!"
Quinn laughed at her daughter's excitement, "Puck?"
"I think it's great," he said.
They got a couple gallons of the color and left the paint isle, picking up rollers, tarps, and paint masks before leaving the store. "You're going to help me paint the room right Monkey Face?" Puck asked.
"Really? You want me to help paint the room?"
"Well you did choose the color after all," he said.
"What about you Mommy? Are you going to help us?"
"I can't sweetie, I shouldn't be around the smell the paint gives off. It's not good for the baby."
"Oh okay," said Beth. "Then yes! I'll be your trusty assistant!"
They got back to the house and Puck and Beth got right to work while Quinn was working herself on a new writing piece. In the room where Puck and Beth were, they started working on the walls. Puck eventually had to do the ceiling himself. The father and daughter finished the room later that night; Quinn finally went up to check on them.
"Did you guys finish?" Quinn asked, stepping into the room slightly, still smelling what was left of the paint fumes.
"Yep, all done!" said Beth.
"Wow, it looks great!"
Beth stood up from where she was sitting and went to Quinn, "Did you finish writing?"
Quinn put her arm around her, "Yes I did."
"Thanks for helping me paint, Beth," Puck said, standing up as well.
"You're welcome," she said, leaning her head against Quinn's side.
"You know what I was thinking?" Quinn asked, looking down at Beth.
"What?"
"Next weekend you should invite Jenny and Rosie over for a sleepover."
"Really?" Beth asked, jumping up and down.
Quinn nodded, "So give them both a call."
"Thank you!" she said, giving Quinn a quick hug before leaving to go call Jenny and Rosie.
"So you're really going to host a sleepover here? Knowing that Jenny's mom is probably going to scope the place out to make sure we're normal and not crazy?" Puck asked, getting closer to Quinn.
"It will be fine," she insisted. "It's just two girls and I can handle Jenny's mom," said Quinn, placing her arms on Puck's shoulder's and around his neck. "You and Beth did a great job and she's right, the baby's going to love it."
Beth went downstairs and reached the phone in the kitchen. Jenny's home number was pinned on the board so Beth picked up the phone and dialed it.
"Hello?"
"Hi, is Jenny there? This is Beth."
"Oh hi Beth, yes Jenny's here. We just finished dinner, hold on one second."
Beth waited a moment before Jenny got on the other end, "Hi Beth!"
"Hi Jenny! I was wondering if you can come over for a sleepover next weekend? I'm going to invite Rosie too!"
"Yeah I would love to come! I ask my mom if I can and I'll let you know."
"Okay, I'm excited!"
"Me too, see you at school Beth. Bye!"
"Bye!"
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
It was Sunday afternoon and Beth decided to make something for the baby's room. It was something she learned how to do at her old school in art class.
Puck was at the grocery store so it was just Beth and Quinn in the house. The eight year old entered Quinn's room where she knew she was, "Mommy?"
Beth saw Quinn resting on the bed; she came in to ask if they had any tissue paper in various colors. Beth walked closer, climbed up on the bed and decided to join her and wait to ask her when she woke up. The young blonde moved closer to her mother but stopped, noticing Quinn's baby bump in the way. Beth furrowed her brow and stared it for a moment. Sometimes she would walk past her parent's bedroom at night in order to use the bathroom and hear them talking to the baby. Usually she heard Puck singing a song or Quinn saying sweet phrases. So if they could talk to the baby, she could too right?
Beth bent her head down towards Quinn's baby bump. "Hi baby, it's Beth. I'm your big sister," she started saying.
"I have to whisper because Mommy's sleeping so I hope you can hear me."
Quinn was awake now but decided to pretend that she was still asleep so she could hear what Beth was saying to the baby.
"At first I didn't like you very much. I didn't want a brother or sister. But now I like you."
Quinn smiled to herself as she continued listening, "Well I have a surprise for you and Mommy. It's for your nursery and I hope you like it once you're here to see it."
"That's all I have to tell you for now. I love you," said Beth, pulling away and resting her head on the pillow beside Quinn who couldn't take the smile off her face. She let Beth get comfortable before gently putting her arm around Beth's small frame and pulling her close.
Puck arrived back home a little later, seeing there was a missed call on the answering machine. The person didn't leave a message so Puck dialed the number back after putting the groceries away.
"Hello Quinn, is that you?"
"No this is Noah Puckerman, her fiancé. Who is this?"
"Oh, hi Mr. Puckerman. I need to speak to Quinn immediately, it's about Beth."
"Well I'm Beth's father, what's going on?"
The woman on the other end sighed, "I'm Angie, Beth's social worker that arranged for Quinn to be Beth's legal guardian after the passing of Shelby Corcoran. There seems to be an issue. It was never made clear to Quinn that she was the secondary option for guardianship of Beth. No one told me that Shelby's sister was the first option and couldn't be reached. Now she has decided to be Beth's guardian."
"What does this mean, she get's to take Beth? Who is this woman? Has Beth ever met her?"
"From what I'm told, she has on several occasions. But a couple years before Shelby's passing, Shelby and her weren't on the best of terms. She was so hard to get in contact with, she only found out about Shelby until recently."
"She can't do this, we're her parents! What's her name?"
"Heather Corcoran. I'm so sorry, this was my mistake."
"Hell yeah it is, does she know who we are?"
"Yes she does which is why she wants Beth, thinking you and Quinn are unfit for raising a child knowing what she knows about the two of you."
Puck wanted to ram his fist into a wall. This all felt like a joke. "Can Quinn or I call you back later? I need to let her know what's going on."
"Yes of course, again I'm so sorry Mr. Puckerman. I will do everything I can to sort this out."
Puck was so angry that she just hung up on her. He slammed the phone on the counter and went upstairs to tell Quinn what was happening. Puck entered the bedroom and found her and Beth sleeping together, Quinn's arm protectively around the eight year old.
Puck breathed in heavily, putting his hand over his mouth. He wanted to cry, watching them, thinking about what he knows and what they don't. How could he tell her, how could they even tell Beth that she might not be theirs anymore?
I'm sorry that this chapter was so short! I'll be sure to make the next one much longer.
DRAMA is all I have to say for the next chapter. Again, I'll try to update as soon as I can.
