Chapter Fourteen: Preliminaries Begin Uchiha vs Motomyia

Team 7 were jumping through the trees of the Forest of Death and they were almost at the centre of the forest where the tower was and the end of the exam was in sight for them all. They travelled in silence as Davis led the way through the tress as he thought back to the battle he had with the Sound Genin and the mark from Orochimaru's activation. As they jumped from branch to branch Davis sighed as he stopped jumping as the other members of the team did so as well.

"Alright guys, what's with the silent treatment?" He asked them crossing his arms and looking at his team who looked away from him as he sighed.

"You know what forget it." Davis said as he went to jump off and continue the journey.

"Davis hold on." Davis stopped and looked at Naruto who walked up to him. "We are sorry, it's just that when that mark that snake Orochimaru gave you activated, you just seemed different." Naruto said sadly as Davis nodded.

"Yeah I know, it felt like the chakra of Roken, Wisp and Glaciver was merging with the mark. But what's weird is that the power I felt was so good." Davis said as the other three looked at him.

"Davis are you okay?" Sakura asked him in concern as Davis looked at her as he shook his head.

"Uh yeah, I'm fine." Davis reassured his pink haired teammate.

"Maybe we should see Kakashi-Sensei or the Hokage when we arrive at the tower." Kiba suggested to the group as they all nodded their heads as they then resumed to jumping through the trees as soon the tower came into sight.

"Oh finally!" Davis shouted in relief as the other three members of the team shared a smile as they knew that Davis was back to his normal self as they jumped from the trees and landed by the entrance as they all entered the tower as they came upon well sized room that was empty except for two balconies and a portrait with several kanji on it.

Scratching his head Naruto asked his team. "What is it?" As Sakura walked up as she read the writing on it.

"If qualities of Heaven are your desire, acquire wisdom to climb ever higher. If Earthly qualities are what you lack, prepare your body and get ready to attack. When Heaven and Earth are opened together the perilous path shall become sacred forever. This something is the secret way that shall guide us from this place today." Sakura read as the three boys of Team 7 slumped and Akamaru whined.

"Great a riddle, but what does it mean?" Davis asked scratching his head as he read it over again. Sakura was mumbling to herself as she also tried to figure the meaning of the riddle out.

"Honestly, you guys are having this much trouble with it?" Wisp asked Davis mentally who nodded his head agreeing with the dragon who sighed.

"It's something to do with the scrolls, now hurry up. Also after this part of the exam we'll talk about the mark from Orochimaru." Wisp said spitting the name Orochimaru's like it was poison as Davis nodded and knew he was in for an ass chewing for using the marks power as he came back to reality and looked at his teammates as he took out both scrolls from his pocket and threw them into the centre of the room as they erupted a cloud of smoke as the four Genin gasped as a figure emerged from the smoke.

"Hey you guys, you made it." The figure said in a voice that earned a smile from everyone.

"Kakashi-Sensei!" They four of them exclaimed happily as the one eyed Joūnin eye smiled at them.

"Yeah it's me, I'm proud of you four you've past the second exam." Kakashi informed them as all four whooped in joy and Akamaru barked happily.

"Sensei what does the writing mean?" Sakura asked him as Kakashi looked at her but before he could answer Naruto interrupted.

"Who cares about that now, we've passed it doesn't matter anymore." Naruto said with a smile as Sakura sighed at the blondes antics as Kakashi coughed drawing everyone's attention.

"Well, the Hokage gave us order to explain the meanings behind these words, they are essential for Chūnin to know." Kakashi said as everyone nodded their heads in understanding as Kakashi continued. "First of all Heaven is your mind while earth is your body and as such, if Heaven is what you desire, acquire wisdom to climb ever higher. This means that if it is intellect in which you lack Naruto, Kiba then you should study hard and gain that intellect." Kakashi informed the Inuzuka and hyperactive blonde who both pouted as Sakura giggled until Kakashi turned his gaze to her. "Now Sakura if earthly qualities are what you lack the prepare your body and prepare to attack, this means if you have intellect yet lack physical strength train your body until you have said strength." Kakashi explained as Sakura chuckled nervously scratching her head. "When Heaven and earth are opened together the perilous path shall become sacred forever, meaning if you mind and body work as one then even the most dangerous of missions will become an easy one. Also that missing word is person which means all of you, these five day in the forest were to test you skills as Chūnin and to see if you were any good, and I've got to say you all did spectacular I am so proud of you guys, congratulations on passing this exam." Kakashi finished with an eye smile.

"Alright, who else has passed?" Kiba asked Kakashi.

"Well the sand team got here first without a scratch mind you, Gai's team, followed by Kurenai's squad." Kakashi said as he tried to recall who else had passed. "The team from the sound village as well, a team from the leaf as well, and now you guys but there is still a few hours to go so a few more could arrive." Kakashi informed them as they nodded.

"Is that everything?" Naruto asked his sensei who nodded as he reached for his book and opened it that was until Davis subtly reached for his neck as he tried to make it look like he was scratching his head but Kakashi wasn't a Joūnin for nothing as he picked up on it and frowned.

"So Orochimaru got you as well?" He thought to himself as Davis noticed the look.

"Hey sensei you alright?" He asked him snapping the one eyed Joūnin out of his thought.

"Huh, oh yeah I'm fine. Anyway I think you have all deserved a rest don't you?" He asked the group who all nodded their heads as Kakashi eye smiled and lead the group away towards a place where they could rest until the second exam would end. Kakashi led them towards a small room which had four beds set up.

"You guys can rest here, I'll come get you when the Hokage calls for all of the people who made it." Kakashi said as he disappeared in a puff of smoke.

"Well, I'm going go find Hinata see if she's alright then get some grub." Kiba said as he walked away with Akamaru atop his head.

"I'm going with you I'm hungry too." Naruto said running after the Inuzuka leaving Sakura and Davis alone. Davis turned and started to walk in the opposite direction as Sakura looked at him.

"Davis, where are you going?" The pinkette asked him curious as he stopped and turned and looked at her.

"The dragon wants to talk with me, go get some sleep I'll be fine." Davis said as he waved and left Sakura to herself as he walked through the tower as he saw the team of sand ninja as he and Gaara glared at each other in passing before going different ways. Davis then came upon the sound Genin and smirked as he walked over to them as he saw Zaku had his arm in a sling.

"How's your arm, still in two?" Davis asked as Zaku gulped as Dosu and Kin stood in front of their teammate as Davis chuckled and raised his arms no threateningly. "Relax, I'm not here to fight you guys, but rather for another reason." Davis said as he grabbed Dosu's collar. "Tell your master, I'm coming for him." Davis growled as he walked away leaving the three sound ninja sweating bullets Davis chuckled to himself as he found a quiet space in the tower and sat against the wall and closed his eyes.

"So what's this about?" He asked the dragon sitting atop Roken's head as the dragon flew through the sky.

"That mark that Orochimaru gave you, it gives off a tainted energy." Wisp explained as Davis nodded his head as he rubbed his neck.

"Ya think, it hurts like a bitch at times." Davis said as wisp nodded his head in understanding with the Jinchūriki.

"Indeed, what has happened cannot be undone but the good thing is I can help you." Wisp explained.

Davis looked at him confused as he asked "How I thought you said this could not be undone?" Wisp nodded his head.

"I did, but I can change the marks design, it'll stay the same to avoid suspicion but it will work differently from now on." Wisp said to Davis who nodded his head before he raised an eyebrow.

"Different how?" Davis asked as Wisp laughed slightly.

"The mark you can activate at will, and also it will act like a booster rocket giving you extra energy for as long as it is active." Wisp explained as Davis smiled liking the idea when Wisp spoke again. "However I can tell there is a second form to the one you used the last time, but I'll only activate it when you truly need it the first time after that it you can activate it willingly." Wisp explained as Davis nodded his head in thanks as he left his mindscape and looked up to see Kakashi standing in front of him.

"Yo." Davis waved as Kakashi looked at him.

"I've been looking for you, the Hokage has called everyone Asuma's team are the last here." Kakashi said as Davis nodded as he stood up and followed Kakashi.

"I know Orochimaru gave you the mark." Davis tensed as he rubbed his neck slightly.

"Yeah, and what else?" Davis asked the one eyed Joūnin.

"I came to warn you to not use the mark, it's dangerous Orochimaru is after you for some reason." Kakashi explained as Davis nodded his head.

"No offence sensei, but the dragon is already on it, but tell no one." Davis said to Kakashi who nodded as they made their way to a very large room where Davis saw all of the passing Genin teams along with his own standing in the centre of the room. He also looked to see the Hokage, Ibiki from the first exam, and also several Joūnin obviously the Sensei's of each team. Davis also noticed Kushina and Hikaru along with Anko who had a headset on.

"Hey Davis there you are." Kiba whispered to him as he nodded with a smile.

"Yeah, so was Sasuke's team the last ones here?" Davis asked the Inuzuka who nodded.

"So Kakashi I see you team made it, but against my students they are outmatched." Gai said to the one eyed Joūnin with a grin.

Kakashi then turned to Gai with a uninterested look. "What you say something Gai?" Gai's jaw dropped as he huffed and turned away.

"Oh you win this round Kakashi, you really grind my gears with your hip and uncool attitude." Gai thought as flames started to surround him in his anger.

"Hello Kakashi remember me?" Kushina asked him as his eyes widened as he looked at the redheaded woman.

"Kushina, I thought you were dead." Kakashi said in shock but before Kushina could answer Anko spoke up.

"Alright maggots, listen up the Hokage wants to speak to you." Anko said bowing to the Hokage who nodded.

"Thank you Anko." The Hokage said as he walked forward a bit as he looked at the of the Genin that had passed. "When Anko said she would cut the number in half she meant it, but twenty two Genin passed, I think she was expecting single digits, looks like we will need to do preliminaries for the first time in five years." The Hokage thought to himself as he coughed slightly. "Now then before I explain the third exam, I wish to explain something to you all, now pay attention now it's something you all need to understand. I am going to tell you all the Chūnin exams true purpose."the Hokage said confusing the Chūnin hopefuls.

"A true purpose?" Sakura thought to herself. As the Hokage started to speak again.

"Why do you think we hold these exams with our allies?" He asked the Genin as they all looked at the Hokage confused as he continued. "To strengthen shinobi and reinforce friendships between allied nations to be certain, but you must also understand it's true meaning, the exams are so to speak." The Hokage trailed off.

"So to speak?" Davis thought in confusion as the Hokage took a puff of his pipe as he shut his eyes before he opened them again.

"The exams represent battle between nations." The Hokage said.

"What do you mean?" Tenten asked him confused.

"What I mean is, these exams were created to show a villages strength without the needless loss of life that war would bring. Many nobles and Damiyo's attend these exams as guests, and they also seek out shinobi to work for them, the villages that do best during these exams will receive more job requests while the weaker villages will lose job requests, this exam is a chance for the nations to show their shinobi's strength and thus the nations strength." The Hokage explained as the Genin all looked at him still confused. "Now then for the third exam." The Hokage said as he was cut off as a woman jumped in front of him and kneeled.

"Apologies lord Hokage, but before you speak allow me the proctor of the third exam to speak first." The woman said.

"So be it." The Hokage said as the woman stood up with her back facing the Genin.

"It's nice to see you all, my name is Haku Momochi and I'm the proctor of the third exam." Haku turned to face the group as Davis's jaw dropped as he saw Haku wearing a Chūnin vest and blue pants with a white shirt under her vest and also she had a leaf headband around her neck.

"Haku?" He whispered as Haku smiled at them.

"Now then before the third exam, we've got a problem there is simply too many of you remaining, this means we will have to have a set of preliminaries bouts to narrow the field." Haku explained as Anko whispered something into her headset as the wall behind her opened up to reveal a giant screen as names started to appear before they stopped on two names.

"Alright first round of the preliminaries is Davis Motomyia vs Sasuke Uchiha, can everyone who is not these two please vacate the floor to the balconies please." Haku said as the other Genin left the floor and all moved up to the balconies as Davis and Sasuke looked at each other.

"So Kakashi your student versus mine, this'll be good." Asuma said to the one eyed Joūnin who nodded his head in agreement.

"Go Davis kick his ass!" Naruto called to Davis who nodded to him and gave him a thumbs up.

"You can do it Sasuke." Ino cried as Sasuke nodded disinterested.

"Alright are you two ready?" Haku asked as they both nodded. "Good begin." Haku motioned as she jumped backwards away from the battle.

"So think you can beat me?" Davis asked Sasuke who growled.

"I am an Uchiha, an elite shinobi you're nothing compared to me." Sasuke said activating his Sharingan which had two tomoe each.

"Yeah yeah, all bark without bite." Davis said as Sasuke frowned.

"Now are you going to fight, or are you going just talk?" Davis taunted him.

"I'll show you!" Sasuke shouted as he charged at Davis who just stood there as Sauske punched at him but Davis leaned to the side as Sasuke flew over him missing as he then came running back at Davis as they both started to engage each other in a Taijutsu battle while everyone else were amazed.

"Whoa this kid is holding his own against Sasuke, I've never seen that before." Asuma said in amazement as Sasuke jumped backwards and into the air as he did hand signs.

"FIRE STYLE: FIREBALL JUTSU." Sasuke exclaimed blowing a rather large fireball at Davis who smirked and did hand signs of his own.

"FIRE STYLE: DRAGON ROAR JUTSU." Davis blew a dragon shaped fireball at Sasuke's as the two fire attacks collided in a massive explosion.

"Impossible." Sasuke said as Davis blurred from sight and appeared behind Sasuke and punched him sending him skidding across the floor.

Tenten's eyes widened as did Gai's as Tenten said "Whoa he's as fast as Lee!" In amazement as Lee grinned.

"That is my eternal rival for you!" Lee shouted enthusiastically as everyone around him sweat dropped.

"FIRE STYLE: PHOENIX FIRE JUTSU." Sasuke shouted blowing several fireballs at Davis who using his speed avoided each one of them as Sasuke growled and threw several shuriken at Davis as Davis jumped to avoid them but the shuriken wrapped around him as Davis noticed ninja wire was attacked to them as he collapsed in a heap as Sasuke smirked as he did hand signs.

"FIRE STYLE: DRAGON FLAME JUTSU." Fire surrounded Sasuke as it them flew along a wire towards Davis and engulfed him.

"DAVIS!" Naruto, Kiba and Sakura shouted as Kakashi looked on in worry as Sauske smirked but that smirk vanished quickly as he saw Davis stand up and he saw that Davis wasn't hurt at all as the fire surrounded him in a circle but didn't touch him as everyone looked at him in shock especially Sasuke. Davis looked at himself and found he wasn't getting burned at all.

"What the heck?" He thought to himself.

"Quick Davis breathe in now." Roken told him as Davis nodded as he took a deep breath as the fire flew into his mouth surprising everyone.

"What the?" Naruto gasped in shock.

"Roken, I should've known." The nine tails said to Naruto mentally.

"What do you mean?" Naruto asked him back as he heard the fox sigh.

"Roken has a special ability, he can swallow fire like an Akimichi at an all you can eat buffet. And he can then use that fire against his opponents safe to say the Uchiha is screwed." The fox said with a laugh as Naruto saw Davis smirk as he did hand signs.

"Lets do this! FIRE STYLE: FIRE DRAGON ROAR!" Davis shouted as he raised his hands like a trumpet player and blew out a massive stream of fire that went directly towards Sasuke as everyone of the Genin and the Sensei's including Anko, Haku, Kushina and the Hokage were shocked.

"Such a jutsu, and what power." The Hokage thought to himself as Sasuke jumped out of the way of the attack as he charged at Davis who smirked and blurred from sight and kicked Sasuke high into the air as everyone gasped as Davis crouched and blurred again as he appeared behind Sasuke in his shadow.

"Dancing leaf shadow!" Gai shouted in shock as he looked at Kakashi.

"I didn't teach him that." Kakashi told Gai who looked up to see Davis grab Sasuke around his waist and he then started to spin around.

"And the Primary Lotus?!" Gai asked in shock as Davis and Sasuke plunged towards the ground and impacted sending stone and debris flying as Davis landed away from the crater and panted as Haku jumped towards Sasuke who was unconscious.

"Winner of the first preliminary round Davis Motomyia." Haku smiled as Davis cheered as everyone looked on in either shock, surprise or were happy.

"Alright Davis, way to go." Naruto said.

"You sure showed him." Kiba said as Akamaru barked in agreement with his owner as Sakura clapped while Kakashi gave him an eye smile.

"I can't believe Sasuke was beaten by Davis, he was the rookie of the year." Ino said in disbelief.

"Troublesome, if I have to fight him I'm giving up straight away." Shikamaru said as Gaara looked at Davis and smirked.

"He will prove my existence." Gaara said quietly but Temari and Kankuro heard him and gulped as Davis wobbled a but before he nearly collapsed when he saw Haku grab him.

"I've got you Davis, well done." She smiled at her boyfriend who smiled weakly back. Then suddenly they all heard a loud noise as a vortex appeared above them all as they heard a scream as they saw a woman with magenta hair fall through and towards the ground and Davis recognised her as his eyes widened in shock.

"JUN!" He shouted in shock as Hikaru leapt into the air and caught her and landed beside Davis and Haku.

"Hey you alright?" He asked her as she looked at him and blushed slightly.

"Yeah thanks." Jun said quietly as Hikaru blushed slightly as well.

"She's beautiful." He thought.

"Jun, what in the hell are you doing here!?" Davis asked her in shock and surprise as everyone looked at him as he face palmed.

"My big mouth." He muttered as he winced in pain as Kakashi jumped beside him and Haku handed him over.

"Come on Davis we need to get you checked out." Kakashi said as Davis nodded reluctantly as they both proofed away in a cloud of smoke as Hikaru held Jun bridal style.

"Hikaru take her to the hospital as well, Davis has some explaining to do." The Hokage said as Hikaru nodded as both he and jun vanished in a swirl of wind as well. The names on the screen started to spin again until they stopped.

"Alright, next match is Naruto Uzumaki vs Yoroi Akadō." Haku said as the two ninja jumped to the ground.

"Lets do this." Naruto said cracking his knuckles.

"Begin!" Haku shouted.
