A/N: Whew, its been a long time since I last updated. Sorry. Life has been busy but that's no excuse, and there will not be such a long wait for the next chapter. I have a few things to tell all of you: first off, I have planned the story up to Chapter 25 but the story doesn't end there, I think there will be about three chapters after that. I just know the outline for each chapter till then and I know how it will end. Lots of drama coming up. Fair warning. Secondly, don't think of this Naley month as dating, at least not in the formal sense of the word.
Then lastly, thank you for all the reviews. I appreciate that people are making an effort to review more. Please keep it up!
I hope you enjoy this, I wanted something from the boys point of view.
Please keep reviewing!
Chapter 14: All about the Boys
Nathan felt a small hand wrap around his arm. He had been trying to fall asleep but just couldn't, he looked over at Haley and smiled. He had to do a lot of convincing to get her to agree to let him sleep over tonight. This past week they had both been so busy that they had barely managed to see each other, which frustrated him beyond anything. So, he had pitched up tonight and was determined to stay. He shifted a bit and when he did, he felt a sharp pinch. It's happening again. Nathan thought to himself and put his hand over Haley's hand, easing her grip on his arm. She was digging her nails into it again. It had happened the last time Nathan had stayed over. He had shrugged off it then, but he wasn't sure if he should do that now.
'Hales,' he said softly and ran a hand through her hair. She stirred and slowly opened her eyes, and then she shot up. Nathan turned and switched a bedside lamp on. He looked at her, her forehead was creased and she looked flushed. 'You ok?' Nathan asked her seriously. She didn't say anything for a moment.
'Nate, why did you wake me up?' she finally replied grumpily, he gave a small smile at that.
'You were digging your nails into my arm again,' he said seriously and stuck out his arm for her to see. Haley looked embarrassed.
'Sorry-'
'Hales, you don't need to apologise. I just want to know what you keep dreaming about?' She shifted uncomfortably at the question and then got out of her bed.
'I don't remember,' she lied uneasily. 'I'm just going to go get some water.' She added and left quickly. Nathan didn't buy it for one second that she couldn't remember her dreams. He had thought back to the time when she was helping him fill out all those forms. She had fallen asleep and he had noticed how uneasy she looked and how she had dug her nails into her own palm. What's more, she had done it now twice to him. This wasn't an odd occurrence, something was bugging her. He sighed and contemplated pushing the topic but he thought better of it when she entered the room again. She looked so tired, so worn out.
'Come here,' he said and Haley obligingly got back into the bed. He had kept their encounters this past week and a half really PG13, he didn't want to rush anything or make it seem like he was only after the physical contact. He hadn't even kissed her, although he desperately wanted too. When they got into bed together they literally slept, something Haley was sceptical about, in the beginning. She didn't think they could be in bed together and not do anything. But as she got back into the bed now, he immediately pulled her towards him. 'Go back to sleep. I'm sorry I woke you.' He added in a gentle voice, he then placed a kiss on her forehead. It was the most intimate action he had done the whole week; Haley sighed at the action and snuggled more into him. He turned the light off and then very carefully he slipped his one hand under the back of her top. He could feel her stiffen, for a moment, at the contact but she quickly relaxed. He began to draw circles on the small of her back, it was something he learnt would swiftly put her to sleep. He did it once when they were watching a movie together and she was out like a light in less than five minutes. Sure enough, a few minutes later her breathing had changed and Nathan knew she was asleep. He kept drawing the pattern on her back though; the action was slowly making him drowsy…
Lucas kept his eyes fixed firmly ahead and tried very hard to concentrate on one thing only. In a matter of minutes he was meeting up with Hannah and he wanted to feel more excited than he was feeling now. He figured once he actually saw her, that it would all change and he would feel excited or happy or anything other than what he was feeling now. He had just crossed the street when he stopped dead, he had seen someone who had looked exactly like Brooke from the back. When the girl had turned around though, it was clear it wasn't her. It took him a few seconds to regain himself but once he had he quickly moved on. But for a moment he couldn't prevent his mind going back to the last moment he had spent with Brooke.
'Last question, Lucas,' Brooke had held her voice steady. 'What are you going to do about Hannah? Does she change things between us?'
'I have to see her, Brooke.' He had finally replied and watched as tears spilled down her cheeks. He didn't have a chance to say anything else to her because she immediately turned and left.
Luke remembered standing there, staring at the door as though willing Brooke to turn around and walk back through it. Since that night he hadn't spoken to her, he had tried but she wouldn't let him. She had flat out told him that she didn't want to see him for any reason, and then she threw his robe back at him. Currently, the only person giving him any time of day out of their friends was Haley. She had heard him out, although, she wasn't pleased with how he handled the situation she at least wasn't punishing him for it. Nathan, as Luke had expected, had heard about Brooke and his over protective nature had kicked in. He had made it very clear that he should just stay away from her and him for the time being. Luke ran a hand through his hair in frustration and stopped himself from thinking about it any more. Time would, hopefully, sort everything out. He walked into the coffee shop and there sitting at table was Hannah. She looked up when he entered and for a moment Luke just took in her blonde hair and green eyes and that all consuming smile she was currently giving him. He walked over to her, gave her a kiss on the cheek and sat down.
'Hi,' she finally broke the silence and her smile grew even wider. Luke smiled back.
'Hi,' he replied. He still thought he would have been happier once he saw her but he figured the stress of the past week and a bit had just gotten to him and dulled his emotions. 'So, what brings you to this part of the world?' Luke finally spoke again and gave her the best smile he could muster. He was resolved to fully just concentrate on her, this girl who had captivated him a mere summer ago.
'Why, you, Lucas Scott.'
Nathan checked the time and then checked his phone. He smiled when he saw he had a message from Haley, she had sent it quite awhile ago. He then groaned when he read the contents, he wanted them to do something tonight but she had replied that she had a ton of work to do. He sighed, this spending time with her thing, was proving to be more difficult than he had anticipated. This frustrated him because every moment he had spent with her, made him want to see her even more. It was a change to be with Haley when she was just smiling and laughing and having fun. Their past encounters had certainly been quite intense. He sighed but resolved to let tonight go and decided to just head back to his room. But he stopped dead when he got to his door, standing a few feet away from him was Haley. She was holding a lot of books and a bag of Chinese food.
'Hi,' she said to him and he walked over to her.
'Hales, I thought I wasn't seeing you tonight?' Nathan watched as she shifted a bit, he couldn't stop the smile that was spreading across his face currently. It was the best surprise to see her here. 'I know and if you've made other plans-'
'I haven't,' he quickly cut her off and then took the books she was holding from her. He began to open his door.
'I really do have to do some work tonight, but I figured we could eat some Chinese and then I could do my work here or go back to my room-'
'Hales,' Nathan turned around to face her when they had entered his room. 'Why are you rambling?' she laughed and put the food down.
'I don't know.' He walked over to her and fixed her with an extremely cheeky smirk.
'Are you nervous?' he asked and took a step closer to her.
'Why would I be?' Haley replied.
'Because you changed your mind about tonight?' Nathan watched as she scrunched her eyebrows at him.
'What are you implying, Nate?' she asked as casually as she could.
'That you like spending time with me.' She laughed and smacked his arm lightly.
'Let's just eat.' She responded but before she could walk away, Nathan had ran a hand down her arm, he watched as her arm got goosebumps all over.
'You sure I don't make you nervous?' He asked her once again and smiled broadly.
'Nathan Scott, I am about to leave.' He laughed at the reply and stepped out of her way.
'Thanks for getting dinner, Hales.' he added a minute later. A part of him was very conscious of the fact that this was the first time Haley had initiated them spending time together. She had always gone along with the plans but it was always him who had made them in the first place. But here she was, after originally saying no, in his room with dinner and she seemed fully intent on spending an evening with him. Even if a part of it would have to be quiet and boring, right now, nothing else in the world made him happier.
Luke considered everything Hannah had just told him. She would be sticking around for awhile; she was even considering moving to Duke. He wasn't a hundred percent sure how he felt about this, but for the first time this week he felt content. Like everything would just sort itself out. He couldn't help but feel like maybe the universe was interfering here, and there was a reason that Hannah had just walked back into his life. His mind drifted back to when she held his hand earlier in the evening, it had felt nice. The entire evening had been pleasant. His mind was rerunning the night's events when he suddenly felt someone knock into him.
'Oh come on,' a familiar voice said. He looked down and found himself staring at Brooke.
'Brooke,' Luke said awkwardly. 'Sorry about that. I wasn't paying attention.' She didn't say anything; she merely wiped her hand on her jeans. Her drink had spilled when she and Luke had collided.
'My fault too,' she finally said and caught his gaze. Luke stared at her and absentmindedly took a step closer to her. 'See you around.' Brooke added. This situation was clearly uncomfortable for her, and Luke figured she didn't want to stand there experiencing it any longer, but that didn't mean he wanted her to go.
'Wait!'Luke had said before he had even realised he had. Brooke turned back to him. She gave him an expectant look. He didn't know what to say next so he blurted out the first thing that came to his mind. 'How are you?' he asked her softly. Why was he doing this? Why was he stalling Brooke? She titled her head at him and her eyes grew, then she shook her head slightly at him.
'That's something you don't need to worry about any more.' Brooke said softly but harshly and then she walked away. Lucas didn't know which stung more her words or watching her walk away again. He sighed. What the hell was the universe trying to pull? What was going on with him? He knew he had wanted to see Hannah and the night had been easy. But when he thought of Brooke he hurt. He stopped his mind from over thinking and continued back to his room. After all, he figured, what would happen, would undoubtedly happen.
Nathan watched as Haley yawned, stretched out and shut her book. They both had some work they needed to get through, but they had spent most of the night not working. Which meant when eleven pm. came along they had reluctantly sat down to do some of it. Nathan had stopped after an hour and half but Haley had carried on for an extra hour.
'It's later than I thought it was,' she said and Nathan noticed the serious look she was giving him. 'You should have kicked me out an hour ago!' She exclaimed making Nathan laugh.
'Why would I do that, Hales?'
'I'm no expert but I'm pretty sure pro-athletes need to get a solid night of sleep.'
'Hey, my earliest lecture tomorrow is only at 10:30,' Nathan replied and shrugged. He actually hardly ever went to bed earlier than midnight. He looked back at Haley and noticed that she was now scowling at him.
'Why do you never have early classes?'
'Luck I guess-'
'Oh, sure, luck! I'm sure being Nathan Scott had nothing to do with it.' Nathan laughed and threw his hands up in the air.
'Hales, you get grumpy when you're tired.' She sighed, shook her head and began packing up some of her books. 'Hales,' Nathan started, standing up and grabbing her one hand. 'You can pack all of this stuff up tomorrow morning.'
'But Nate, I was just going to go back to my room.'
'Why would you do that?' Nathan asked her. Apparently she was still not comfortable with the whole-staying-over-thing, which was silly, because they had slept over at each other's places enough times now, it frustrated him a bit. Except, when Nathan properly turned his attention back to her, he noticed she looked nervous and a bit embarrassed. 'Hales?' he edged her on.
'It's just,' Nathan waited patiently, as she took her time to answer. Eventually to spur her on, he squeezed the hand he was holding and pulled her closer to him. 'It's just…I don't want to wake you up again.' Nathan was now genuinely confused. He shook his head, indicating she should elaborate. 'By digging my nails into your arm again.' Nathan pulled her even closer to him and put his hands on her upper arms.
'Hales, you really don't have to worry about that.'
'I still think it would be better if I go.'
'I don't. I think, what would be best is if you told me what you were dreaming about, that causes you to stress so much.' He could feel her stiffen, instinctively he ran his one hand up her arm and rested it at the back of her neck, his fingers entangling in her hair. She wasn't saying anything. 'I know you remember them.' He added firmly, he was tired of waiting for her to tell him, he just wanted to know now. He held her gaze and then she tilted her head, bit her lip and then gave him a small nod.
'Ok, Nate, I will tell you, if you promise not to freak out or make a big deal about it.' Nathan didn't like the sound of that, but he reluctantly agreed and he would stick to his promise.
'Sometimes, I have these nightmares where I replay what happened with Drew,' Nathan flinched slightly but didn't interrupt her, 'but in them you aren't there to stop him. And during it it feels so real, like I can feel every touch and kiss-' she broke off. Nathan, who still had one hand on her arm and the other at the back of her neck, pulled her to him and wrapped his arms around her. She rested her head on his chest and he felt her wrap her arms around him. He had a million thoughts running through his head and wanted to ask her so many things, but he didn't right now he just kept hugging her.
'I will always be there, Hales.' Nathan said into the top of her head. He pulled back and looked down at her, he desperately wanted to pull her into a kiss, a soft slow kiss. So she could know how much he meant it, but he didn't. In the long-run the lack of physical contact would serve them better. 'Come on let's go to bed.' Nathan added and took her hand, she didn't protest and in a few minutes they were in bed together and a few minutes later they were fast asleep. Except, Nathan concerned for Haley, kept waking up during the night to check on her. But surprisingly he found she didn't once tense or dig her nails into her palm or his arms.
