Chapter 14
"So what did Leon tell you?", John asked Kathleen as she stood with Barry, who would be giving the bride.
"Nothing that I don't know", she told him casually.
"He's late", Jill said as she tidied up Kathleen's gown a bit.
"I am so gonna kick him if he walks out at the last moment", Claire said furiously, taking her position as she was the bridesmaid.
"Yeah he disappeared like a ghost", Chris said, "Couldn't find him, even though we searched everywhere."
"Why don't we all take our place in the chapel you too John", David said hurrying over to them.
When they walked to the main area of the chapel, they saw Leon was standing there; John walked hurriedly to him and asked, "Where in the hell were you?"
"I was here from the beginning, never left this place", Leon answered in an obvious tone, "And had been waiting for wedding to begin for last 10 minutes", he told him looking at his watch.
"No you weren't we checked the whole place", John said frowning, taking position by Leon's side as best man.
"Did you check here", Leon asked with a winning smile.
"No, I mean you…; who would expect you to be here", John said complaining and Leon grinned.
They all quieted down and everybody's eyes were on the door in search for the bride. Leon was looking forward to see Kathleen; he had not seen her for a week now and will be seeing her any moment now. He heard footsteps as all was quiet and his heart beat raced, 'Why I am feeling like this she wouldn't be that different from before could she?', he thought . Then she entered with Barry and Leon had just one word for her- Stunning. She looked absolutely gorgeous in her wedding gown which was snow white with a little tinge of light blue. It fitted her nicely till her waist defining her supermodel like figure and flowed down and touched the floor. She had her waist length hair down but had a beautiful hairstyle. Leon couldn't help but be mesmerized by her looks and he suddenly felt glad that he decided to marry her. She approached him, he stretched his arm for her and she smiled at him brightly. Barry handed her to him and he handled her as she was made of glass.
When they were in front of the priest and he was saying all sorts of blessings for them Leon couldn't help but steal a few glances at her every now and then. When they were saying oath he absent mindedly repeated whatever he had to say and when the priest asked him whether he takes Kathleen to be his lawfully wedded wife, he didn't listen until John elbowed him and he said yes. And when the priest asked Kathleen whether she take Leon to be her lawfully wedded husband, she took some time in which Leon's heart beats raced a couple of times more that what it already were and once she said yes, Leon could swore that his heart did a black flip. And everyone cheered him on when priest said that he could kiss her.
Claire being the bridesmaid lifted up Kathleen's veil, the only thing which was hiding her true beauty, so Leon could kiss her. When Leon saw her without the veil obstructing his view, she seemed more beautiful than ever and he couldn't help but think that she was a really beautiful woman as his heart pounded harder against his chest again.
"Wow", Leon said so that only Kathleen could hear she smiled at him and he felt his heart beat increasing once more, 'What is this feeling?'
"Leon, kiss her come on", John whispered, giving him a push.
'No, I can't kiss her, she wouldn't allow it. But just for this once as it is custom', Leon bent forwards and softly kissed her on cheek and the guest present there cheered and some booed as he did not kiss her lips. She blushed which made her look more beautiful and Leon only smiled at her. They turned to walk out and Kathleen wrapped a hand around Leon's arm. When they reached the chapel entrance Jill said, "Wait you have to throw your bouquet." And all unmarried girls readied themselves as Kathleen turned around and threw her bouquet and it was caught by Ingrid.
"I think you'll be getting married soon too", Kathleen said to John, with a smile.
"Yeah now that I am married how can my best buddy remain unmarried?", Leon said teasing.
"Don't get your hopes up high, I haven't found anyone yet", John said trying to evade the topic.
"Oh… is that so but your girlfriend just caught my bouquet", Kathleen said raising her brow, "And you told Kathleen?!"
"What?! You are going out with Ingrid Hunnigan!?", Leon said in surprise.
"Hey I didn't tell anybody", John said raising his hands up in defense, "she's very much observant you know. She just guessed it out", John said.
"It was nothing. I just received a call from Ingrid she said she needed help with a date because she thought I was very feminine and if can impress Leon, I could impress any guy, so I kinda manipulated her into telling me who she was going out with and you know the rest", Kathleen told them.
"Hey its picture time, come on everybody", Claire called them over.
And they made their way to Claire. They all got their pictures with the newlywed couple posing a different pose every time. First they just took pictures individually, then with their girlfriend or boyfriend and then with family and then with all the women, after that with all the men and finally with everyone. When everyone's pictures was done, they decided to move back to have lunch.
"Hey wait! Can I have a picture of you two", the photographer asked to Leon and Kathleen.
"But you have enough of them, don't you", Jill asked.
"Yes ma'am but just one more. I promise it won't be a waste. They are a cute couple", he complimented them.
"Okay", Leon agreed.
The photographer led them to his desired place which was the chapel garden and made them stand in front of a beautiful creeper vine, which was full of flowers. He set up his camera and began giving them orders like move a little closer or put your hand around the lady and all sorts.
"How much close can we stand, does he want me to stand on your feet", Kathleen cursed under her breath.
"He just wants one photograph", Leon said as he was totally enjoying the situation.
"Why would you have to agree", she said as the photographer yet again asked them to get closer.
"Yes now I am ready, are you ready", the photographer asked.
"Yes, please hurry up!", she told him, "do it quickly this dress is sure beautiful but not comfortable", Kathleen added under her breath.
Photographer bent to look them through his camera. Leon shot a sideways glance at Kathleen, 'The right moment', he thought and quickly kissed her again on cheek and photographer clicked his picture.
"Oh no sir you ruined everything", he cursed out loud.
"That means we have to give one more shot, doesn't it", Leon called back and photographer excitedly went back to his camera.
"You did that on purpose", Kathleen said furiously glaring at him.
"I don't know what you are talking about", Leon said grinning and she couldn't help but smile. And every time the photographer was about to click his camera, Leon would do something stupid like take out his phone, look in some other direction or crack a joke which made Kathleen laugh, "Leon, you do it seriously, do you get me", she said holding his tie and looking at him a bit furiously. And Leon thought it was enough fun and gave a picture which satisfied the photographer and got him off their back.
When photographer had left, "Isn't he really annoying", Claire asked Kathleen.
"Yes, but nothing can be done right now", Kathleen said with a sigh and Leon pulled her just in time to dodge the bullet.
"Shit!", he cursed.
"Leon, what is going on?", Kathleen asked as Leon made her hide behind him and drew a gun out and put on his communicator.
"They are after us, probably", Leon told her, "My wedding made us an easy target. They are here to kill us 'cause we are the most efficient in our job."
"Yes that I can see, but what now", she asked as he held her hand and lead her inside the chapel cautiously.
"First lets change in something more casual", Leon said opening the door of the room where they talked before.
They changed from their wedding outfits to something that was more usual, "Barry's got cars ready for evacuation, you are going to go on it", Leon said as he pulled on his jacket and heard Kathleen change behind the room divider.
"And what are you going to do?", she asked him in a worried tone.
"I am going to help my friends", he said in an obvious.
"And get killed in action?", she said walking out.
"Yes, I am getting her right away", Leon spoke in his headset ignoring whatever she said. His job came with that specification that he could die anytime, "Let's go", he said to Kathleen, gesturing her to move.
"I am not going anywhere", she said stubbornly, crossing her arms.
"Kathleen don't talk stupid, just do what I say", Leon shouted at her for her lack of practicality.
"And leave you and then wait for them to tell me that you are dead", she yelled at him crying.
"Hey I'll be okay, just believe me, alright?", Leon said moving to her trying to calm her down, "Now come on let's just move to the car."
"Okay if that's what you want, you want to leave me here all alone, don't you", she said sadly, now giving up and moving towards the door.
Leon caught hold of her hand and pulled her in tight hug. She wrapped her arms around him tightly hugging him back. He missed this warmth so much in past couple of days that he didn't want to let go of her, "I won't ever leave you alone. I missed you so much in past couple of days… I just don't have words to describe that feeling. And before I forget it you looked awesome in today", Leon whispered in her ear, "I just want you to be safe, you're all I got."
"Me too", she sobbed in his shirt.
"Leon, where are you guys come on everybody's on board, police can take care of them don't play around. Get yourself and Kathleen here immediately, it's an order", David barked at him.
"I am on my way", Leon said still holding Kathleen, "Let's move", he said to Kathleen.
"One moment", she pulled away from him and picked both of their wedding dresses and put them in a carry bag, "Can't leave these."
Leon extended his hand to her like he did when Barry handed her to him and she took it, "Now stay behind me", he said.
Leon walked in front of her holding his gun in one hand and Kathleen's hand in other tightly. He looked around the corner and saw that it was clear. He could hear the gunshots but he was following David directions as he constantly kept telling him his way to the exit. He exited the building through a back door and found a car waiting for them.
"Kid hurry up", John called from the driver seat and they almost ran to it.
"Kathleen, get inside", David said, she looked at Leon, not leaving his hand.
"Don't worry", Leon tried to assure her of his safety.
"Yeah don't worry because he is going with you", David said pushing him towards the car as well.
"What?! You guys will need my help", Leon said not backing out.
"No we don't because we are leaving, you too", John said sternly.
"Yes, I was mistaken, it's some issue with the trustee of the church or something. The security men saw some men with guns and they asked them about it, they panicked and shot accidentally which just missed Kathleen and after that the others thought that they were ambushed so they fired at them too and that's the gunshot we've been hearing. The police got it under control now and don't need our help", David told him speaking fast and got up in the side seat, "you two get the car, there's nothing to be done here."
"Why didn't you tell me before", Leon asked getting in the car after Kathleen.
"Well I was more focused to get out of the fire fight", he replied.
Leon looked at Kathleen, she much more peaceful now. She looked at him looking at her and raised her brows, asking what happened and he shook his in reply that it was nothing. And she turned to look back ahead and Leon tore his eyes of her beautiful face to look out the car window but he couldn't help but notice her reflection on the window glass, that was much more attention attracting than the things outside.
"So what are you guys gonna do next?", John asked breaking the silence between them.
"Just go home and relax or eat something", Leon said looking at Kathleen.
"Leon, you have to take a flight in about 5 hours so you have to be in airport 1 hour from now", Ingrid, who was sitting on the other side of Kathleen informed him.
"Hey give the guy some break he had just been married", John said looking at her through the rear view mirror.
"Don't blame me, he's the one who approved it", she said pointing at Leon.
"I didn't accept any mission or maybe I did", Leon said trying to remember, "Oh… Shit."
"So you are going on a mission then?", Kathleen asked raising a brow at him.
"Yes, I guess", Leon said guilty of it and she frowned a bit.
"Don't worry he won't have to do anything dangerous, he just have to escort President and his family with all other agents to Sydney", Ingrid told her.
"What Sydney?!", Leon said in astonishment.
"Yep, you didn't know and said yes,?", John said confused, "well you are lucky that he requested half of us to escort him so you won't be lonely."
"So how long will you be gone", Kathleen asked as John pulled up the car in front of Barry's home.
"A week", John answered.
"What a week! What is he gonna do there get himself a new daughter in exchange of Ashley", Leon said sarcastically.
"You didn't know that too, did you?", Ingrid said shaking her head in disbelief, "I really doubted it when you said yes yesterday."
"Why did you ask me, you knew I had my wedding today", Leon said getting out and holding the door for Kathleen.
"Hey don't blame me for your mistakes, I am the middle person just passing the orders", she said getting out from the other side.
Kathleen helped Leon pack his stuff for his international trip, once they were back from Barry's after having lunch. And then hurried over to the airport so he could leave with rest of the agents for work and before Leon knew he was saying goodbye to Kathleen once again, leaving her for all by herself for another long week. He couldn't help but feel bad and guilty for doing this to her just after a few hours of them getting married. Although Kathleen didn't complain or anything but it didn't make him feel any better.
"Don't worry; Barry offered to keep me one more week", Kathleen said smiling.
"I thought you didn't like me going on missions", Leon said raising a brow at her. It was 180 degree flip reaction from earlier.
"Yeah but it's a part of your life isn't it and now it's part of my life too. I was afraid for you that time and am still now but you have and I think you'll keep your promise", she said casually adjusting his jacket's collar.
"Yeah I will, I promise", he promised her his return, "Barry take care of her", Leon said to Barry, who was staying back.
"Yeah don't worry, she's family now", he said assuring Leon.
"Goodbye", Leon said to Kathleen.
"Goodbye and take care", she said and Leon pulled her in a hug again.
"I'll call you and don't you dare give your phone to anybody and keep it with you all the times", he said reluctantly pulling away from her. She gave him a nod blushing and smiling at the same time and Leon resisted the urge to kiss her again.
"Leon!", somebody called his name and hugged him from behind and it annoyed Leon since he recognized the voice, "What a surprise you came to receive me!", the woman said leaving him.
"Angela, what are you doing here?", Leon asked her a little annoyed and surprised, because as per his knowledge she should be in Europe.
"Oh come on, you don't have to play dumb I know you knew that I was returning back today and that's why you came to receive me", Angela said acting all self important.
"Excuse me", Leon said trying to process what she was saying.
"Well I worked hard to impress the chief to get back here", Angela explained further.
"Sure worked hard", John muttered under his breath.
"And I'll be working with you guys again", Angela informed Chris and Jill, "It feels good to be back."
"Wish we could say the same", Jill said rolling her eyes.
"Leon, you should really get going", Claire said totally ignoring Miller.
"Yeah", Leon said agreeing with her.
"Take care and be safe", Kathleen wished him, which drew Miller's attention to her.
"What is she doing here?", Angela throwing her a dirty look.
"She came here to see us off of course", John informed her giving Claire a mischievous look and Leon couldn't help but shake his head at his childishness.
"And especially Leon", Claire said playing along with John and I pulled Kathleen away from those two.
"I thought you must have been over with her already and that she's no more your fiancée", she addressed me and I thought it better to avoid it.
"Well she's not his fiancée anymore", Claire said with a smug smile.
"I knew it!", Angela cheered in happiness.
"Well she's his wife now", John said bursting her bubble.
Angela didn't give anyone anytime to think as she threw a punch at Kathleen out of jealousy, but luckily Leon was very much aware of that behavior and was successful in stopping her punch, "Don't you dare hurt her", he said warning her, feeling a sudden upsurge of anger
"Leon, it's okay. I am fine", Kathleen said from behind him and he released Angela's fist from his tightening grip.
"You'll pay!", she yelled to Kathleen and stormed off.
"That woman is really something", Chris said shaking his head in disbelief.
"Leon; John, what are you doing here, let's move you two", David called them from a distance.
"Yeah we are coming", John yelled back to him as he and Leon started to move, quickly saying their last goodbyes.
"Leon!", Kathleen called and he turned to look at her.
"Do call me when you get there", she asked of him a little hesitantly, "I'll be waiting for your call", he gave her a nod and smile, feeling his anger vanish.
