Hey there! Next chapter, here we go!
Disclaimer: Naruto not mine, gomen.
Kankuro fell back asleep, he wasn't unconscious, the doctors had assured us, it's just his body trying to neutralize the poison. "We need a poison's expert," I whispered to Baki. "Since these doctors can't do anything for him."
"I know that," Baki replied, his face grim. "And I know just who to go to, but first I need to know who it was that did this to Kankuro."
Said man shifted, groaning, his eyes winced in pain. "It's…him," he muttered, his voice cracking slightly.
"Kankuro…" Baki exclaimed.
Kankuro's response was nothing more than a low muttering that we couldn't make out. I leaned down, his mouth next to my ear. "Who is it?" I whispered slowly.
"S-" he whispered back, wincing. "Sasori of the…Red Sand."
My eyes widened and I jerked away from my boss's brother, turning around to make my way back home, Baki following at my heels. "What is it?" he demanded. "What did he say?"
"I told you the Akatsuki travels in teams of two," I replied, dodging people on the street. "Apparently Deidara's partner was one of our own. Does the name Sasori of the Red Sand ring a bell?"
Baki's eyes widened. "Sasori is Deidara's partner? Then why didn't he lead the attack? He would've known the Sand village better than the blonde one."
"I don't know," I shook my head, pausing for a moment as I came to my front door before throwing it open. "Maybe it wasn't his mission. Maybe he didn't feel like it. I don't know."
I looked around; poking my head into each room I passed. "Where is she?"
"Are you looking for Chiyo-sama?" Baki asked. I stopped without warning, causing the older man to slam into me. "What? Why'd you stop?!"
"Fishing Room," I snapped my fingers, walking through the kitchen and out the back door towards the small building in the back yard.
"I always thought that was just a shed," Baki commented.
"Everyone does," I shrugged, opening the door. We were immediately hit with the loud laughing of my guardian, Chiyo.
"Don't be foolish…sister," Ebizo scolded after a long silence on his part.
"Granny Chiyo," I called quietly, getting both their attentions. "Baki, take it over."
He rolled his eyes. "Elder Siblings," Baki started. "I beg you to assist us."
"We are nothing more than old books left on a high shelf, bound together," Chiyo replied, turning away from the two of us. "There is nothing that we can do now. Now leave us to our fishing."
"An organization called the Akatsuki has taken our Kazekage, the Shukaku," Baki continued. "If this is allowed to lie it will result in a terrible situation."
"This is your generation," Ebizo scolded, sounding just as uninterested as Chiyo. "Do something by yourselves."
"You have strong connections with every village. Those special roots you have in the villages of other countries not allied to us. We cannot gather information by ourselves."
"We no longer have any attachments to this world," Chiyo said, her eyes narrowing in a glare. "Even if there was one besides Kei, it would be that I wish to look upon my grandson's face once more. We have retired long ago."
"Well, Granma," I started, taking a step forward. "That might work out in our favor."
"What do you mean, my child?"
"Your grandson is one of the people who kidnapped Lord Gaara," I replied.
Chiyo's eyes widened.
… … … … … … …
Chiyo stood over Kankuro, her face looking grim. Finally she said, "Poison is my specialty, but even I don't know of this…Sasori's grown a huge amount…"
"What should we do?" Baki asked hesitantly.
"There's only one person who has more knowledge than me in neutralizing poisons," Chiyo replied. "And that would be the Slug Queen, Tsunade, of the Leaf Village. All you can do is call her here now and ask her to examine him. You are allied to Konoha now, aren't you?"
"But…" Baki trailed off.
"Granny, Tsunade is now the Hokage. She can't leave her village that easily."
"And even if she could, it would take three days to get from Konoha to Suna," Baki continued. "We sent a request to the Leaf for a specialist team, but…"
"Humph, stop relying on other people!" Chiyo snapped. "You're all so dependent on your alliances with other countries, you've become careless with your own training, and this is what becomes of it!"
"Becoming dependent…" Baki muttered. "That is by no means what we intended."
"It couldn't be helped," Ebizo stated, looking at Kankuro with sad eyes. "It's because he lost his composure and chased them too far that he's like this…even for a Shinobi…"
Chiyo pulled me out of the room, looking stern. "You worked with Sasori back you-know-when when you were part of the you-know-what, didn't you?"
"I did, but…" I bit my lip, shaking my heads. "He never created antidotes for his poisons, and he made new ones every few months, and even if he didn't, I wasn't allowed to touch them."
"Did you ever let you watch him while he worked?"
"I wouldn't say let, I kinda ignored his protests and just watched him-"
"Did he ever use the same ingredients in his poisons?"
"Um…" I trailed off, walking to the book shelf and picking up the large encyclopedia of herbs. I flipped through it; pointing out each one I saw more than once when Sasori made his poisons. "These were always the bases, but there were always more, always different. His poisons are extremely complex."
"I know that," she shook her head. "Write those down, find out the herbs that can counteract the poisons and write those down too."
"No need," I shrugged. "I read this book a few months after I came here. I memorized all of them-"
"Kankuro!" a familiar voice shouted, accompanied by a bunch of footsteps.
I turned around, a smile stretching across my face. "Temari!"
"Hi, Kei," she managed a smile. "Which room is Kankuro-?"
"Right there," I interrupted, pointing to the door.
A few moments passed, and an angry Chiyo went charging towards one of the Leaf nin, but was blocked by the blond one who threw her back. "Granma, don't go attacking our guests," I scolded at the same time the blond Leaf ninja exclaimed angrily, "Why are you going at Kakashi-sensei so suddenly for? You wrinkled old hag!"
"Hey, watch what you say to-" Baki cut me off by slapping a hand over my mouth.
"I remember that time," Chiyo's eyes narrowed. "That the White Fang of Konoha, my son's enemy…I will get my revenge for him today!" she shouted, running at the gray-haired ninja.
"Ah, no, I'm not…!" he tried to explain.
"There's no use arguing!"
Ebizo and I stepped in front of her, blocking her path. "Sister, take a good look," Ebizo commanded gently. "There's a strong resemblance, but he isn't the White Fang of Konoha."
"Huh?" she squinted her eyes to get a better look at him. "No Wayyyy!" she laughed. "I Was Just Pretending To Be Stupid! Gyahaha!"
"Um…okay, now that that's over," I turned to the Leaf Ninja. "Are any of you specialists in the medical field?"
"I am," a pink haired girl announced confidently, stepping forward. "I'm Sakura Haruno."
"I'm Kei," I nodded. "Glad to know you. Kankuro, he needs to be…"
"Right," she nodded, turning to the doctors. "I'll need several large bowls of water along with dried crushed rose petals."
"Right away," they replied, jumping off to get her the supplies she needed.
