Chapter 14

When Deeks got the call to report to the morgue at three in the morning his gut was telling him that it was not going to be good news. He met Rose outside the building where it was now cordoned off by police. "Hi Rose, so what's the 911 out here about."

"Uh, sorry to um pull you out of bed but we had a break in."

"Anything stolen?"

"Uh, yeah," she said shyly embarrassed by the whole thing. "You know that guy uh, Janvier. The one Callen shot yesterday morning."

"Yeah, I know who he is, he's supposed to be on ice in there."

"Well, his, body was stolen."

"What! How!"

"A couple of my morgue techs were bringing in a body they had picked up from a car accident and uh, discovered that the building had been broken into. When they realized what had happened they alerted security and the LAPD."

"So how did you know it was Janvier's body?"

"When I got here, I went in with several officers to see if anything was missing and when we checked the fridges the lock on one had been broken off and that's when I began an inventory of bodies and discovered one missing. With help from my assistant ME, we determined that it was Janvier's body that is missing. We checked all the bodies twice. Also taken was his file."

Deeks swore, this case had just gotten a lot worse and Callen was still in lockup and Eric was having a field day removing the video of the shooting from the internet. He was dreading telling Hetty.

"Oh, and the DA is on his way."

"Oh, just great. He's going to pitch a fit when he's told Rose."

"Uh, yeah, I know and I'm dreading his reaction."

"Join the club."

"I'm going to call Hetty and let her know but her reaction just might leave me deaf. Be right back." He stepped away and pulling out his phone, he dialed Hetty's number.

Mr. Deeks its four in the morning."

"Sorry Hetty but there's been a break in at the morgue. Janvier's body's been stolen."

"What!" Deeks moved the cell phone away from his ear. The outburst had made him jump and cringe despite the fact that he knew the reaction was coming. "Details, Mr. Deeks, now!" So he told her what Rose had related to him. "And Hetty, the DA's on his way now."

"Bugger. I'll get Eric on the cameras hopefully we can find something."

"I hope so for Callen's sake."

"Keep me apprised Mr. Deeks."

"I will." Clicking off the phone he returned to Rose to see the DA had arrived and was not a happy man.

"What the hell happened. I thought we had security on this place!" The man was heard nearly yelling after he was told what was stolen. "And you Deeks, had better tell NCIS that we are not going to let that Agent of theirs out because of this."

Deeks sighed, the guy was pissed alright, but there was nothing he could do about it. "It's not my call, Mike."

The guy had to sigh, Deeks was right it wasn't his call and besides, he was already planning to have it out in the courtroom instead with Agent Callen body or not.

He and Deeks along with Rose entered the building to find CSU already at work trying to gather any evidence and clues as to who had stoen Janvier's body. After seeing the damage to the freezer door and looking around, Deeks noticed something right away. "We may not get any images of the thieves. Looks like they disabled the cameeras." Pointing to a damaged cam.

Everyone in the room swore, "Just what we need," replied the DA.

"Yeah, well that isn't the only camera, I noticed the ones in the hall and outside have been damaged too," replied Deeks knowing that everyone was about to let out another cursing fit.

"Whoever the thief or thieves are, they're pros."

"You can say that again."

"I want a meeting with whoever's in charge of security for this place first thing in the morning," Mike spoke up clearly not happy. "And I want some answers by then."

"I've got a friend over at NCIS checking traffic cams in the area. Maybe we might get lucky," Deeks replied hoping that Eric has something for him by then."

"I hope so for everyone's sake."

Navy Yard

Washington DC

Later that morning

Everything had come to a complete halt as the last of the bodies were being removed from NCIS HQ. The workers had finished shoring up the building in the early hours of the morning allowing a team of federal agents and Medical Examiners into the building to document, gather evidence and remove the last of the bodies. Timothy McGee's body was the last one to be removed and that was the reason for the silence in the yard. Everyone had done this out of respect for one of the most respected agents in NCIS who had also earned the respect of agents from every law enforcement agency out there. Not to mention the private sector as well once word got out. You could hear a pin drop as McGee's body was carried out of the building led by Jimmy Palmer and an escort of agents representing the alphabet soup of agencies gathered to help in the investigation into the bombing and the hunt for Harper Dearing. A group of NCIS personnel from Director Vance all the way down to the lowest clerk were there as well. Abby was sobbing silently as the body was loaded into a van to be transported to the FBI morgue for autopsy.

Even after the van drove off, the yard remained quiet for a few more minutes longer then everyone began slowly returning to work and the noise level rose as teams began work on removing the rubble and gathering evidence.

Bathesda Naval Hospital

She woke up to a slight headache and when she opened her eyes, she quickly shut against the bright light. She opened them again and blinked a couple of times until her vision came into focus and realized she was in the hospital.

"Where am I," she spoke in Hebrew.

"Bethesda Medical Center," replied a voice that was out of her view of vision.

"How long have I been here," she asked in Hebrew again.

"Two days," replied Nikki Jardin in Hebrew as she came into Ziva's visual field.

"Nikki," she switched to English. "Was anyone else hurt?"

"You remember the bombing, that's good. You had us all worried."

"The last thing I remember was getting into the elevator with Tony …"

"He's alright. He's at another hospital."

"And me?"

"You had some internal injuries and a concussion. Along with a few fractured ribs. You're father's been calling fairly regularly to check up on you."

Ziva groaned. That's the last person she wanted to deal with right now. "And the others, Gibbs, Abby …"

"Gibbs, injured his leg and Abby broke her wrist."

"And McGee?"

Nikki turned her face away trying to hide the tears. She couldn't bring herself to tell the woman in the hospital bed that Tim was dead. But she knew she had to so she steered herself and spoke quietly. "Tims's dead."

She couldn't speak, she was too shocked too. Tim was dead and all she could do was cry so she just let the tears flow. Nikki stayed with her not leaving her side until she fell asleep.
