Chapter 14
We walk for a few days only stopping to eat, and sleep, but we where all quite for the walks. Nothing was really said during the brakes. Since we didn't have much food on us, I gathered fruits from trees and bushes along the way, May had trusted me a few times to carry the jar, and that's where I gave Envy some strawberries, though he never said a thing at all.
Now we are slowly waking our way through a town called Youswell, which is right beside the desert, so I don't know how she can still be wearing her winter jacket, I toke mine off days ago. We then come to a group of people that stop us.
"And where are you two heading ladies"? A man asks, putting his hands on his hips. We both look at him and he continues, "Your walking right toward the edge of town and their is nothing but desert for hundreds of miles".
"Well I, I'm travelling back to my own country", May answers.
"Oh yeah"? The man asks.
"Yes I'm from Xing", she replies.
"Across the desert"? The man asks. She nods her head and a young boy rushes over and asks, "Wait, you mean your going to cross the desert with just the two of you"?
"Yeah", May answers I narrow my eyes, this is getting old. I look behind him and my eyes widen, there is lots of people standing their now listening to this.
"All right every one, lets help them out, hand over any extra food", The man says turning to all of the people gathered their.
"You don't need to..", she was cut off by the kid, "Hey don't worry about it".
"Why don't you leave tomorrow, stay the night and get some good rest"? An older lady asks.
"Your more then welcome to use our bath", another lady puts out their.
"We can make you some dinner", A man stats.
"What about you Steve, you've got some empty rooms now, why don't you put them up"? I don't care much for who is talking now, all I know is I can hear them.
"Yeah, sure thing, they will be nice and comfy, the little one would be cozy in Emmy's old room".
"Did Emmy already leave for collage in Central"? I smile as I see May shocked and I look at the jar and wonder what is going through his mind this whole time.
"I guess the apple falls pretty far from the tree after all". I watch as a lady picks up the panda.
"I guess so".
"We'll have to feed this adorable little kitty too", the lady says. The panda just lets out sounds of protest.
"Oh she certainly is hungry", the lady says.
"I get the feeling that she thinks your her food", the man beside her stats.
"Oh hush don't be silly, you don't eat people do you kitty"? The woman asks and the panda lets out a scream. I look down at May and look at her shocked, she is starting to cry.
"They sure are nice huh"? Envy finally speaks up, I ignore everything else and listen to what he has to say, because with him talking its sure to be for his benefit, not May's.
"You don't even want to help them, well that's probably for the best", Envy adds. May looks down at the jar eyes wide open as she thinks of things.
"I do wonder, what your emperor is going to think when you hand over a half dead homunculus? I doubt its going to do your clan much good. But you could go to Central, I mean that's where you can learn the true way to gain immortality, you can even help save all of these people's lives. Oh well, why should you care if they live or die anyway, its not like its your country or anything", Envy says.
I know why Envy said that, its so he don't have to go some where else, but to get closer to Father, the panda jumps over to May's shoulder.
"I'm sorry, thanks so much for your kindness", May says and turns then starts to run.
"Wait where are you going"? The lady asks. I run after her, "I've got to get to Central, I have some unfinished business". I honestly don't know how long it had been, but we finally make it at Central, Envy telling May where to go and I just follow her, we make it to the hidden door before the soldiers could stop us.
"Man, Mustang must of really had a plan", I say as we are now walking through the tunnel's of the place.
"Yeah, I wonder how the others are doing", May stats. I nod, then we go silent for a while. We walk for what felt like hours before we turn to see what the sound was, hearing something coming our way.
"What the hell are those"? I ask as these white looking manikin people come rushing toward us. Both May and I make a run for it, too many for us to deal with.
"What's going on Envy, it looks like you tricked me"? May asks, keeping Envy's jar balanced on her head.
"No I didn't lie to you. Your source for immortality is further inside, keep going", Envy says then screams as he hits all sides of the jar due to the running. Those things are so fast, that we had to fight with some, May being so skilled she fought while Envy is tossed in the air, catches him and tosses him back to deal with the next few that came at her.
"You little brat"! I hear Envy yell, I don't have time to look because I'm dealing with my own behind her. Then she lets out a scream sound and all of them stop coming at us for some strange reason, I stop and look over, my eyes wide with horror, the jar is in one of those things mouth.
"Envy"! I yell as he is now getting eaten by the creature. Both May and I watch as the creature starts acting strange, and then stops. I grin as I see him appear on the creatures back, "I'm back", he says. He controls the body and makes it attack one of the others, biting it in the neck. Then the two of them turn into something so weird, I had to step back. It then spreads out and takes hold of the others around it, fusing them with it as well.
"E-Envy"? I stutter, I don't know what's going on. The thing gets bigger and a hand shoots out going behind both May and I, I turn and watch as it turns into a head of some sort and eats the body it was after. When it did that, I could swear I heard Envy's voice in their. I then turn around and smile seeing Envy in his large stat.
"Envy", I say and rush over to him, but stop seeing the face on his forehead extend and turn into a body, then I watch as the giant creature goes into the human form body, to make Envy back to being Envy again.
"Ahh, ha, I'm alive again, ha ha ha ha", he says and laughs as though he is a mad man.
"Thanks for getting me this far, little squirt, so kind of you, very kind", Envy says with a grin on his face. I look back at May and see she is sweating and ready to fight if she has to. I ducked just in time as Envy sent an attack in May's direction, with his extended arm.
"Hey watch it", I call.
"Then stay out of my way"! Envy yells at me. I look at him and move out of the way as he tries to hit her again. I make myself move back so I'm behind him.
"You brat"! He then attacks her with a green coloured arm. I can hear the sound of those things again and May looks back, freaks out and says, "Ah there's more of you"? She attacks the first one that comes at her and freaks out after it puts his broken head back in place. I stand next to Envy and look at his face, he is grinning at the sight before him.
"You don't think that is disturbing"? I ask.
"Not at all", Envy replies. I just look at him as though he is crazy.
"Your wasting your time, all of these manikin soldierly has been infused with philosopher stones, you aren't going to be able to kill them that easily", Envy says to her as he sends another attack at her. She ducks down and he gets a hold of the manikin instead.
"See now, that's what you get for running away", Envy stats, as he absorbs the creature.
"Oh god, Envy that's gross", I say, he only chuckles at me.
"My these soldiers are tasty, and with this, I'm even stronger now", he says and tries to attack her some more, missing each time, but hitting at least one of the manikin's. May just jumps out of his way each time then lands and says, "You don't get it do you. I doubt I'll last very long against a whole army of manikin's but I know I would be able to dodge just one of you all day".
"Silence you brat"! Envy yells and sends both his green elongated arms at her. He absorbs all the manikin's and rushes after her. I follow behind him, not knowing what I'm going to do.
"Lisa why don't you help me, your behind him"? May asks, Envy looks back some, but don't bother with me.
"Because Envy is my friend, and I don't want to fight a friend", I call as she dodges yet another attack.
"But I'm a friend aren't I"? She asks.
"Yes, why do you think I'm not attacking you as well", I call, then scream as something grabs me.
"Oh my gosh its got me", I freak out as a manikin catches me from out of no where.
"Your a pain", Envy calls as he touches the manikin with the tip of his arm, and its absorbed.
"I'm sorry, but it came out of no where", I reply. Envy then stops and looks at me, then grins. I look at him shocked and confused, "What"?
"Look behind you", he says. I turn around and I swear I can feel my hair stand on end. I rush behind Envy and sigh in relief as he attacks them absorbing them into his being. Then after that we are on the run again, Envy chasing after May and me keeping my distance but chasing after Envy.
"Stop scampering around, dammit", Envy says annoyed. After running for a short while, Envy gets fed up with it and send out a giant hand to get her, but she moves so quick she dodges his attack, then puts down an attack of her own. Envy tries to stop but fails and gets hit as he steps too close to it, and I fall along with him. My eyes widen as he reaches his arm up and makes his arm longer and larger as he is still aiming for the girl.
"Sorry", he calls. I just glare down at him then smile.
"I get to hit you for that one at some point", I stat. He just smiles at me. But then it fades as we fall through to the next level down, I land directly on top of Envy, he cushioned my fall.
"Is that May"? Jerso asks. I look up and my eyes widen, then I get off of Envy so he can get up. Ed, Mustang, Hawkeye, Jerso, Scar, Zampano and some one else I haven't met is all in this room. Envy gets up coughing as he tries to get the smoke away from him.
"Envy, Lisa"? Ed asks.
"Not you guys", Envy calls, and holds out his hand as May makes a run for them, he growls as she gets away.
"You damn fool, why didn't you go back to Xing"! Scar yells at her.
"But I, I thought, I just wanted to", May says.
"Forget it, don't cry", Scar says.
"Please forgive me, I'm sorry", May says.
"Ah, typical whinny humans, your making my stomach turn", Envy says then puts his hands on his hips. He then sighs and looks around.
"I gotta admit, you guys made a serious mess down here. So we've got the Fullmetal alchemist, and the flame alchemist, and their is even Scar and I have a serious grudge with you filthy Chimaera.. So then who gets the pleasure of being the first to die"? Envy asks, grinning and eyeing every one.
"Your Envy right? Your the homunculus who can change his appearance at will", Mustang asks.
"Wow, you've heard of me, I'm flattered, nice to meet you Coronal", Envy says.
"Lisa get over here", May calls. I back up one step and look at Envy, then at Mustang, no way I will leave Envy's side, not with Mustang here.
"Hold on, your teaming up with him Scar? You do know he helped reduce Ishbal to a hell on earth", Envy says as he points to Mustang.
"I'm aware of that", Scar stats.
"What, your friends now? You guys are no fun at all", he says then sighs and turns putting his hand on his left eye, "What happened to trying to crush each others wind pipes", then he looks back at every one, "Look at the two of you, you obviously want to kill each other so do it".
"Envy stop", I say.
"Stay out of this"! He snaps back. I just look at him in disbelief, what happened to him? Mustang sighs and says, "We aren't going to be the pawns in your sick little game anymore".
"Really, and what about your sick games. Don't kid yourself Mustang, you know humans love to watch other people suffer while making fools of themselves, I mean why else would you be at war with each other"? Envy asks a huge grin on his face.
"There really is nothing quite like watching fools dig their own graves", Mustang says, I can tell he is luring Envy into a trap, but I don't want to get yelled at again. Envy whistles at that.
"Especially when that fool is an arrogant homunculus who's too stupid to see what he is doing", Mustang says.
"I hear you on that one", I pipe up, then shut my mouth as Envy glares at me.
"I've humoured you long enough, so how about you answer a question of mine", Mustang says and pauses, "I want you to tell me who killed Mea's Hughes, and I want the truth, homunculus". Ed looks over at Mustang shocked, then looks back at Envy.
"Maria Ross did, isn't that why you burned her to death", Envy answers.
"Shut up, I know that she didn't kill him", Mustang says.
"Huh, you mean to tell me that you scorched an innocent girl to a pile of ashes, nicely done you monster, wow, it must of been fun telling her family. Did you cry when you told them or did you sit back quietly and endure their out rage"? Envy asks.
"Quit running your mouth you idiot! I'm sick of you Homuculi by giving me the run around when I ask you this question, tell me the truth or I'll burn it out of you, you worthless scum"! Mustang snaps at him. Envy growls at his statement.
"Tell me who is responsible for his murder", Mustang demands. Envy starts laughing again like a made man, then he holds out his hand and says, "Congratulations coronal Mustang, you finally hunted down your culprit", Envy says. Mustang widens his eyes some and Hawkeye raises her gun at him. Envy then starts laughing again.
"Are you saying your the one that killed Hughes? I doubt a moron like you could pull that off", Mustang says.
"Ha, moron. Tell me who the real moron is because I don't think its me", Envy says as he turns into Hughes's wife.
"I prefer to use that term for some one who falls for a cheap trick like this", Envy stats. I look at Mustang's face and instantly start shaking, I feel helpless to help Envy again.
"Ha, ah, You should see your face. Ah but your not going to believe this, but that was the same look on Hughes face when I shot him, the other shock, the dumb confusion, you could see every emotion as his own wife shot him.. Ah, it was great", Envy boasts. I look from Mustang to Ed and he looks pissed off too.
"Did you know about this"? Ed asks, looking at me.
"I don't remember if I did, but I had the idea", I say honestly.
"That's enough, you where stupid enough to confess and even more stupid to boast, everything you've said is fuel on your funeral fire, so then I think I'll begin", Mustang says, and I take a step back terrified of the man before us.
"With burning out your tongue", Mustang finishes. Mustang walks a little closer to Envy, then stops.
"Stand down, all of you, I'm dealing with him on my own, this one is mine and mine alone", he says.
"Well you heard him, lets keep moving, and find this father guy", Jerso says only to get startled by Envy blocking his bath with his large hand.
"I don't remember giving you permission to leave, I still ow you some pain and misery for what you did to", he was interrupted by Mustang sending flame to Envy's mouth. I gasp and run over to his side.
"Envy", I say as I put my hand on his shoulder.
"Keep your eyes on me Envy, our conversation is the only one that should concern you", Mustang says, Envy then turns back to the form he likes the most.
"Its kind of interesting how quickly the tongue can be rendered to a bubbling grease. Its surprising how easily it burns, isn't it"? Mustang asks.
"Lieutenant, you really think the two of you", Ed was interrupted by her saying, "Edward, just go, we can handle this one".
"Are you sure"? Ed asks.
"The Lieutenant said go, Elric. You've got more important matters to deal with", Mustang says.
"He's right Ed, now lets go", The monkey guy says as he makes Ed walk.
"Hold on", he protests.
"Take Lisa with you", Mustang stats. I look over at them, Scar looks at me, and I go to the other side of Envy.
"No way in hell I'm leaving his side"! I yell.
"Dammit", Envy says sounding a bit off.
"Very well", Scar says as he leaves view.
"So you've been rather doggoning in your pursuit of Hughes killer, your a true friend to the very end, ahh", Envy says as he starts the process of turning.
"Envy no", I say, I know their is nothing I can do to help him here, he went too big. I look over to Mustang, and because of how close I am to Envy, I don't know what he had said.
"Out of respect for the title of vengeance, I'll give you the fight your looking for, I'm not actually capable of treading lightly in this body, so you better give it all you..", he then screams as Mustang sends some flames to his eyes.
"Envy"! I scream.
"What's it like to having your fluids inside your eyes boil, I'd imagine it might sting a little", Mustang says. After hearing the clap, my eyes widen when I see his tail go in the way of the flames hitting me.
"Envy", I whisper as he is in pain.
"I can't believe you would give me a bigger target, did you think that size would increase your chance of winning you idiot", Mustang says.
"Stand up monster, go and and regenerate yourself, you'll suffer a thousand deaths before I'm done", Mustang says. I just watch, Mustang just looking at Envy with the intent to kill, and look at Envy and see he is completely helpless. Then Envy hits the door to aid him, he turns back to his human form and grabs my arm then quickly runs away.
"You coward", I hear Mustang say.
"Coronal"! Riza calls after him.
"You wait here Lieutenant, I'm going to take care of him myself", Mustang says. I can't believe that Envy would bring me along, if anything I thought of him as some one that would leave me behind, I'm the very creature that he hates. When we both see Mustang, Envy shoves me into a hall, out of the way just in time, I see the flame go right for him.
"Envy"! I scream. I get up and come behind Mustang. He turns around and eyes me, then goes back to looking for Envy.
"Show yourself Envy"! Mustang calls, I look over and see the light of red, looking at Mustang, I watch him go the other way. Then I make my way over to where Envy is. I turn to look and see him running off. Sighing I try my best to keep up with him. I stop dead in my tracks when I see Envy looking like Hughes, "Roy whats up"? He asks then rushes for Mustang. I peak out the side and watch as Envy gets hit.
"What is wrong with you, you didn't even hesitate to insinuate your best friend"? Envy asks, still in pain, and on fire.
"Meas Hughes is dead, that's a fact, you would invoke his image, you must be Glutton for punishment. Then Mustang gives him another dose of fire, sending him far down the hall, I even had to bring my head in so I didn't get burned, but I sure did feel the heat.
"Damn, I'll show you real punishment"! Envy yells out of pure anger, I gasp as I watch Mustang burn his eyes, and Envy moves about of the ground in tones of pain, not only was he recovering from that last attack, but now he is recovering from this one.
"My eyes"! He screams.
"So I'm curious, where you trying to get close so I couldn't use heavy fire? No one told you that I could do pin point aiming, to bad for you because I can"! He yells. I then rush out their, not knowing why I'm even going and hold tightly onto the stone. Bring a shield just in time to shield him.
"Damn you for interfering"! Mustang growls at me. Even though Envy is in a lot of pain, he grabs my arm yet again and drags me along, jumping down to another area.
"Why the hell would you do that"? He asks anger evident in his voice.
"To save your ass", I stat.
"Well don't do it again", He stats then shushes me and looks around the corner.
"Stay here", he whispers. I don't listen though, I quietly follow him. He turns into Mustang and walks down the hall I hide in the passage right across from where Riza is, acting afraid. I see Mustang, or rather Envy walk in my view and point his gloves in both our directions. I freak out some and lean back, Riza has her gun pointing at Mustang.
"I told you to stay behind Lieutenant, and I told you not to interfere", He says to both of us.
"I'm sorry, but I couldn't just sit there sir", she says and gets up.
"I can't let you kill my friend", I add as I walk out into the hall.
"Where is Envy"? She asks both of us.
"I don't have a clue, I lost him the moment your boss, fired the crap out of him", I reply.
"He out ran me, this place is like a labyrinth, well you might as well help me kill him while you here, and keep her out of the way", Envy says.
"Stay right by my side Lieutenant", he says, then starts walking. Riza also walks, and so I follow behind her. Then we all stop as she pulls her gun to the back of his head.
"Hmm, what are you doing Lieutenant, do you know who your gun is pointed at"? Envy asks as he puts his hands into the air.
"Ha, who, don't make me laugh. When its just us the Coronal calls me by my first name Riza", she says.
"So you two are that close are you"? Envy asks as he jumps away and goes back to normal.
"I lied", she says, then she shoots him. I gasp at that, and he lands on the ground after doing a sort of cartwheel.
"But it was still very nice of you to fall for it Envy", she says, he looks up and she shoots him none stop.
"And now you can do me the favour of dying", she stats. I then get in the way as she stops shooting him, holding my arms out so she can't shoot him anymore.
"Get out of the way Lisa, your not apart of this", Riza says.
"But she is", I hear Envy say and I see his arm turn into that of a green whip and aiming right for her. He gets her shoulder nicked.
"I'm sorry for this", She says, then shoots my knee, I scream in pain and fall to the ground holding it, I hadn't felt this pain before and its insane. Then I hear her shoot him some more. And the thought of Envy getting hurt just puts me over the edge, ignoring the massive pain in my leg I get up and stand in the way once more. She looks at me shocked.
"I've never been shoot before, and it hurts like hell, but I will not let you hurt him any further", I say through gritted teeth.
"Dammit, you are really annoying with that thing, and you hurt Lisa while using it, you have another thing coming", Envy says as he puts his arm into the ground and gets her that way. He pulls his arm out of the ground and hits her hard against the ground.
"Ha, ha, I'll dump you at his feet, like a rag", I let out a scream as I watch flames go to the end of his arm almost touching Riza and then it turns into ash.
"Coronal", She calls.
"Envy", I call. I look back and see him panting heavily trying to recover, and gasp when he starts screaming in agony due to being hit by more flames. I watch as he looks scared up at Mustang when he comes into view, Envy then slowly sits up having a hard time due to the pain.
"What in the hell are you doing to my Lieutenant"? Mustang asks. I see the look on Envy's face, scared, I haven't actually seen him scared like this before.
"Don't interfere Lieutenant, I told you I would take care of him myself", Mustang says.
"The next time you get in the way, I'll kill you too do you understand Lisa"!, he says. I don't say a word, but look at Envy and see he looks pissed off, now not scared.
"You damn human, don't you understand", he then gets set on fire again, sending screams through out the area. This time though he didn't let the flames stop, he just kept giving Envy flame after flame.
"Please.. I- I peg of you to stop", I say so lowly I'm sure no one heard it. I didn't even hear Riza get up, but she placed a hand on my shoulder and I look up to her as she looks down to me, tears in her eyes.
"I'm so sorry I know how much you care for him, its the same as how much I care about Roy", she says. My eyes widen, did she just say she was in love with Mustang, I then look over at the sight before us both and my eyes widen in realization as well, all those times, every one else knew, but me.
"ENVY"! I yell after the last fire hit him, he falls to the ground, but slowly turns to ash before he can hit ground. I watch as his little parasitic form jumps off the head of his body and falls to the ground as though he is weak.
"Dammit, this again", he says trying to crawl away. Mustang walks over to him and steps on him, "So this is your true form then? Your ugly, Envy means jealously, that's what your name means right? I get it", Mustang says.
"Please don't", I hear Envy beg. I feel tears falling from my eyes at that, Envy begging to live, I can't let him do this, I can't watch him kill the one thing I truly care about in this whole world.
"No don't", Envy says again.
"And jealousy is an ugly thing", Mustang says. I watch as Envy struggles to get out from under his foot.
"No, no, I don't want to die, no", Envy says franticly.
"I'm not giving you a choice, now burn in hell", Mustang says, I was about to try and get up when Riza walks over to him and points her gun at him, stopping him from doing this.
"And what do you think your doing"? Mustang asks.
