Chapter 13

Jack opened the end of the bag and squinted his eyes slightly at the sudden light when he jumped back slightly startled. I looked over his shoulder and saw two toy-sized creatures in hat's that had bell's at the top peering into the bag, but only to shy away when they realized they couldn't stare anymore. Jack looked at me and motioned me out first. Of course now it's lady's first. I crawled out of the bag and blinked slowly as I took in the three beings in front of me; Slightly aware of Jack crawling out next to me.

"Hey! There zhey are! Jack Frost... and Girl vith Jack Frost!"

My jaw hung open slightly as I took in a colorful fluttering being, A large man with a long beard and tattoo's on his right and left forearm and a short golden man. I looked at Jack as he muttered under his breath so only I could hear.

"Wow, You've got to be kidding me." I nodded in agreement when suddenly we were tossed up by big furry monsters.

"Hey! Let go."

I stumbled slightly after the furry beasts dropped me. Regaining my balance I looked over at Jack who was just let go as he brushed a hand on the fabric of his hoodie, dusting off invisible lint.

" I hope zhe yetis treated you two vell?"

I scoffed as Jack laughed sarcastically and placed his staff on his right shoulder and took a step closer to me.

"Oh yeah! We love being shoved into giant sack's and tossed into magic portal in the middle of the night."

I bit my lip as the man with the tattoo's smiled in appreciation, un-aware of the use of sarcasm by the young winter spirit.

"Oh, good. That was my idea!." He waved a arm out towards the rabbit hybrid that had just appeared out of a tunnel and was leaning against a wooden beam.

"You know Bunny, obviously."

I scrunched my face up as I felt pressure begin to build up behind my nose, and pressed my face into Jack's left shoulder to try and stop the sneeze as Jack nodded in acknowledgement to the rabbit. Jack nudged me and mouthed 'You okay?'. I nodded and pulled away slightly as my face flushed with embarrassment when the fluttering being flew up to us.

"You know the Tooth Fairy. Toothiana."

"Hello Jack! I've heard a lot about you, and your teeth!"

Jack took a step back, bumping into me in the process as the be- as Tooth flew up into Jack's personal space to inspect his teeth.

"Are they as white as they say? Oh goodness! They really do sparkle like freshly fallen snow!" I laughed lightly at Jack as his mouth was pried open by the eccentric fairy's hands, when suddenly she turned to me and pried my own mouth open.

"Oh! Your teeth are soooo gorgeous! Not a cavity or filling! No gingivitis either! You floss regularly I se-"

"Tooth! Finger's out of girls mouth!"

She jumped back in surprise, then smiled sheepishly at me as she held her hands up in apology.

"Sorry! Didn't mean to pry, Your teeth are wonderful...?"

I stared at her slightly in shock as I felt my skin slightly crack at being forced open, not realizing she was asking for my name. I kept staring, still unaware of the awkward silence as everyone looked at me until I felt a hand on the small of my back. Jumping, I looked over my shoulder to see Jack looking at me with his eyes laced with concern. I looked around the room and bit my lip as my face flushed with embaressment as I realized they were all wanting my name.

"O-Oh! M-My name i-is Eva G-Grace." I looked down at my feet as my fingers played with the cuff's of my sweater's sleeves. Jack laughed lightly as he bumped me with his shoulder.

"Sorry, E. doesn't play with others much."I glared at Jack as the man with the tattoo's started laughing.

"Haha! Okay ve get back to introductions now! This is Sandman! Sandy?"

Jack and I looked down slightly to see a golden man asleep while floating lightly, sand sparkling as it floated around him.

"Sandy!" The man with tattoo's smacked Sandy's shoulder to wake him up.

"And me , Santa! Or North"

I gasped as I took in 'Santa' again. Long white beard, bright blue eyes, rosy cheeks and tattoo's. Everything was in place for Santa Clause except the tattoo's. I shook my head in disbelief.

" I didn't realize Santa had tattoo's! I mean, now I think I'll get one." I smiled broadly as North laughed and I looked over at Jack who looked at me strangely as his face took on a blue tint. I quirked an eyebrow at Jack which in turn caused him to shake his head and look at the spirits in front of him.

"Hey, ho, anyone wanna tell us why we're here?"

Our attention was drawn to Sandy and he started to shape symbols over his head slowly, but started to gain speed as he got further along with the story. As far as I could tell... I suck at charades. Jack looked over at me and chuckled at my confused expression as he waved a hand at Sandy.
"That's not really helping us, but thanks little man." Jack stood from his crouched position and walked over to one of the short creatures- An Elf I assume- holding a tray of cookies and froze the elf mid walk. I frowned as it fell onto it's side and bent over to pick it up as Jack walked pass it un-concerned.

"Must've done something really bad to get you four together. What pranking have we done lately E?" I looked at Jack and rolled my eyes at him as he smirked.

"I've done nothing, they're just probably trying to keep you from freezing Easter again." Jack chuckled but gasped when he realized who's prescense he was in.

" Are we on the Naughty list?"

North laughed heartily as he pointed to Jack and I.

"On Naughty list? Ha! You, Jack Frost, Hold record. Eva, on zee nice list."

I laughed loudly and pointed a finger at Jack.

"Told ya!" He stuck his tongue out at me as he put his left hand in the hood of his sweater as he walked up to me and bumped me roughly. I, in true mature form, stuck my tongue out at him in retaliation.

"But no matter we overlook. Now ve are wiping clean the slate."

"How come?" Jack quirked an eyebrow at North as he leaned against me.

"Good question." Bunny replied as he rolled his eyes. I sighed as I looked up at Jack who seemed just as exasperated as myself.

"How come?" North replied as if it was the biggest thing ever and he was offended that we didn't know.

"I tell you how come! Because now, You are Guardians!"

I jumped as two yetis held up torches and a mass of elves swarmed the floor, playing instruments and holding a pair of shoes and two humming bird fairy's carried a necklace over to me and placed it around my neck. I smiled in thanks and looked over at Jack, who had just backed away from a pair of bright blue pointy shoes. He looked at me and glared lightly as he saw me laughing at him, I shrugged but gasped loudly as the elves and yetis started to move towards us, the yetis twirling the torches like batons. I grabbed Jacks arm and pulled him behind me so the fire wouldn't get near him when suddenly he stumbled backwards, me going along with him. I gasped as his cerulean gaze bored into my electric, my heart beating rapidly from the close proximity and the excitement. Jack smiled at me, which in turn caused my stomach to do a large flip, when he was shoved by a yeti. I looked up to see the yetis pointing towards North who was marching in place, elves moving around as the fanfare grew louder. Jack wrapped his left arm around my waist, which in turn prompted a deeper blush as North opened a large book. Jack looked down at me, a frown set upon his features when suddenly a elf came up to me and held up a red, green and blue sweater. I shook my head as a frown set upon my face as well, this has gone on long enough. I looked back at Jack who nodded in silent agreement, he slammed his staff on the ground which caused the floor and elves to freeze, as I allowed my wings to shine brightly through the room. The Guardians looked up at us, startled by the sudden anger.

" What makes you all think we wanna be Guardians?" I crossed my arms and glared at them, my heart beating wildly and nodded in agreement with Jack. North stared at us, the large book held in front of him for a brief moment before he slammed it shut and started laughing.

"Of course you do. Music!" Jack growled and threw his hands out

"No! No music!" He glared at the four being in front of us as elves threw down their instruments and stormed off.

"This is all very flattering and all, but you don't want us." I sat on a railing as Jack jumped on a table, his staff over his shoulders.

"You're all hard work and deadlines, and I'm snowballs and fun times. I'm not a Guardian." I nodded in agreement as Jack took a seat next to me.
Bunny elbowed North and spoke, "Yeah, that's exactly what I said."

Tooth shook her head as she flew up to us, her eyes filled with concern.

"Jack, Eva. I don't think you understand what it is we do." Tooth placed her hand on Jack's shoulder as she turned him to face a large globe covered in lights. I looked over my shoulder at it, my stomach dropping at the sight of Tooth's hand on Jack's arm. I smiled to myself as she moved away from him to motion at the globe.

"Each of those lights are children who believe." I bit my lip lightly at the sight. That's alot of kids... I wish I had a globe of all of my kids...North grunted in agreement as he walked up to us.

" And good or bad, Naughty or nice. We protect them." I sighed as I looked up a Jack only to jump when I saw Tooth with her fingers in his mouth.

"Uhh, North?" He looked at me then at Jack and Tooth.

"Tooth! Fingers out of mouth." She pulled away and smiled bashfully.

"Sorry. They're beautiful." I rolled my eyes as she flew away and Jack walked over to me and nudged me slightly before looking back and North.

"Okay. No more vishy-vashy. Pitch is out there doing who knows what!" North motioned towards the globe in anger as he glared into space. I looked at Jack in confusion as he leaned against the railing next to me confused as well.

"You mean the Boogeyman?"

"Yes! When Pitch threatens us, he threatens them as well!" I stood abruptly as I looked at the globe, panic seizing my heart as I thought of my kids.

" That's all the more reason to pick someone more qualified! Eva already has kids to protect so she's good to go! Just not me!" I shook my head.

"But I won't do it unless you do Jack." I said softly as I stared at the globe, all I heard was silence in reply. Turning around, I saw Jack giving me an incredulous look.

"What Jack? I have to protect my kids either way, One job is just my kids, another is all kids. Either way good is being done." He shook his head as North interrupted.

"Pick? You think we pick who becomes Guardian? No, you two were chosen! Like we were all chosen!" He pointed up to a moonlight that showed the full Moon.

"By Man In Moon." Jack and I stopped staring at each other and turned towards the guardians in surprise.

"What?" Jack walked up next to me and placed his hand on the small of my back as if to anchor himself.

"Last night, He chose you two." I shook my head and glared up at the Moon. Of course, after a year of not talking to me and years of not talking to Jack, he suddenly decides to add some more stress to the pot.

"Man In the Moon... He talks to you?" I looked at Jack and my heart broke as I wrapped my arms around his left arm, he looked so lost a rejected. I bit my lip and I fought back my tears. Why won't he talk to us? Why didn't he tell us he had chosen us, out of the rest of the spirits.

"You see, you cannot say no. It is your destiny." My head snapped forward at the word destiny, my stomach burning in anger as I pulled away from Jack.

"Destiny? Destiny? If it was 'Destiny' Mr. Moon should have told us himself!" I felt Jack move away from me as he cursed under his breath.

"After 300 hundred years, this is his answer? To spend eternity like you guys? Locked up in some- some hideout thinking of new ways to bribe kids." Jack shook his head as he glared up at the moon, my gaze moving with his.

"No that's not for me!" I nodded my head in agreement with Jack but then stopped and turned to look at the Guardians.

"Of course, we mean no offense." Bunny blinked at me for a moment before growling angrily.

"How is that not offensive? You know, I think we just dodged two bullets. I mean-" I turned to look at Jack who walked away from Bunny.

"What does this Clown and his side kick know about bringing joy to children anyways?"

I clenched my teeth together as I glared at the rabbit, fully aware of Jack's gaze as he replied to Bunny's jeer.

"Have you ever heard of a snow day? Kids actually like what I dish out I mean, what's so good about a painted hard boiled egg compared to a good old snowball fight?"

The rabbit stood to his full height as he glared down at Jack who had just walked to my side, one hand clenched around his staff and the other in a closed fist.

"But none of them believe in you, do they? you see you two, you're invisible you are." I stood up straight and glared at the rabbit. How dare he!?

" It's like you two don't even exist." I bit my lip in anger and looked at Jack who's head was tilted down slight just as Tooth cut in.

"Bunny! Enough!" I shook my head as Jack spoke with disdain.

"No, the Kangaroo's right." I smirked as I finally figured out why Jack used that for him.

" The what? What did you call me? I am not a Kangaroo mate!" I laughed as I took a step in front of the Kangaroo and stared him in the eye.

" I believe he called you a Kangaroo, and I agree. I know it's hard to distinguish species sometimes, but if you're not a Kangaroo, then what are you? A Koala?"

The Kangaroo flattened his ears against his head as he bent down to get in my face.

"I'm a bunny sheila, The Easter Bunny! People believe in me, and don't forget about me." I gasped slightly and bit my lip when suddenly I felt pressure build up behind my nose. I looked to Jack as my eyes started to water at the pressure and saw that his face had darkened drastically as he glared at the Kangaroo. I looked back up at him when the pressure finally released, causing my sneeze to go right in his face.

"Achoo!"

I rubbed my nose as I backed away towards Jack who held back his laughter long enough to see if I was alright. Seeing my nod, he started to bust out laughing.

"I guess she's allergic to Kangaroo's." I smiled at Jack as North walked up to us.

"Jack , Eva. Walk with me."
