Chapter 14: It Couldn't Be Hidden Forever

The week went by rather uneventful. Kagome and Sesshomaru continued to train as they awaited the arrival of the letter telling them when and where to meet for their battle with Naraku.

Kagome was getting a lot stronger. She had already mastered her poison whip and poison claws. Now they were working on her speed and senses. She hadn't quite gotten used to the fact that she had the speed of a demon and much sharper senses now.

Instead of training in the dojo, Sesshomaru thought it would be good to use the Western Lands to their advantage. There were a lot of sights, sounds, and smells all around them that would help aid in Kagome's lessons.

"Are you ready? We will start off slow then gradually increase in speed. And while we are running, I will point out different sounds and smells and you will have to name them."

Kagome nodded. She was happy to not be in the bulky kimonos that she had been wearing lately. Now she was in something much more forgiving and free that would allow her to reach her full potential with her new senses.

"Alright, Sesshomaru. Let's do this." Kagome smiled at Sesshomaru, taking off in a light jog when he did. The point of this was to keep her running along side of Sesshomaru, keeping the same pace as him.

The jog didn't last long. Sesshomaru gradually increased his speed as they went, making Kagome push herself harder and harder to keep up. Once she tapped into her new demon powers, and understood that they were there to stay, her speed and senses would come naturally, as if they were there her entire life.

They were now running at a pretty decent pace, faster than a human can run, but not quite fast enough to be at demon speed. Sesshomaru started pointing out smells and sounds, making Kagome point them out. He pointed out 25 different sights and sounds, all of which Kagome was able to tell what they were.

Sesshomaru decided to increase his speed, dipping into the demon speed. Kagome had a slight problem at first keeping up but once she tapped into her demon powers, the speed came naturally. Now it was her who sped past Sesshomaru, laughing.

"I think I'm faster than you, Sesshomaru!" Kagome yelled back at Sesshomaru as she laughed.

Sesshomaru laughed and picked up the pace. "Oh, do you think so? Well I think you need to use your powers more. Otherwise I wouldn't be able to do this!" With that, Sesshomaru lunged at Kagome, wrapping her up in his arms and falling to the ground back at the castle with her landing on his chest, his arms still wrapped around her.

Both shared a small laugh, catching their breath. They had made a nice circle around the lands and made it back to the castle. Once they both had caught their breaths, they got up, dusted themselves off, and stood there looking at each other.

"No fair! I wasn't expecting you to do that, Sesshomaru." Kagome playfully pouted.

Sesshomaru smiled. "Lesson learned: be prepared for anything and everything, no matter who or what is around you."

Kagome smiled and shook her head. She was about to speak when the same guard who had brought them the letter the first time, brought them a second one.

"Lord Sesshomaru. My apologies. But this letter has just arrived for you." The guard bowed deeply, handing Sesshomaru the letter.

Sesshomaru took the letter and read it.

'Sesshomaru

I see you have taken in Kagome and are training her in her new powers. No matter. You can train as long and as hard as you want, but I will still be there to hurt you. Ready yourself. I will see you and your brother at my castle in two weeks time. Don't be late.

Naraku'

Sesshomaru dismissed the guard then turned to Kagome.

"Looks like we have two weeks to prepare you for battle. The battle will not be easy, as you already know. But now that you have changed, Naraku may attack with something stronger and more powerful than he ever has before. We have to be prepared for anything." Sesshomaru tucked the letter into his kimono.

"I know, Sesshomaru. I'm ready. Let's do this."

The days had gone by rather fast, Kagome growing stronger and stronger each day and the two growing closer and closer. Sesshomaru and Kagome had decided that they would meet up with Inuyasha and the gang a few days before the battle, then all go to the castle together, hoping to avoid a sneak attack on one of them.

As the time grew closer, not only did Kagome get stronger, but she also got more nervous. Normally she wouldn't be scared of a battle, she's been in plenty. But this time she was a different person and she didn't want anyone to have to watch her and keep her safe.

Dinner was finished, both Kagome and Sesshomaru had gotten cleaned up and ready for bed. They met back up in Sesshomaru's study to go over plans and what possibly to expect from this battle with Naraku.

Kagome was sitting on the couch while Sesshomaru was at his desk going over last minute paperwork. Kagome was nervous and scared, very scared.

Sesshomaru looked up from his paperwork. "I know you're scared. I can't say there is nothing to be afraid about, but I know that you don't need to be afraid. I will be right there besides you. I won't let anything happen to you."

Kagome was looking down at her pajamas, playing with the fabric to try and keep herself occupied.

"I know, Sesshomaru… But it still doesn't change the fact that I'm still scared. What if I mess up? What if I cause you or one of my friends to get hurt? I don't want to be the reason you or any of them are unsafe…"

Sesshomaru finished his work then stood from his desk. "Kagome.. If I was worried about being unsafe or you hurting me, I wouldn't have trained you as detailed as I did. I would have made sure you didn't come to the battle. Do not worry about me or them. We will all be fine. Focus on you and remember your training and everything will be fine."

Sesshomaru walked over to Kagome. He knelt down in front of her, cupping her chin in his hand and gently forcing her to look at him when she turned away.

"Everything will be okay." With that, Sesshomaru leaned in and kissed Kagome.

Kagome was shocked at first when he kissed her, she still hadn't gotten used to the fact that this was actually happening between them, but she was glad that it was.

When Kagome kissed him back, the kiss deepened. Over the last few weeks, the two had grown considerably closer, their feelings stronger between them. The kiss lasted what felt like hours, but was only a few minutes. Sesshomaru pulled back slightly, just enough to look into Kagome's eyes.

"Let's go to bed." Sesshomaru could sense the feelings Kagome had and was inwardly happy that she was feeling the same as him.

When Kagome nodded and agreed, she went to stand when Sesshomaru shook his head and transported them to his room, to his bed to be exact. Kagome was on her back, Sesshomaru hovering over her.

Kagome looked up at Sesshomaru, a light blush appearing across her cheeks. Was this actually going to happen?

Sesshomaru dipped his head back down and kissed her again, this time much deeper than in the study. His tongue brushed gently across her lips, wanting access. Kagome parted her lips, allowing him access. Their tongues danced around each other, playing together. As they kissed, Sesshomaru's hands roamed up and down Kagome's side, gently massaging her body. Kagome had her hands rested on his chest, holding the fabric of his shirt in her hands.

After a moment, Kagome gently pushed back on Sesshomaru, allowing the two some space so they could breathe.

"Sesshomaru… Are you sure about this..? Should we really be doing this…?" Kagome looked him in the eyes. Of course she wanted to, but she wasn't sure if they should. She didn't want to then him turn around and hurt her.

Sesshomaru leaned back down and gave her a gentle kiss. He pulled back, knowing why she was afraid.

"I'm not going anywhere, Kagome. Not now, not ever." With that he leaned in and kissed her again.

Kagome smiled and kissed him back. That's what she wanted to hear. As they kissed, her hands roamed across his chest as his hands roamed across her body. Kagome decided to rest her hands on the back of his neck as his hands found the bottom of her shirt and slipped underneath.

Sesshomaru laid down next to Kagome, pulling her close to him, both breathing heavily. Sesshomaru kissed Kagome gently before sitting up in bed.

"Go get cleaned up. I will have a maid come and clean the room. When you're done, will you join me back here for bed?"

Kagome smiled and sat up with him. "Of course." She gave him a gentle kiss before grabbing one of the non-soiled sheets and wrapping it around her. She got up off the bed and walked to the bathroom where Mina was already waiting for her.

Once she was cleaned up, Mina lead Kagome back to Sesshomaru's room. Mina bowed before leaving, returning to her previous work. Kagome gently knocked on the door, she didn't feel comfortable just opening the door and walking in.

"You don't need to knock. Go ahead and come in." Sesshomaru was already in bed when Kagome opened the door and walked in, closing it behind her. She walked over to his freshly changed bed and got in. She got comfortable when Sesshomaru wrapped his arms around her, pulling her close to him.

"Goodnight, Kagome."

"Good night, Sesshomaru." With that, the two fell asleep.

Morning came and Kagome and Sesshomaru were ready to go. They hopped onto the back of Ah-Un then took off towards Kaede's village. It was around dinner time when they finally landed at the outskirts of the village. Sesshomaru got down then helped Kagome down. The two grabbed their things, then let Ah-Un take off once more to head back to the castle where Shippo and Rin had stayed.

The two started walking into the village when they were suddenly stopped by Inuyasha. He was standing in their path, glaring at the two of them.

"What the hell, Kagome?! HIM!?" Inuyasha yelled, pointing at Sesshomaru.

"Inuyasha? What are you talking about?" Kagome looked between Inuyasha and Sesshomaru, trying to figure it all out.

"Don't play dumb, Kagome. I can smell him all over you!"

That's when Kagome put it together. He could smell them from last night. She didn't plan on him finding out this way. She took a step towards Inuyasha as he took a step back.

"Inuyasha... Don't yell at me for this… This isn't how I wanted you to find out. You made your choice, Inuyasha. You chose Kikyo. So you can't get mad at me for making my choice either." Kagome spoke, trying to reason with him.

Kagome knew that Inuyasha would find out, she just didn't think it would be this soon. She didn't even put two and two together to realize that he'd be able to smell it all over them.

"Don't bring Kikyo into this!" Inuyasha was getting furious. Yeah he made his choice and chose Kikyo, but that didn't mean she got to run off and make a choice of her own.

"Why shouldn't I bring her into this, Inuyasha? I thought that you had wanted to be with me, but I was wrong when I walked up on you and her. You proposing to her. Then the look on your face told me all I needed to know. You chose her. So tell me again why that means I can't go off and make my own choice? Wait, I know why. Because that choice isn't you." At this point Kagome was starting to get angry.

Sesshomaru sensed her anger and walked up behind her, placing his hands gently on her shoulders. "Kagome, calm down. Breathe. Do not let your control slip."

Kagome instantly relaxed at the touch of Sesshomaru. She shook her head, looking at Inuyasha.

"It's not worth arguing about. You made your choice, I made mine. Now we have more important things to deal with than to stand here and argue about this. We have a battle with Naraku to deal with." With that, Kagome shrugged out of Sesshomaru's hands, walking into the village and into the familiar hut to see her friends, leaving the brothers alone with each other.

"Leave her alone, Sesshomaru. She's mine." Inuyasha glared at his brother.

"If she was yours, you would have claimed her. And last I checked, you chose the dead priestess." With that, Sesshomaru walked into the village as well, following behind Kagome. Kagome was right, now wasn't the time to argue.

Inuyasha stood there fuming for a few moments before storming into the hut. He plopped down in his usual spot as Kaede served up dinner. Everyone was silent, able to hear the altercation outside.

Once dinner was finished and everything was cleaned up, they began to discuss battle plans. They needed to make sure they were ready. They were heading to Naraku's castle tomorrow after all. They didn't have time to argue about who slept with who and why.
