"I think we should contact Camp" I told Annabeth as we walked into our Potions class and sat down.
"Alright, but why?" Annabeth asked, pulling out her text book.
"Well more specifically, Lou Ellen" I said "I want to ask her something concerning magic and Harry"
"A daughter of Hecate?" Annabeth said to herself "That's actually a smart idea."
"Nico thought of it" I said.
"Okay. Do you want all of us to be there when you message her?" Annabeth asked.
"Sure." I said shrugging "How about after dinner we all go to the lake and message her. It will be late for us but with the time difference it should be in the afternoon for her"
"Great. I'll tell Thalia if you tell Nico" Annabeth said then looking at the board to see what potion we would be making today.
"Today we will be having a pop quiz on antidotes." Professor Slughorn said, eliciting a groan from the class.
"Now, now" Slughorn said "It is only a few questions. I will name a few ingredients and you will write down on your own sheet of parchment which poison it counteracts."
The class began pulling out their quills and pieces of parchment.
I looked over at Nico who had a smirk on his face as he pulled out his own parchment.
"Nico has such an advantage in this class I swear to Hera" I muttered as I wrote my name at the top of the parchment.
Annabeth laughed slightly while she rolled her eyes.
Slughorn then started listing off ingredients for antidotes. I scribbled down the ones I knew, but that still left two I was scratching my head over. I tried to remember what the ingredients counteracted before I finally wrote a few of the poisons Slughorn mentioned the previous day before turning in my quiz.
"The rest of the class you can use as a study period to do whatever you wish" Slughorn said with a smile as everyone started to either pull out other homework or start talking to their friends.
Thalia and Nico walked over and Thalia sat on the desk next to Annabeth while Nico pulled up an extra chair.
"Πρέπει να επικοινωνήσετε με την Lou Ellen" I said. (We need to contact Lou Ellen)
"Όταν? Και γιατί?" Thalia said, raising an eyebrow. (When? And why?)
"Μετά το δείπνο" Annabeth said. (After dinner)
"Ο Περσέας θέλει να κάνω Lou Ellen μια ερώτηση" Nico said. (Perseus wants to ask Lou Ellen a question)
"Εντάξει" Thalia said, crossing her arms. (Alright)
"So did you finish that star chart?" Annabeth asked Thalia and I raised my eyebrow. Annabeth's tone sounded very casual and almost in a forced way. I wondered slightly why Annabeth was acting this way and switching from Greek to English so quickly.
I looked into Annabeth's eyes and her gaze flickered to someone across the room. I quickly looked and saw Hermione staring at us and averted my gaze as to try and not lock eyes with her.
"Well the chart was easy. I could have done it in my sleep" Thalia said with a smirk "Though I can't say the other homework these teachers are giving me is as easy as that. I mean its not like I'm actually going to do half of it, but still."
"So any new developments for the Divination homework?" Thalia said looking at me and I could tell from her expression that she meant the prophecy.
"No. I am still stuck on a few things. But hopefully Annabeth can help me figure them out" I said and Thalia nodded.
Class ended quickly and we all started walking up the stairs to Charms.
ANNABETH
Hermione was a smart girl. Anyone with eyes could see that. But her keen eyes showed something many probably didn't pick up on. A tiny hint of suspicious shown in her eyes made me nervous.
Hecate warned us about revealing our true identities. She said we shouldn't unless we had to. Dumbledore, Professor McGonagall, and Snape all knew but no one else did.
Hermione wasn't stupid. Our behavior wasn't exactly normal and she would have noticed it. We needed to be more careful or else she would figure out our true identities.
Percy kept looking at me during Charms class. His expressive sea green eyes told me he was slightly confused by my actions in Potions class. Percy was sitting beside Nico who was beside Thalia, who I was sitting next to.
"Τι συμβαίνει?" he whispered to me when we walked out of Charms. (What's wrong?)
"Αργότερα" I whispered back. (Later)
Percy looked worried but I grabbed his hand and squeezed it slightly and he relaxed slightly.
We went to Divination and climbed up the silver ladder, taking our seats. Percy slid into the seat next to mine, while Thalia and Nico sat at the table next to us.
"Now, today we will be studying the art of palm reading." Professor Trelawney said "Take your partner's and and write down what their palm reading"
I took out the Divination textbook and Percy extended his hand towards me. I looked at his hand and saw the callouses from countless hours spent holding his sword, fighting and training.
"What do you see Wise Girl?" Percy asked with a smirk.
"Your head line is very feint, it looks like your head is in fact filled with seaweed" I said with a smirk.
"Your heart line also shows that you are extremely stubborn, and if it wasn't for your amazingly smart girlfriend you would probably be so lost even Mrs. O'Leary wouldn't be able to find you" I continued.
"Hardy-har-har" Percy said, rolling his eyes.
I wrote down what each of Percy's palm lines meant and then extended my hand out to him.
"Looks like your life line shows that your life would be so boring without your super handsome, heroic, and all around amazing boyfriend." Percy said with a sly smirk.
"Actually I think my life line says it would be so much easier, because I wouldn't have to save his sorry butt all the time" I said jokingly.
"Oh really?" Percy said raising an eyebrow.
Professor Trelawney then walked over to our table.
"How is everything?" she asked.
"Oh..fine..I guess" I said.
She nodded and turned to Nico and Thalia's table.
"Let me see your palm child" Trelawney said to Nico who shook his head.
"No way in Ha-" Nico started to say before the Divination Professor just grabbed his hand.
"Oh my child...your heart line says you lost someone close to you. Perhaps a family member? It looks like that death caused great pain." she said and I could see Nico tense up.
"And your life line...this can't be correct...its...longer than it should be...I think you will live for a long, long time, but this conflicts with your fate line. It's curve means that death will follow you..." she said before Nico ripped his hand from her grasp.
He stormed out of the room and slammed the door behind him.
NICO
I was angry.
That..that woman who thought she could see into the future grabbed my hand and...and...
I saw the shadows in one of the corridors and allowed them to envelope me. I traveled to the Forbidden Forest and sat under one of the trees, pulling out my iPod hitting shuffle and putting the earbuds in my ears.
There's gotta be another way out
I've been stuck in a cage with my doubt
I've tried forever getting out on my own.
But every time I do this my way
I get caught in the lies of the enemy
I lay my troubles down
I'm ready for you now.
I sigh as I lean against the tree and close my eyes. The things that professor said...they were all scarily true. The death that haunts me, my life line being longer than it should, death following me...it was all true.
Bianca's death was something I carried with me everyday. The fact I am over seventy even though I don't look over fifteen, my own father being the Lord of the freaking Underworld.
I don't wanna be incomplete
I remember what you said to me
I don't have to fight alone
I slam my fist on the forest floor as I remember what Luna said to me earlier today. I needed to try and be more open but I couldn't even face some of my own problems, how can I open up?
I pull out the iPod and move through the songs until I find the one I haven't heard since she died and hit play. I brace myself for the rush of emotions that is sure to take me once the melody starts.
I'll be right here now
to hold you when the sky falls down
I will always
be the One who took your place
When the rain falls
I won't let go
I'll be right here
I remember when she heard it one day after school and loved it so much. I would always catch her humming it sometimes and when I got this iPod I couldn't help but put this song on there even though it reminded me so much of her.
When daybreak seems so far away
reach for my hand
When hope and peace begin to fray
still I will stand
The song faded out a short time later and I stood up as the next song started to play.
This one was her second favorite and she loved it so much I swear she could write down the lyrics in her sleep. Even though it was a cover of another song she still loved it wholeheartedly.
Just close your eyes
The sun is going down
You'll be alright
No one can hurt you now
Come morning light
You and I'll be safe and sound
I walked out of the forest, putting my hands in my pockets and turning up the volume on my music.
Don't you dare look out your window, darling,
Everything's on fire
The war outside our door keeps raging on
Hold on to this lullaby
Even when music's gone
Gone
I took a deep breath as the song continued and I sunk into the memory of Bianca singing this song softly as she brushed her hair while I sat beside her and listened. She would usually ruffle my hair and call me silly for wanting to listen to her, but I didn't care.
I reached the castle when the music finally faded out and I turned off my iPod and took the earbuds out of my ears.
HARRY
"What the hell lady!" Percy yelled, standing up so fast it knocked his chair over.
"Excuse me?" Professor Trelawney questioned.
"You don't do that to someone!" Percy shouted throwing his hands in the air.
"Do what?" Professor Trelawney said and Annabeth sighed standing up as well.
"You don't have any idea what you just did, do you?" she said.
"I only spoke of what his palm told me" Professor Trelawney said.
"Well good for you!" Thalia said standing up as well.
"That kid has been through a lot of crap and so have all of us but that doesn't give you the right to start shoving it all right in his face!" Thalia fumed.
"I only read the boy's palm" Professor Trelawney said.
"And brought up a lot of painful memories for him!" Percy yelled.
"Goodbye Professor" Annabeth said, grabbing her books as all three of them stormed out of the classroom, leaving a shocked Professor Trelawney standing in the middle of the room.
"Well that was interesting" Ron muttered as everyone started to talk about what they just saw while Professor Trelawney tried to reign in her remaining students.
Class ended and everyone rushed out of the class to tell other people about how the American exchange students had freaked out in Divination.
I saw Hermione walking towards me and Ron and I told her what had happened.
"They just walked out?" Hermione said, a little shocked.
"You did the same thing in our third year...and a few weeks ago" Ron said.
"I know, but...I guess they were even closer than I had thought" Hermione said, tapping her chin as she looked deep in thought.
"What exactly did Trelawney say again?" she asked.
"Um that Nico had a death of a family member, and his life line was way too long, and death follows him or something..." I said.
"You are actually going to believe her? That woman is completely raving mad!" Ron exclaimed.
"But she said something that was true enough to cause that reaction in all of them." Hermione said.
"So what does that all mean?" Ron said.
"I don't know..I think I need to go to-" Hermione started to saybefore Ron finished her sentence.
"The library, we know." Ron said.
"Well while you both are stuffing your faces at lunch I am actually going to be doing something productive" Hermione retorted.
"We will help you" I said earning a happy look from Hermione and an shocked one from Ron.
"But lunch!" he cried out.
"Hermione is practically doing all the research here...it isn't really fair" I said.
"Thank you Harry" Hermione said smiling at me "We better get going if we want to get anything done before Defense Against the Dark Arts"
Ron groaned as we headed to the library
PERCY
I was mad. Seriously mad. Nico was just starting to seem like the kid I had saved in Maine. But then that Divinations professo had to go and bring up the one subject that always shut him down.
His sister.
"I swear these wizards are going to fry if they keep pissing me off like this!" Thalia yelled and I heard the thunder off in the distance.
"Don't kill anyone Thalia. We need to find Nico." Annabeth said as we walked through the castle.
"That boy could be anywhere! He could have shadow traveled half way around the world by now!" Thalia said.
"I don't think he would leave" I said "This is a quest and I don't think he would abandon us"
"I didn't say that" Thalia said "I mean he could leave and be anywhere were there are freaking shadows and come back whenever he freaking pleased"
"What are you all talking about?" I heard Nico asked, as we all turned around to see him walking into the castle.
"Nico!" I exclaimed "Are you alright?"
"I'm fine" Nico said.
"Are you sure?" Thalia asked.
"You guys don't have to treat me like glass. I'm fine" Nico said walking up to us.
"But Trelawney-"I started to say.
"Said some things and I got over them. No big deal." Nico said, holding up his hand and stopping me "I've had to deal with worse tragedies. Like when they changed the happy meal box to look like a demon. I mean I've seen some monsters in the Underworld with faces that were less scary than that abomination."
"Now let's get some lunch. I did use some shadow travel so now I'm starved" he said turning to start walking to the Hall as we all followed him.
HERMIONE
"I need you two to read these books" I said putting the pile in front of Harry and Ron.
"All of them!?" Ron exclaimed as I sighed and rolled my eyes.
"Only read the chapters about American wizards. These books are all on foreign wizard countries" I said pulling out a book I was using to research water magic.
"Why are you reading that one?" Harry asked.
"Remember in Charms class. Percy wasn't wet when Edward's spell hit him. Even though it was short. It was unusual, so I am researching water magic and spells."
"Okay" Harry said picking up a book and flipping through it while Ron did the same, but with an expression that was similar to a dying animal.
I sighed and turned back to the pages of my own book.
...Water repellent spells are very popular. The ability to remain dry no matter the amount of water is very appealing to wizards in rainy countries. The spell itself is simple to preform.
Simply say "Aqueous Dimissem" and preform the motion depicted below.
I looked at the illustration and saw the simple flick that looked like a circle motion around the air above the wizard.
Once cast, the user will be unable to get wet until the counter curse is used. Which is "Aqueous Recursus" and use the same motion as depicted above.
I sighed, putting the book down.
"Did you find anything?" Ron asked.
"No..I mean maybe...Its just there is a fairly simple spell he could have used to make it so he didn't get wet" I said.
"So there was nothing fishy going on?" Ron said.
"No...its just the counter curse...the one to lift the effects of the water repellent spell..he didn't use it..." I said.
"Maybe he used wandless magic?" Harry suggested.
"No...that's extremely difficult Harry." I said.
"Who's to say he can't do it then?" Ron countered.
"But he didn't seem the most...capable.. at magic" Harry said.
"Maybe its all an act!" Ron said.
"But why use that ability to make himself soaked? It doesn't make any sense. If he remained dry, he could have just said he used a water repellent spell and I probably wouldn't have thought about it again. But the fact he was dry for one second and wet the next makes no sense" I said.
"Ahh Miss Granger" Madame Pince said walking towards us.
"Hello Madame Pince" I said smiling.
"I just wanted to let you know how the books you checked out a few weeks ago are almost due" she said.
"Oh yes. I'll bring those by right away" I said.
"Thank you. And might I ask if the Greek Mythology book had what you were looking for" she said.
"Yes. Thank you for showing me that one. It was really helpful and interesting" I said.
"The Greek Mythology book you used to research Percy's name?" Ron asked.
"Yes. And it just showed me how messed up that religion was as well" I said.
"What was so bad about it?" Harry asked.
"Well for one the King of the gods, Zeus, overthrew his father by chopping up into little pieces and throwing them into the deepest pit of Tarturus, the Greek version of hell." I said.
"That's messed up" Ron said.
"That's only scratching the surface." I said, shaking my head and turning back to my book.
