My poor, pouty little boy, wishing he was home, when I desperately wish for the chance to travel around the world... ah, well, ya can't please 'em all. Now, we travel farther in time, to the Ruins of Alexandria... in Egypt.
1919, Ruins of the Library of Alexandria, Egypt
He really didn't want to be here. Of course, he had no choice, as his parents, Archeologists the both of them, hadn't exactly given him one. He'd have much rather stayed in England, and honestly, what was there for an eleven-year-old to do in the desert besides dying of heat? He pouted as he kicked some old rubble.
He'd get scolded for that, later, but Lucian didn't care. He just wanted out of here. His messy pale blond hair (it had on multiple occasions been called silver) glinted in the sun as he wandered around, bored out of his mind, while his parents dug around in the sand. Looking for old stuff. Mum had said that he'd appreciate it when he got older, but he doubted that.
All he wanted was a nice, cool house with nice, cool sheets and his library that actually had books. Everything here was burned away, anyways, he thought with a glare.
"What a thing to say." A voice said behind him. The boy let out a yelp, as the woman, clothed head to toe in black, with a thick veil over her head. He blinked, she chuckled. "you are not enjoying your time here, young man?" she asked. He shook his head. "No." he grumbled.
"What is your name, child?" she asked.
"Lucian. Lucian Cameron." He grumbled. "My parents are archeologists, and they made me come with them."
"Hm. Follow me. There is a place that your parents have not yet found…. You might find it interesting."
"Why?" Lucian wanted to know. His dark eyes narrowed. The woman laughed. "It is a place that only you can go, now." The young man rolled his eyes. "Sure," he said, as he followed her. "I've got nothing better to do, anyway…"
He followed her to a door in the ground. Much like a tomb, and suddenly, the boy was frightened. This woman might lock him in there and leave him to die…. The woman looked back at him. "I can not harm you, child. It is against my creed. Do not be afraid." She told him, as if reading his mind. He shivered, but continued to follow her.
Down the stairs and into a room with rows upon rolls of scrolls. All written in a language that he recognized, but could not yet read fluently. "Wh- what are these…? I thought that all the scrolls were destroyed?" he said in a hushed, reverant voice. The woman laughed. "and here they will stay until you are old enough to bring them back. This is what remains of the great library after the Catholic Pope burned it to the ground.
"Woah…." Lucian whispered. He did not notice the woman walking up to a cabinet and grabbing something out of it. "And this… this is yours, now, young guardian." The woman said, as she held out the small, wooden box.
He recognized the characters on it as…. Wait… "That's Chinese…" he said, with a frown. "How come a Chinese box is here in an ancient Roman building?"
"A good question, inquisitive one, and one that I cannot answer. However I can say that it has been here, and it has been guarded by my mother, and her mother before her, and so on, until now. You are the one that is capable of wielding it, child."
"that seems like a big responsibility for a kid…" the eleven-year-old muttered. "And so it is. Will you do it?"
"I don't really have a choice, do i?"
"You always have a choice. This is no different. You can walk away right now, if you so choose. As it is, the spirits have told me you will wait a long time for your partner…."
He took it.
He opened it. A ring winked out from it, this made of pale gold. It looked too big. "I don't think it'll fit me…" he muttered. Not to mention that his parents would see it and wonder where he got it. The woman pulled out a chain from her pocket. This should help… until you grow into it." she said. "But you must never take it off… you must never lose it, or let it fall into someone else's hands."
The boy nodded.
Later, when he was alone in his tent- mum and dad were still digging out treasures in the sand, a… thing appeared. It looked almost like a firefly. And she smiled. "I'm Aarchi. The Kwami of Light. It's nice to meet you, finally."
"I'm Lucian Cameron. Can you explain everything? I'm still confused…"
"Of course. We have plenty of time for that." The small creature said. "I must say, you're taking this rather well for a new Guardian…"
"My parents always said to expect the unexpected, and this is about as unexpected as it gets, I guess." Lucian said.
"well, I guess I should tell you the biggest rules. There are five, though for you, only three apply at this point in time."
"and what are they?" Lucian asked, cocking his head to the side. Aarchi smiled. She giggled and said. "First. No one must know about me. Friends, family, anyone. The only ones who can know about me are other gaurdians. This rule coincides with the second rule: you must keep yourself protected at all costs. Your identity is a secret to all. My magic when you transform helps with this, but you cannot tell anyone… besides the other guardians. The third rule: You must, at all costs, protect your partner. As you don't have one at the moment- Terr is in a different country, and its unlikely you will meet your partner- this rule doesn't apply to you."
The boy nodded, but stayed silent. There were still two more rules, and he needed to know them. Aarchi continued. "The fourth rule is that you must keep the miraculous safe. It is the source of…. Well, me. I can be destroyed, and I don't want to be just yet. Not to mention what it would do to Terr. The fifth is the thing that puts you at risk with all of these things: You must protect the Balance. If I have been awakened, and if you are truly my guardian- which you are, that means that Elahh's spawn is rising again. Or has been all along, and we must do something to help.
"Who's Elahh?" the boy asked, suddenly worried.
"Elahh is the Kwami of all things dark, He is the Kwami of Curse."
The boy shuddered at the thought, but he nodded. "Okay." He whispered.
Well, at least he was okay with it. Unlike Felix. Five years ago. ah, ha ha ha
Anyway, thank you. R&R
