Chapter 13- Stop it!
I felt my blood run cold. "I am not Herobrine." I answered. Honestly, it was the truth. I was no longer that person. I am a mortal and it seems like it's going to become my permanent form. I was not going to help someone in enough time to break my curse, and my heart ached just a bit when I thought about it.
Omega snorted. "Do you think I am an idiot? I know you are Herobrine. Just tell me how to become a god and I'll let you go." I couldn't help but laugh. "Even if I was Herobrine, that's impossible! It hasn't been done before!" His hand shot through the bars, holding onto my wrist. "There is a first for everything. Now, tell me how to become a god." His grip on my wrist was even worse than my captors. His skin was ice cold, making my already cold veins feel frozen.
I felt the heat before I saw it. Fire started to seep through his fingers, and I knew he was going to burn me if I didn't give him an answer. "I can't help you! I am not Herobrine!" I winced as the flames started to lick at my flesh.
Finally, he let go of me and I sighed with relief. "I guess we have to do this the hard way." Omega strolled over to the door, pressing a button that blended with the wood. I rubbed my wrist tenderly. Alexander and James marched in, bowing.
"Get it." They nodded and left. Omega walked back over to me and gave me a haunting smile. "I have a surprise for you, Hero." The nickname sent chills down my spine. Only my brother (it's Notch, right?) would call me that when we were younger, when we were still connected.
I pushed myself farther away from him, to the back of the cage. He only chuckled, his red eyes flickering with glee. Alexander and James strolled in, dragging in a tiny form. I was hesitant to move forward to clearly see, not wanting to show this madman that I was curious. My captors dropped the figure in front of Omega, obscuring my view. Inching forward a tiny bit, I saw a flash of green; but Omega shifted, blocking my way once more.
He giggled with delight. "Perfect." He purred, gesturing for the men to leave. I was once again left alone with Omega. "I think you'll like this surprise."
Omega moved, allowing me to see what exactly my captors dragged in. I immediately lurched forward, clenching my fists against the bars.
In front of me, lay Luna. Her wrists were bound with some sort of black rope, and one of her eyes was ringed in a bruised halo. Blemishes covered her body, bits of black and blue stark against the now dull cyan of her shirt. She looked up at me with her emerald eyes and I felt my heart break. Her eyes were full of betrayal and hurt, and I could see that she was broken.
Fury replaced the cold in my veins. I pounded on the bars with all the force I could muster. Omega clicked his tongue. "Now, now, these cages are new! Don't go defacing my property, Hero." "You let her go, now." I snarled, a sudden protectiveness coming over me. "I will, when you tell me how to become a god." I exploded, screaming at the madman in front of me. "I AM NOT AND NEVER WILL BE HEROBRINE! I cannot give you the information you want from me because I AM NOT HIM!" Luna almost shrank back, her eyes darting away from me in terror.
I was panting, glaring at Omega with the intention to burn him on the spot. Just seeing Luna broken and beaten broke open a part of me, a tender part that I never had before. Omega strode over to Luna, grabbing her hair and forcing her to look up at him. She didn't struggle against his grip, which surprised me. The fiery hybrid I met that day in the forest was gone.
"Have you been a good girl?" Luna's eyes caught mine for a split second before looking back and nodding. Omega let go of her hair and delicately brushed his finger against her cheek. I saw Luna indistinctively shudder under his touch. I recalled that day in the forest when James held her hostage, tapping his finger against her cheek. I wondered if Luna was thinking the same thing.
Omega turned to me, but not before pushing the button that summoned my guards. "You see, Luna here has been very helpful in telling us what you looked like and where you were last. Of course," Omega paused. "She needed some convincing first." I couldn't even look at him. I realized now that he was more insane than I thought, willing to torture a young girl for power. Someone like that has no heart.
Alexander and James walked in, bowing once again to their master. "Bring her back to the basement. This one will tell me what I want eventually." James grabbed Luna by her wrists and she lurched upwards, unsteady on her feet. I could see that going back down to the basement was something she was terrified of, and I wondered exactly what they did to her down there. "Don't touch me!" She yelped, her voice hoarse. She struggled against James' clutch. My grip on the bars grew even tighter. "She did nothing to deserve this. Let her go." I growled. Omega only watched her fight weakly against James, a tiny smile on his face. James glanced over at Alexander, who went over and picked Luna up in a princess carry. He murmured something in her ear, but she didn't stop struggling. "Let me go!" She screamed again, but Alexander held tight.
Omega clicked his tongue. "You were so obedient before, what happened now child?" Luna yelled out in frustration. "Sir, I believe it is because he is here." James replied, spitting out the he in disgust. "Blindfold and secure her." My captors moved into action, James pulling out a dark piece of cloth and tying it over Luna's eyes. Alexander tenderly placed her on the floor while James fastened a chain to the rope around her wrists.
James pulled on the chain, hard. Luna slid across the floor, whimpering. He bolted the chain to a hook in the wall, and I watched as Luna attempted to move herself around.
"Will you tell me how to become a god?" Omega questioned, bending down ever so slightly. I gritted my teeth. "I don't know how." He shrugged. "Then she dies."
"No! NO! Please! Don't hurt her, stop hurting her! Torture me, but let her go!" I cried out in desperation. Omega only chuckled. He pulled his fire sword out, swinging it as he walked to where Luna was. I cried out again, but he ignored me. Luna heard the agony in my voice and started to cry. I felt hopeless, trying to save this girl who saved me back in the forest with her words.
"You see, fire was Herobrine's element. I worked for many years to harness the power, but always failed. It was when Herobrine came to visit that I would steal bits of him, tiny slivers of power for my own need. The power I hoped for was immortality, but I got these fire powers instead. At first, I was furious. I had done so much work, everything I could to steal some of Hero- your power, but I only got a shred of the power you weld." His sword now pointed at Luna, he turned to look at me with a toothy smile.
"I practiced so much, so often that eventually I managed to create Ignis, my sword." Luna was in hysterics, tears wetting the cloth and sliding down her cheeks. I desperately wanted to hold the girl in my arms, to console her. "Sir, the ceremony. It begins soon." Alexander warned, giving Luna a sad glance. "How could I have forgotten? I'll be seeing your sisters soon. Lucky me." Omega winked. "Well, it seems as though I have to cut this short. James, come with me. Alexander, stay here and guard them. If either one escapes, it's your sisters head that I will hang on my wall. Am I understood?" Alexander nodded grimly. "Good." Omega put his sword back on his back and strode from the room.
Luna's cries had turned to sniffles and she lay helpless on the floor, barely moving anymore. "Luna," I said softly, "what did he do to you?" "I can't." She coughed. I turned to my captor. "Don't even ask." He growled at me.
"Luna, please." She shook her head. "Steve, I can't. Please, I…" "Luna, I'm not angry with you. I understand. And it was only a matter of time before Omega found out anyway." She started crying again, big heaving sobs racking her shoulders. "You can't understand." "I think I will. At least give me the chance too." She took a deep breath, calming herself.
"It was after I left you in the forest. You so me so upset with what you said, I just ran. I didn't even know where I was going, until I realized that I stopped at one of the old zombie dens, my first home." Luna started, her voice quivering ever so slightly. "It was a couple days later that I heard an enderman outside. I thought nothing of it, considering I was in a mob den. But then I saw the purple sparks, exactly like the ones in the forest…" "James." I muttered darkly. She nodded solemnly. "He burst inside the cave and grabbed me. This time, I refused to be taken without a struggle. I tried fighting the way I saw you do in the forest, but in the end it was no use." He lip quivered.
"He punched me in the eye, and it hurt. Oh, it hurt so much that I stopped fighting for a split second, but it was all he needed. He threw me over his shoulder and I slipped into unconsciousness." I looked over at Alexander, who had the decency to look uncomfortable.
"I woke up in this dark, smelly room. I was alone, but not for long. Omega stormed in. 'Where is he?' He asked me, and I told him I didn't know. He cried out in anger and slapped me across the face. After that, it took a turn for the worse. He knew that I knew you, and he wanted as much information from me as possible. I didn't want to die, Steve." She finished, her shoulders slumped in defeat.
"Luna, don't cry. Please." I asked my voice strained. How could anyone do such a thing to a helpless young girl with no family? She curled up, moving towards the wall where she was chained. "At least he isn't here anymore." She muttered. "Try and get some sleep." Just as I said that, I noticed that her body went slack, leaning up against the wall. Alexander looked at her with pity. "She didn't tell you everything, you know." I gave him a questioning glance. "He abused her for days. It never ended, but she never gave us a name until a couple days ago."
"But Omega couldn't have possibly known that I was coming today. Luna didn't even know I was coming here. I didn't tell her that. So how could he have known?" I asked Alexander. He shrugged. "All Luna said was that you had dark brown hair, was wearing cyan shirt and jeans, and your eyes were a pale blue. And that you went by the name of Steve."
It dawned on me. "He wasn't expecting me. When he told me my name, my reaction gave it away." I slapped my forehead. "I'm so stupid!" Alexander looked over at Luna once more and stepped a bit closer to my cage.
"You almost beat up my sister that day in town. Your protectiveness over this girl is surprising, considering your history. What happened to you?"
I started to answer but the doors flew open, starling me and Alexander. James walked in, his amethyst eyes glinting with malice. He beckoned Alexander over to him. "Master has no more prisoners in the basement. He used the last one at our last prayer session. He needs another for the ceremony." The hybrid whispered. Alexander gave me a quick glance. "Who would he use? Herobrine? I thought Master needed to interrogate him more."
James shook his head. "Not him, it's the girl he wants. Master wants her to be the sacrifice tonight."
