Weeks had passed since Ami had heard anything. She threw herself into her work, taking extra hours. Working herself into a mental numbness, trying to keep her mind off the fact that she had not heard anything from her brother and his friends. One night after taking double shifts she was walking home from work and heard a hollow. The scream of torment told her exactly where it was at. She quickly ran the rest of the way home and left her body in bed and traced the hollow. She made quick work of it when she stopped suddenly and felt a major change in spirit energy. With a gasp, she whirled around and felt strong spirit energy. Captain level, one of them Byakuya and others she didn't recognize. With a flash step, she headed into the direction. Within a few minutes, she arrived at their location. Her heart in her throat she saw him. Intensely concentrating. Grandfather was there as well, she went to his side and asked, "What is happening?" Uruhara answered, "Aizen is planning to destroy Karakura town and we must prevent it. We are switching the real town for a decoy." She nodded.
Days later, Ami felt intense fear and anxiety. The fight finally came to them, many high level Soul Reapers were injured and being forced by Yoruichi and Uruhara was not at the front line but with her sisters. Thinking back about the conversation she remembered what her grandmother told her. "Aizen and his Espada are incredibly powerful, if this should fail we need you to protect your sisters." She had protested. "But I could help, I am captain level. I could better help if I was able to fight." Uruhara spoke up, "Granddaughter, no. It's bad enough we have to watch Ichigo fight. I forbid you to get involved. It's enough that Yuzu and Karin need to be protected. Do you understand?" Ami pursed her mouth, angry that she was being shoved aside yet again but nodded. "Very well. I will do what you say." What made her worry that much worse was that she couldn't sense Byakuya. She kept telling herself that he was in Soul Society but couldn't stop worrying.
