This chapter turned out different than expected but that's good for you because I originally planned to involve other things as well but ended up focusing on one thing which gives you more to read!
I also want to thank you guys for your amazing support (especially those who consistently review, you guys are crazily amazing), without you I probably wouldn't be this motivated to keep writing on this story!

"Lia? Are you ready to go?" JJ called into the living room where Amelia was supposed to put her shoes on. They had made an appointment at the paediatrician's office for a check-up and were already running late because the girl had overslept.
"I will go check on her." Emily walked towards the couch where she found the girl struggling with one of her shoes.

"Hey there, need help?" She gently smiled down to Amelia who nodded reluctantly. Quickly fixing her shoes she helped her jump off the couch before following her down the hall.
"I think we're ready now." Emily nodded towards JJ but Amelia refused to go until she knew they had everything.
"Teddy?" She asked, looking back and forth between both women and JJ simply reached into her bag and handed her the teddy bear, immediately putting a small smile on Amelia's face.

Arriving at the doctor's office they were led into the waiting room with papers they were to fill out about Amelia's health status.
"Em? How am I supposed to know all of this? I don't know if she's allergic to anything or if she ever had any of these childhood diseases let alone if she's vaccinated against them." JJ's voice was filled with despair and Emily knew she was close to having a panic attack.
"Calm down Jen. I'm sure the doctor will be able to help us figure all those things out." Squeezing her hand she hoped to ease her mind a little, figuring it wouldn't do them any good if JJ was under so much stress.

"But what kind of parent does that make me? She could be allergic to something we give her and we wouldn't even know what's going on. "Her eyes became glassy at this statement and she had a hard time holding herself together in front of Emily and Amelia.
"Hey, I need you to calm down JJ. Not every parent knows if their child is allergic to something until they come in contact with it and if it would ease your mind I'm sure we can get her tested." By now Emily was gently rubbing JJ's leg in a comforting manner and waiting for the blonde to take a deep breath.

"I'm sorry." JJ whispered after a moment, knowing she had overreacted.
"You have nothing to be sorry for." Emily quickly soothed her, knowing the blonde's worries were valid.
Just then they were called into the examination room by a nurse and the three got up and followed her down the hall where the doctor was already waiting for them.

"I'm Dr. Jones, but you can call me Emma. You must be Emily Prentiss and Jennifer Jareau with Amelia." The doctor introduced herself with a genuine smile on her lips and hand stretched out for them to shake.
With her hazelnut hair partly braided into two small braids and her slender figure she barely looked older than JJ.

"That's correct. We're here for a check-up and because Amelia needs a paediatrician in town." Emily explained herself as they settled down in front of Emma's desk.
"Alright. Do you happen to have any records from her past doctor's?" Emma looked up at the women and saw them exchanging looks before Emily spoke up again.
"Sadly not. We're not sure if she had a regular doctor before she came to us that's why we don't know much about her medical history as well." She clarified, knowing that JJ was way too tense for this kind of conversation.

"I don't think that's going to be a problem. I can make a quick test to see if she's vaccinated and we can vaccinate her when necessary. Is there anything else I need to know about?" Emma reassuringly smiled at the pair as she waited for a reply.
"She was abused by her own parents and had several bruises when she came to us. The doctor at the ER also told us to keep an eye on her because she seemingly had some broken bones that were never properly treated." Emily quietly spoke up and looked over to where Amelia was cuddled against JJ's chest.

"Don't worry; I will take a look at everything during the examination. If there's nothing else we can get started now." Emma stood up and led them towards the examination table and waited for JJ to settle Amelia down.
"Hey Amelia, would it be ok if I take a look at a few things? Your mummies will be right by your side, ok?" The doctor gently smiled at Amelia not noticing how Emily's and JJ's faces had lit up at her statement.
Hesitantly nodding at the doctor she didn't really know she quickly reached out for JJ's hand and squeezed it as tightly as she could.

At first Emma checked her vitals as to not scare the girl too much and then she went over to check on the almost completely faded bruises before testing if she was vaccinated.
"Ok, apparently her parents never vaccinate her but we can change that if you both agree." She suggested once she had the results.
When both Emily and JJ nodded Emma got everything ready and prepared Amelia for the vaccination, making her more than nervous.

"Jenny?" She meekly whimpered when she saw the needle and wanted nothing more but jump off the table and into JJ's arms.
"It's ok honey, we're right here. This is going to help you stay healthy and I'm sure we can get some ice cream once we're done here." JJ reassuringly held Amelia's free hand and soothingly ran her fingers through her hair, trying to distract her as best as she could while Emma did her job.

As soon as Amelia felt the needle she began to whimper again and tears rapidly trickled down her cheeks once everything was done.
She immediately leaped into JJ's arms and buried her face into her neck while the blonde tried to calm down the upset girl.
"Shh, it's ok now. You did a great job Lia." JJ softly kissed the girl's forehead and was glad that she seemed to calm down.

"You were a really brave girl Amelia. I think that calls for a treat." Emma smiled as she came to stand in front of her with a jar full of sweets in her hand. Seeing the hesitation in her eyes Emma reassured her one more. "Go ahead and pick something you like." At that Amelia carefully reached out one of her arms from where it had rested against JJ's chest and tightly curled her fingers around the lollipop she had chosen.

"T'ank you." She whispered and immediately rested her head against JJ's chest again.
"You're very welcome. And I think you are ready to go now." She smiled before addressing JJ and Emily again.
"Never hesitate to call me when something feels off or she is sick. But until then enjoy your family time." Emma shook both of their hands again before leading them outside again.

Once they were on the street again JJ let out a sigh of relief. "I'm glad everything went so well. Emma is really nice and she's been really good with Amelia."
"Yeah, it's good that she was so understanding and gentle." Emily agreed as they made their way towards the car.

"We eat ice cweam now?" Amelia quietly spoke up while Emily opened the car doors and expectantly looked towards JJ who was trying to buckle her into her seat.
"Yes sweetie, we are going to eat ice cream now." JJ let out a small laugh before getting into the passenger's seat and turning towards Emily.
"I think she recovered pretty fast from her appointment." She smirked, earning a grin from the brunette who was about to start the car.
"I can't help but think the same." Emily laughed and with that they drove off in search of the nearest ice cream parlor.

Don't forget to review - and don't worry, next up will most likely be the meeting with at least one of the parents ;)
