Hey guys! Yes I am still here just after the dad visit. It went well and now a family friend is coming up next week and I'm getting a puppy. So it's all going on really. Work has settled into a routine and now I need to get the fic to match that, which I'm starting to do. Thanks for the continued support. The reactions about Casey had me laughing. Take it we don't like him much...

Much love,

LM xx

The Surprise That Would Change Everything-Part 14:

Jane barely wanted to talk to Casey and luckily a case landed on the desks of herself, Frost and Korsac, giving her a decent excuse for avoiding him. She had barely said anything to Casey after the outburst she'd had the first night Casey was home, still trying to figure everything out.

Maura was beginning to worry that Louisa would be taken away from her. She was still waiting to hear back about her custody application for the girl. The more days that passed, the more nervous she began to get. Louisa was just starting to get into a routine and Maura didn't want that upset again.

Louisa was sat in her usual corner of the Division 1 cafe waiting for Maura to arrive as the two were going to see Paddy. Maura was still unsure about the whole idea but if Louisa couldn't stay with Maura then at least Paddy would have seen his granddaughter again.

Angela was watching Louisa when Maura appeared infront of her.

"Go and sit down and I will bring your lunches over," she said to Maura who just nodded before heading over to Louisa. The honey blonde just watched Louisa working before smiling as the girl looked up at her.

The two ate lunch and then headed to the prison. Maura knew there was still time to back out if she wanted to, but so etching was telling her that she needed to do this. She kept an eye on Louisa and reassured her that everything was being done to protect her and that she wouldn't leave the girl's side at any point.

Paddy was sat waiting for them when they arrived in the visitors room. Maura was holding Louisa's hand as they walked over to him. Maura sat down before watching as Paddy watched Louisa.

"Paddy this is Louisa," she said, "Louisa this is Paddy. I'm saying this because it's been a few years since you last saw each other," she told the two as Louisa sat down.

Nothing was said as Paddy and Louisa looked at each other,

"I never thought I'd see you again," Paddy told Louisa, "you look so much like your mother," he smiled, "I do miss her." Louisa just nodded, unsure what to make of Paddy. It looked like she was analysing him to see if she wanted to trust him or not.

"He's ok to talk to. I'm right here," Maura spoke softly to Louisa, trying to reassure her.

"Hi," Louisa finally whispered, "I remember you." Paddy nodded,

"I'm glad you do. It's been a while since I saw you last, but not too long. I'm sorry about your father. He was a lovely man and a doting father."

"I miss him and mum. I want them back," she whispered, "but Maura's so lovely and Jane and Angela too. They're really kind."

Paddy couldn't help but let a rare, but barely noticeable smile appear on her lips as he heard the girl praising his daughter. He was glad that Maura hadn't turned out like him. She had Hope's kindness and caring nature and Constance's upbringing. He watched as Maura kept Louisa close to her and he carried on talking to Louisa, determined to do what he could to find out who took the girl's surviving parent away. He told Maura that before visiting hours wee over, adding that he hoped to see them again.

Louisa and Maura arrived home to find angel busy cooking in the kitchen, Jane looking at some case notes and Jo Friday running up to them. Maura headed over to Jane and smiled as she heard Louisa fussing over the little dog.

"Escaping Casey?" Maura questioned. Jane nodded,

"And this time I brought Jo so I have no reason to go back to the apartment for a while. How did it go?"

"She wasn't saying much at first but after a few minutes she began talking to him. We will go again for sure," Maura replied and Jane smiled and nodded before seeing her mother stood infront of her.

"Lieutenant Cavanaugh wants to see both of you tomorrow," she said before going back to her cooking, leaving the two women wondering what Cavanaugh wanted to see them about.
