Chapter 14
I slip the first dress I see over top of my swimsuit and then find Alice and Jasper whispering quietly together on the couch.
"Alice!" I exclaim, my voice coming out breathless.
My aunt's face falls as soon as she sees the fear evident across my face. "Renesmee, what's wrong?"
"It's Jacob he-,"
"Did he hurt you?" Uncle Jasper stands up quickly.
"No, no," I hold my hands out to him; I can't even imagine the preposterous idea. "Nothing like that. We were just in the hot tub and he heard someone from the pack and had to rush away really quickly. He seemed worried."
"Oh, well," Alice holds up her finger and then her eyes do that blank stare thing that I have grown so used to. After a moment she seems to break out of it and then she lets out a breath of relief, which is funny considering she doesn't breathe. "Don't worry. Whatever it was I'm sure it was a false alarm. I've been watching for the vampire who hurt you, if it was him I would have seen it."
I place my finger in my mouth and begin to bite it nervously. "That doesn't really make me feel better," I mumble. "He seemed really worried."
"Don't worry," Alice is at my side in half a second. "I'm sure it was nothing."
"Do you want me to go and see if I can figure out anything?" Jasper asks.
I sigh and then let myself drop into the couch. "No don't worry about it. I'm sure it would just make things worse if they smelled a vampire mixed in with whatever the heck is going on."
"Alright," Alice sighs after a moment. "Do you want me to stay with you? We could watch a movie? Or online shop; retail therapy is always helpful!"
I try to smile. "No it's okay. I think I'm just going to wait for Jacob to come back. Do you know when everyone else will be home?"
"I don't know," Alice sighs. "They needed to hunt to be prepared in case anything happened with the guy who attacked you."
I roll my eyes. "You guys worry too much."
"You were attacked," Jasper says in that way that leaves room for no argument.
I nod my head and then rest it against the couch cushion. "You guys can go. I'll be alright."
"Okay," Alice offers me one of her sprightly smiles. "We were just going to visit the garden now, weren't we?"
The corner of Jasper's lip pulls up just a little. I try not to gag. I think I know why my aunt and uncle spend so much time in the "garden" in the attic; the thought makes me shiver.
"Have fun," I croak, though I can't completely hide the disgust in my voice.
As soon as they are gone I realize that I just can't stay here. My knees are shaking, my hands are quivering, my entire body is on high alert. I need to know what is going on, I need to know if Jacob is safe, and I need to know right now.
I force myself to wait a few minutes after Alice and Jasper leave to be sure that they aren't listening anymore, and then I slip out the back door. It is colder than I thought it was, so I wrap my arms tightly around my chest and stifle a shiver. As soon as my feet press into the wet grass I realize that I probably should have picked up shoes, but it is too late for that now. I remember the general area in which we heard the wolf howling and head in that direction. The branches and leaves covering the forest floor dig into my feet and I wince; I don't look down because I am sure if I do I will see blood.
I reach a small clearing and then look around. Although I am half-vampire, I definitely do not have the gift of night-vision. I try to listen for any familiar sounds but come up short except for a few animals. I sigh and then look towards the thick branches of the tee. Before I can talk myself out of it I latch my hands onto the thick oak and begin pulling myself up. I go about halfway and then look around; from here I am able to make out the lights shining through the windows of my home, which gives me a better sense of direction, for I know that north from there is where I heard the howl. I lower myself down, and as soon as my feet hit the ground, someone grabs my arm.
I scream and jump away, although, even if I can't see in the dark, I do recognize the warmth radiating off of the person's skin.
"Who- Embry?"
"Renesmee," He speaks between gritted teeth. It is most definitely not Embry.
"Paul!" I gasp, relief in my voice. "What is wrong with you? You scared me half to death?"
"What is wrong with me?" His grasp tightens around my arm. "What the hell is wrong with you? I nearly killed you!"
I roll my eyes. "Oh please. I would have killed you."
Paul's eyes narrow and his grip tightens. I should know better than to test Paul when he is so fresh off of phasing. Actually, he seems so fresh that-
"Paul!" I screech and pull away from him. I slam my eyes so tightly together that white specks spot on my eyelids. "Are you naked?"
"Yes I am naked!" He shakes me. "I was a werewolf about five seconds ago!"
"Put your clothes on!" I cry.
"Renesmee?"
I open my eyes again and just barely am able to make out Jacob's figure, thankfully in clothes, walking towards us. He notices Paul… And then he notices that Paul doesn't have any clothes on. He must take my terrified demeanor as being in distress and not disgust, and then he notices the way that Paul is practically cutting off the circulation in my arm. And then he jumps to conclusions.
"Get away from her!" He growls, and his eyes take on such an animalistic state that I am momentarily paralyzed.
I come back pretty quickly when Jacob lunges at Paul.
"Jake!" I gasp. "Jacob stop! Stop!" I jump between the two of them and look from Jacob to Paul. "It's not what it looks like!"
"What is going on?" He growls.
"What is going on is your little girlfriend over here decided to take a midnight walk in the woods."
"Hey!" I narrow my eyes at him. "I was not just strolling around. I was looking for him!" I point at Jacob and now Jacob just looks really confused.
"Well why don't you have any clothes on?" He asks the question that both of us are kind of wondering.
"Paul detaches his arm from mine and then crosses his arms overtop of his chest. "Well, I was in the air lunging at her when I realized that the bloodsucker was actually your bloodsucker. I changed back to human mid-jump. If you would have preferred that I just killed her I really still wouldn't mind."
I roll my eyes and Jacob visibly relaxes.
"Paul," He sighs, "Go away. I've got it from here."
I smile smugly. "Go get some clothes on maybe?"
"Be quiet Renesmee." Jacob basically snarls at me. "I'll deal with you in a moment."
"Have fun," Paul shoots me a wicked grin and if looks could kill he would drop dead. He jumps into the air and I look away just to be sure that I don't see something I will regret.
"Okay." I shift my gaze back to him to see holding his nose between his palms. "What the hell is wrong with you?"
"Paul already asked me that," I grumble.
"Well I am asking you it!" Jacob screams and I jump back.
He seems to soften when he notices that he frightened me. "Nessie," He speaks softer now. "What are you doing out here? You have no idea how dangerous this is, especially with a vampire on the loose."
"I was trying to find you," I croak, and my voice breaks on the last word.
Jacob takes a step closer and his eyes are glassy with something I can't quite put my finger on. He reaches out and stokes the side of my cheek. I lean into his touch. "Why were you trying to find me, honey?"
And it is with one word that begins with an "h" that I melt. "I thought something was wrong," I sniffle. "I was so worried about you. I couldn't just sit at home all night!"
"Renesmee," He lets out a long, practiced breath. "I told you to go inside. You have to listen to me."
"No I don't." Jacob appears taken back by my harsh words. "I'm not a little girl you watch over anymore Jacob. I can hear you, but I don't have to listen to you. I took what you said into consideration I just didn't… agree with it."
Jacob's lip pulls up into a tight slide. He licks the side of his lip and then shakes his head. "You didn't agree with it?"
"Yes." I tilt my chin higher in the air.
"Oh Renesmee." Jacob lets out a long breath and then grabs my face between his hot, hot hands. He rests his forehead against my own and I can't help but breathe him in. "Are you trying to kill me?"
"No, actually quite the contrary in fact. I was trying to make sure that you were still alive."
He smiles and then kisses the spot right between my eyebrows. "I am fine."
"I can see that."
"Will you go home now?"
"What happened?" I ignore him.
Jacob sighs and then pulls away from me, though I wish he hadn't. "Embry and Jared got into a fight."
"What?" My mouth drops on instinct. Paul and Embry, yeah I get that, or even Sam and Embry, or hell Jacob and Embry would make more sense than Jared. Jared is like a big teddy-bear, I don't think he's ever been in a fight in his entire life.
"It doesn't concern you," He presses the sides of my hair down.
I am not about to let him off the hook that easy. "Who does it concern?"
"Another imprint," Jacob sighs again.
It only takes me a second to figure it out. "Cassie," I breathe.
Jacob nods his head.
"Well they're both idiots." Jacob's eyes widen at my bluntness. "I'm sorry," I laugh. "They are! I forgave Cassie; I'm not about to be best friends with the girl but I don't want to kill her anymore either. This isn't their fight."
Jacob rolls his eyes. "Yeah well, some of the other pack members don't see it that way."
"What was Jared even mad about?" I inquire.
"He was defending you."
"So it was about me."
"Of course," He sighs.
"Wow," A smug smile rises on my face. "I am pretty damn popular around here."
"Don't cuss, Renesmee."
I roll my eyes. "You know what we need?
"No, but I have a feeling you are going to tell me."
I grasp the collar of Jacob's shirt and then lean closer to him. "A party."
Jacob bursts out laughing. "Yeah right."
"Or a get-together. Or a… bonfire! Yes a bonfire! We need all the wolves and all their imprints to hang out and get re-grouped and just relax for a second."
Jacob sends a teasing smile down at me. "Oh because the last bonfire went so well."
I roll my eyes and wrap my arms around his torso, leaning in for a hug. "If I called Emily and set one up would you attend?"
Jacob sighs and wraps his arms around me. "Renesmee Carlie Cullen, if you let me carry you home and doctor up those feet, I will do whatever you want me to."
"You do realize that this could go very, very, very, very, very bad, right?"
I stifle a giggle and then lean into his side. "What could really go wrong?" I tilt my face towards Jacob's chest and hope he doesn't notice when I take a subtle deep breath of him. We are currently on our way to yet another bonfire, though while at the last one I was drugged, I am hoping that the outcome of this particular Saturday will be more favorable.
"Well for starters no one likes her." Jacob runs a hand through my hair and I close my eyes. "And," He whispers, "They love you." I feel him kiss the top of my head and I bite my lip to keep from smiling too wide.
"What can I say? I do have that effect on tribe members."
"Oh, you think so." Jacob's arm tightens around my back and I giggle.
"I just really don't think it's going to be as much of a disaster as you think it is," I sigh.
"Considering you didn't tell anyone that you invited her, I am thinking that the likelihood is pretty high."
"What do you know?" I peer up at him and blow a few tendrils of hair out of my eyes. "You're not good at math."
Jacob pulls the car into park and then laces his other arm around me. He shakes his head and I watch as his gaze drops to my mouth. I bite the corner of my lip and he immediately leans down. I smile because I am beginning to realize how to make him do what I want without having to ask.
His lips connect with mine in one dazzling firework of an instant. I audibly sigh into his mouth and I feel him smile. Jacob goes to pull away but I press myself closer to him, making the kiss last just a little bit longer.
"Renesmee," Jacob murmurs as he swipes the hair that is still bothering me out of my eyes.
"Jacob," I repeat with a guilty smile. "Why don't we just skip the bonfire and go back to your place."
Jacob rolls his eyes. "Because I'm not falling for your whole innocent routine anymore."
I giggle. "Can you at least admit that I tempted you?"
He lets out a long breath. "Renesmee Cullen, you tempt every ounce of willpower I never knew I had."
I giggle as he opens the driver side's door and hops out. Jacob reaches in and picks me up by underneath of my arms and sets me down next to him.
"So unnecessary," I chuckle.
"Oh," He raises his eyebrows at me. "Kisses are unnecessary too."
"Did I say unnecessary?" I latch my arms around his stomach. "I meant very, very, completely, totally necessary."
"Oh you did?" Jacob laughs as I nod. He squeezes both of my cheeks and then kisses my forehead. "Come on."
He encloses his hand around my own and swings our arms as we begin to walk. The heat where he had kissed my head lingers for a while longer. Far before we reach the bonfire I begin to notice the things that I associate with the amazing bonfires I have attended my entire life. I take a deep breath of the smell of burning wood and then notice the sparks of red flying in the air. The soft hum of voices reaches my ears once we are a little bit closer.
As soon as we reach the rest of the pack I hear a chorus of whistles and chants. "There's the happy couple!" I hear Kim call over from Jared's side. I brush some of my hair onto my face and bite the corner of my lip.
"Heard about the union of my two favorite people," Quil claps Jacob on the shoulder and I nearly faint at the mention of Jacob and I's future marriage.
"Quil," I scold him and he just laughs at me. He wraps me up in one of the pack's signature bear hugs and I gasp as all the air leaves my lungs. "See, I told you it would all work out." He breaks from me and then tilts my head down, sloppily kisses the top of my head and then ruffles my hair. I cough as the air refills my lungs and I try to straighten my hair out again.
"Are you just going to let that obvious PDA fly right in front of you, Jake?"
I hear Embry's voice and then roll my eyes once he appears. Jacob and him do one of those man hug things and then Embry nods in my direction. He connects his eyes with mine and I can tell that there is something more that he wants to say, but he isn't going to in front of everyone else. I nod my head and then lean into Jacob. Oh dear, Embry being here means that Cassie must be close by.
When I don't immediately see her I crane my head to look past Embry. I see a figure standing a few feet behind him, and then I notice how she is twiddling her fingers and feet nervously, her hands clasped in front of her as she stands still.
"Cassie?" I whisper quietly.
I hear a few gasps and then a few whispers and I roll my eyes. Everyone goes silent and I wish that I could just whisk Cassie away for a second to tell them all to knock it off, for they are making the situation so much worse.
"Claire come here." Quil's serious and commanding voice shocks me, but little Claire skips right over to him and then he pushes her to his side and wraps his arm protectively around her.
I roll my eyes. "Oh my God Quil," I begin under my breath. "It's not like she's going to kill her."
"Stay by me, okay?" He ignores me and instead speaks to Claire. She looks up at him obviously confused and he smiles and runs his hand overtop of her head.
"Oh my God," I actually speak so that everyone can hear me now. "Cassie come here."
She slowly and very nervously walks over to us and then when she reaches Embry's side he nudges her shoulder, though that doesn't seem to help at all.
I look up at Jacob for help but he is watching Quil with Claire; of course he chooses now to be so interested in his best friend's imprint when I really need his help.
"Why is she here?" Leah's always pessimistic and annoyed tone hits my ears and I wince.
"I invited her." I take a quick breath and then turn towards the rest of the group.
"What?" Leah blurts, her mouth hanging open.
"Why?" Kim asks. I look at her for the first time to see Jared practically shielding her to the point of me not being able to see her.
"Because," I sigh and then cross my arms. "Alright listen to me. Every single one of you, besides from the imprints, have tried to kill me at some point. Can we all agree on that?"
"Not me!" Seth pipes up immediately.
"Me neither," Leah grumbles.
"Not helping," I grit my teeth.
"Yeah but that's different!" Jared actually seems offended. "We thought you were going to be some kind of crazed vampire monster; I would never hurt you now!"
I roll my eyes. "Jared."
"Well," Kim tries to talk but Jared is muffling her voice. "Jared!" She complains and then shoves at his arms until she finally breaks free from him. "Why aren't you more freaked out, Ness? You're the one she drugged."
"There's just," I let out a long breath and try to search for the right words. "Other things that you don't know."
I notice Jared drop his gaze to the grass and I look around at the rest of the pack members to see them do the same thing. I most definitely wasn't wrong in my assumption that Embry had thought about the story that Cassie told me and the rest of them had seen it.
"Look," I reach for Jacob's hand and he squeezes it. "If Jacob can give her another chance than I am positive that you all can too. Besides, she's an imprint. She's part of the wolf girl club now!"
Kim mumbles something underneath her breath and Emily shoves her and offers me a reassuring smile. Thank God for Emily and her kind and compromising demeanor.
"Well I don't like it." Sam's alpha voice shocks me more than anything. Like many other times, I had nearly forgotten that he was even here; Sam rarely gets into the pack's drama, but right now he seems to have a peaked interest.
"Sam!" I begin, but he waves a hand at me.
"It's not what she did, it's who she did it to." I open my mouth but he holds up a hand. "You know we all love you Ness, but it isn't about you. She hurt an imprint."
"She is an imprint," I cross my arms.
"Renesmee, it's okay."
I turn towards Cassie with wide eyes to see her nodding her head in agreement and leaning into Embry. "I can't expect anyone to welcome me with open arms." Embry rubs his hand on her arm and I stare at the very familiar movement, for Jacob has done that for me many times before.
"I-," Cassie stops and bites her lip and then looks up nervously towards Embry. He nods his head and she steps forward. "I'm not asking for you all to forgive me, or even trust me at all. I just- I mean- can't we all just enjoy the bonfire. I made a mistake and I'm sorry, I am, and I've talked to Renesmee. I'm just, I'm asking for a chance. Now that I know what this is I would love an opportunity to be apart of it."
Wow. I look up towards Jacob and lift my eyebrows at him and he does the same. "If that didn't do it nothing will," He whispers into my ear. I shake my head.
I pear out nervously at the rest of the group and notice all of them staring straight at her. Leah looks equally as pissed as she was before, Seth looks surprised, Jared looks unsure, Kim looks weirded out, Sam looks disinterested, Emily looks as supportive as always, Quil still looks like a protective brother, and Claire is just downright confused. I thank my lucky stars that Rachel and Paul couldn't make it tongiht, for I know Jacob's sister, and I know that she would probably have attacked Cassie right when she walked in; Paul, on the other hand, is practically the definition of a loose cannon. I am also pretty grateful that a few newer and younger members of the pack were off on their own hunting instead of attending; who knows what they would even think right now.
"So," I begin slowly and quietly.
Jacob clasps his hands on my shoulders and I nearly jump. "Let's eat."
Embry cheers and Seth pops up. Slowly but surely, the awkward silence breaks and the attention falls away from Cassie.
I sigh and hug Jacob from the side. "Ugh," I press my face into his shirt. "Thank you."
He kisses my temple and I sigh into his touch. Although Jacob has definitely been kissing me more, I really wish that he would kiss me more on the mouth. Who knew that going at Jacob pace is actual snail pace.
"Wow I need a drink after that," I whisper to him.
Jacob gives me a look as if to ask if I have just lost my mind. "Great idea; why don't you ask her if she has her flask?"
I burst out laughing because that was just so not funny at all.
"I'm hungry," I say as we sit down together. Jacob drapes his arm over my shoulder and pulls me so that I am closer to his side. I laugh and shake my head.
"Okay," He speaks slowly, and I love the way that I can feel his chest vibrate when he talks. "What do you want me to do about that?"
I roll my eyes. "Wait on me," I tease him. "Isn't that your job?"
"Oh you are so going to get it later."
I pick my head up and widen my eyes at him.
"Not like that you dirty little monster." I giggle as he rolls his eyes.
"Hey Seth," I reach to my right and hit his knee. "I may have a possible set-up in the works for you, interested?"
He shakes his head. "No way."
"What?" I complain. "But Seth! I promise she's hot."
"Yeah," He snorts and then motions towards Cassie. "The last time you brought one of your hot friends around you almost died and Embry imprinted. I am completely and entirely not interested."
"Well this one's different."
"Yeah? How's that?"
"She's not crazy," I smile innocently at him.
He laughs and then pokes my side. I nervously look towards Cassie, for I know that I shouldn't be talking bad about her behind her back, but she is lost in Embry land. I catch them steal a kiss and can't help but smile at the way that Embry casually rests his hand on her knee.
I pull on Jacob's shirt and he lowers his ear down to me. "I've never seen Embry with a girl before; it's weird."
"What do you mean," His chest shakes as he laughs. "Embry was with a different girl every weekend."
"No," I roll my eyes. "I mean I have never seen him with a girl before."
Jacob looks towards them and then nods his head. He hugs me tighter and I smile to myself. He runs his hand down my spine and I shiver.
"Are you cold?" He asks, and I really contemplate calling him on it, for I have a feeling that he knows exactly what he is doing when he does that.
Even so, I lie anyways. "A little."
Jacob pulls me tighter to him and then rubs my back with both of his very large palms. This is definitely my happy place.
Jacob sighs and I rest my head on his chest so that perhaps I could hear him breathing.
"Well," I sigh. "This is definitely more fun than falling face fist into your lap at the last one." Jacob's body stiffens and my cheeks become a thousand shades of crimson. "Oh. I- I didn't mean that- that- that came out wrong," I stumble over my words.
He doesn't respond.
"Hey Nessie!" I hear the excited voice of an eight year old and tilt my face to where she is sitting on Quil's lap next to us. I am so relieved to be pulled away from that very awkward encounter.
"What Claire-bear?" I smile excitedly.
"Guess what's in seven days?" She practically bounces with excitement.
I know exactly what is in a week, although I am definitely going to play with her a little first. "Hmmm, the apocalypse?"
"No!" Her light brown curls bounce.
"Oh, let's see then, are you taking a vacation maybe?"
"Nessie!" She moans, and I give in.
"Yes," I giggle. "I know Claire-bear, it's your birthday. What, are you turning fifteen?"
"Nine," She smiles proudly, but I can tell from the way that a smile takes up her entire face that she liked being mistaken with someone who is much older. "Are you coming to my party."
"Oh, well," I let out a long, dramatic sigh, "I'm going to have to check my schedule first but,"
"Of course she is coming!" Jacob shoves me and I giggle. "It's the only thing she's been talking about for weeks. Every time I try to tell her something important, it just always goes back to Claire's birthday party. I mean come on Claire, would you just turn thirty already?"
I smile up at Jacob. I love watching him interact with Claire, for it reminds me of how he used to interact with me when I was a little kid.
"Eight!" Claire exclaims, and we all laugh.
"Is Quil invited?" I tease.
"Only if he promises not to eat all the cake," She speaks definitively.
"Claire!" Quil gasps, and both Jacob and I's body's shake with laughter.
"Well it is true Quil," Claire sighs.
"Alright." Embry stands up and clasps his hands together, getting all of our attention. "Who's ready for ghost stories?"
I perk up excitedly but Quil moans. "Not again E; last time you told those stories this one over here was up all night."
"Was not!" Claire blushes.
"Clairey are you going back to your house tonight or are you staying here?" I ask her.
"My mom said I could stay over at Aunt Emily's," She smiles proudly.
"What do you think about a sleepover?"
"Really!" She pops straight up.
I can't help but laugh. "Sure! And this way you won't have to worry about Embry's stupid stories because you'll have me to protect you."
Claire rolls her eyes. "No offense Renesmee, but I don't think you could protect me from anything."
The entire pack bursts out laughing and Claire laughs awkwardly along with us. Since everything supernatural is a secret to Claire, she can't possibly understand just how funny her statement was.
It turns out that the sleepover with Claire ended up with her falling asleep on Quil's chest and being carried inside to bed. Jacob and I follow close behind them, and I press my hand to his face to show him a memory I have of him doing the same thing for me.
He smiles a knowing smile and then before I can complain, he pulls me into his arms.
"Jacob!" I complain with a giggle.
"Just be quiet." He sighs. He brings me up to the same room that Claire is in and we pass Quil as we enter. He laughs but doesn't say anything. Jacob sets me underneath the covers and I sigh.
"Will you call my parents?" I yawn.
"Of course," He swipes the hair from my eyes. "Did you have fun tonight?"
"I always have fun at bonfires, I sigh. "And I always have fun with you."
"Awe," Jake smiles and then kisses me head. When he is close I take my chance and wrap my arms around his neck.
"Renesmee," He murmurs deeply, peering over at sleeping Claire out of the corner of his eye.
"Jacob," I murmur. I close my eyes and lean my lips up to him. It takes longer than I would like, but eventually he does kiss me. The kiss is sweet and timid and very, very light; it leaves me craving for more.
"Jake," I moan.
"Renesmee," His voice is harsher and more demanding now. "Claire."
"Claire is sleeping," I trail my finger down his neck.
"Claire," He grabs both of my wrists, "Is eight."
I sigh and then nod my head, not without the sarcastic eye-roll of course. "Hey," He rubs his palm against my cheek. "What do you say about a double date with E and Cassie tomorrow night?"
Something in my stomach flips. "Why do you like Cassie so much?"
Jacob's expression softens. "Renesmee, I like you. I feel bad for Cassie as much as I hate her." He trails his thumb across my lip. "The only reason I'm trying is for Embry. I can tell he misses hanging out with us, and I know it would make it a lot easier on him if we all went out. Hell, I think it would even change the entire pack's perspective."
I roll my eyes. "Fine."
"You don't have to if you don't want to," Jacob sighs. "Embry just brought it up this morning. He said that Cassie said you suggested it."
I choose to ignore that very true statement and forget not to be insane. "Was Cassie there?"
"What?"
"This morning?"
Jacob sighs. "Yes Nessie she was there."
I bite the inside of my cheek and divert my gaze. "Does that bother you?" He asks after a moment.
"Kind of." I feel embarrassed now.
"But, why?"
I peer up at Jacob from beneath my lashes to catch an expression of pure confusion. "Jacob," I moan. "Don't make me say it."
"Say what?" He laughs.
"It's just," I look over at Claire once more to make sure that she really is sleeping. "You were there the day I was born, and as a couple we've been dating for a while now Jacob. Cassie met Embry like what, two weeks ago? And they're… intimate. And it makes me feel uncomfortable that she's always in your apartment walking around in God knows what and doing things in Embry's room that you can hear and then I don't like it- I don't like her hanging out there when you never invite me over to your apartment and thinking that she owns the place when if anyone owns that apartment besides you and Embry it is me. It's like she's impeding on my territory and I don't like it."
"Nessie," Jacob winces. "You are allowed over my apartment whenever you would like, you know that."
"Yeah but not the morning after," I roll my eyes.
"Renesmee." I finally connect my gaze with him. "I think you are perfect, and it takes everything inside of me to resist the instinct to do things to you that talking about would make you blush." I do, in fact, blush. "And you can't judge our relationship based on other people's. Look at Jared and Kim, they didn't have sex until they got married! Embry and Cassie had sex the first night they ever went out. For me, I know that that's not what I want. They started with sex and they're building from there, but we're starting with something deeper, something better honestly. We'll get there Nessie, I promise, but not yet, okay?"
I nod my head. The only thing I really heard in that entire very thought out declaration is that he promises to have sex with me.
"And don't be bothered about Cassie being over at the apartment. You've been there since we got it five years ago. You've got a lot of time on her. Also, the only girl I care about seeing wearing an extra large tee-shirt and no makeup is you. Period."
I giggle. "I still wouldn't mind being invited over more often."
Jacob sighs and stifles a laugh. "If invites to my apartment are what you need, then invites are what you will get."
I smile. "Thanks Jake."
"Goodnight sweetheart." Jacob kisses me again, just as soft as the first time, and then exits the room. He cracks the door behind him and I turn onto my side. I love what he said, I really do, and I understand it completely, but there is no denying the small part of me that wonders why he just barely kisses me on the lips when Embry can't keep his hands off of Cassie. It makes me wonder if she is really that much hotter than me. Now I feel like a douche because I know what the problem is; the problem is that I have never felt real competition on that end when it came to any of the imprints. But Cassie is here. She is here and she is walking around Jacob's apartment in tee-shirts and having sex in the room next to him and talking with him about taking me on dates.
I hate it.
And I know I am crazy. But I just can't stop.
I sigh and then wrap my arm around sleeping Claire. Everything was so much simpler when I was this small.
I feel like this double date could change Renesmee's perspective or go very, very, very bad. Still not sure which way to take it hehe, any thoughts?
