Hi guys! Sorry for the long wait but this is the end of this story.
"What are those two up to?" Steve hefted his son's body closer to his chest as he watched his wife and her best friend with their heads close together while they perused some kind of paper. He had long since accepted that they had a connection that he would never be able to understand and have finally held himself back from his roaring jealousy.
"What they always do," the redhead beside him shrugged as she glanced back at Talia and Bruce. "How's James this morning?" she asked as she ran her hand through the boy's messy auburn hair.
"He had a fever last night but it broke this morning," Steve relayed to his long time friend.
"I'm sorry James," Natasha said and the boy smiled back at his aunt before turning his head towards his father's neck.
"Now, now, what is ailing my favorite godson?" the soft silky voice of one God of Mischief reached them before the man did. Both Avengers looked up to find Loki walking towards them wearing black slacks and a green shirt that matched his eyes.
"Loki," Steve greeted.
"Rogers," the God nodded at the blond. "May I?" he gestured to the boy that had become his godson. Steve nodded and whispered in his son's ear.
"Do you want to go with Uncle Loki?" James nodded and Steve passed the boy to his godfather.
"Tell me, what's the matter little prince?" Loki asked as soon as the boy was in his arms. Steve watched fondly as the man who once tried to rule Earth cuddled his son close to his chest.
"He's changed a lot, hasn't he?" Natasha noted as she too watched the endearing scene. Steve nodded as he thought back to the day he first spoke to Loki about protecting his then-girlfriend and unborn son.
"Bruce?" Steve called out to the man who was his girlfriend's best friend. The doctor looked up from the tablet he'd been using to monitor both Talia's and Loki's conditions.
"Steve." he nodded at the younger-looking man.
"I would like to speak to Loki." Bruce looked at the God turned child for confirmation but Loki wasn't paying attention to him. He was busy coloring in a book that Bruce had given him.
"Loki?" Bruce called out to the boy. Wide green eyes turned to Bruce at the sound of his name. "Steve would like to talk to you, is that okay?" Loki turned his attention to the soldier standing at attention by the foot of his bed. He watched Steve for a long moment before he nodded at Bruce. "I'll be at the other side of the door if you need me." Loki just nodded at Bruce but kept his eyes on Steve.
"Thank you for saving Talia and our baby." Steve said once Bruce was gone. Loki just nodded at him. "Why did you do it?" Loki was quiet for a long while before he spoke.
"She saved me." Steve looked at the sincerity in his eyes and he couldn't deny that there was an innocence in the boy he never knew the older Loki could possess.
"Did you know she was pregnant?" Steve asked and the boy nodded.
"I saw it in her memories," Loki blushed. "You were celebrating your anniversary." Steve blushed as he was reminded of the night they had apparently created their child.
"Thank you." Steve said once again in an attempt to change the topic. He was a little embarrassed that someone other than him and Talia had seen those memories but at the same time he knew there was no other way around it.
"What's going to happen to me now?" Loki asked after a long while and Steve smiled.
"Bruce and Talia will figure it out."
"And in the mean time?"
"We'll have to talk to Tony but I'm quite sure you will have a place here." that made Loki smile. "I'll bring Talia here when she wakes." Loki nodded then went back to his coloring and Steve turned to leave. He had not expected their talk to go as well as it did but he was happy nonetheless at the way it turned out.
Once Talia was back to her one hundred percent, she and Bruce worked together to find a cure for Loki but there were a few setbacks. Loki's magic as a Jotun interfered with a lot of the procedures Bruce and Talia had tried and she was well into her second trimester before they even had a breakthrough. By then, even Loki was part of the crew that was making sure that she did not push herself too hard lest she endanger herself or her unborn child. It seemed as if that was what they needed for a few weeks shy of Talia's due date Loki was returned to his older self with the use of an antidote to the antidote that they had used for Sigyn's poison. Bruce and Talia had managed to reverse engineer the process that they had used to create the first antidote and tailor it to Loki's biology. As it was, two weeks before Talia gave birth to James, the God of Mischief was returned to his adult form. Once that was done, it was Loki's turn to repay Talia for everything she had done for them. Three days later and she was wed to Steve.
"Where are we going?" Talia asked Pepper who had been tasked to bring her to the venue.
"Girls' day out," the ginger said as she set Carina in her car seat and helped her heavily pregnant sister-in-law beside her daughter. "You and Bruce have been working so hard to bring Loki back, Tony decided we should have a day out."
"Where's Natasha?"
"She'll be here soon." just as she said it, the other redhead appeared carrying three dresses with her.
"What's that for?" Talia continued to ask, suspicion rising as the two acted very elusive.
"I have no idea what goes on through your twin brother's mind and I'd much rather not find out." Natasha answered as she hung the dressed in the back of Pepper's SUV.
"Come on, we're going to be late to our appointment." Pepper said and the three women and one baby girl were off to who-knows-where. Though suspicious of her sister-in-law and friend all thoughts of schemes were gone when they were all treated to a spa-day. Even Carina was well-taken care of in the hotel's spa. They had mani-pedi's and were treated to massages, a pregnancy-approved one for Talia, before they went back to stay at their hotel room. Their vacation was for the whole weekend and even though she had enjoyed herself, Talia missed her boyfriend. She fell asleep that night with thoughts of Steve in her mind.
The next day, Talia was woken by Natasha who told her to get ready for another girls' day out. She had absolutely no idea where they were going but she had been told by the redhead to wear one of the dresses she had brought the day before. When she came out of the bathroom Pepper and Natasha were already wearing their white sundresses and even Carina was wearing a little white dress with a pink bow. Pepper wore a plain white dress that reached just above her knees with a small floral design around the waist. Natasha's dress was also white but the upper part hugged her torso with a spaghetti strap whereas Pepper's had short sleeves. The redhead's skirt also flared like Pepper's and ended just below her knees. Talia's dress had a tribal pattern on the upper part in purple and pink. The same pattern bordered the edges of her skirt which ended just at her ankles.
"So, where are we off to?" Talia asked as she was once again helped into her sister-in-law's SUV.
"You'll see." Talia sighed to herself. She already knew that they had planned something but the mystery wasn't enough to bring her out of her somber mood. It had only been a day since they left the tower and yet she missed Steve already. She had received a text from him the previous night and that morning but it wasn't enough. She needed to hear his voice and to feel his arms around her. She knew that she had been very busy trying to find the cure for Loki and she had probably neglected him for the past six months but he was still there taking care of her. She had been so lost in her thoughts she hadn't realized they had reached their destination. They were in a plateau where there was a large clearing filled with soft grass and wild flowers. The sight was indeed beautiful but what made her gasp was the arch made of flowers under which stood Bruce and Steve with another gentleman. And then she was being helped out of the SUV by Clint. Pepper and Natasha were already walking towards the others while Tony took her other side.
"What's going on Tony?" she asked her twin brother as she watched Coulson take Carina from her mother.
"You are to be wed to the man you love," Loki's silky voice came from behind her and Clint let her go. The archer joined Thor across Pepper, Natasha and Coulson as Loki took his place beside Talia.
"What?" she could not believe his words and looked to Tony for confirmation. "Did you do this Tony?"
"Don't look at me," her twin said with his hands raised in front of him in denial. "Reindeer games planned everything, I just shelled out the money."
"Why?" she asked the God of Mischief whose jade eyes held none of its malice.
"As my thanks for everything that you have done for me." Talia smiled at him unable to form the words as she nodded in response. "Now come, I am sure your groom is eager to become your husband." and so she was married to Steve and became Natalia Antonia Rogers.
"Is it true?" Bruce was suddenly standing there asking Natasha if the news he'd just heard was true. Steve was brought out of his musings by the physicist's voice and he watched as the Widow smiled at her husband. Bruce had proposed to Natasha on the day of his and Talia's wedding and she had accepted. They were married just six months later.
"Yes, I'm eleven weeks along." ice blue eyes widened at the news and he could not deny that he was happy for his friends. Bruce scooped up Natasha in his arms and swung her around in his glee. Steve turned his attention back to Thor's brother who was smirking to himself as he watched the pair.
"Did you have anything to do with that?" he asked Loki quietly.
"With what?" Loki feigned innocence but there was a twinkle in his eyes that belied his words. "I assure you Captain Rogers, I had nothing to do with whatever it is that you are accusing me of."
"I wasn't accusing you of anything." Steve smirked at his son's godfather. "I was just asking."
"James!"
"Carina!" and then the little boy was scrambling out of his godfather's arms as he ran towards his cousin. Carina was almost eight months older than James but they were as close as if they were siblings. Then he watched his wife as she helped Pepper onto a seat. The ginger-haired CEO of Stark-Industries was seven months pregnant with hers and Tony's second child and Steve couldn't help but think about having another one as well.
"Tony! Let go of that StarkPad and get some food for Pepper." Steve watched Talia as she hit the back of Tony's head while snatching said device from his hands. "Billy and the rest are coming soon." the blond captain could only shake his head as Iron Man himself folded under his twin sister's glare. He didn't think Talia could really say anything as she herself could have the same one track mind as her twin when the situation called for it but that was the Starks for them. They were two sides of the same coin; opposites in some things but similar in the rest. Perhaps that was why some people couldn't understand them. They were after all, Gemini; mirror images, a reflection of each other and an image of strength and unity in the face of adversity.
