Renesmee was dropped off by Carlisle. She kissed him goodbye and wished him luck. She put her bronze ringlets behind her ear and walked into the building.
"So what happened?" Ashley asked her at lunch time.
"Family emergency."
"Oh, so what's gonna happen?"
"They're leaving, not coming back until next month."
"Woah! That long? Who's gonna take care of you?"
"I don't need anyone to take care of me."
"So you're staying at home alone?"
"No… remember that tall guy you saw when you went to my house?"
"Yeah…"
"He's taking care of me."
"Him?"
"Yeah, he's like a big brother to me."
"Oh. Hey, don't you have a date tonight?"
"Yeah, I do."
In fact Renesmee had dressed nicer today. Still casual, but dressier than usual.
Ashley giggled. "So what are you guys gonna do?"
"Gonna see a movie." Renesmee answered as she limply picked at her burger.
"Hmm. You know, you never eat." Ashley said after biting her burger.
"Oh, I don't like school food."
"It isn't that bad. Try it." Renesmee looked at her food and wrinkled her nose.
"Come on! Just one bite." Ashley pressed.
"Fine!" Renesmee said. "But I'm holding you responsible."
Ashley rolled her green eyes. Renesmee took a bite of the greasy burger and choked it down.
"Disgusting."
"Woah. Who doesn't like burgers?" Ashley said in astonishment.
"Me," Renesmee laughed and raised her hand.
