Chapter 14: Tell Me Why
Woo Bin
The man standing in front of him had a smirked plastered on his face, a smirk Woo Bin wanted to beat out of him. He suddenly felt over protective of Ga Eul as he stood face to face with the man. He made a threatening look, their faces inches apart Woo Bin grabbed the man by his collar.
"And why would we do that?" he nearly growled.
"Woo Bin let go of him" Yi Jeong said from his bed as he looked at both men with the same amount of testosterone.
Woo Bin let go of the man and stepped back, the man only chuckled at the both of them.
"No w I understand why Ga Eul left" the man said while he shook his head with amusement. Both Yi Jeong and Woo Bin looked at the man with anger. "What did you say?" Woo Bin said as he was about to grab him again but the man stepped back a bit making Woo Bin miss his collar.
"I am Ga Eul's friend from Japan and I need to take her home" the man said with ease as he sat at the nearby chair while crossing his legs. "We need to discuss and that is why I'm trying my best to remain civilized, unlike you two" he gestured and smiled at both of them.
Woo Bin sat down on Yi Jeongs bed while the Casanova sat up, both glaring at the man. Woo Bin felt uneasy while he stared at the man in front of him. He somehow felt threatened and he didn't know why, 'is it because of Ga Eul?' he thought as he squirmed in his seat, waiting for the man to continue speaking.
But instead it was Yi Jeong who spoke "She is home, and why would we trust you? We barely know you"
Woo Bin looked at his best friend and saw that he was mirroring the same expression he had. He was about to speak up as well when the door opened and another stranger entered the room. It was a girl this time. She was a petite girl with a round face; she had big round eyes that were partly covered by her fringe.
As soon as she entered the room she made a bow and greeted them with much enthusiasm. "Ohayo! My name is Makino Tsukushi!"'
Yi Jeong and Woo Bin made confusing looks once again as the little lady sat down beside the man. "I'm here to talk about Chu Ga Eul" she said.
Woo Bin felt more confused than ever, he didn't know these people yet they wanted to discuss with him one of the most important people in his life. He wondered what could be their business, why they were here and why they are so interested with Ga Eul. He stood from the edge of Yi Jeongs bed and made a bow as well. "Hello my name is Woo Bin and this is Yi Jeong" he introduced himself the second time today. Yi Jeong made a nod as a sign of acknowledgment and the man smirked "much more respectful eh?" he joked, earning a glare from the two.
"What is this all about? Why do you want to take Ga Eul back to Japan?" Yi Jeong asked politely, but Woo Bin saw that the potter was only containing his anger. He knew Yi Jeong was the jealous type, he also knew that Yi Jeong was overly protective of Ga Eul just like he was. Yi Jeong was only acting so nice because he knew that he needed to know who these people are and why they wanted Ga Eul.
The little lady made an awkward smile, "Well we are her friends in Japan and we need her to come back to Japan for her to continue her treatments, if not she could get worse!" she said with much worry in her voice, her English was a bit difficult to understand unlike the man who was very fluent. Once again Yi Jeong plastered on his charming smile, even if there was a bandage wrapped around his head he still managed to look dashing as ever. "You won't need to do that because Ga Eul is already being treated here"
Both the lady and the man looked at each other, as though they were conversing in their minds. "Well we really need her to go back because you don't have what she really needs" the man exclaimed.
After hearing those words both Woo Bin and Yi Jeongs blood boiled, evident in their faces that they did not like what they have just heard. "And what is that you can give that we can't?" Woo Bin emphasized as he tried his best to control his fist that was about to hit the guy. The little lady made a swallow and stood between the two men, who looked like they were about to pounce at each other.
"Stop!" she said as she held onto Woo Bin, her palms resting on his chest awkwardly. Woo Bin looked down at the lady who was in front of him and made a step back, not wanting to further be touched by two. "I'm sorry if we have angered you, what Nishikado-san meant is that there is a clinical trial in Japan that could really help Ga Eul, it was one of the reasons she went to Japan in the first place, because Japan was the only place that offered her hope for her sickness" the girl managed to say in one breath.
Both Woo Bin and Yi Jeong looked at each other; both seemed to be thinking of the same thing. "You need to sit down so we can further explain" said the girl as she tried to calm both men.
Woo Bin and Yi Jeong nodded and agreed, wanting to hear her story both the Casanova and Don Juan decided to set aside their overly protective character and listened to the small woman in front of them.
The little lady took a deep breath as she sat back down herself. She looked at both men and began her story.
Kang San
Kang San felt very nervous, he didn't know what to say or what to do with the woman standing in front of him. She was smiling at him; her eyes glimmered with happiness as she swayed back in forth waiting for him to answer. He didn't know what to say to her, he was caught off guard! It was all new to him, he had never talked to a girl this long and it was making feel stupid. He felt like he was splashed with cold water when she asked him the question, women rarely talked to him let alone ask him on a date!
Kang San scratched the back of his head and glanced at Min-Jee nervously, 'how could this girl be so brave?' He thought.
"Soo...is it a yes or a no?" Min-Jee asked hopefully as she stared at him with her beautiful brown orbs.
Being a gentleman he was, he didn't want to reject her. He nodded and awkwardly said "Y-yess"
With his agreement he earned a loud squeal and a surprising hug from the mafia princess. "I can't believe it! We finally have an official date! Ohh I can't wait!" she squealed some more as she hugged him tightly, Kang San didn't know how to respond to her excitement so instead he embraced her back along with a nervous yet genuine smile. He was excited as she was, he just didn't know how to express it.
After Min-Jee had released him from her embrace Kang San tried his best to make the most charming smile he can make, but it seemed to have failed as she only giggled in response. "You're so cute when you do that!" she exclaimed while she pinched his cheeks. Her action made Kang San blushed so hard that his whole face turned red, earning another giggle from Min-Jee.
"So...I'll meet you tomorrow for our d-date then?" Kang San stammered.
Min-Jee once again giggled, she always thought Kang San was adorable when he was nervous, which he always was when he was around her. She had never meet a guy like him, all the guys she knew her age were stuck up rich boys who acted like jerks just because they had money. He was different, she could sense in him that he was rich but he wasn't a show off, she could also see that he wasn't cocky or rude like the guys she knew instead he was a shy and easily nervous type of guy. He was an odd kind of man and she liked it, she liked it very much, to the point that she was the one that asked him out.
Min-Jee made a sweet smile and nodded "I'll meet you at the old cupcake shop around 1 o'clock, is that okay?"
Kang San smiled and nodded as well. "I'll see you then!" she beamed and kissed him on the cheek before she skipped away. Kang San was in shock, he didn't expect that she'd kiss him. His mouth was open and his hand was placed on the spot where she placed her lips moments ago. Stunned by her action Kang San stood there, too frozen to move.
"What an odd girl" the words stumbled out of his mouth.
Woo Bin
"Why can't we just bring the doctors here? Why does Ga Eul have to return to Japan when clearly she doesn't want to?" Woo Bin argued. For hours they had been arguing on whether or not Ga Eul should go back to Japan or not and they can't seem to find an answer. The four of them debated so long that Jun Pyo, Jan Di and Ji Hoo had also arrived and joined in with the conversation, now everybody was having a scream match.
"How are you so sure that she doesn't want to come back?" the little lady asked him with frustration in her voice.
"Well in the first place she came back here in Korea! If she wanted to be in Japan she would have never left!" Yi Jeong countered.
"You don't know what she wants!"
"You don't either!"
"You are being selfish to her!"
"She needs this, she needs the treatments!"
"She needs us!"
"What can you give her?"
"Whatever she wants"
"Pshh! You can't heal her!"
"Oh and you can?"
"I know someone who can!"
And so on the argument kept going, everyone screaming at each other. Well except for the brooding man who leaned on the door, watching the chaos before him. He felt frustrated; he knew that their arguments are in vain, and that it was pointless to fight over it when they knew in the end it was still Ga Euls decision.
"Why don't you ask her what she wants instead of arguing about it?" he mentioned.
All eyes turned on him; everyone kept quiet as they all realized that Ji Hoo was right. It was still her decision, it was still her choice whether she wanted to go or not. "But-but she isn't in her right mind, right now. She's distraught and tired and we need to help her" Jan Di said, hands in her hair feeling very frustrated at what was happening.
"What she needs is to go back to Japan, her treatments are there, and so are her doctors." The man said also with frustration. Everyone seemed tired after the hours of screaming at each other as all of them began to settle down and sit, while Yi Jeong lay back in his bed. "We can bring her treatments here, we can find her better doctors" Yi Jeong managed to say.
The little lady made a deep sigh and closed her eyes, clenching and unclenching her fists. "She already has the best doctors! Didn't you think that we'd find her the best of care?"
"Okay fine, how about we just wait for her to decide before we start arguing again?" Woo Bin stated.
Everyone seemed to agree and so all of them replaced all the noise with awkward silence.
After everything that occurred, Woo Bin felt that it was time to give Yi Jeong the letter. He knew that it will only worsen the situation but he wanted the guilt out of his chest. He took out the piece of envelope from his coat jacket and asked everyone to give him and Yi Jeong a moment to talk. Everyone including the two strangers agreed and left the room, leaving him and the potter alone.
"Yo Woo Bin what is it?" Yi Jeong asked as he tried to sit up.
Woo Bin bit his lip and looked at the potter who patiently stared at him. He could see that Yi Jeong was tired, but he still tried to be awake, because he wanted to see Ga Eul when she wakes up. There were dark circles under his eyes and his face looked exhausted, looking at Yi Jeong made Woo Bin doubt if it was a right time to tell him about Ga Euls letter. 'No, this is the right time! You have to tell him or you'll be living with this guilt forever!' he thought as he came closer to the Casanova and made an uneasy smile.
"I'm so sorry for keeping this from you Yi Jeong, I just didn't know how you would handle it after Eun Jae" he mumbled as he handed the pink envelope to Yi Jeong .
Yi Jeong made a confused look and took the envelope from Woo Bin. "What's this? A love letter? For me! Ohhh Woo Bin you don't need to!" Yi Jeong joked as he chuckled. Woo Bin didn't laugh or smile at Yi Jeongs joke, making Yi Jeong feel a little uneasy.
"It's Ga Eul's letter for you five years ago, she asked me to give it to you but after I saw how you became a mess when she left, I just couldn't give it" Woo Bin explained.
Yi Jeong wore a shocked and confused look in his face as he examined the pink envelope; it did look old, it had a few creases and folded edges. Yi Jeong looked at his friend, he didn't know what to say or what to do and he didn't know what to feel. He slowly opened the letter and read what was written.
Once he was done reading, a few tears escaped his eyes. She had poured her heart out in that letter, Yi Jeong could feel it, every word she wrote felt like he was with her, holding her in his arms. He felt mixed emotions, love, and relief...anger? How could Woo Bin keep him from this? How his best friend could let him drown in all the pain and sorrow for years when he knew this letter could give him hope! That this letter could give him a chance of seeing her again? That this letter was his way of knowing that she would come back for him? Yi Jeong felt betrayed by his best friend for keeping this letter from him. 'Why Woo Bin? Why keep me from this? Is it to protect me? Or is it for your own selfish reasons?' He thought to himself as he glared at his best friend, anger prominent in his eyes.
Woo Bin looked at him with regret plastered all over his face as he waited for Yi Jeong to speak up. "Mianhe Yi Jeong" he said. He knew his apology couldn't make up for the years his best friend suffered without the knowledge of Ga Eul loving him, and leaving him with a reason but he didn't know what else to say.
Yi Jeong jaw clenched as he held the envelope tightly in his hands.
"Please tell me why Woo Bin? Is it because you love her?"
