My apologies on the delay of this update. I admit I had a touch of writer's block. I have the general idea on where I would like the story overall to go, but I'm a little stumped on a storyline right now in the story. I thought of ideas for this update. Keep in mind, I don't know at the top of my head the birth date of Bay and/or Daphne, so I'm not adding it in his chapter. I love SAB, but I don't remember every detail from the show so bear with me. I apologize if this chapter isn't the best, but I didn't want to leave you hanging. I hope you like the 'Bemmett' scenes in here. If you have a minute, please review and let me know what you think. Chapter 14
(Bay wasn't completely sure how she felt with her birthday being today. It was Friday, so she didn't have to worry about going to bed at a decent time for school the next day. She didn't really want a party, but considering it was her 17th birthday, she knew her parents would want to throw her one. So, she decided to go with it)
(Bay was dressed in her usual school uniform and decided to wear her hair in a pony tail. She had hoop earrings on and her black boots. If she had it her way, she would dress how she wanted, but she knew she couldn't. She looked in the mirror and sighs)
Bay: "Well, this is as good as it is gonna get."
(She gathers her backpack and rests it on one of her shoulders before going downstairs. When she gets to the kitchen, she is greeted by her parents as well as Toby)
John: "Happy birthday, my beautiful daughter!"
Kathryn: "Happy birthday, sweetie!"
Bay: (chuckles dryly) "It is that day, isn't it?"
Toby: (raises his eyebrows) "You sound how I felt on my day, too."
(John and Kathryn take turns hugging their daughter. It was obvious from Bay's facial expressions that she had mixed feelings about today. In a way, she was glad to be turning 17. On the other side, with the way her life was like at the moment, particularly with Emmett, she wasn't in the mood to celebrate. Yes, they got everything settled, but it was awkward now. Where do they go from here? Bay didn't know)
(John and Kathryn offer to make her a special birthday breakfast, but Bay politely turns them down. She tells them the birthday bash they will be throwing her that night will be enough. While John understands, Kathryn takes her daughter to the living room for a little privacy. They sit down on the couch and Kathryn faces her daughter sympathetically)
Kathryn: "Are you still trying to decide how to proceed with Emmett?"
Bay: (uncomfortably) "I guess. We talked the other day and got it all out in the open." (sighs) "Now, I'm not sure what to do next."
Kathryn: "I know you didn't really want a party. In my opinion, it might be good to see all your friends and family." (hopeful smile) "Maybe Emmett included?"
(Bay briefly closes her eyes and sighs at her mother's suggestion. Bay was so confused. She didn't know what she wanted. She admitted to herself that she wouldn't mind seeing him there. He was her first love. Yes, she was with Ty before. She wasn't with him long enough to feel like she was in love with him. Yes, they almost said the 'L' word. In the end, they didn't. The day she met Emmett she had butterflies in her stomach. She didn't understand why at the time as she barely knew him. She came to the realization that her heart knew what she knew before she did. Weird, but it happens)
(Bay looks at her mother and knew she was only trying to help. She nods her head and politely smiles)
Bay: "If you want to invite Emmett, you can. I'm sure he'll have a good time."
Kathryn: (chuckles softly) "You know as well as I do that the reason he'd have a good time is because you're there." (sighs) "I know life is confusing right now, sweetie. I assure you, though. It will get better. I would never tell you what to say or what to feel. I can tell that you still love him and I know he loves you. From what you told me, his love for you didn't die. If anything, they're stronger. There's nothing wrong with taking things slowly."
(Bay can't help but appreciate her mother's kind words. She knew her mother meant well. Kathryn had a point. Emmett would be more than happy to go at Bay's pace. She nods and smiles slightly)
Bay: "Yes, he can be invited. That's fine. I'm sure it'll be nice to see him again."
(Bay can't help but wince at a thought)
Bay: "Do I dare ask who you're all inviting?"
Kathryn: (smiles & shrugs) "Anyone you'd like in particular?"
(After taking a moment to think, Bay looks at her mother)
Bay: "Toby, Daphne, Emmett, Regina, dad, and anyone else you think would come. I admit I haven't been a very good friend to some, so I don't think they'd wanna come." (smiles briefly) "Just close friends and family is fine. I don't need anything fancy."
Kathryn: (smiles) "No problem."
(Kathryn gives her daughter a light hug. Bay is then confronted by her brother. Bay can't help but feel a little awkward towards him)
Toby: (chuckles) "I know you didn't really want a party, but I'm sure it'll be fun."
Bay: "Mom wanted to invite Emmett." (nervously) "How do you feel about that?"
(Toby shrugs while offering a smile)
Toby: "Right now, he's not my favorite person. However, he seems more apologetic about the whole cheating thing than Simone does. While I have no intentions on ever forgiving her, I am closer to forgiving Emmett as he doesn't sleep around like she does."
Bay: (nods) "That's one thing I have noticed about her is she does sleep around."
(Bay sighs as she looks down. After an awkward silence, Toby lifts his sister's chin and looks sympathetic)
Toby: "I know you still love Emmett, Bay. That's okay. He made you happy. Yes, he made a mistake. Yes, it'll take time for you two to overcome it." (smiles slightly) "I have a feeling you two will beat the odds and come out stronger than ever." (sighs) "But only if you want it. Don't force yourself."
Bay: (chuckles) "When did you come back to being an Emmett cheerleader?"
Toby: (shrugs) "I'm not completely one yet." (nods) "But I can see it in your eyes how you feel about him."
Bay: (smiles a little) "Throughout everything, I've always loved him. Even through the hurt, the love never went away. Just took a backseat for awhile." (shrugs) "We'll see what happens."
Toby: (nods confidently) "I have faith that you will find love again."
(Bay couldn't help but feel hopeful at his comment. She didn't know when, but something told her when she least expected it, it would stare at her in the face)
***Party Time***
(Bay decided to wear a blue dress with straps over the shoulders. The dress was just above her knees and fit perfectly against her curves. She decided to wear one inch blue heels to match her dress color. She wore her hair halfway up and had star earrings on. She was caught off-guard by Daphne's voice)
Daphne: "You look beautiful."
(Bay quickly glanced in the direction of her bedroom door to see her sister)
Bay: (smiles) "Thanks."
Daphne: "You know who else will think so?"
(Bay got her sister's hint)
Bay: (nods) "Emmett."
Daphne: "Kathryn said you were fine with him coming."
Bay: (shrugs) "Yeah, sure."
(Daphne offers a sympathetic smile)
Daphne: "You go at your pace, okay?"
(Bay was appreciative of Daphne's encouraging words)
Bay: "Thank you."
Daphne: "Are you ready?"
Bay: "As ready as I'll ever be."
(The two sisters walk down the hallway and then down the steps, where everyone was. Toby, Regina, John, Kathryn, and Emmett smiled at the two)
John: "You look beautiful, Bay!" (to Daphne) "You, too, of course."
(Daphne smiles in response. Bay nods before accepting a hug from her father)
John: "Happy birthday, sweetie."
(Everyone says 'Happy Birthday' at the same time)
Bay: (polite smile) "Thank you, everyone."
(She looks around to see everyone before smiling wide)
Bay: "Let's have fun!"
(Everyone cheers and the party beings)
***About Two Hours Later***
(Everyone is having a good time. With couples dancing like John and Kathryn, to just Toby, Daphne, and Regina dancing to the beat. John and Bay share a father/daughter dance. Kathryn couldn't resist as she took pictures. Bay is now at the punch bowl getting a drink. She notices someone coming towards her, revealing Emmett)
Emmett: "Are you having fun?"
Bay: (nods) "Yes." (smiles) "Thank you for coming."
(She takes a quick drink before setting down her cup to face him)
Emmett: "Happy birthday."
Bay: (smiles briefly) "Thank you."
Emmett: (polite smile) "I know you weren't sure of inviting me and I'm fine with that. I wanted to thank you for letting me."
Bay: (sighs) "Even though I wasn't sure at the beginning...in the end, it wouldn't have been right if you weren't here."
(Emmett and Bay shared an awkward silence. Emmett turns halfway around to see everyone dancing. He then looks back at Bay. He knew what he wanted to ask her, but was afraid she would say no. He had wanted to ask her since he saw her coming down the stairs. Bay knew what he wanted to ask, too. She was both nervous and waiting for him to say the words)
Emmett: (hopeful smile) "Do you wanna dance?"
(Bay takes a moment to look at his tender smile and sees him offer his hand. The insecure part of her wasn't sure what to say. The relieved part of her smile and nods as she places her hand in his. She knew she wasn't making a mistake. It was like she knew she was safe with him. John, Kathryn, Regina, Toby, and Daphne see Emmett lead Bay to the dance floor. They watch cautiously as Emmett sweetly shows Bay where to rest her hands (around his neck) as he rests his hands around her waist. The group could tell Bay was slightly cautious on making sure she was doing the right thing)
(Everyone knew they could join in the dance music, but they felt like this was Emmett and Bay's turn to shine. John was behind Kathryn with his arms around her waist. She had her hands safely over his. Toby, Daphne, and Regina couldn't help but smile at the possible couple's closeness)
(Bay and Emmett were in their own little world. They kept staring at each other. They both wondered if they should do something, but decided what they were currently doing was fine. Emmett couldn't help but look at Bay's lips that were covered with sparkly lip gloss. He wanted to kiss her, but knew now was not the time as they were getting to know each other again. He considered the fact that they were dancing with her in his arms enough for now. Emmett quickly looks back into her eyes and smiled. Bay couldn't help but let her eyes wander to his lips, as well. Truth be told, she missed his kips over hers. The way they felt over hers. She blinked quickly to squash those thoughts as she knew she wasn't ready for that yet)
(Everyone couldn't help the happiness they felt that Emmett and Bay have come this far since everything happened. They knew it would take time, yet were hoping Bay and Emmett would find their way back to each other)
(Bay and Emmett continue to smile slightly at each other. Bay was tempted to do something. Not kiss as she wasn't ready for that yet. She made the decision in that moment that she could trust Emmett. That she could put her faith in him and he would protect that faith with his life. She leans in and rests her head on his left shoulder. She closes her eyes to feel his warmth and his comfortness. He was momentarily shocked by her move. He welcomed it immediately and smiled in relief. A major part of him wanted to jump up for joy that Bay was finally, slowly, but surely, letting him in. He decided to just enjoy the moment. He rested his chin on her shoulder and slowly lets his eyes close. He wraps his arms tighter around Bay's waist)
(It felt good, so good to be this close to the love of his life again. Without realizing what he was doing next, he softly kisses the top of Bay's shoulder before resting the side of his face on her shoulder again. In his heart, this was as close to perfect as perfect could be)
