Author's note: Since many of you requested this, and the fact that I did post a summary of my former fic, Behind the Sidelines, here is the summary of what should have been the ending of Forbidden.
Summary: (Continuing after the latest chapter) Kuroko's stay with Seirin rekindled the embers of mutual love and comfort that he once felt with his brothers, years ago. He felt like he was more at home with a basketball team whom he just met than his own family, which made him feel relieved and guilty of the same time. Thankfully, Kagami was there to help him ease this guilt. Kagami helped him realize that he wasn't doing good to his brothers nor himself - especially himself - if he continues to act like a doormat. He tells Kuroko that it's time that the latter pursues his own dreams for once. The only problem: Kuroko doesn't even know if he has dreams for himself.
Eventually, Kuroko meets Takao, who confesses that the GoM had been searching high and low for him. Instead of forcing Kuroko to go home, Takao listens to Kuroko's thoughts and discovers about Kuroko's feelings for his brothers. Takao is surprisingly accepting and asks what Kuroko really wants to do. Kuroko, who is conflicted over his feelings, chooses to stay with Seirin. Takao nods and relays Kuroko's decision to the GoM.
Of course, the GoM do not easily accept Kuroko's decision. They couldn't accept why Kuroko would want to be apart of them. Akashi then confesses the truth about Kuroko's feelings. Akashi insists that Kuroko needs this time apart so he can think about his feelings more clearly. While the rest of the brothers are conflicted, Kise decides to find Kuroko so he could talk to his younger brother. He confesses to the whole family that he is in love with his younger brother but has always been afraid of revealing his true feelings. Aomine tries to stop Kise but realizes that he couldn't do anything because he would be a hypocrite if he did.
The following weeks were a rollercoaster ride for the GoM. Akashi still insists on rejecting Kuroko's feelings when he wants to reciprocate. He is still deathly afraid of his father's threat and the fact that he may not give Kuroko the happiness that his little brother deserves. Midorima is shocked at this new road that is presented to him. A flashback reveals that Midorima did harbor some feelings for Kuroko, which had been dismissed and forgotten as they grew older. He begins thinking of his relationship with Takao and how it's a manifestation of his desire to be with Kuroko.
Aomine is more or less confused on the whole situation. He thinks that he likes Momoi, but then again, he has never been sure. All he knows is that he has never felt a twinge of jealousy when Kuroko was always with Momoi. And then, it hits him. Aomine has always been in love with Kuroko all along and confused his feelings with Momoi. On the other hand, Murasakibara is quietly observing how Kuroko's feelings have changed the whole family dynamic. He is not sure if he has romantic feelings for Kuroko, but what he does know is that he wants Kuroko beside him at all times. He doesn't like how Seirin is currently hogging Kuroko's attention.
Meanwhile, Kuroko is having a blast at Seirin. Although he's only been with Seirin for a short time, he's starting to see Kagami in a new light, especially after discovering that they were pen pals all along. Kuroko then begins to think that maybe, it wouldn't be so bad to give Kagami a chance. But when he does, Kise comes and blurts out his confession. When the rest of the GoM hears of the news, the brothers quickly confess their feelings as well.
Kuroko's moment of happiness quickly turns to one of hurt and confusion. For years, he has expressed his feelings for his brothers and when Kuroko finally tries to give up on them, they come and say that they love him back. And not to mention that Kise and Midorima have their own lovers. Kagami is insistent on having Kuroko's brothers leave, but Kuroko is not sure if this is what he really wants. He remembers Takao's words and Kagami's question about his dreams - and he realizes: it is still his dream to be with his brothers. Kuroko tells everyone that he wants to start over, but starting over means that Kise and Midorima will have to let go of their lovers, which they do.
While it may look like Kuroko's conflict is over, Saito and Hanako have finally come home. Unknown to the brothers, Saito and Hanako's relationship had been rocky ever since Hanako found out about Saito's past affairs. However, she turns a blind eye for the sake of her child. When Saito discovers that Akashi hasn't let go of his feelings for Kuroko, he turns all his ire towards the younger brother. This becomes the last straw and demands a divorce. She takes Kuroko with her to America, but not before saying that he'll come back for his brothers. Kuroko spends his high school at America and eventually reunites with Kagami, who chooses to finish high school in Japan so he can take college in America.
During Kuroko's absence, the GoM turn a new leaf. Akashi has decided to stray away from the Akashi tradition, choosing his own career. While he loses his inheritance, the rest of his brothers got his back. Murasakibara chooses to pursue culinarily, Aomine enlists to the police academy. Kise goes to flight school and Midorima attends medical school. Kise and Momoi have been understanding with each other and remained friends (though they had a period where they didn't talk to each other at all). But Midorima has never seen Takao again after the break-up, which he understands.
The fic ends with the GoM waiting for Kuroko (and Kagami) at the airport. Kuroko is in tears when he sees his brothers again and rushes to them to give an embrace. And while Kagami and the GoM don't really get along that fine, Kuroko is happy. While the rest of them aren't related any longer (due to the divorce and the fact that the GoM are adopted), this may be what they need to put their relationship to the next level. The end.
Backstories:
*Similar to the canon, Seirin wins against Teikou during the championship. The taste of defeat is exactly what the GoM needed to realize the improvements that they needed to do to themselves.
*The Seirin team didn't meet during high school; Hyuuga, Izuki, Riko, Kiyoshi, Koganei, Mitobe, and Tsuchida are actually childhood friends. Hyuuga, Izuki, and Riko met in the same kindergarten and quickly became friends. They eventually meet Kiyoshi, who had run away from his abusive parents to find his grandparents at this location. The four of them quickly became friends after bonding through basketball. Hyuuga, Izuki, and Riko eventually help Kiyoshi find his grandparents, to which Kiyoshi was eternally grateful for. Later on, Koganei, Mitobe, and Tsuchida join their circle of friends. They decided to pursue the same middle school and high school together.
After graduation, the Seirin team still keep in contact with each other. Currently, they are trying to help Koganei find a girlfriend since he's been dumped 17 times. Izuki's puns did not help.
*After the break-up, Takao is in a disarray. He doesn't want anything to do with Midorima. And that's understandable. Eventually, he graduates high school and takes medicine. Coincidentally, he and Midorima enrolled in the same university. But at that point, it didn't matter anymore. Takao had already moved on.
While Momoi and Kise remained friends with each other, their friendship had never been the same. They were more of acquaintances at this point. She chooses to study in America, though in a different state where Kagami and Kuroko live. She eventually meets Himuro and the two started dating.
*In his teenage days, Saito has always been enamored by Midorima's mother. Since he was an Akashi, he believed that she would eventually fall for him. But, she didn't and chose his best friend instead, Murasakibara's father. The relationship didn't work out on the first try and soon they formed their own families with someone else, but destiny brought them together again...until their untimely end.
A part of why Saito had never been able to fully settle with any woman (and cheat on every occasion) is his lingering feelings for Midorima's mother. He had believed she was perfect for him so he couldn't understand why she didn't choose him. He had always tried to move on, but her death had prevented him from properly doing so.
After his divorce with Hanako, Saito will continue with his vices. He may not move on until further later in his life.
What I liked about this fic: It's been a roller coaster of a ride as I write this fic. I guess you could say that this fic really opened my eyes to writing and made me want to pursue a writing career. At the same time, it also made me realize the things that I needed to improve on. In addition, Forbidden helped me meet new people in the fandom, which was really nice.
What I didn't like about this fic: It's melodramatic and had so many grammatical errors. I think I could forgive myself for that since I wrote this like, what, four years ago? But then again, I wished I could've done better. Also, some chapters were unnecessarily long and it would be the pain to cut them out.
My deepest regret is probably adding that stupid OC in the fic. And making all the jealous female background OCs flat.
Will I delete or put it for adoption: Nope. This fic holds a sentimental value to me. It may not be the best, but it's still my hard work. So I'm just putting it where it is - My Stories bin.
Can I make a fic that's inspired by this one: Go ahead. However, there is a fine line between 'being inspired' and writing so closely to the plot line of the fic. The latter is plagiarism. So tread carefully I guess.
So, this is it? Yeah. Thanks for your continuous support for this fanfic. I'm still lingering around the fandom, publishing one-shots and there, so if you're interested you might want to check those out.
