Preparing to give birth Jane began getting settled into her labor room at the hospital. Maura sat next to her on the edge of her bed . She was focusing on her stop watch as she timed Jane's rather loud intense contractions and listening to Jane's cries of pain.
Jane mashing her teeth together grunts out angrily "Drugs Maura! I want drugs now! You're a doctor and my wife . Get me drugs now!"
Maura gently pats Jane's engorged pregnant tummy with her hand "Shhh...shhh honey . Calm be calm and breathe...inhale with me and hold it."
Maura exaggeratedly inhales deeply waving her hands around acting like she's gathering all the air in the room to inhale. She was trying to get Jane to do the same breathing as her. Jane angrily sucks in a breath through her gritting teeth and staring at Maura.
"Now slowly exhale with me."
Maura gently holds Jane's hand in hers and squeezes as Jane starts to exhale. She then feels Jane's grip on her hand getting tighter and painful. She tries to break the now clenched fist of her wife.
Jane grips as hard as she could and stares pleading to Maura . She growls out in a harsh gravelly voice
"I can't take it anymore! Get me drugs ….please Maura!"
Maura nodding stands up breaking the vice like grip of Jane's hand. Maura shakes the pain out from her hand and kisses Jane on her forehead. "Okay honey , I'll go find your doctor. But just keep inhaling and exhaling while I'm gone. I promise baby it'll help you with the pain. I'll be as fast as I can." Maura starts walking for the door.
"Thank you...hurry Maura please!"
"I will baby, I love you."
"Love you too... Maybe run now Maura , pain is getting bad now okay?"
Maura nods fast and starts walking fast out the door to find the doctor with the drugs. She runs into the labor nurse coming in as she is leaving the room .
"Um Jane's contractions are five minutes and thirty three seconds apart now. Please help her with her breathing while I find her doctor ."
"Yes Dr. Isles-Rizzoli I will."
A loud groan from Jane startles them both as they stare at closed labor room door.
"I need to go, nurse please just try to keep her calm."
The nurse nods as Maura starts to jog down the hall to find the doctor.
In the waiting room Frankie sits by himself waiting for some news on Jane's condition. Tommy was left at their house to watch the baby as they came to the hospital. Frankie wished he would've stayed and watched little Calico too. But he had to drive Jane and Maura to the hospital.
Frankie smiled to himself and softly says out loud to the empty waiting room. "Calico ...Captain Jack so cool leave it to Jane to name their kid that. I love it. Wonder what they'll name this one?"
Frankie shook his head side to side and chuckled to himself as he started hearing loud chaotic sounds of people coming fast and closer to the waiting room. The doors burst open and he hears a loud familiar voice yelling to him.
"Where's my Janie? Has she had my other grand baby yet?" Angela frantically looks at Frankie and around the room for answers.
Frankie stands and hugs her. "Jane's in the labor room. I haven't heard anything yet."
Frankie looks over her shoulder and sees Tommy whose holding Calico in his arms.
"Tommy let me hold Captain Jack a little bit."
Tommy grins as he hands over the baby to him "Yeah okay take the little pirate. Calico is just so cool right?"
Frankie holds the baby nodding "Yeah I like it too. What's she and Maura going to name the new baby? Ma do you know?"
Angela moves in and makes faces at the baby smiling "I have no idea what they are planning to name their baby. I bet you do though , don't you Calico? Yes you do don't you baby?"
They all laugh watching Calico squirming in Frankie's arms. Then they hear Jane screaming out in pain.
Angela turns and starts to run to her saying to the boys "Oh Janie needs me. You boys want to come with me?"
In unison the scrunch their faces and say "Ewwww no, Ma."
Frankie adds "We'll watch Calico you go."
Angela nods and runs to Jane. As she is seeing Janie being transferred into the delivery room she runs into Maura.
"Maura honey what's happening? Where are they taking Janie?"
"Angela don't worry . We're going to the delivery room now. I found her doctor see?" She points to the man beside her.
Angela reaches and grabs the doctor's arm and drags him with her as she chases after Jane.
"C'mon doc you need to deliver my new grand baby."
As they enter the delivery room the doctor says to the nurse. "Please administer both the spinal and epidural procedures now nurse."
"Yes doctor." The nurse starts the spinal on a smiling Jane who knows that will stop her pain.
Maura exhales a sigh of relief knowing Jane soon wouldn't be in pain anymore.
Angela asks "Where is her blue monster ..um oh cookie monster? She made me promise it would be in the delivery room with her."
Maura runs to the other room and picks up the bag they brought with them. Maura had packed everything she thought Jane would need and want for the delivery room. She ran back to the delivery room with the bag. She unzipped it and pulled out a little stuffed cookie monster doll . She showed to Angela and smiled.
The drugs starting to taking effect on Jane as she saw the cookie monster out of the corner of her eye says groggily " Missy!...Gimme , gimme Missy."
Angela looks confused at Maura and asks "Missy? I thought he was a Cookie monster?"
Jane smiles at her Ma and tries to explain why Maura gave her a cookie monster stuffed animal and why it's a girl.
"Yeah Ma it's a girl. Ya know why, remember when Frankie, Tommy and me were little?"
Maura tries to change the subject. She knows her non drugged wife wouldn't want to explain it to her mother.
Maura hands Missy to Jane saying "Look here's Missy. You're not feeling any discomfort are you honey?"
Jane takes the cookie monster and hugs it in her arms. In her drugged state smiling she says "Nope , this is kinda fun now."
Jane looks at the nurse and jokes waving her arms out and around slurring saying and mispronouncing everything "A round of epiduralis and some spineys danuls for everyone , on me nursey."
Angela and Maura smile at each other. Angela says "I think the drugs are kicking in. Janie isn't feeling any pain at all is she?"
Maura laughs brushing the hair away from Jane's face. "No ,you aren't feeling any pain are you baby?"
Jane smiles hugging the cookie monster in her arms . "Nope no, no pain . Ma when did you get here?"
Maura laughs "Baby she's been here awhile."
Angela laughs and looks at the cookie monster and remembers something about it.
"Jane is the little cookie monster a girl because of what my sisters used to call a woman's..um ..you know ?" Angela whispers so only Maura and Jane could hear her. "You know a woman's vagina, when you kids were little?" She tries to explain to Maura "Me and my sisters called it a cookie instead of vagina around the kids back then. They used to giggle every time one of us said cookie."
Maura grins "I know Jane told me about that. And yes that's why she calls the little cookie monster a girl."
Angela and Maura share a laugh as the doctor pulls his stool up closer to Jane.
He begins "Okay Jane I'm going to need you to start pushing."
Maura rushes to Jane's side and holds her hand. "Okay honey take a deep breath and start pushing."
Jane nods her head and takes a deep breath. Angela rushes to Jane's other side and holds her other hand in hers as Jane starts to push.
Maura wipes off Jane's brow with a cloth handkerchief she brought from home.
"Oh baby you're doing great. I just wish you were there with me like this when I was giving birth to Calico. Instead of having Vince and Jo Friday there with me. It would have been so nice. But I'm just glad I'm here for you now."
Jane can't believe Maura was saying this now. After she finishes pushing she breathes hard .
Between breaths stares at Maura and says "Really? Now, right now you're going to try and make me feel guilty again for not being there. Really Maura, now really?"
Maura feels a twinge of guilt as she understands how that must've sounded to Jane. "Sorry honey. I didn't mean it that way. I'm just so happy to be here with you now. And I was feeling bad for you not being able to feel what I'm feeling now with you."
Jane smiles understanding Maura wasn't trying to make her feel guilty. "I wish I would've have been there too. I'm so glad you're here now though." Jane jokes and adds " I'm just happy you didn't bring Bass and his family here for this." Everyone laughs as they picture Bass and the babies in there with them now.
A huge contraction hits Jane and she screams out as she feels the pain . "Ohhhhh owww! I need more shots or drugs Doc!"
"No Jane no more drugs, you just need to push for me now."
Angela rushes over next to the doctor and looks between Jane's legs to see if she could see the baby .
Jane is horrified and yells "Ma! Get back up here! Head only or you can leave. C'mon Ma , please!...God , really Ma? "
Angela smiles throws up her hands in defeat and walks back to Jane's side and holds her hand.
"Sorry Janie, I'm just so excited and anxious to see my grand baby."
The doctor sees the baby's head crowning and says "Okay Jane I'm seeing the head. I'm going to need a big push from you right now okay?"
Jane nods and takes a deep breath. Maura and Angela excitedly grasp on to Jane's hands and grips them tightly as they feel Jane beginning to push.
The doctor catches the baby as it comes out quickly into his hands. The nurse hands out a scalpel to Maura and asks "Would you like to cut the umbilical cord?"
Maura nods yes takes the scalpel and cuts the cord and smiles at Jane. The doctor then hands over the baby to the nurse and positions himself again on the stool .
The baby cries as Maura and Angela rush over to see the baby .
Gushing with happiness Angela asks "Is it a boy or girl nurse?"
The nurse smiles "It's a beautiful girl."
Maura starts to cry looking at her new daughter. She walks back to Jane and kisses her .
"She's beautiful Jane. You did great honey." Jane smiles.
The doctor says to Jane "Okay Jane ready?" Jane nods her head yes. "Okay I need you to push for me again. I can see the other head beginning to push forward."
Angela's head whips around to the doctor . Confused she asks "Another head?"
Maura totally confused looks at Jane "Another head? What is happening? I do not understand Jane...Doctor please tell me what is happening with my wife?" She looks at Jane smiling up at her "Jane what's going on?"
" Twins...Sweetie we're having twins , surprised? "
Maura and Angela's jaws hit the floor in shock and surprise. But then are quickly turned into huge smiles . As they look at the absolute look of pride and beauty radiating from Jane .
Angela bursting with happiness asks "Is the other baby a girl or boy?"
Jane looks down at the doctor "I don't know, is it a girl or boy doc?"
The doctor smiles "I don't know yet. You are going to have to give me a big push now so we can find out. Are you ready to push for me now Jane?"
Jane nods and begins to push. As they all hear the other baby crying in the incubator waiting for it's twin to join her . The incubator was built big enough for two.
The waiting room was filling up with people waiting to hear news about Jane. Cavanaugh, Frost and a few other detective arriving with pink and blue balloons and stuff animals in their arms for Jane and Maura's new baby. Little Calico was being handed around giving everyone a chance to meet the baby.
Back in the delivery room Maura still in shock . Jane resting between contractions .
Maura asks "How? Why didn't you tell me or did you know you were having twins Jane?"
Weary and tired Jane smiles " I only found out about a month ago. The doc there used the ultrasound thingy and noticed something behind the baby...and surprise ….another baby hiding behind other the baby. I wanted to surprise you with it too."
"Yeah I'm surprised alright. But Jane I don't see.."
Jane yells in pain with another urge to push.
The doctor positions himself to catch the baby as it comes out. He says to Jane "Okay here we go. Give me a huge push now. On three okay?...1...2...and...3... push ."
Maura and Angela hold on tight to Jane's hands again. They all hear the baby cry as it fell into and was being held in the doctor hands. Quickly the nurse hands the scalpel to Maura again to cut the cord.
After she does they clean up the baby . The nurse smiling at Jane ,Maura and Angela announces "You now have a beautiful set of twin girls...congratulations."
Happy tears start rolling down all of their faces . Maura and Angela go over to see the twins. Angela gets out her phone to get some pictures of the newborns. Jane sits up as much as she can to watch Maura and her Ma look at the twins together.
After the nurse cleaned off the little girl , she places the baby down into the incubator next to her twin sister. Once placed in with the other the waiting sister she stops crying and reaches out her hand and touches then holds her sisters hand in hers . Angela snaps and captures a shot of the adorable girls holding hands with her cell phone.
Maura wipes away a tear and looks over to Jane "Honey ,how about we name them Anne and Mary?"
Jane weakly smiles nods yes "After the girl pirates and Calico's friends? Yeah I like that Maura. We'll have a houseful of little pirates now, huh?"
Maura smiles nods and looks back over at the twins still holding hands.
