Chapter 14
"You want me to what?" Jinbe felt an eyebrow quirk up while he stared down at the white-haired petite woman who was currently looking up at him and giving him a cheshire cat-like grin.
"You heard me. I want you to promise me that you'll protect my daughter whenever she comes to this island someday."
He snorted, looking the human woman over with a skeptical eye. "I wasn't aware you were expecting."
That made the curly-haired woman laugh, hands moving to her hips as blue eyes sparkled with mischief. "I'm not! Well, at least not yet but Madam Rhea says she's foreseen my future and eventually I'm supposed to have two daughters! Isn't that exciting?" The young woman's grin only widened upon mentioning this. "Anyway, my oldest girl is going to come here one day and is apparently going to get herself into a shit ton of trouble. Like mother like daughter, what can I say?"
Jinbe deadpanned and Johanna quickly tried to hurry along. "Like I was saying, if you could..." She sighed, features falling slightly as she tried to find the words to continue. "I know I won't be there for her as she gets older, I just, I want to know she'll be safe and protected once I'm gone. And if you're around for at least one time when she's in trouble..."
He sighed, forcing himself to look away with arms crossed in front of him. He hated to admit it, but Jinbe had grown rather close to this little human woman determined to be the greatest adventurer that ever lived. She was a good person, had a warm heart and love for everything and everyone.
And it was obvious she had already grown to love the children she would one day have that hadn't even been born yet.
"As if you even needed to ask," He gruffly mumbled under his breath, watching as Johanna's head snapped up and her entire face light up. "If you tell me what I'm supposed to be looking out for, what she'll look like, I'll make sure that your daughter is safe when she comes here. You have my word."
"Jinbe you're the best!" Johanna squealed and jumped up, throwing her arms around the Fishman and ignoring his protests as she clung on as tightly as she possibly could.
Present day...
Jinbe had never understood how a woman like Johanna could have married a bastard like Sakazuki, but there must have been something she saw in him that no one else could. After all, he had managed to make a child like Felicity, a girl who he was slowly beginning to warm up to, just like he had with Johanna much to his dismay.
Even now as he watched her interaction with the Whitebeards and the boy who had once been part of Gold Roger's crew, he could see so much of her mother in Felicity.
"OW! Son of a- Why the hell are you hitting me?! I did try to save your life after all!"
Jinbe couldn't help but wince as he watched Felicity give a sound smack to the bandaged arm in a sling that the former Roger pirate now wore, planting her hands to her hips in a fashion that made her look so much like Johanna.
"I told you to be safe you dumbass! Getting the shit beaten out of you and having your arm broken means you weren't! I swear!" She threw her hands up, giving a sound of disgust before turning and stomping off towards the Whitebeard crew, muttering under her breath about stupid men.
Definitely her mother's daughter, even if she and Johanna looked almost nothing alike.
Jinbe heard a soft chuckle at his side, turning slightly to find the first division commander watching the petite woman with a soft gaze, his eyes following her every move.
"Careful there commander, if you keep that up people will start to talk."
That made Marco stiffen in place, his head snapping away from Felicity's direction in an attempt to hide his actions. His voice came out cool, eyes narrowed to slits as he looked Jinbe directly in the eye. "No idea what you mean yoi."
Jinbe rolled his eyes, grunting in response. "Ah, of course you don't, and the fact that the girl has been constantly followed around by that man there doesn't bother you one bit, does it?"
The Fishman saw Marco's jaw tic, the commander trying his hardest to control the turmoil he felt inside. "Not at all yoi." The words were low as they were forced out.
"Be careful that you don't drive her away." Jinbe watched as Marco's head whipped around, giving a narrowed gaze to the former Shichibukai. "Keep it up, and you'll force her right into the arms of another. I've seen that happen far too often to good men," He paused, giving the still glaring commander a pointed look. "And you're already too damn smitten with her that it would kill you to see her with someone else."
Marco stared at the Fishman for a moment longer. "Shows how much you know yoi, I could care less if Feclitiy winds up with that bastard or not. She could have as many men as she wanted, it wouldn't bother me a damn bit."
"Of course not," Jinbe muttered in response, knowing just how full of shit the blonde was.
But as he looked from the commander toward the curly-haired woman, he realized they were both too damn stubborn, so different and yet so much alike.
It could go either way at this point, and as much as respect as he had for the blonde commander, he would hate to see him so completely and utterly destroyed again, heart broken much like it was during the bloody battle at Marineford when he had lost so much.
He honestly didn't think that the man could handle another heartbreak.
Felicity hated to leave the island.
She felt as though she hadn't gotten to see enough of the wonderful place her mother had once gotten to see for herself, but as she watched the island grow smaller and smaller from where she stood on the ship, she realized that she had been so lucky in that she had been given the wonderful opportunity. It had truly been the chance of a lifetime, and one day, maybe she could come back.
"Aw don't be so down, you'll be able to come back here again someday."
Felicity blinked and craned her head until she was looking over her shoulder to find Tyr grinning at her. She forced a smile and shrugged her shoulders before turning her gaze back to the island. "Maybe. I suppose it all depends on how long I stay with the crew, if I leave or am asked to leave then there's a less likely chance I'll ever get to come back."
She jumped in place upon feeling a hand gently grasp at her shoulder, turning her until she was fully facing the man who now sported a solemn look on his face. "Tyr, what-"
"What if I could help you achieve your goals?"
Brown eyes widened and she tried to take a step back but Tyr's uninjured hand held her firmly in place. "What the hell are you talking about?"
"I'm not planning on staying here with the Whitebeards forever, as soon as I find some of my old crew, I plan on leaving. Felicity, you could come with me! I know my old friends wouldn't mind if you came with us, hell they'd love you I know it! And maybe," He paused, head tilting before leaning forward slowly. "Maybe..."
"She will never go anywhere with you, so you better let her go now yoi."
She blinked once as she felt herself being jerked out of Tyr's hold on her only to have Marco's hand on her wrist, the commander glowering at the younger pirate. The blonde was seething, pure anger rolling off him in waves as he stared the other man down. "You've got some damn nerve, you know that?"
"Hey! Maybe she wants to come with me once I get the chance to leave, you ever think about that?!"
"It doesn't matter what she wants, because whether you like it or not, Felicity is mine. I claimed her as such when she first joined us, and the sooner you realize this, the better yoi. And if I ever catch you trying to proposition her in any way again, I'll throw your ass overboard myself."
Marco didn't bother waiting for the other man's response before turning on his heel, dragging Felicity along with him.
Wait a minute, had she just been treated as though she were nothing more than property? Oh yes, yes she had... And she didn't like it one damn bit.
"You jackass! You let me go right now!" Felicity jerked her wrist out of Marco's grasp, eyes cut to slits as she glowered up at the commander who appeared to be completely flabbergasted as to why Felicity was suddenly acting like that. "Who the hell do you think you are?! How dare you think to tell me what I can and can't do?!"
"I dare because I can yoi!" Marco ran a hand through his hair, completely frustrated with how the conversation was turning. "I claimed you! And I'm only warning you because I don't want you to wind up getting too close and-"
"Fuck your claim!"
Marco stilled in place, frozen to the spot he was standing in as he felt his heart hammer in his chest a thousand beats per second. He saw Felicity's eyes blazing with rage, her teeth grit as she used all the strength she had in her arms to try and shove Marco away from her.
"You said when you first claimed me for yourself that you were doing it to keep me safe and that the claim was only good if I agreed to it as well, right? Well, I'm ending your claim over me! I don't want your fucking help or your stupid claim over me, I can take care of my own self! First chance I get, I'm moving my stuff out of your room and bunking with someone else!"
No way, she couldn't be possibly serious... Or so he kept telling himself over and over in his mind. Finally, after a moment or two of silence, he snorted.
"Fine, whatever you say yoi, although I hardly think you'll find someone as agreeable a roommate as I've been with you." Marco tried to smirk, forcing his fears to the side even as he watched Felicity stomp away.
It wasn't until later when Marco entered his quarters that he realized how serious Felicity had been. The few possessions she had gathered during her stay on board the ship were completely gone, and the small pallet she had made for herself right by Marco's bed was gone as well.
She'd be back, he decided as he moved to sit down at the desk in the corner of the room. There was no way she would be able to last with the rest of the crew without his claim protecting her from them. It wouldn't be long now before she came bursting through the door, telling him how wrong she was and that she needed his protection.
But as the minutes and hours slowly ticked by, the sun eventually setting and darkness filling the sky, realization began to slowly creep in that maybe, just maybe she had been serious. And that maybe he had truly messed up as Jinbe had warned him, driving Felicity away from him for good.
Eyes slowly closed as he buried his face in his hands, releasing a heavy groan.
What had he done?
"Vice-Admiral Barker!"
The white-haired Vice-Admiral lifted his head from the maps he was currently studying, eyes narrowed as he straightened up and folded his arms behind his back.
"Status report."
"Sir!" The officer saluted his superior before continuing. "It appears as though the Whitebeard Pirates have just left Fishman Island and are now on their way to the island of for some unknown reason, sir!"
"That so?" Barker paused, a hand moving to gently stroke at his beard before his head snapped back toward the young man. "We're taking the ship to that island! But make sure those damned pirates don't figure out that we're on their trail. Keep us a safe distance away from them so they don't detect us."
"Yes sir!" He was given another salute before the officer turned on his heel and left Barker alone in his quarters.
The Vice-Admiral waited until the door was shut firmly before he turned his gaze toward a small window in the room, releasing the heavy breath he had been holding inside. Soon. it wouldn't be much longer now until he found just what he was searching for...
"Those bastard's will pay," He hissed under his breath, fist slamming down into the table at his side and completely shattering said table with just that one punch. He meant business, he wanted to take back what belonged to him and make that damned crew pay dearly.
Once he had dealt with the Whitebeards, he would see about dealing with Sakazuki.
The sooner the better in his opinion.
Felicity could feel Marco's gaze burning into her back as she forced herself not to turn around, not to look him in the eye. She couldn't, not after everything that had happened...
"If you're going to be so miserable then why in seven hells did you ever move out of Marco's quarters?"
Her head snapped to the side, eyes narrowed as she glowered up at Izo. "You know damn well why I had to." If she wanted to keep her heart from breaking anymore than it already was, she had no other choice but to keep as much distance between herself and Marco as she possibly could.
Izo snorted, reaching a hand out to tug at one of her black curls. "Whatever you say Duckling, but all I'm going to say is that both of you look as though your best friend has died. If this keeps up, I'm going to intervene whether you both like it or not."
"Fuck off Izo," She mumbled under her breath, making sure she kept up with the man's pace.
The crew had docked at a small island, everyone on board leaving in order to gather any supplies that might be needed, and Felicity made sure to be right at Izo's side so she wouldn't be left in any potential awkward situations with Marco.
She had once again let her temper get the better of her, but hearing Marco saying that just because he had claimed her that gave him the right to try and tell her what she should and shouldn't do... She had lost it.
Her emotions were so topsy-turvy and Felicity was in such a turmoil concerning her feelings for the blonde. She knew her feelings toward him were still very much there, but damn it, Marco was confusing her now more than ever! He rejected her first, and now he was concerned that she was getting too attached to Tyr and was possibly planning on leaving the crew?
Why couldn't he just make up his damn mind how he felt about her?!
"It's the Navy!"
"How the hell did they sneak up on us like this?!"
"Shit! It's a Vice-Admiral!"
"Everybody, get ready to fight!"
Brown eyes blinked and she was suddenly ripped out of her thoughts upon finding the crew in a frenzy, several of the commanders running right past her while others brandished weapons and ran the opposite direction. In short, it was complete and utter chaos and it had all occurred within a matter of mere minutes.
The Navy? And not just the Navy, but a Marine Vice-Admiral as well?
She paled at the realization that there was a good possibility that her father's forces might have found her, and if that happened, if he knew that the Whitebeards had been kind to her, had kept her safe and sound all this time and that she didn't want to even consider leaving them...
Felicity turned her attention to a ship with the insignia of the Navy on its flag and felt her heart constrict at the sight of Marines all rushing toward the crew.
"No..." She whispered, shaking her head with eyes screwing shut as though if she couldn't see them, then they weren't really there and couldn't rip her away. She didn't want to leave! She didn't want to be taken away from the only happiness she had known for the first time in forever! She wanted... She wasn't even sure what she wanted, but she knew it wasn't to be taken back!
"This way yoi!"
Her eyes snapped open as she felt a familiar grasp in her own hand, Marco's eyes pleading with her to follow him. The resentment she felt was still there, still fresh but...
Her fingers slowly curled around Marco's and she nodded once as her anger seemed to dissipate all at once, her feet moving in order to try and keep up with Marco as much as she could.
Marco's head turned back slightly, mouth opening in order to yell back at Felicity. "Once we get far enough ahead, I'll transform and fly you to safety!"
She shook her head furiously as she tried not to trip over herself. "What about the others?! We can't leave them behind like this!" They were surrounded by so many members from the crew, all of them fighting against the Marine forces that struck at them first.
Marco cursed under his breath, skidding to a stop before whirling around on Felicity. "And I can't risk losing you yoi! You know damn well that if the Navy gets a hold of you that you'll never be able to escape from them!"
It appeared as though both Felicity and Marco realized just what the commander had said, the pair staring at one another in silence for a brief moment before Marco's head snapped up, teeth grinding together and arms reaching out to grab Felicity and bring her flush against him.
Marine forces were getting closer and closer with the crew were trying their hardest to fight them off. Marco's grip tightening around the petite woman in his arms. "I'll keep you safe, I swear yoi!" Felicity could see blue flames slowly forming out of the corner of her eye, burying her face against his bare chest with arms moving to wrap around his back.
"HOLD YOUR FIRE, YOU PANSIES! DON'T YOU DARE SHOOT!"
She blinked owlishly at the command. Why would someone give the command not to shoot at them? After all, the Whitebeards were one of the most notorious pirate crews and the Marines hated pirates more than anything.
And then there was something else... Why did that voice sound so damn familiar?
"FELICITY! FELICITY, IS THAT YOU?! DON'T RUN AWAY! IT'S ME, LITTLE LISSY!"
Wait, Little Lissy? No one had called her that since...
No, it couldn't be... If that was who she thought it was... Her eyes were wide as saucers and she pulled her face out of Marco's chest, her eyes locking onto his. "Let me go Marco! Please, let me go!" Thus began the struggle as Felicity tried to wrench herself out of his grasp in an effort to see just who it was calling out to her.
"Have you lost your mind yoi?! I'm not letting you go!"
"I know that voice! I just... I need to see for myself!"
"Felicity, don't!"
She yanked herself free, turning only to come face to face with an imposing older man, white hair and narrowed blue eyes. He wore the standard uniform for Marine Vice-Admirals and currently held an arm up, signaling to his officers not to shoot whatsoever. Both pirates and Marines alike had stopped the fighting and Marco was behind Felicity all the while, his eyes daring any to do any harm to the curly-haired woman and face his wrath.
Slowly, the man's features softened and lips curved upwards into a wide grin. "Lissy, you're safe... Thank the gods!"
No way, it couldn't be... But it was, he was truly here. Tears welled up in her eyes and she bit on her lip in an effort to keep herself from sobbing. Her voice came out, barely a whisper as she took a small step toward the Marine Vice-Admiral.
"G-Grandad?"
When they heard that one word, the response from every single member of the crew was instantaneous. "EHHHHHHH?! DID YOU JUST SAY GRANDAD?!"
Hehehe so the plot thickens! ...or not? *laughs* No I promise it really is! I mean come on! We just met Felicity's grandad! You know that's gonna be extremely awkward for Marco to meet some of her family like this!
Just to warn you all, the next couple of chapters will be filled with so many flashbacks, and I mean soooo many. In fact the next couple of chapters might be nothing but flashbacks, but hey we'll get to find out even more about Felicity's past and we'll get to see... CHIBI LISSY! *squeezes chibi Felicity* She's the cutest thing ever~ and I just wanna squeeze her widdle cheeks! *stops...clears throat nervously*
No, I don't have a weird obsession with my OC's, not at all~ *snickers*
Mmm I'm a bit disappointed with this chapter, but then again when am I not super critical of my own work? XD I feel like certain parts weren't as good as other parts, but I had a ton of drama to deal with courtesy of my mother. -_-
But please let me know what you all honestly thought~!
