"HEY! GET YOUR HANDS OFF OF HER!" My voice rang out loud, and immediately that asshole looked at me. Anna lay on the floor, her red hair sprawled around her head, and as I passed her I secretly hoped she was okay. She had to be okay!
"Elsa, check on your sister, I have to deal with this asshole." Hans dropped Elsa who fell to the floor with a cry. As much as I wanted to run to her, to help her, I knew that I needed to finish this.
Hans grinned at me, and I had the overwhelming urge to punch him in his smug face. "Ah... what do we have here? Jack Frost." He hissed at me and walked towards me.
I began to ready myself, reaching in my back pocket to find that I had left my knife. Shit. Hans on the other hand stood in his uniform, and I knew his gun sat holstered on his hip. I also knew that if it came down to it he would probably shoot me.
"Why are you here exactly...?" He looked between I and Elsa and then let out a short laugh. "For her? For Miss. Little perfect? Oh Jack. Do you really think you have a chance with her?"
"Quit the chit chat Hans.. we both know what's going to happen here. Let's get this over with." I growled. This guy, this crooked cop was one of the reasons this town was so messed up. One of the reasons that Kristoff worked as a security guard. One of the reasons Elsa felt she had had to leave in the first place. Here he stood in front of me, talking shit. I wanted to kill him.
"JACK! She's not waking up!" I heard Elsa cry, and turned for a split moment to see her shaking Anna and rubbing her head. I prayed silently that she was at least alive, but it didn't look good.
In the split second that I had turned my head, Hans came in for a punch and got me good right in the face. I fell to the ground, groaning. Guy packed a punch. In another moment, he had kicked me in my side... the one that Pitch had kicked me in and I saw stars. This wasn't exactly going as planned.
I groaned, opened my eyes to see Hans standing over me with his gun in hand, his finger ready to pull. Was this it? Was this the end of my time in Poveri Perso?
I found myself unable to move, staring at the barrel of his gun. I felt fingers on mine and looked over to see that while Elsa was keeping a hand on Anna, she also had a hand on mine. She cried, but looked beautiful none the less. If that was the last thing I saw, that would be okay.
I heard the shot.
I heard it.
But I didn't feel it.
I watched as Hans slumped to the ground and felt myself tense up, moving my hands around my body to check for any sort of bullet hole. I turned my head, looking around to see none other but the Governor himself standing with a pistol out. Hans was on the floor, lifeless.
Shocked beyond words, I quickly moved to Anna but was pushed away as the Governor ran towards her and dropped to the ground.
"Anna! Get help! YOU!" He pointed to me, the man that I had spent years hating. "GET HELP!"
"Okay..." What the hell was happening?!
Inside I ran, followed by Elsa who let out a cry and jumped at me. "JACK! You're okay! I thought he was going to kill you! You're okay!" She put her hands on either side of my face and I saw the tear tracks on her beautiful pale skin.
"Yeah, I thought so too. I'm fine... what the hell is going on... your dad... I... help, we need to get Anna help." I replied, looking for a phone. I had never had one, couldn't afford one, nor did I have use for it.
Elsa ran towards the wall where an overly large telephone hung. This place was unreal... who needed all of this shit?
I watched her press some numbers and she spoke hurriedly into the phone. She hung it up and ran towards me, right into my arms that I opened. I groaned from the pain that shot through my side.
"Jack..." She whispered, and I knew she was crying again. She lifted her head, pressing her lips against mine shortly and we both turned to walk outside to help Anna... and her father.
Please let her be okay.. please let her be okay.. Elsa thought as she sat next to Anna who lay on the ground. She could see her breathing lightly, but her eyes wouldn't open. Her father... her father had saved Jack... had saved them. He didn't speak to her, but sat holding Anna's hand in his. His normally strong composure was breaking and she had the fleeting image of the man she knew as a child, before his greed got to him.
Jack stood pacing, waiting for the telltale signs of the medical team. She knew it wouldn't be long. Time had passed slowly, and minutes seemed like hours.
Hans lay on the floor, covered with a sheet that Jack had found and brought out. Elsa was unsure what would become of her father after police enforcement found out he had killed their highest ranking officer.
The sirens were approaching and she watched as a medical team came rushing through the gate. In their hands they held their equipment, and she moved quickly as they got to work. They pulled up Anna's eyelids, shined light in her eyes. She heard them yell at each other to get her on the stretcher.
She felt her world breaking. This is all my fault... She thought, and felt her hands turning into fists. Conceal Elsa... conceal.
Her father stood, ignoring Elsa and ran with the EMS crew. She watched as he said something to the police officers that were now coming in, and they nodded in agreement. Immediately they ran towards the sheet, lifting it to reveal Hans who lay still and pale.
What happened next made her feel worse. They immediately turned to Jack and grabbed him, cuffing his hands behind his back.
"WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING?! I DIDN'T SHOOT HIM!" He struggled against them and Elsa ran towards them.
"It wasn't him! It was my father! It wasn't him!" She screamed, attempting to push her way through the men in uniform. One grabbed her, pulling her back.
"Ma'am, please stay out of this." He said to her, and she kicked and screamed, watching as Jack was taken away.
I sat in the cold cell, my back against the cool grey wall.
I had avoided at all costs to be thrown into this place. It broke a person... turned them into nothing.
I had to get out. But how?
