A.N. I'm not sure if this is my best chapter ever but I needed something to carry us over to the next chapter which will be way more exciting! Please review and let me know what you think!
Max P.O.V.
Lying in the hammock with Fang had to be one of the most peaceful moments of my life. Of course nothing ever stays peaceful for long. Leave it to Iggy to interrupt a perfect moment.
Max and Fang sitting in a tree, k-i-s-s-i-n-g." He sang from the back porch. Luckily Ella elbowed him in the ribs before he could continue.
"Hey Max, Carlisle sent us to come find you. He said he needed you in his office as soon as you get a chance…" Ella uttered, her face creased with worry. That had me out of the hammock in 2 seconds flat.
"What's up?" I questioned, wanting to know what I was going to be walking into. She just shook her head and shrugged, giving me much less information than I would have liked.
Expecting the worst, I rushed inside and straight to Carlisle's office. I barged in without a knock and found him sitting at his desk looking concerned. If my heart hadn't stopped yet, it did then.
"Carlisle…" I began tentatively. "What happened? Is everyone alright?" My mind immediately flashed to all the worst case scenarios involving the flock dying. Carlisle seemed taken aback my facial expression.
"No, no body is hurt. I got a call from the Quileute's…" He paused, gauging for my reaction. Apparently my look of confusion was enough to make him elaborate. "The tribe of werewolves that you… met yesterday." He stopped again, as if that explained everything.
"What am I, supposed to guess what they said? What's going on?!" I raised my voice, thoroughly frustrated with the lack of information.
"Sam insists that he wants to meet the rest of your family. He and Seth will be joining us for dinner tonight…" Carlisle looked anxious again and I realized for the first time he was worried about my reaction. A breath of relief left my lungs.
"You really need to work on your skills of breaking bad news! I thought somebody died!" I exclaimed, still trying to get my heart rate to a normal level. Carlisle furrowed his eyebrows before responding.
"Two werewolves are coming over for dinner to meet your family and you're not worried?" He questioned, trying to make sense of me. He obviously didn't understand what things I see as a danger.
"Well it's not the best news I've gotten all day but seeing as I was expecting you to tell me the world was ending it's not that bad. Besides, my flock could beat two wolves any day. So what time will they be arriving?" My heart rate was almost back to normal and I was almost excited to see the wolves again. Well, I was almost excited to see Seth. Sam wasn't very high on my likeable list right now.
"They'll be here around five," Carlisle started, pulling himself together. "and Edward and Bella should be here around four." I glanced at the clock to find it was already almost two. I guess I had been in the hammock longer than I thought.
"Well then, if you don't have any other earth shattering news I should probably go fill everyone in." I joked, trying to lighten the mood.
"Of course, I won't keep you any longer. Sorry about the scare…" I could tell he felt at least a little bad about it but from the smile on his face he wouldn't lose any sleep. With a roll of my eyes I strolled out to find the flock.
Fang had already gathered them in our room and Angel was the only one who didn't seem worried. She apparently hadn't shared the news with everyone else so I was quick to explain what was going on. Gazzy was the first to speak up.
"So you're sure that they won't be a threat?" He inquired, being uncharacteristically serious. I took a moment to consider the question before responding.
"No, I'm not. But I do know that they won't be more of a threat than anything we've faced in the past." I encouraged, diminishing their fears. It seemed to work as Nudge spoke up.
"So are they cute? I mean in human form of course! In wolf form they probably look like big cute puppies. Give us some details Max!" She whined. I almost wanted to tell her they were really ugly but that would be a lie.
"We were a little busy fighting to pay attention to if they were cute or not." I grumbled. "They'll be here at five and you can decide for yourself." I concluded. She looked like she wanted to say more but held her tongue for once.
Just then we heard a knock on the door. After a glance at Fang who shrugged his shoulders I hopped up to open the door. On the other side were Alice and Rosalie both with an arm load of shopping bags.
Without waiting for more invitation, Alice swept her way into the room, dropping her bags on the bed. Rosalie followed, shooting me an apologetic look. Alice spun and glanced around the room at everyone.
"Alright," Alice squealed excitedly. "Boys you may go, it's time for us girls to have girl time!" Iggy and Gazzy snickered and shot out of the room with Fang following close behind. That left my mom, Ella, Angel, Nudge, and I trapped in a room with Alice and Rosalie.
"Alice…" I queried. "You have exactly ten seconds to tell me what's going on." I threatened, hating the feeling of being ambushed.
"I'm helping you girls get ready of course! I left around eleven to go shopping and now we have less than two hours to get ready!" I stared at her as if she'd just grown two heads.
"You see," I began, edging towards the open door. "As fun as that sounds, I'm supposed to help Esme… with something important…" Unfortunately Alice flew past me and shut the door before I could escape. Stupid vampires.
"Maaax!" Alice whined, giving me a head ache. "I picked you out the cutest clothes! You have to at least try them on." Who knew the pixie could be so demanding. With a huff I plopped back down on the chair. Looks like I wasn't getting out of this easy. It couldn't be that bad though, could it?
After less than five minutes of Alice pulling out the clothes she picked out I was about to rip my hair out. Angel and Nudge has slipped into the bathroom to change into their ensemble while Rosalie helped my mom and Ella pick out their outfits. That left me with Alice.
She was currently trying to convince me that the strapless dress and jacket would look great on me. I'm pretty sure the dinner tonight wasn't even supposed to be this formal.
"Alice," I attempted to contain my frustration. "I'm going to say this one more time, there is not a corner of hell that I would wear that thing in. Capisce?" I snapped. With a grumble she returned the dress to the bag and pulled out some slightly less offensive clothing.
After an hour she had us all dressed like her dolls and we were getting our make-up done. Well, everyone else was getting their make-up done. I drew the line and told her if she came near me with that think I was jumping out the window.
Ella was in a cute country chic outfit that consisted of a cream white skirt with a blue jean button up shirt. Her favorite part seemed to be the cow girl boots that went along with it.
Angel wore a simple pink dress with a bedazzled black belt and black converse. The light weight black jacket hid her wings surprisingly well.
Nudge had opted for a white crop top with a knee length floral print skirt. Even with the denim jacket I was at a loss at how her wings were still concealed. She also wore brown combat boots that were actually really cute.
My mom's form fitting grey dress made her look years younger and you could tell she was happy with it. I guess not everyone hates dressing up.
After a lot of persuasion, I had been allowed to wear pants. They were light wash skinny jeans that were probably way too expensive to be worth it. Alice paired them with a maroon sweater that had some sort of rustic design on the back. I also got lucky enough to wear combat boots similar but not identical to Nudge. Over all I didn't hate the outfit, I just resented being treated like a Barbie.
By the time Alice and Rose were done doing make-up it was 3:45 and time to go downstairs to wait for the infamous Bella. We met up with the boys in the living room and received many compliments. Luckily Fang just nodded approvingly because if he had said anything else I probably would have turned tomato red.
The Cullens all kept their distance so we didn't feel crowded while we waited. We attempted to make conversation among ourselves but we all became silent when we heard the engine of a car getting closer.
It was agony trying to sit still as we listened to the car park and footsteps approaching the front door. I couldn't take it anymore so I stood and walked into the foyer to greet them when they came in.
I braced myself for Edward and his vampire girlfriend to walk through the door but was extremely taken aback by the reality. Trailing right behind Edward like a lost puppy was a beautiful but totally human girl. Edward stared at me questioningly as he gripped Bella's hand and pulled her close to him.
"Everyone, I'd like you to meet Bella, my girlfriend." Edward introduced, smiling in a way that didn't reach his eyes. He was probably still cautious of us which is understandable since I could snap her like a twig.
That thought got me a very severe glare from Edward which I'll admit was warranted. 'Don't worry' I thought to Edward 'I wasn't making a threat, just stating a fact' I grinned devilishly at him. He brushed off my comments and looked over at Esme as she entered.
"Bella!" Esme exclaimed, rushing to hug her. "It's been far too long! Edward has been hogging you all to himself!" Bella seemed uncomfortable with all the attention but seemed to put up with it to humor Esme.
Who knows, I might actually end up getting along with this girl. Put at ease by the fact that Bella posed pretty much no threat to my family, I figured it was time for introductions.
"I'm Max," I stepped forward, purposefully not extending my hand. I never have had the best manners but I also don't meet people that aren't evil very often so I figured its okay. "And this is my fl- family. , Ella, Fang, Iggy, Nudge, Gazzy, and Angel." I pointed to everyone and listed then so fast I doubted she'd remember who was who.
"It's nice to meet you." Bella mumbled, practically trying to melt into the ground she was so uncomfortable. "Edward has told me a lot about you. I'm Bella" She introduced, as if we didn't all already know who she was.
"It's nice to meet you" Iggy spoke up. "You look absolutely gorgeous." He grinned. The whole flock was struggling to contain our laughter as Bella mumbled an extremely awkward thanks.
Edward leaned down and whispered something in her ear, probably explaining the whole blind thing. It took her a moment to finally understand the joke but luckily when she did her face brightened with a real grin. At least she has a sense of humor.
"Shall we go sit in the living room?" Carlisle spoke, startling me a little since I hadn't even realized he was in the room. Everyone nodded in agreement and we all meandered into the other room.
Because their house is so ridiculously big, everyone had room to sit with several spots still open. Stupid rich vampires. Easy conversation started to flow and it became obvious that Edward had already shared a lot about us with Bella. At least we wouldn't have to answer a bunch of questions. Instead, I decided to spend my time interrogating. We still have an hour until the wolves show up; I wonder how much information I can obtain in that amount of time…
A.N. Thanks for sticking with me! More wolves in the next chapter along with some imprinting!
